I though i share dis article. It shows the problems of Khat. We import millions worthy of Khat every year from neighboring countries into major Somali cities like Mogadisho, Hargiesa, Kismayo, etc. This is a money wasted, and farther more Khat ruin lifes and relationship. I think it is about time we should educate our people about the dangers of dis drug. (Atleast talk to those that will care to listen). Hundreds of protestors have marched through the streets of a Somaliland town after the price of a mild narcotic leaf, known as Khat, was doubled. The stimulant is widely chewed in the breakaway state and across the region. At the end of the holy Muslim month of Ramadan demand soars and so do prices, but the BBC's Hussein Ali Nur says protests are quite unprecedented. The security forces in the central town of Burao fired shots in the air to deter the marchers. According to a journalist there, the authorities held an emergency meeting with Khat suppliers and agreed to drop the prices back down to nearer the pre-Ramadan level. Many onlookers expressed said they would have been more supportive if they had been protesting about the price of food and other commodities, which have also increased dramatically this year. There is a lucrative business in the mild stimulant which is mainly chewed by men who sit in groups for long hours. The Khat trade has been the cause of many disturbances in the past. Source: BBC.Com

LONDON, England (Reuters) -- A comment last year by Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld on the hunt for Iraq's weapons of mass destruction was awarded the "Foot in Mouth" prize Monday by Britain's Plain English Campaign. Rumsfeld, renowned for his uncompromising tough talking, received the prize for the most baffling comment by a public figure. "Reports that say something hasn't happened are always interesting to me, because as we know, there are known knowns; there are things we know we know," Rumsfeld told a news briefing. "We also know there are known unknowns; that is to say we know there are some things we do not know. But there are also unknown unknowns -- the ones we don't know we don't know." John Lister, spokesman for the campaign, which strives to have public information delivered in clear, straightforward English, said: "We think we know what he means. But we don't know if we really know." Although Rumsfeld's comments were made at a news briefing in February 2002, they were nominated for this year's award. Rumsfeld, whose boss, President Bush, is often singled out by language critics for his sometimes unusual use of English, defeated actor-turned-politician Arnold Schwarzenegger for the booby prize. "I think that gay marriage is something that should be between a man and a woman," the new California governor said. Previous holders of the award include U.S. actress Alicia Silverstone and British Chancellor Gordon Brown. Last year's winner was actor Richard Gere. I thought dis article....Arnie Boy was exceptionaly funny.....Good luck to Cali

Looooool@ Muuraad Hibo....It is good thing to see young somalis helping in the fight against the virus. As world AIDS day nears, the future looks dim for many countries including our neighbors. Somalia can't afford AIDS pandemic coupled with prolonged civil war. Iam glad yu took time to go back home n promote AIDS awereness. I hope others including me will follow in your foot steps. I will definately be going back home next year.

sayfulaah-almasluul...Lets not revive "somaliyey toosoo toosoo isku tiirsada ee" slogan. Believe me we are better off divided. It seems the only reason we united in the first place ( If yu call that unity) was commonly shared opposition to foriegn dominatation. Once that was out of da picture, we turn each other. The sick thing about Somalis is their lack of empathy for each other. People loved to critise Sayyid Barre n wat he did, but the reality was the military junta used tribes to do their dirty work. As long as your tribe wasn't getting screwed, a somali was ok with the goverment was doing.

These men had noble ideas , and were sincere in their belief of uniting all somali speaking regions of the Horn, but everybody lost sight of that. The call for greater Somalia was failure from the very begining. Somalis never rewarded the patriots who fought for our independence. If anything those benefitted from Somalia's independence was ones that who collobarating with the colonialists. N those who died in 77 were never honored. It is not easy fighting for nation that don't apprecaite the sacfrice one makes. I think greater Somalia is useless thing to chase now, but we should support our people in SomaliGalbeed n NFD in their bid for independence. As for SSDf, SNM, USC, etc ignoring the goals of SYL. What did yu expect?. These orginazations are racists, qabiil-based, and useless institutions. They lacked vision, and were not certianly gonna bring social or polictical change to Somalia. The only thing they were good at is sending young men of their perspective tribes to death. Each entity sincerely believed in acheiving a goal in which Somalia is to be run by their own tribe. They all did preach hate n more hate. Looking at what they did to our land, I think it is fair to say a silverback has more brains than these idoits. Their lack in intelligence is clearly shown by their continues feeding feista on the corpes of what was Somalia. They keep chewing on our bones like the hynes they always were. They are worst thing happen to the somali, and Siyaad Barre was the second worst.

Opened fire on the big screen..Loooooooooool. It seems our people have gone from crazy to totally INSANE.....Man, this is funny Back to topic....As long as one is doing America's dirty work, The US will consider them "close ally and good friend"....History has no bearing on the decisions made by US foriegn policy makers. Besides why risk the lifes n limbs of Americans when yu get Aidid, Dheere, n Yusuf willing to sacrifice their own people.

Ethiopia's betrayal and hidden agendas towards Somalia
Che -Guevara replied to Sophist's topic in Politics
There was no question Ethopia is flexing its muslce, and wants to reach the warm waters of the Indian ocean. It will try to influence things in Somalia either directly or indirectly. One must ask him/herself though, what if Ethopia was in the same dillema as we somalis are in right now, and we were regional superpower. Obviously, we would used the oppurnity to farthern weaken Ethopia, try to reach greeny highlands of Abysinnia, and preach somalinism. After, we somalis are expasionists too, and we careless less to what happens ethopians. -

Pakistan women socialites embrace Islam
Che -Guevara replied to Conscious Manipulation's topic in General
It is good to see pakis learning their religion. Unfortunetely, Pakis like somalis have mix of culture and religion, n often ppl can't tell one from the other. Then, there is extremist mullahs who talk about Naar alway day rather than teach all the aspects of this beautiful religion. Anyway, it is good to see ppl returning to their roots. Malakia N Mizz-Unique.....wow...never paki somalis would miss "Home". Pakistan does have special place in my heart though. anyway, Malakia, i used to sleep through Islamic Studies. Man, they use to repeat same things over n again. Here is pics for all my nostolgic ex-paki somalis. Iam sure they r whole bunch in here. Faisal Masjic Blue Area -
PUNTLAND OPENS DIPLOMATIC OFFICE IN THE CAPITAL OF THE US.
Che -Guevara replied to General Duke's topic in Politics
Puntland is unlikely to realise any democratization of its institutions as long as Ina Yusuf is at da helm. The only thing dis man respects is sheer force. He is a meniac, not that other wackos are any better. I hope dis office serves some purpose, n not be just another client for foriegn powers to manipulate.
