May be this is not where many think a suitable partner can be found and want only to participate in discussions. Some do meet online, but I guess most people don't have the intension of meeting someone when registering online in a discussion forum. It depends on the person you ask anyway but this is why I think people you mentioned resisted.

I am curious..what's the purpose behind these meet-ups you're organising? To find a bride? To get ppl to hook up? Or just to meet your fellow forumers?

 

If it's the latter, I don't think many ppl will mind (although keeping a level of anonymity is important to some).
