  1. LoL! Baashi, you beat me to it! Now it is going to sound like I'm just reciprocating, when I say I truly admire you too. You come across as an extremely reasonable individual, who tries to be objective about whatever topic is under discussion. However, what I like most about you, is the polite and friendly manner in which you deliver you replies. You are a class act, you are! Having said that, I also happen to admire the majority of the nomads here. There are so many characters on this site. LoL...You can't help but luv them.... ....including my two favourite ppl, Cambo and Ameenah. You girls have become my lifeline. I've also developed something of a crush on Che-guevara since he's joined. I don't know why, but I feel a sense of deja vu everytime I read his posts. Odd.
  2. Dear Farah... You love writing, huh? Well, I hate, detest and despise academic writing. So, erm, I was wondering if you could possibly write an essay for me? It's about the political economy of war, 3,500 words and is due on 9th Jan 2003. Should I fwd you the question and reading list?

  9. I'm not sure why but I'm feeling the passage of time now more than I have b4. I can't believe 2002 is already over when it just started yesterday. Is it me or is time whizzing by at headache-inducing speed?

  11. Rock's Chick... Good advice dear. Breast Cancer is the biggest lady killer. I'm sure more than one nomad here has had a relative or a friend affected by the disease. Ladies do make checking yourselves every couple of months a habit.
  12. I kinda like MinneFabulous...it looks like a groovy city. Looking at these images, I can see the few postcards I got didn't do the city much justice. U lot are good tour guides. Bravo!
  13. I don't know whether to laugh or beat u over the head wit a rock.
  14. Wildcattini... My little bundle of fur...how could u even think of abandoning ur cat heritage? What's happened to ur thick skin and nine lives? Granted the "blasphemous pig" title did nothing for u, but that's no reason to change the CAT into something she isn't. Bring Seven of Nine to the fore. She'll show ppl like Shyhem one or two things, I dare say!
  15. Mujahid...my fellow LondonLover... Tis good of u to share images of our adopted city with the nomads. Unfortunately it seems like some ungrateful Londoners are not doing what they should.  What should their punishment be? Leamante... Have a good trip dear, insha'alaah.
  16. Dangerous ground Shaqsii... PMS is a valid medical condition...which is treatable with hormones. Those who suffer from PMS can't help themsleves. I don't think any woman in her right mind would use it as an excuse to be abusive. More often than not, women who suffer from the most severe form of PMS, are the ones who don't think they have it at all...so they can't understand why they lose their temper/control so easily and so often. It's quite sad actually, because the syndrome affects every aspect of a woman's life...work, relationships with colleagues, friends & family and even mental health.
  17. Shaqsii... Sick stuff. I didn't bother watching it...no point in returning all the delicious food I had for casho.
  18. Well, Mahadi said (and very well too) most of what I would have. I agree with him. I would only add that the culture and ideology of consumerism, carried forward by globalisation, is deemed to be replacing religion in many aspects in the West. It's as if these ppl have been told that the be-all and end-all of life is to consume as many products as possible. Which reminds me of an article carried by the London Metro, which I read a while ago...apparently as many as 130 million ppl are being predicted to die of hunger/famine/malnutrition in the Third World, while 1 billion ppl are being predicted to die of obesity and related problems in the West. Mind-boggling. Pure, unadulterated greed comes to mind. Do we really want the McDonaldisation and Coca-Colalisation of the world? Methinks not. That is one thing somalia definitely doesn't need. Nationalism is another paradox. Ideally, as Muslims, there shouldn't be any boundaries or barriers between the Islamic ummah. Yet there are so many. Nationalism places sovereignty on the people of that particular nation...when in fact under Islam sovereignty rests with God. Having said that...nationalism is crucial for Somalia at the moment...if only to obliterate tribalism from our mindsets.
  19. Interesting...My kinda topic! I'm rushed for time at the moment so am gonna havta come back and post my piece later...insha'alaah.
  20. Here are some overdue pictures of that demonstration. This is Salma Yacoub, of the Birmingham Stop The War Coalition. I just luv her speeches...witty, eloquent and inspiring. She and George Galloway (Labour MP) were the highlights of the protest for me.
  21. Baashi, Tweety... Waad mahadsantihiin.
  22. Baashi... Thanx for the quotes...niyadaad ii dhistay! I agree whole-heartedly...we'll pull it off insha'alaah....by the grace of Allah.
  23. Ameenah....Ditto! Could it be possible that Islam has become the new 'enemy' because it is the only idealogy left to oppose capitalism from taking over the world? Since the end of the cold-war and the demise of Communism...the West in general and America in particular have been on a global mission to spread their capitalist ideals and neo-liberal agendas...usually by blackmail or force, through the IMF and World Bank policies and programs (i.e. Structural Adjustment Programs...SAPs). I find it very ironic that the minute the US (and capitalist system) claimed victory over the disintegration of the USSR (and communism of course)...the spotlight turned on Islam. I guess they had to find a new bogus 'enemy' to fill the chasm. Steve...why don't u ask urself why these so-called Islamic 'fundamentalists' and 'extremists' seem like a new phenomenon? After all, these ppl (Palestine, Kashmir, Chechnya, Afghanistan) have been in conflict way before 9/11. All the supposed 'attrocities' u've been hearing about have been going on for a long time, and have usually been inflicted on Muslims. Is it any wonder that they fight back? So, why the sudden interest? Maybe because that interest is very useful for Dubya's 'war on terrorism'. A war without end, without definition, without justification, without legitimacy and without a specific target (except that those attacked should be Muslims or of geo-political interest to the US). So please, the next time u get the urge to ask redundant questions...DON'T. U can't expect to come on a Muslim site and ask inane questions about Islam. I'm sure this has been said many times...but I'll say it again. If u want to know about the Islamic religion, read the Qur'an and the main Hadiths. Everything u want to know u'll find there. It's up to u to make up ur mind about whether Islam is a peaceful religion or not. I think I've said enough.
  24. That's pretty neat. I like the GeelJire 2 poster best.
