No Yacquub, that isn't the case. Although the interest on the loan is below market value...it still fluctuates with the base rate. Like u, I thought u just paid back what u borrowed. Then I read the small-print in one of the Department of Education and Employment Services's booklets on Student loans.

It's next to impossible to go into higher education in the UK without taking out a student loan. So, whatever Islam says about it, I've been forced to go into debt (which I'll have to pay back with interest, which granted is lower than the normal rate, but is interest nonetheless). Nothing much I can do bout it.

I agree wit what most of u r saying. I don't know why ppl nowadays marry within their clan/subclan either. My Qabiil is important to me so far as it's my identity. But that's about it. Tribal issues have never really influenced any of my decisions. So I guess, like Ameenah, I'll marry whichever cute faarax I fall in love wit no matter what his tribe.

Actually, I was quite surprised at the amount of Somalis who attended. Especially at the number of non-dhalinyaro women who took part. Very gratifying. I'm not sure how successful it was tho. Blair isn't remotely interested in anything his constituents say. The war-drums are getting ever louder and nothing is likely to change about the Palestinian situation. So, was it worth it? YES, YES and YES. It felt absolutely fabulous to see that I wasn't the only one who felt angry, frustrated, helpless and totally hopeless about the current situation.
