  1. That is how confident leaders speak when they address the media. Have you ever seen Farmaajo come out and openly address the issues of the day?. No. There was Qalbi Dhagax issue and he never addressed or paid attention to the feelings of the Somali people. Why take the dead body. This is how the TPLF treats dead Somali ONLF fighters. They keep them in the streets and refuse for the relatives to bury the dead. This is not a Somali action. I think Farmaajo is wounded badly, and unless he makes a real change, I do think he might not finish the next two years.
  2. America has lost more than the vote. Excluding the governments of Hoduras, Guatemala, Marshal Islands, Nauru, Micronesia, Palau, and Togo, it seems the rest of the entire planet was happy to let Trump expose the United States foreign policy for what it is. It is a Soprano mafia style extortion policy. They could not threaten or even criticize their own allies at the security council. France, U.K and others at the security council voted 14 to 1. Their Asian allies like South Korea and Japan had voted against Trump. I Think people are no longer taking seriously the Trump bluff. As always they are punishing the poor countries that are the mercy of U.S handouts. Give it four more years and America will be a second tier country overtaken by China, Russia and others.
  3. Mooge, That is funny video. Ninyaow Somalis always create monsters where none exist, and we all jump in the bandwagon. I commented this video from C. C/shakur last year during the election and it was great. The man is well versed both in religious knowledge and worldly education. It is how a Somali leader should be . You do not have to be scholar, but you must have enough understanding of Somali and Islamic tradition. Also, I hate the way people insult Cumar C/rashiid , calling him names. Regardless of what he is accused of , he is a democrat and he plays by the rules of the game. I have never seen him bad mouth or say anything bad about anybody. The man is a gentle giant. It seems Amin Amin insults had spread everywhere, yet no publicity will replace real results on the ground. Farmaajo must work hard and produce real results, because that is what could defeat any opposition.
  4. We Somalis should not be fools. Oromodan la inagu soo jeediyey waa in aynu iska jeedinaa oo Axmaarda iyo Tigreega ku jeedinaa. Imisa jeer ayaa la in khiyaamaynayaa. Waar ma dadkii aanu deriska wanaagsan la ahayn 40 sano ayaa tigreegu cadow in nooga dhigay. These Ormo were our neighbors for forty years without incident. We should not allow the Tigree to direct them against us. Period.
  5. Ragyahow , You can call what you wish, but the genie is out of the box. Everyone knows that today the word "Oromo" means trouble. In 1974 when Tafari Bante briefly became president of Ethiopia, the Oromo had massacred a lot of people. What you must realize is that the old empires of the old world had crumbled and ceased to exist or changed forms. Even republics and nations forced by 1914, versailles treaty had vanished including Yugoslavia and others. The Ethiopian highlanders came to the South and Western Somalia during the conquest of the last century. After the collapse of Emperor Haile Salase, Ethiopia should have disbanded, but a communist dictatorship had kept together. In order to eliminate the extensive power of Amhara bureaucracy and elite throughout the country, Meles Zanawi proposed ethnic federalism. Before that , the police, the municipal staffer, the judge and all the government employees across Ethiopia were Amhara. By stroke of genies Meles sent the Amhara packing to their regions. He also nurtured the Oromo public with development aid and appointments while at the same time checking his power with his military. The Oromo elite were building capacity and muscle . In order to sideline the Amhara, Meles encouraged them and allowed them to broadcast their 500 year old Amhara grievances and domination in the airwaves. The Oromo are two schools at the moment. Those who want to rule Ethiopia and show their power without dismantling it, and those who want their own country. At the moment, the majority want to rule Ethiopia and dominate as they have been dominated. The TPLF never prepared or expected a parliamentary democracy were members would debate issues. It was the prime minister who ruled and was backed by the military might of the Tigray run army. THe Tigray officer corps can not force the Oromo and Amhara concrips to shoot their own citizens. Also, they can not subdue big cities with millions. Just 50 miles from Addis, you have towns with over a million people . The ruling Tigre has two choices: either give power or disband Ethiopia. The Somalis do not have a seat at the federal table. They do not have neither generals, parliament speakers, president, foreign minister or any public official that has a say in the federal affaires. When Cabdi Illey is attacked by the Oromo federal elites, it is the Tigre ministers or generals who usually defends him.The Oromo has the president, and their speaker , just a month ago, has resigned in protest on these issues. Worst of all there are no Somali council or assembly like in the Oromo regions. We either live or die with Cabdi Illey. Many months ago I said that if Cabdi Illey acts responsibly and keeps the Somali region as a unit it may survive and declare an independent state. He has a well trained and ruthless paramilitary force that could keep order if things get out of hand. Yet, if he keeps acting and abusing Somalis in a manner never seen anywhere in the world, people will try to resist and take up arms against his tyranny. To be blunt , Cabdi Illey will be better than anarchy and Somali tribal war. That is the last thing any sensible Somali would want. A dictator will be always better than anarchy. Maybe, we the diaspora , and others should engage him and advice him to come to his senses and stop the cruel oppression of his own people. Those who have influence must tell him to release the innocent business people he jailed in jijiga for months, and cultivate a new relationship with the Somali elders and businessmen. A friend who traveled few months ago said, " he can not imagine how the Somalis are abused and treated in the Zone and no one would raise the issue. A long line up that started a mid morning might not even finish with a dozen cars and if the sun goes down all those people must return to their destinations. The car you are traveling is dismantled literally by pieces including tyres , and if an old and tired mother tried to sit after hours of standing, she will be wiped by the Tigre soldiers. By the way these are Ethiopian Somalis who went to Somaliland for basic foods and other goods since EThiopia is landlocked and for Somalis , that is the only place to buy things. Mr. Old observer says that " since Puntland's interest is being there a government in Ethiopia supportive and agreeable of Puntland, which has been and still is the reality". Well, my friend one must observe the huge repercussions the Ethiopian collapse might mean in the horn, and especially the pros and cons vis a vis the Somali state, not the interest of Puntland and Somaliland who masquerade as semi independent states. That bargain will be over. Folks, do not lose sleep on the collapse of Ethiopia. Inaga maxaa inoo hadhay, sawtaan masiibo oo dhan soo taabanay. 250,000 aya gaajo u dhintay lix sano ka hor, 2011,abaar aan dhmaanayn iyo dhiig, waar waxba ha ka baqanina, ee waxaad yeeshaan u aqli celiya Cabdi Illey si aanay Soomaalida Galbeed dagaal jabhadeed oo cusub u galin. As Che used to say, " let the shit hit the fan". When I transited through Addis, I had seen, people from "Afrikada Duntay" coming from Europe and passing through their airport and their airline. Travelers were coming from Jubba, South Sudan, Djibouti-- a forty years old dictatorship that can not even run a small airline company--Somalis from around the globe, people from central Africa, Uganda, and other places. They got rich from the suffering of others, and the time has come that this artificial country to disappear from the map. I know many Somalis especially from those from Somaliland , Puntland, South West, Djibouti and many other places ,will be crying about the eventual demise of Mama Ethiopia, because no one will protect them from us, because we are coming for them. There will not be a guarantor for many artificial Somali states, then and only then, will the Somali state will take it's place. A friend of mine from Burco told me last week that as long as Ethiopia is there , somaliland is guaranteed to exist. Who knows , Allah works in a mysterious way and we might get back our state in another manner. . The realities on the ground were set long ago when the TPLf allied itself with rogue leaders in order to sideline the Amhara. They never worried about the Oromo, the only people they thought would make a serious challenge was the Amhara. The Tigre call the Amhara as supremacist , Nazi, or Naftenya which the Jijiga media also copies. The Oromo hated the Amhara more than anything, but that fortune was changed by Illey. Folks, we are suffering for what a ruthless and greedy Somali leader has sawed. Despite the loss of life in the hands of Oromo, there is still a chance to work with them and find solutions. One thing must be clear for everyone here that the the Somali interest is different than what the TPLF is leading to us and we must reject their direction. Ask yourself , despite the huge loss of the Somalis, why the Oromo leadership is accusing the Tigre army of orchestrating some of the events. It is like Trump supporters. No one can reason with them. One thing I agree with the Old Observer is that we Somalis must stay together and storm the coming wave. I hope we may survive. Finally, Yoniz, Anigu Dhashii kacaanka kuu soo barbaaray ee weliba berigaa kacaanka necbaa ayaan ahay, laakiin markaan dib u eegay, dalba kacaankii barakeysnaa kama dambyn. Mid kacaankii hore ka duwan oo ka sal balaadhan ayy laga yaabaa in uu yimaadee, ha noqon kuwa la soo qaqabanyo. Waa iga talo.
  6. It is a typical Somali government moves of the last 27 years. Hebel ayaa polisku soo xidheen oo jeelka Hargeisa la dhigay. waxa lagu eedeeyey in uu wax dhacay, iyo dembiyo kale oo waaweyn. Dhawr cash ka dib odayaal baa madaxweynaha u tagay oo ninkii waa la soo daayey. Ninkii oo la soo daayey shirjraa'id buu qabtay o dawladii ayuu dhulka ku jiiday.
  7. Shariif Ahmedkii Maxakamadaha sheeganayey ee Ethiopia hoos galay ayaanu diidnay. Hassan Sheikh oo Ethiopia magan saday ayaanu diidnay. Sideen U ogolaanaynaa Farmaajo oo Ethiopia iyo Maraykan hoos galay. Anaga nalagu cabsiin maayo afar wiil oo baabuur teckniko ah meelaha la wareegaysa , mar marna waxyaabaha qarxa Shabeelaha ku soo xidho. DAgaalku waa mid Soomaaliyeed , Soomaali ayaana is xoraynaysa. Ogolaan mayno maalinba mid maareeya ah in naoo soo cimaamado.
  8. Bal car wakaase Farmaajo ha ka hadlo Soomaalida lagu xasuuqay Ethiopia. It is the responsibility of the Ethiopian government to keep the people save. Through Cabdi Illey, the TPLF will raise hell if one single Somali group meets in Jijiga or Harowo, let alone having gun. How Somalis are allowed to be murdered at the custody of security forces. The time has come for the people in Somali Galbeed to arm themselves and free themselves from both the Tigray enemy, The Oromo and Illey. Ciyaal aan taariikh iyo Sooyaalka Soomalida garanayn ayaa hogaankii gacanta u galay.
  9. A reliable source told me that the Somali government was acting on intelligence they got from a foreign government , possibly Qatar regarding C. Cabdishakur. THey told the government about large amount of money transferred from UAE to the opposition. Unfortunately , all they got was less than 13,000 dollars of cash, and a satellite telephone. Yesterday it was Ethiopia and Kenya with their armies and proxies , now it is the fake gulf countries bribing and buying. THe best solution is to opt out of the Arab league.
  10. I feel the pain of the Somali victims, but unless we address the real issues this problem will not go away. The Tigre regime has a plan to depopulate the Somali region, especially the rich regions. They have finally unleashed a dormant giant that supposed to hunt the TPLf click and directed their hatred toward us. Folks, this is about survival, and the four million Somalis under the tyranny of Cabdi Illey could not survive the onslaught of the 40 million Oromo. We have to rebuild the our relationship with the Oromo and find a united front against the TPLF. Anything else is false pride and the demise of the Somalis in the region.
  11. Also, unlike the Oromo Somalis do not have federal leaders to lobby or put pressure to the Tigray. All you have is a killer who has no one other than the Tigray. Folks, greed , oppression and tyranny will bring down the Somali region.
  12. There is a huge unreported issues that are happening in the region, and it is all about politics. Let us divide the issue in two parts if you will. No one kills anyone in Ethiopia without the permission of the authority whether that is police or military. It is all been orchestrated by Addis Ababa government. Night raida are taking place and no one knows who started the killings on both sides. The Oromo expansion and Cabdi Iley factor. First, the Oromo expansion was happening for the last 30 years in the Somali region due to cultural similarities with Somalis and their Islamic faith. Also, having similar names helped them to easily assimilate with Somalis. Unlike other ethnic groups the Oromo are the one community that is claiming Somali territories including the coast by invoking old historic names of the region. In Ethiopia, there is a saying that ," Everyone has his own religion ,but the country belong to all" (Dalka waan wada leenahay, Diimuhuna waan kala leenahay) which made the ORomo ideology ignore the cultural similarities they have with Somalis, yet emphasize and embrace the ethnic identity of the other Oromos who might be Christian or Animist without faith. The typical Somali nomad was brought out that as long as someone is Muslim he is your brother and he could settle among your territories. Those who have experienced the Oromo killing believe that the best solution for Somalis is to leave the Oromo dominated regions and build their own farms and businesses within their own communities. The Somali nomad and farmer who roomed all over the place and set up shops and other trades within the Oromo should think twice and separate himself just like Amharas and other ethnic groups had abandoned the Somali and Oromo region after the formation of the ethnically pure zones. Unlike the sophisticated Amhara the Oromo people could not hide their hatred and intentions, so basically what you see is what you get. Now the issue is why the Oromo and Somali conflict flare up at this juncture?. The referendum in the disputed area was taken in 2004, and the Somalis lost almost 80% of the disputed villages and towns. The Somalis and their leaders in the region both rejected this referendums which put traditionally Somali towns under the Oromo authority. People could not believe that Jinacani and Baabili which are the municipalities that surrounded Jijiga area were voted for Oromo. Oromo peasants looking for menial jobs and accommodation flooded these area and settled as a displaced people seeking livelihood. After ten years, they become the majority and got the vote, but the Somali leaders and the community rejected this encroachment of the Oromo and the referendum. Because of strong opposition from Somalis the TPLF stopped the implementation of the referendum. The years that followed the referendum , the TPLF under Meles Zanawi were involved in the invasion of Somalia between 2006-2010, and decided not to aggravate the situation while strategically undermining the Somali Republic. Until now , all was well among the Oromo and the Somalis despite the outcome of the referendum which pitted communities to one another. So the question is why now?. To answer that question, we must bring the criminal called Cabdi Illey. Since the demise of dictator Meles the Somali region became a base for rent seeking Tigray generals and politicians. The figurehead prime minister does not have any say in the matter, and the Somali region is controlled by the army chief of staff general Samora and the commander of the 4th brigade Gen. Abraha . Abdi Illey is not a Somali nationalist who bargains the interest of the Somali people in the so called ethnic federal system of Ethiopia, but an opportunist reading the psyche and the mood of Tigray army generals while enriching them with the resources allocated by the federal system. He is a ruthless , paranoid and cruel leader who will do anything to coerce people to adulate him and obey without condition. With the permission of the Tigray, he has an absolute power to kill, jail and invade any community in the region and in return offer the loyalty of the entire Somali region to the the Tigray commanders. According to analysts "Abdi Iley has auctioned out a number of policy gains by the previous Somali regional leaders which had huge sentimental values for the Somali people". In fact, these changes did not made any difference for the Tigray military commanders political capital , yet he used to show his loyalty, among them: 1-He removed the blue star from the flag and tried to resemble the Tigray one 2-He changed the Somali holiday days of Thursday afternoon and Friday which allowed people to attend Friday prayers and and changed to Saturday and Sunday. 3-He presided the largest land transfer from the Somali region to the Afar and others without due process. Theses had names similar to Afar names but the residents were 70% Somali which would have allocated the land to Somali region. IN fact under Cabdi Iley , all disputed Somali territories were changed hands to Afar and Oromo. No Somali territory has changed hands before 2008. 4-Traditional Somalis like Jarso who are ethnic Somalis, but culturally live among the Oromo decided to join the Oromo than live under the cruel system run by Canbdi Illey. Believe me if other Somalis had a chance to abandon and leave the Somali zone they would. Under the supervision of the Tigray regime Cabdi Iley then started policies that undermines the harmony among somalis and others in the region particularly the Oromo. When an independent seeking Oromos gathered in millions in big cities around the country, Cabdi lley organized counter protests in Jijiga that denounced the Amhara and Oromo aspirations. He even send Ogdeen elders to Makelle with 10 million Ethiopian Bir to compensate the Tigray civilians who became refugees from the amhara region. Furthermore, When the Ethiopian federal police could not handle the millions of demonstrators in Addis and surrounding Oromo area, he sent the Liyuu police to crackdown on the civilians. Folks , people had seen all this in the internet. The hatred created by the actions of this man was growing but no was reporting. It was just a few months ago, here in SOL , we said that Somalis should not take the side of the ruling Tigray and should not deny, and become obstacle for the Oromo their right to be free. as As we speak, he arrested all prominent Somali businessmen in Jijiga after they favored for peace and reconciliation with Oromo. I have extensively collected a lot of information about Illey and the threat he poses to the Somali people in the region. A farmer in south Jijiga who was trained in Somali university told me lately that that if Illey and his people are not stopped , the zone will be worse than what we have seen before. WAxa uu yidhi , " waa dhaqanka waxayaabihii dumiyey Soomaaliya, dadkanina waa kuwii dumiyey Jamuuriyadii". As many of you have said these events are underreported by the media. THe plan was to create a total war that pitted the Somali Liyuu police against the Oromo police and eliminate both of them through all out war . The Somali community in Jijiga told Cabdi Illey that the Tigray are trying to eliminate the Liyuu police by clashing with Oromo, ( In labada ciidan la isku jebiyo ayaa la rabaa. Ciidanka Oromadu awood ma lahayn shan sano ka hor , laakiin hadda way hubaysan yihiin). It seems that Cabdi Illey has refused to go to total war, and there is a plan to remove him. He was In Addis for weeks, and the powerful Oromo federal members had demanded Cabdi Iley to be removed from power. The Tigray suggested that both Illey and Lagase , the Oromo regional leader resign, but the Oromo guy openly refused, and was backed by his federal comrades. The TIgray want to unleash the final war between the two communities before CAbdi Illey is removed. Unlike Faysal Rooble and those who are cheering Cabdi Illey, i do believe his removal could be a blessing for Somalis , and maybe some safety. .
  13. Alah ha u naxariisre Dr. Cumar Raabe waxa uu yidhi mudo laga jogo 17 sano, in nabada Soomaaliland ay gacanta Meles ku jirto. It will be be plan C or D of Ethiopia. After we conclude the Mogaishu issue and the regional government, Somaliland will be where Ethiopia will make it's last stand. Anoo kale, Nin yahow waad iga qoslisay. Jawaabta kooban eed bixisay waxay i tusaysaa in aad tahay mitid Soomaaliyeed oo aan hadhayn. Waanan ku taageersanahay. Waana laguu baahan yahay.
  14. Holac, ninyahow you won the argument. Without foreign money farmaajo would not be president. Fahad yasin wouldn’t be running villa Somalia His body guards are Ugandan and he is bankrolled by foreign players. Yoniz the dark mafia of Mogadishu should be handled by the people and the government with united front. The Islamic courts defeated the warlords with the support of the public. Yet, a government propped by foreign forces will not be allowed to crush dissent by military force. Also, someone who was acting like a duck for the whole year suddenly can not become a lion. When things got tough he run away to Ethiopia and Uganda. For that and many other reasons he doesn’t have the legitimacy to crush the opposition.
  15. Holac you are correct. Before, it used to be the president who bribed and whipped the parliament to depose the prime minister, now it is the other way around. The parliament is whipped to bring down farmaajo, if they get the majority vote , no military powers could stop that
  16. Look guys, the the gulf people and the saudis are the most hated countries around the globe. Cabdishakur and cumar sharmaarke have no future in Somali politics and they must be discredited. Yet , in politics everything is about optics. They should have enlarged the arrest warrant and included xidig, Cumar sharmaarke and few more, and explain how these people were using foreign money to bring down the government. All li we see is a government targeting the opposition especially those who hail from galmudug which sends alarm to everyone. Do do not make martyrs for a washed up politician like cabdishakur. Folks it is all about confedence Only paranoid leaders would jump the gun and create more problems. Look at Muuse biixi chasing a singer in Borama or beating a crazy but innocent man like dabcasar
  17. Che, We all know that UAE is involved in these issues, So, why not the president or the prime minister speak out against the gulf guys.If they were smart enough they would have started with Cumar C/rashiid by going to court and order an investigation. If they think that H/G is a low hanging fruit or the leaders of the opposition that must be crushed, then they had already lost. Last month I did talk to a Somali contractor who resides in Halane , and like many people he kept blaming the Galmudug community on most of the issues which is a knee jerk reaction of people who could not do their constitutional duties to keep their citizens save. Al-shabaab is in Jubba, Shabeele, Bay, Bakool,Hiiraan, and many other places. Why blame the un armed opposition in Mogadishu which is against Al-shabab for your short comings. Again , it is a bad move.
  18. This is a bad move. Even the most amateurish politicians would not move this way against un armed opposition. I guess, someone is cooking the new civil war of Somalia. This is the move of a paranoid leadership that can not take a heat from the podium of an opposition microphone. Imagine Hassan Sheikh arresting Puntland members in MOgadishu. Bad leaders always fall on the open trabs that is paved for them to fall. The C/raxman C/Shakur community feels being targeted already by the government and now this. Raiding the home of a political opponent in the middle of the night and killing his bodyguards is a recipe for disaster. . The success of the government against Al-shabaab and terrorists will eventually diminish the opposition and take the air out of the opposition. Mr. Farmaajo, you should know that your job is not to worry about the unarmed opposition , but those who are armed and dangerous. You got a lot of work in your plate than flame tribal hatred and animosity by targeting the loyal opposition. If there is money coming from foreign players, then follow legal channels and speak out openly about those states. My friend , you have more problems in MOgadishu than chase the wrong tribe. If these kids keep going this route , then it is the duty of the parliament to remove them from power. If any leader thinks that his crown is more important than the country itself, then he must be stopped before he creates more chaos. He should know that neither America , Kenya or Ethiopia will save him from a tribal war. We will all lose. Mr. president, Apologize and release this man immediately or you will create a civil war that could be similar with those we had seen in 1991. After that, please remove prime minister Khayre before he plunges this country in to unknown territory. It is a warning. If you are unable to manage the problems facing the state t, then you must give up and resign.
  19. I think we Somalis should not be very close of the America of Trump. He is destructive, and he does not have empathy for victims of war or what is going on in Somalia. In America he deported over a thousand Somalis with less than a year. On the war on terror and defeating insurgents and terrorists, the American record of defeating terror is almost zero. Experts would tell you that they manage conflicts, but they do not win. Look at Yemen, Syria, Afghanistan. In Iraq , the local government pushed the war with help of America, but it was the Iraqi forces that took the brunt of the war, and it should be like that. If you have strong military and civilian leadership you could take advantage of the American air power with Somali ground forces engaging the enemy, but drone and air strike alone will not do the job. Another thing that we learned in Afghanistan is the more foreign troops you bring the more you invite many conflicting interest that desire different outcomes. At the end if you do not have a Somali army , you are doomed to fail.
  20. Mooge waa runtaa lacagtaa anagu maynaan arag. They divided among the crooks. Maakhiri, You right ,Compare to other countries it is small. Nowadays, modern nations borrow huge money for infrastructure and capital expenditure. They use the money for ports, airports, eight lane highways and life sustaining projects. That kind of debt is acceptable. The highway you build today will be used by your grand children. Or even if necessary procure arms for the defence of the nation. I would borrow a billion to build roads that connect the nation and improve trade and mixing of the people. O the other hand no government should never borrow money for government operation. That kind of aid goes to the drain and to the pockets of donors and corrupt officals.
  21. Ak, Give Somaliland some slack ninyahow. On the other hand for sure they lack confidence. In the Somali parliament they have 28 members. If you add the upper chamber they reach 33 members. If we and others join them, definitely they could easily muster fifty or more. That is a good place to start and win the Somali presidency. Hase yeeshee Kalsoonidaa in ay Soomaali oo dhan gacanta ku dhigaan ma leh. I wish they would have half of my self confidence of taking over Somalia. On chairman Cirro in the last part of the campaign he acted as God fearing man. If you see his visit t Daami district of Hargeisa and his promise to nominate his first cabinet from that community. What I lament is this KUlmiye Government never had a real opposition for seven years. Faysal Waraabe literally joined their agenda , and Cirro was passive. They bought everyone else. Despite all the weaknesses and skyrocketing inflation and poverty , they never faced protests organized by the opposition. If there were real opposition, they would have folded early and would have abandoned their candidate. ON the other hand if every thing is based on Qabiil, then it does not make a difference.
  22. I see only one woman in the photo. Barwaaqo, meesha haweenkii maxaa u diiday. Mise mar haddii qabiil laga hadlayo Haweenku reer ma mataaan?
  23. The first deception. In the 2010 Somaliland election, the UCID party led by Faysal Waraabe and Mohamed Rashiid got 17.8% of the vote. This was the second defeat of the UCID chairman , yet in both those elections his chances were small. Faysal was the third party challenging a sitting president and former SNM leader and political heavyweight Ahmed Siilaanyo. AS such , Chairman Faysal was justified to try a third term after Ahmed Siilaanyo. With C/raxman Cirro as the speaker of the parliament and Faysal as the candidates , the so called tribal grouping that is claimed today could have been formed and the chances of Faysal winning would have increased, although it was difficult to dislodge the power from the corrupt coalition of Kulmiye. As soon as Ahmed Siilaanyo swore to the office, he hastily, without consultation or party convention , transferred the chairmanship of Kulmiye to Muuse Biixi. Yet , at time , no one in their right mind thought that Muuse could win or even survive a party dominated so many heavyweights like: C/caziiz Samaale, Hersi, Mohamed Biixi and others. Everyone considered him as an enforcer not a leader. The first move to replace Ahmed Siilaanyo was started in Djibouti. It all started when in November 2010, Ahmed Siilaanyo visited Djibouti. During the meeting of a non official gathering between Ahmed Siilaanyo and members of the Djibouti elite including former governor of the Djibouti central bank and the brother in law of president Cumar Geelle, suddenly Ahmed Siilaanyo , due to the ongoing dementia and other cognitive issues, fell asleep in his couch. Everyone , either shocked or surprised, but lieutenant Hersi who is both taking care of the president and managing the affairs of the office, calmly told everyone that the president is tired and some medicine he took made him sleep, and quickly moved him to a suite in the hotel. The business oligarchs of Djibouti who have both family, business and political interest in Hargeisa made their first move. C/raxman Cirro , through Aadan M. Waqaf, the vice chairman of UCID, moved against Faysal Waraabe and asked to give the leadership to Cirro and explicitly told him that his term as a chairman was over. Since Faysal was the man who schooled chairman Cirro, he refused and declared war to keep his party and property--the UCID party. The matter went to court , but due to clan pressures and other issues , the court decided that the party must hold a convention within three months and at the meantime , Faysal would remain the chairman. Also , Amed Siilaanyo did not want a war from Waraabe clan family in Hargeisa. By the summer of 2011, the wife of president Cumar Geelle and her Banker brother wired three instalment of $630,000 dollars to the parliament speaker C/raxman Cirro*(1). Another blood relative and businessman ,and chairman of SomCable Mohamed Aw Saeed --he has monopoly on all internet services in Somaliland--, put his bet on Kulmiye and their future leaders. Their intention was to have two horses in the race and also to eliminate the UDUB party who had the support of 35% of the people. Then president Rayaale refused to give monopoly to Ina Aw Saeed and offered the licence to him and another company called Telesom, owned by former company called Al-Barakaat which was later sanctioned by former president BUsh after 911. Due to the financial capital C/raxman Cirro recieved, suddenly all the chairmen of UCID party in the six regions of Somaliland simultaneously announced their resignation from UCID party led by Faysal Waraabe. In early October 2011, chairman Cirro officially launched the Waddani party, and 75% of the sitting UCID members of the parliament changed their allegiance to Waddani party that has to yet win legitimacy. C/caziiz Samaale, the vice speaker, spoke at the ceremony and openly asked Ahmed Siilaanyo to speed up the local elections which UDUB party requested to be postponed until a vote registration takes place , and encouraged the Waddani party to replace UDUB. FAysal went ahead and chose two energetic young man to be the next candidates of the party while he would remain the chairman. Due to the financial help from Jamaal Cali Huseen and others the UCID party became part of the final three. Without the tireless campaign of Jamaal and Mataan, Ucid could not have survived the cut. There was a big challenge within the ruling party to become the candidate for the next election. Muuse Biixi was challenged by MOhamed B. Yoonis and C/cziiz Samale. If normal convention would have taken place, definitely Muuse would have lost. He intimidated Siilaanyo and his cohorts at the palace and promised a bloody war if Ahmed Siilaanyo reneged his promise to make him the candidate. Ahmed Siilaanyo and his lieutenants were facing strong opposition from east, Awdal and now Muuse in Hargeisa. From 2011 and on, they were rulling through bribes and patronage. Whoever speaks against the government and his deteriorating health issues of the president , were either paid cash or appointed to one of the 70 ministers. Now, a renegade Muuse will join the opposition and would use any means necessary to frighten the crowd from Burco who is probed up by the west Hargeisa crowd. He started few fire bombs within the city and no one was arrested. Then a former deputy security minister joined the fray and accused the government of releasing dozens of extremists accused or convicted of terrorism. To silence him they raided his home in the middle of the night and wounded and arrested his body guards. Yet, the fire bombing continued, and finally Ahmed Siilaanyo caved in by fearing that these kind of nightly fire bombs might bring other criminals and extremist groups which might bring his government to instability. He was correct to silence him or Al-shabaab or might have taken advantage. Ahmed Siilany and his wife, the finance minister and the Djibouti businessmen agreed that Muuse must be crowned, and if Hersi, who was pushing Mohamed B. Yoonis whom he brought from Daarfuur, insisted, then he must be told to accept this decision or else. Hersi resigned and took with him almost a dozen ministers he hired before, and as the man who was running the government for five years, he thought that he will eventually bring down Muuse in the long run. The second deception. When Muuse won the candidacy his biggest challenge was not C/raxman Cirro, but the young incoming candidate of the UCID party that might take a huge chunk of his base. In order to sideline Jamaal , the UCID chairman was called to the palace and paid handsomely to expel Jamaal Cali from the UCID candidacy. HE went to Djibouti and got an alleged $300 from the business oligarchs. He was as also brought to the government's agenda and made part of the both local and foreign agenda of the ruling party. He was nominated to be part of Somalia negotiations and was also given his share of Dubai port bonuses. Just like last time, the court ruled that a party convention must be held and rejected the earlier convention that nominated Jamaal and C. X. Mataan. Finally Muuse has got his wish of facing C.raxman Cirro, a very weak candidate that never opposed any agenda or went against any proposal from the ruling Kulmiye. Chairman Faysal got both the cash and the revenge of defeating Cirro. Chairman Cirro was controlled opposition. In order to defeat Rayaale and claim the leadership once in his lifetime, Ahmed Siilaanyo has promised many people to replace him. Among them were Dr. Gaboose, Muuse Biixi, C/caziiz Samaale and C/raxman Cirro. Dr. Gaboose was too strong for the business oligarchs. For the last five years, Cirro never spoken or protested any policy by the government. He never spoke against the theft of the public property, the tribal hegemony of the ruling coalition , the extra judicial nature of the police and the courts or the grievances of the other regions namely Awdal. When the Awdal elders demanded equal representation and Ahmed Siilaanyo transfer it to the parliament , Cirro rejected and said this is not the right time. For all this years, he never marched or publicly protested any government action. Hersi , who helped Cirro and Waddani to make the final cut , sometimes threatened him to take away his speakership when he refused to play ball or objected the government agenda. By getting Hersi as a member, Cirro thought that he found the key to the palace. The most important aspect of his failure was that he did not understand the role of the opposition in Africa or in the horn of Africa. Since the government would not play by the rules and use public coffers to enrich and use to win election, , the role of the opposition is to expose them and fight them to every move they make. Your job is to replace them no matter what. If you are unable to replace them electorally, them you must work hard to dismantle their hegemony and monopoly in government , public institutions and security. Fight and keep fighting them until they become weak and discardable. The tale of the election. As the opposition, you already knew that the evil coalition will do anything to hang on on power. The first indication was the inability of the commission to release early results. That alone should have rang a bell to everyone. That was among some of the main reason the Kenyan election was overturned. The court found that " the irregularity in the transmission of results". They should have also alarmed by the huge child voters found in Gabiley , Burco and Hargeisa. In his first address when he rejected results and accused the commission of ignoring incidents that could damage the integrity of the election, opposition leaders started to prepare and challenge the results. For example , the Awdal based vice presidential candidate Mohamed Cali and his supporters were told to mobilize and ready for huge protests. Those in AWDal were also prepared lawyers from Nairobi and London to challenge the result and go to courts. With an email exchange i had with one of the leaders, I told him that they must take these crucial steps in order to win, form a coalition government or a second round election. Of course, here in SOL, I am expanding them for the readers to get the whole picture. 1-Do not accept the result. Do not accept the results until all polling stations were audited. The system were set up in a way that people could only vote in the district they had registred. So, you must verify the wrong people did not vote at the wrong polling stations. 2-Early mistakes broke the camel's back. Because of the huge discrepancy in the early transmission of the results, you must find the real reasons the results were changed. Everyone was celebrating as early results from the observers came in. 3- The Gabiley (Wanlaweyn district of 1960) must be checked rigorously. Of course Wajaale, Alaybaday and Arabsiyo are part of Gabiley district , yet 60,000 is impossible in that district. Most the people in Wajaale and Gabiley reside in Hargeisa and travel for family or business reasons. In 2011, when I visited Gabiley, almost everyone had left either for Hargeisa, Borama or Wajaale. They told us that over 300 families had left for Borama. Just last summer a friend told me that Gabiley is a ghost town, and he swore that you could find 5000 people in that town. Some of the things that took place was the flipping of the WAddani observers. IMagine the young man you chose to observe was given few hundred dollars by the oligarchs and he changed allegiance or failed to show up, especially in the coastal regions and Gabiley. 4-A million people registered. 780,000 people got their cards ,and 550,000 voted. That itself is huge discrepancy. People were told to take their card within two weeks or they will expire and you will never retrieve them again. Why make the life ofthe people difficult to get their card?. Why not allow people to come and pick through the year?. THe opposition must locate where these cards are at the moment. 5- Go to the courts. Go to the local courts and take your time to prepare your case. Get international lawyers from London and Nairobi to litigate your case. In fact, get those who were involved the Kenyan election and get publicity. 6-Your role is to replace them or disband them, or alla Odinga style. Since the ruling oligarchs in Africa do not play by the rules and abuse the public trust, loot the public purse and use the public coffers for elections , your job is to replace them as a government or disband the tribal and hegemonic system that is nurturing them. With all the money that poured from Dubai, Djibouti and government coffers , every logical person knows that these people were not prepared to lose. You must realize in the early stages as the opposition leaders that you will be dismantling an entrenched tribal system that must be either destroyed or replaced. The HArgeisa West oligarchs were sucking the blood from everyone since 1997. We just heard as late as 2015 that the world bank used to offer business enhancing grants, yet that was taking place in Somaliland since 1997, and these oligarchs were the only beneficiary As I said, the issue is not only about the election but also the dismantling of the entrenched oligarchs. Demand international and regional mediation which not only focuses the irregularities in the election , but also targets the police , security and military which is intended for reform, and must reflect the entire people not the only the corrupt coalition. Eventually, as Railla Odinga did in 2008, you must force them to make a national coalition government that shares power with the opposition. With the party supports across Somaliland , now is the time to pressure the ruling click. With inflation skyrocketing and looting of public land and corruption, now is the time to dismantle these people. Letting them rule again is rewarding thieves to the crown. In the end, do not give Muuse Biixi the badly needed legitimacy. He must earn every inch of legitimacy by accepting reform after you conceded or the protest will continue. They can not keep shooting peaceful protesters or things could get ugly. That was the move a real opposition would do. Some of you would say that, my desire is to push the instability of Somaliland on the brink, but my intention is to deny impunity and create something that could have been shared by both the opposition and the ruling class which would have led to a real reform. THe problem was the man who supposed to lead the opposition was a member of the ruling oligarchy for a long time and his intention was to create and form something similar of the Kulmiye party. With all the corrupt politicians of the last twenty years joining Waddani including old farts like Ismaaciil Buuba, chairman Cirro wanted to created corrupt coalition. So what did Cirro and the boys did after the fact. While those in AWdal were planning their next move to challenge the result, Hersi H. Cali, Aadan Dhoola Yare and C/qadir Jirde started already a process to negotiate and recoup some of their money lost in the campaign. According to sources, Hersi met, Mohamuud Hashi, the palace minister and others from the Siilaanyo tribe in order to calm the waters and push the opposition to accept the result, but also the to get back over a million dollar he spent on the Waddani party campaign . As a young leader who has his political future ahead, Hersi had already decided to move ahead and made interviews that contradicted chairman Cirro by saying that they will accept the result. My sources told me that chairman Cirro was offered undisclosed amount of money to him personally by the Biixi camp , and most of that money was wired from Djibouti to Nairobi. While Cirro has built a very huge party through his low key maneuvers and negotiations, he was never a real threat to the ruling class. People familiar with him said that Ahmed Siilaanyo and others had sent wrong signals that reassured him but also disarmed his ability to challenge them forcefully. Rather than fight them as a real opposition that was willing to fight them on every inch and make them vulnerable, he got comfortable with their agenda of silencing him politically while pretending to work with him. Even before the election started he lost his last card to stop Kulmiye. Finally Chairman Cirro lost or had thrown his last card . When the parliament held a vote to replace him, his coalition lost 39 vs 38 against Baashe , a Kulmiye member who made chairman Cirro life difficult during the last five years. After careful monitoring of the video in the chamber, it was apparent that , the Waddani coalition had won the vote 39 vs 38 . THey had the opportunity to challenge the result and reconvene the members since the momentum was their side. There were a lot of members who were sitting on the fence earlier, but willing to switch allegiance to Waddani this time around. Rather than push the issue and keep the parliament speakership in order to use it for the future if they fail to win the election. Chairman Cirro conceded and gave to Baashe . The Parliament would have been a place to challenge even the election results or for the future impeachment of Biixi if he transgresses. He said " Xashkaan tagayaa oo waan ka ducaysanayaa labadan nin'. They even told him that in 2010, before the election Ahmed Siilaanyo went to Hajj and after that he won the election. The strange thing was for the last three months of the campaign he wore white KHamiis and and put a long " tusbax" in his neck looking like a Suufi.Who knows, maybe those Suufi guys he associated with might have told him that they seen him as president and told him to do all these strange things( Qaar baa malaha waxay ku yidhaahdeen waxaan ku aragnay adigoo Madaxweyne ah). In the end, if his last message of saying that " A blood will not be shed on my own ego" is genuine, then he must be a God fearing man who should not have entered the corrupt oligarch system that has taken place in Hargeisa for the last seven years. The good people of Somaliland were willing to participate and vote in democratic manner, yet it was the politicians who decided to travel the tribal road. THey would have addressed and courted people by city or region without calling the tribes, but they intentionally decided to promote tribal car and politics. IN 2010 election, you would not see RAyaale going to election halls with banners proclaiming the allegiance of certain tribe. Even though Siilaanyo started his journey in the town of Garadag, he did not campaigned like Cirro and Muuse. It was really ugly and tribal all the way to the end. Finally, the election is over and Biixi won, but in order for him to succeed, he must dismantle the tribal coalition that they and the Burco boys has created. THey should no longer lead army , police (the vice police chief is from Biixi camp) and security, finance and foreign policy, commerce and all foreign aid financed agencies. He must dismiss the police chief who allowed mayors, ministers and others to arrest those who oppose them or dislike. " Mayorki Berbera ayaa hebel xidhay" that is what you hear every day. The police and the courts must be independent , and the habit of elders, mayors, and ministers arresting people at will must end. THe warlord military chief who is in charge of the army for the last twenty years must be also replaced. The corrupt coalition has always talked about representation and equal distribution of power, yet they never vacate one single seat. When they tried to pamper the Sool people and Khaatumo, it was Cali Waran Cadde from West Burco who vacated his ministry of interior seat. When chairman Cirro was replaced as the speaker it was him who vacated the seat for Sool people. Why not replace the corrupt finance minister or others from the oligarchy?. Why Saleebaan Gaal vacate the Guurti chairmanship to Cali Kh. Galayr? YOu can not fool people all the time. It was Ahmed Siilaanyo who in 2009 openly said he will negotiate with Somalia. He signed the American led memorandum of understanding that will lead to unity, yet these same people were accusing others of taking to Somalia. Real reform must take place and the evil coalition must be dismantled. That must be the real job of the coalition. They must elect a temporary leader who only leads the party at this transition period. This person should not be from Hargeisa or even Berbera, the home of the chairman Cirro, because these groups had proven to be weak and corrupt. So far we have seen Cali Waran Cadde and Cirro, who were not resilient under pressure. I would put Hersi or Mohamed Jamac Abgaal from Awdal as the interim leaders, and if the west Burco guys want to try one more time, they must bring a real leader who is capable of dismantling the coalition or others must be given the chance. Who knows, looking back , maybe the people of Somaliland had missed a bullet or a weak leader who would have acted indecisive and who would have made the system more corrupt . Few years ago i said that , " how come this man is weak both in his speech and manners, and yet , he is not even 70 years old". Others say that because of the fear certain segments of Somaliland have for West Burco, weak characters like Cirro are the right person to sell. I am not kidding , but a very prominent member of UCID party told me that the West Burco is like H/G of Somaliland and a lot of people fear them their domination. They reside in Hargeisa, Bebera, Burco and Sanaag, and with coalition of AWdal coalition "Afarta Gabiley joogta anagaa soo qaqabanaynaa, malaha cabsidu waa run". Despite all the the election talk, the Somaliland election is much fairer than most in the region including the Kenyan one. So, despite all the problems, the people might have moved on the right direction. My main observation was the shortcomings of Cirro and how a real opposition would have dismantled Biixi and company.
