  2. thx..Jamaal.. Entrepreneur, I was just posing a scenerio for you..didn't mean to boast around with my flag(which I will/I have by the way)...and aint nothing wrong with that..So chill. U yourself, probably have your somali flag around the house, office, dorms etc...so why not me..it dont mean that I hate somali(not at all)..but it means that that's where I came from..I can only recollect my childhood memories of that place only  By the way, good call on whoever said that sijui's feel very comfortable when talking to other sijui's(@least I do!!!)..
  3. Jambo, It seems like Iam the only none-traditionally chosen major student..basically I went about designing my own major(in the academic field it called individualized studies)... My major is called Health and wellness w/a concentration in public health and a minor in african studies. Right now Iam actually doing research in the epidemiology department. Iam in my senior year undergrad. I plan to join School of public health, and do masters in Epidemiology-clinical research division. Then go on to PhD. and hopefully teach public health studies somewhere in Kenya,Somalia(hopefully)...lol..Insha-allah. Word of Advice(although not specified in the text previoulsly):....Good grades and completing all the requirements is not all there is to schooling....diversify your porfolio my dear bros and sistas....Get experience, participate in research projects, become a TA, ...basically get a hands on experience in your field or atleast be xposed to it("physically") b4 the completion of your undergrad years. I apologize for the long post..thx Kwaherini..
  4. walaalo, I have xperienced the same treatment too in the beginning...well now is even worse coz I got this Kenyan Flag sticker on my bag, and the 1st time my walendo relatives saw it ..some of them couldn't believe that I really meant it...they made is seem like Iwas denouncing my whole identity..but what is my true identity by the way?... In addition, I alwayz get this "evil" eye whenever I start speaking a different language at home...just like Shujui said.."maad afsomali kuhadashid?" is the question that I get. Enterpreneur, walaalo we are not the ones diverging ourselves from our bros and sistas but they are the ones forcing us to be something else..however, we can to terms with associating principle. In short..."Malaika, Nakupenda Malaika...nami sina hasira na we, ningekuoa malaika"....lol...ama niaje..we are all from the same ancestor. kwaherini..and by the way....Jambo waswahili wenzangu...
  5. funny people in here... I tend to change like the weather..
  6. You know there is a joke that says: a white man goes on to justify that he is not a racist by counting how many black friends, neighbours, or co-workers etc he's got.. I feel the same perception potruding from some people when asked the Q. On the other hand, it seems like SOME(*note I say some) somali people like to GENERALIZE A POPULATION by using words such as "we" "all somalis" and so on. Don't you learn never to generalize anything? just speak your mind. Indeed, the most hurting testimonials are from those that say that they "dont have anything against any Qabiil(perhaps even have family relatives or have lived with them), yet are quickly to oppose marrying one(for the sake of not putting their offsprings in "the scope" of brutalization)" For those, I would say rather, you are a racist but just haven't realized your racist potential or maybe haven't measured "the racist meter" yet. Check your self,...plz dont contradict your argument. For me regarding the issue: I have no problem, infact, I have never ever used the word itself, will never...and I thank my family for not instilling "Qabil-hormone" in my body. I have relatives that are married other ethnic groups(infact one is married to what some somalis would say"kenyati w/ a big nose-but she is happy as anyone else)....because that's how we are raised..never to discriminate...and Iam glad I was raised in an environment that instilled me with this virtue. midwesta
  7. 2 many to mention 'em all here..However, there is this song by Maxi Priest... "Some guyz got all the luck"(My friends and Fam..can recognize when Iam listening to this song..or Maxi priest in general..) and the whole ALbum called " the Best of Me" by Maxi priest...I wish he toured the US..man I would be one of those gals who throw..****and scream ..and the whole 9yards of "psycho" fanatic fever... & Boyz to men...songs: -Bended knees -Color of Luv -Water runs dry(**my Fav. especially the tune-I get intoxicated by this) Toni Braxton -You make makin' me high -Baby,baby.. -most of the songs in this album(forget 'em at the moment) Avra Larvigne...the last song(4got the name..)goes something like this..."why is everythin' so confusin', maybe Iam just outta ma mind...."... midwesta..

Ndugu wangu wote walikataaa... walisema, Afunge aende kwao(*2) ......... wakati ujao...i will recite ...some poetry ....
  10. jamal 11 and Garyaqaan...yaw are right..S*** I can't stand one who is strangling a hen, shimbir, rat, or halaq..@ ceremonies....by the neck professing to be an ancesterol link/sacrifice....walaahi, I would even encourage him to sacrifice himself..... 4 me...strictly somali...walaahi, I used to wonder why somalis say...shiir kulula kani?..Bcoz I grew up differently, I only concluded that its was becoz they were full of 'emselves and prejudice....now I cant stand one who stinks...uuf...& most of 'em seem to be...
  11. my pet peeve's.... 1. schoooool...is stressing me out-especially when its almost finals...and my mind set to go on my winter break... 2. Guyz think that Iam almost against 'em when it comes to gender issues 3. Gals at the same time...think that Iam not feminine enuf-coz I dont nug..excessively.. 4. My boss...he is 2 much...sick of him and ma job.... 5. Unresponsible ppls.... 6. PPle who talk much bout themselves...and grool on their beauty, where they grew up(especially those who grew up..somewhere other than somalia...they think that the are better than others....plz....). 7. qouting a line from the Quran/hadith..-scratching the surface...and not following the conditions...expected....Plz...read carefully..and present substiantial evidence B4 you present your case.. 8. stinkin' ppl....oh..this is my worst.. chao raula
  12. MMA...bro..I didn't even talk bout the the side tracts of diin on this matter...all I was opposed to was the criticism. To be honest, I know (like I said), where diin stands on this issues...however, it seemed like some pps here were predominately gruelling on her looks than her career....(like some) they had already placed her on a category:not somali or wateva names they called her....and Allah know how uglier some of us probalbly look like......like they say in Swahili: Nyani haoni mkundule(basically meaning that we judge others yet avoiding our own).....However, I still insist that this kinda of excessive criticism still seems to prevail in our communities thus creating a hieriachial social dominance of male over women(not that Iam saying that the world is equal-but in our culture the balance of power(in any level) for women to express themselves is overtly overrulled in most cases... ....and quite frankly, wateva that woman does is upto her and Allah.....not my business & either urs(whoeva)...
  13. woow....I guess she really is desperate....daamn...but I keep my tomorrows clothes-the ones that I will be wearing the next day to school...(yea..trying to improvise since we aint got no pressing iron-keepin' it old fashioned).
  14. shujui said it all...although I would add 1 more thing..have u eva heard of the phrase "history repeats itself"....this is just a modified/reformed colonization but in terms of IMPERIALISM...
  15. To my knowledge..it looks to me as some kinda "underground propaganda" that's going on...Arabs means securing the economy, therefore exploit our weaknesses and then manipulate us by any means since we might not have a strong govt by the time, which means we will settle for any emergency aid possible in order to cater for the needs of our starving population..if they really mean it..why dont they lift the ban on livestock export(which seems to be the only life-line of somalia now)....but I would be happy to see atleast justice finally prevail, and those who wronged be held accountable for their deeds...
  16. Lakkad..U r probably confusing me w/som1 else...boy, I can be judgemental(like most of ppl here seem to be) by I choose not,its not my virtue.....man I was just pointing to the critical stereotyping that exists/seem to prevail against somali women in general...Iam half-sure that if this incident happened to be a guy, he wont have got much criticism as she did...(yea,I know bout the religious take on this, and so is to a guy-dont wanna get into details)...and when I mentioned bout them singers..is there any substantial critism that exists on their side except that they have crossed an islamic "bridge" that forbids them to do this??? & I wonder y does it seem to me that always when it comes to beauty, somalis somehow consider themselves the most beautiful..and start pointing fingures at others???yaqee..adinkaba..sanweinayalba wadledihin..(sorry if u might not understand)...I mean basically, we've got the darkest, the skinniest, the tall, the short, the beautiful, the ugly(mmmmhhh),the craziest, the calm, and the watevas in all cultures...so dont stereotype... like 1 poster said..she seems to have some ground morals..but I hope she doesn't get sucked in...&BTW..she aint representing somalis...but just trying to get paid...so plzz..don't let ur tongue fall out..
  17. lakkad..y skip the Q barwaaqo asked ya...if U answer it then I will give my input on it ..although Iam suspecting that its som to do w/fetish (like she said), curiousity   , or maybe it did inflict some kinda damage/nightmare  ... however, thx for reminding me of the 2sets of situps I gotta do 2night(30each)...lol..
  18. iam pure anti-capitalist...neither iam to support communism or anarchy.....capitalism, might seem like the way to go for many economist..since it opens foreign investing to many third world countries...but do you know that all of this companies are exploiting the profits due to cheap labor, needless to say that they r causing health hazards and pollution apart from suppressing workers' rights?? indeed large co-oporations has been supported by IMF or the World bank( which happen to only benefit already developed countries),while sinking our beloved continent and other third world countries into massive debt.....(Read bout the Argentina crisis to get more in depth report on how really corrupt this system organizations are)..... To be honest...this world is like a master puppet theater, and we r being manipulated(especially third world countries/undeveloped nations)...by the puppet master(the west etc)....by they illusions of market socialism.......capitalism omits such issues as colonialism out of its context...therefore making it not a viable market solutions.... I dont know much bout islamism...but I would say as long as we have human differences....differences in opinion will still vary and not be simultaneous..... undisputed author bout capitalism.....Hernando DeSoto.....
  19. Pretty boy..she is nomad...wat tha F****...wheteher U like it or not...walaahi u pps Xaasids...  .... Like 1 said...she is 23...and its up to her to do whateva she likes.....so she is not asking for ur support pps...calm ur F******* nerves down 4 godsake....
  20. damn...walendo...don't be hatin'...let her do her thang'.....jamani...masalale......how come U not opposed to the so-called singers(e.g. Hassan aden samater & all the others)...just coz she makin' more than u...c'mon now...nowonder somalia won't even have a govt..established soon...its coz we hatin' on us.......she's got the opportunity...then y not use it.... raula
  21. I would have to say,...Iman, manners and confidence......I think the others fit into all this(in my perspective).... raula
  22. its misleading to make a big generalization bout somali students..however, I can agree w/ya to some extent..somehow, I think some of us think that we r too good to hang out w/fellow somalis, reason being the perception of us being ignorant(not civilized/westernized in a way) and coming from a third world( I think some pps mentioned this already), rather not too-firfircowni(social)like our counterparts. In addition, I also think that many of us want to be labelled as "the one"(who is social, or made some kinda major contribution to something, or basically started something out of the norm of the somali culture)-basically gain a name for oneself rather than a group...(which seems to prevail back in our county)....we r too worried bout how others perceive us and conserving our image, than even "glancing" towards our bros and sis. raula
  23. Khadar...I dont know bout pps who wanna support the so-called"war on terrrorism" but my concern is that...giving bush and his admin..the power to strike Iraqi...violates laws 1. it violates the constitution 2. it mocks the UN charter 3. it bridges international law(violates) 4. its against any religion- measuring the # of casualities .5...and so many other reasons... Infact it you weight the options very carefully, U will see that Iraqi has a better chance to wage a war against the US...after the Gulf war...( this is siding with /according to the International law....it says that unless country A attacks country B, then country B can attack country A in self defense...Nevertheless, Iraq..army has been diminished in #'s since the Gulf war...so what kind of evidence is the US trying to create that iraq posses an imminent threat to the "world"....when its been under sactions and almost half of its population has been destroyed or is near to distinction????? Nevertheless, once U dont have a full support, dont even try to attack...u might half a vast army and the technology needed...however, its tactics and skills that play a major role in game....dont overestimate urself.....Look at it from this view,...there's been corporate scandals, Dick cheney.( is one of em)..he is also so eager bout the oil reserves in middle East.....bush wants to fulfilll his dad's dream(finish the job), elections coming up...and so forth....nevertheless, majority of the Interntional committee are opposed to this war.......On the other hand, giving Saddam no options at all will only provoke more violence and greater threats that what's being assumed now....... bout the support for Arabs....I would suggest u read more bout the nuclear waste damping in the Somalia's coastline by the UAE..and other western countries.....slavery (along the East african borders...by Arabs)...This is indeed is what an economist will say as to " the arms of comparitive advantage and opportunity cost " playing its cards.... We might share "religions" per se...but really everyone is on his own....YOUMUL QIYAMA....so support no other except what U believe in .... sorry bout the lengthy post... raula I
  24. Shukri..I would advice U 2 drop ur freinds like a hot potato..4 real..they wont be of any help..if they bashin' ya already..& Iam sure they r talkin' behind ur back..but just dont wanna break ur heart.& BTW..if u really care bout this guy, u should just follow ur heart since U've been in tha Qurbaha 4 so long...then U r old enuf to make a fair judgement...Qabiil is just an identity but not a shield...
