  2. Horta waxa la kala heysto intee ku bilaabataa, kuna dhamaataa. I mean, a few months ago on Soomaali channels, there were odeyo shir jaraa'id ku qabtay Xamar claiming the current location of Ceelgaab boosteeyo (now called Beerta Nabadda) used to belong to them, that Kacaankii ayaa ka kiciye. Yaab ayee lahaayeen. Aagaas Iskuraran ayaa la dhihi jiray, dowladda probably had a right cause to demolish those unsafe slums, relocating the residents meelo kale u roon. Laakiin kuwooda qaarkood wali soo taagan. Guryaha la kala heysto aniga waxaa iiga daran dhulkii dowladda xoog lagu dhistay, sida jardiinooyinkii, barxadihii, xaruntii degmooyinka, mishibiyeeriyadii, beerihii guud magalada ku dhex yaalay. Isgoysyada qaarkood Xamar ku yaalay jardiinooyin qurxoon ayee lahaayeen, aad iyo aad u qurxooneysiin jiray magaalada. Unfortunately, dad waxmagarato ayaa dhistay. Jardiinooyinkaas ay ka mid yihiin tii Isgoyska Bakaaraha, Afarta Jardiino iyo kuwa kale.
  3. Barbaarta in fact have a strong presence in Huriwaa and Dayniile. Go see yourself, if one can last a week there, especially during the night.
  4. Ain't it oxymoron qof gaal noqday, oo waliba maalin cad qirtay haddana qabyaalad daba taagan. Would his clanmates accept this? Then that maahmaah -- fiqi tolkiisa kama jano tago -- must have been uttered by a Soomaali who had seen something like this. Qof hadduu diinta ka baxo waxaa u haboon in uu qabyaaladda walaaqideeda iskaga baxo, intuu ku jahwareeri lahaa. Diin ka bixid waa bar Soomaalinimadii loogu baxo. Just ask Reer Diinle (Rendille).
  5. Dad badan ku arkay Islii asagoo fiid ka fiid kaligiis socdo ii sheegi jiray. I used to think how geesi of him, considering heesuhuu caanka ku ahaa.
  6. Mar walba raaci jiray basaska townka aado. The number #9 buses waa caan with their ear-splitting, body-shaking music on. I don't know why Soomaalida didn't invest as much in those buses as Xabashada.

  8. Diyaarad rakaab ah ayaa aado Mandheera. I don't know how frequent, though. Gaarisa diyaarad ma tagto, not a public one that I know of. Basaskii 'scary' ahaa ku sugaayo should one want to go to Gaarisa, though they upgraded having a 'first class' seats that costs more.

  11. It is not dungeon, but even decent ones are infected with them. Bedbugs invaded Islii en masse in late 2007, early 2008. Dadkii Xabashada dagaaladooda kasoo cararay ayaa keenay ayee dhahaan Reer Islii.
  12. Stoic, some cheap hotels might be infected with bedbugs, so be careful, though. In Islii, bedbugs have a nickname: Shabaab. It is pretty much hard to get rid them off, from hotels to homes to schools to dugsis to marfishes.

In Grand Royal's case, it is 2,500, 3,500, 4,000, 5,000. That was back in mid 2011, so I don't know how the management of Grand Royal charge per room now. They may have cut the rates.

I think I will just hand over Polo shirts to everyone haha.. Don't bother giving away your dhar. This is Reer Islii's primarily interests as a gift: Smart mobile phones (particularly iPhone5 or Samsung Galaxy s4), digital camera, latest laptops, iPad or its likes, quality kareemooyin (lotion) and shaambo (shampoo). Don't bother with dated mobile phones. They want the latest, the latest that you don't even know exist or had seen. They know pretty well the mobile models.

But if you want to enjoy those natural green delicacy from the Meru highlands or those fine figured Sijui's from the opposite gender, I wouldnt recommend you to stay there. Carafaad, we are warning him so. He will see how 'restrictive' the wadaado owners can get. Speaking of Andalus: Back in the summer of 2011, an old family friend from ciyaal xaafad pre-civil war was staying at Andalus. He had a quite few anecdotes of his own. He had been out of Afrika since '87, but one thing that shocked him most was a 'stranger' Soomaali visited his seat at the Andalus hotel's restaurant, greeting him quietly and ordering his food. Our family friend was eating his meal as well. The stranger finished his fast, left for 'farxal' but never came back. When the bill arrived, our family friend was surprised to find the 'stranger's' bill included in his. He inquired. He was told he was his friend because the 'stranger' said so, not to mention you two were engaged in a conversation -- the 'salaamu caleykum' kind conversation it seemed. He had no choice but to pay. However, since then he was pretty much wary of anyone sitting in his seat area, immediately informing the waitresses that he doesn't know that person or this person should one dare to sit near him.
  19. They are building the major roads, some already built. If you stay Diamond Palace, this might be your view as I did when I stayed for a few nights in the past month. The blue building on the right is Andalus hotel, the muraayad one on the left is Madiina hotel and the picture was taken inside a Diamond hotel's room. As you can see, aad iyo aad iskugu dhowyihiin. Also, Andalus has a mosque inside it.

If you want a decent hotel owned by wadaado, then check Madiina hotel or Andalus, both just on same location as of the three I mentioned in the previous post. Heed this, though: Your visitors are pretty much restricted, especially of the opposite gender. Also Andalus doesn't have satellite TV. Waxaa kaa ilooway about the road construction, which affects the location of those mentioned hotels. Jidad badan Islii laga dhisoyaa and some which are completed now.

Maarka where is the favorite spot to rent a hotel with a good security and I can pray my prayers in the mosque within a walking distance? I have brothers with their own houses in Park road and Kariakor, but I refused to stay in their place. I got used to my own space.I'm looking forward to meeting friends and families.I only have a month so I'll see how many places I can visit. Marka hore safar salaama kuu rajeynaa. You may be familiar the Islii of circa 1997/98, but the Islii of today is completely different. Even if you were last there in 2005, it looks practically different. Islii has three 'upscale' hotels, namely Grand Royal, Nomad Palace iyo Diamond Palace -- all Soomaali owned. Diamond Palace was opened earlier this year. Grand Royal ugu wanaagsan, though its location is questionable since in front of it ka baxaan basaska NFD aado. Very busy location. All three hotels are on 12th Street, Diamond Palace and Grand Royal on very prime locations at the First Avenue roundabout. The two have free WiFi, though a bit slow. Also check Kilimanjaro restaurant, just across from those two hotels. Safar salaama mar kale. Don't hesitate to share what you find in Islii on here.

Waxa aan aad uga heli jiray, vieuw'gooda fiican, cuntada macaan, service kooda(dhalinyaro dhaqso badan), koobka shahooda oo waaweyn marka loo eego kuwa kale ee kenyatiga. Maqaayadda Rayaan downtown Nayroobi ku taalo maa tagi jirtay? I thought it was overtly cafe, not a real maqaayad. Xildhibaanada iyo xildhibaano ku sheega meeshaas lagama waaye. I think it is where a certain SOLer gets his daily dose of fadhikudirir in Nayroobi.
  23. Showqi, ii waran, widaay. Hollandese aan ku arko Schiphol airport dad nooc kale waaye. I use that airport all the time, laakiin the service people meeshaas joogo seem like kinda 'rude.' Kuwa xataa maqaayadahooda ka shaqeeyo inside the airport. But the airport itself is great, very well designed and well run.
  24. Carafaad, maqaayada Soomaalida leedahay ee magaalada hoose Nayroobi ku taalo ma tagtay? By the way, sawirka meesha soo saartay waa maqaayada Xamdi ee Toronto ku taalo. Cuntadooda, saxankoodaba, koobkooda cambaha iyo waliba miiskaas cuntada saarantahay waa wada aqaan.
  25. I guess anigana soon waxaa halqabsi ii noqon doonto Islii.
