Naxar. Do you know before the AKP, no Turkish Government was ever voted in twice and many never finished their terms. The military was source of political instability, Their unchecked power and influence hindered the growth of Turkey. To wish their inteference in order to safeguard secularism is to go back to the days where Governments finish their terms or give an opportunity to be elected. The Turkey needs a robust opposition, not a secular dictatorship. -

Thousands of protesters have demonstrated in the Ethiopian capital to demand the release of jailed journalists and activists. It is the first major demonstration on the streets of Addis Ababa since 2005 when hundreds of protesters were killed in violence. Demonstrators shouted slogans calling for freedom and justice. Ethiopia's governing party, the EPRDF, maintains strict control over public life in the East African country. The protests were organised by the opposition Semayawi (blue) party. Party chairman Yilekal Getachew told Reuters that as well as the release of the prisoners, the demonstrators also wanted action on unemployment, inflation and corruption in Ethiopia. Ethiopia's Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn took office in September 2012 following the death of Meles Zenawi. Tolerating dissent? The BBC's Africa analyst Richard Hamilton says the fact that the rally was given permission to be held at all, and passed off peacefully, suggests the new prime minister may be more tolerant of dissent than his predecessor. Human rights groups argue that the Ethiopian government has used a 2009 anti-terrorism law as a pretext to imprison members of the opposition and the press. The Committee to Protect Journalists says Ethiopia is close to replacing Eritrea as the African country with the most journalists behind bars. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-africa-22748834

If you honestly believe of the all the institutions the military is the only body that can kick out Erdogan out, then Turkey is f*ed. The military has done horrible job of running this country when it supposedly steps in to protect 'secularism'. And constitution is not really a constitution if it's conveniently and easily overridden by unelected body. -

Che -Guevara replied to Mooge's topic in General
These folks have been spared the economic crises of Europe, are no longer slaves to Brentwood institutions, have not had military coup, Turkey's influence expanding everyday, and the list goes on. Continue this and they will turn Turkey into Egypt. You can compete and defeat AK at the ballot box. Maybe they need to be reminded how sh!tty Turkey was during crisis in 1991/2000 and humiliating experience of trying to join EU. -

You believe Somali refugees are not victimized by the Kenyan Police?

Torture, Rape, Extortion, and Arbitrary Detention Near the Heart of Kenya’s Capital MAY 29, 2013 (Nairobi) Kenyan police in Nairobi tortured, raped, and otherwise abused and arbitrarily detained at least 1,000 refugees between mid-November 2012 and late January 2013, Human Rights Watch said in a report released today. The Kenyan authorities should immediately open an independent public investigation, and the United Nations refugee agency – which has not spoken publicly about the abuses – should document and publicly report on any future abuses against refugees, Human Rights Watch said. The 68-page report, “‘You are All Terrorists:’ Kenyan Police Abuse of Refugees in Nairobi,”is based on interviews with 101 refugees, asylum seekers, and Kenyans of Somali ethnicity. The report documents how police used grenade and other attacks by unknown people in Nairobi’s mainly Somali suburb of Eastleigh and a government order to relocate urban refugees to refugee camps as an excuse to rape, beat, extort money from, and arbitrarily detain, at least 1,000 people. The police described their victims as “terrorists,” and demanded payments to free them. Human Rights Watch also documented 50 cases in which the abuses would amount to torture. “Refugees told us how hundreds of Kenyan police unleashed 10 weeks of hell on communities close to the heart of Nairobi, torturing, abusing, and stealing from some of the country’s poorest and most vulnerable people,” said Gerry Simpson, senior refugee researcher for Human Rights Watch and author of the report. “Randomly attacking men, women, and children in their homes and in the streets is hardly an effective way to protect Kenya’s national security.” Click
