  1. I happen to wear one for comfort and because I love the colours - not your run-of-the-mill macawiis tones and design... it's quite lovely, particularly high quality material. I wear this in the comfort of my own home, and wrap it how the guys might wrap it... tying a knot in order to feminise it would look silly and defeat the novelty aspect of why I'm wearing it, so I don't bother and do it in a sufficiently masculine manner... Anyway, my grandmother and great grandmother invited me to visit them over an extended period... so I brought along my favoured guri-kujoog, na'mean. I was met with mortified expressions! Yet, being the classy well-mannered ladies the nanas are, they didn't say anything to criticise it... I did however note that whenever male family members came over, nan insisted on letting them in herself and immediately giving me some minor chore to do - clearly intended to get me out the way - oh the calamity of a woman wearing macawiis, don't you know! Personally I couldn't give a flying toss what anyone might think, but I do indulge the nanas in their old ways and ideas about decorum, and stayed out of the way like they wanted... Is there anything really so bizarre in a lady wearing macawiis, 'cos she likes the colours and comfort... and isn't afraid of doing things out of the norm to please herself... ??? Do any other women here own one? Would you admit to it in public if you did?
  2. ^ I shall lurk, like you used to do, but my posting average shall probably continue to remain very low (to the relief of many of the old garde posters I think *chuckle* )... I lead a far quieter existence than I used to, despite all this talk of nightclubs. I listen to Bobby and Nihal on Radio One midweek playing the latest desi tracks... and they are always going on about how absolutely advanced the upmarket clubs in Mumbai and Delhi are, so I simply had to ask about it. Gosh, I love them, never miss a single solitary programme of theirs. Have you stubled across any of their sessions...? I spent a month in Kenya last year, and I swear I must have whiled away all my hours glued to the hundreds of Indian channels they have on sky, and admiring the sari shops the few times I went into central Nairobi... suffice to say, the Indian element was the only thing I enjoyed about Nairobi, that was really kewl. I would be far happier living in Southall really...
  3. ^ I would love to see your archives about India. I want to see them right now in fact! Do you have a blog... Did you go to any of the nightclubs and mingle with the young people and students in the evenings? I've heard they have kickass clubs playing things like Indian influenced speed-garage! Oh, and which country are you doing now? ...You remember me? How kool is that! Did you post under a different handle back when I used to frequent this joint? I think you must have... *scratches head*
  4. What an absolutely delightful topic sheherazade... this is one of the loveliest things I've read on this site... it is my dream to visit India one day... and you have drawn such a vivid pic of it for me, I could almost smell the curry... heh heh Please do go on posting what else you experienced in your travels... please!
  5. ^ Crikey! What a blindingly good list!
  6. Complete and utter subserviance, gets me everytime.
  7. Is this topic on the level? God save us.
  8. I was nine. My primary school teacher. It was innocent, but ah, the intensity of devotion when you're just a little whippersnapper.
  9. The ones I have met have invariably exceeded my expectations.

Dude, I wanna see it again!!!
  11. Sometimes I wish I'd grown up in the U.S education system. It seems far superior in terms of sports opportunities for women. Education institution sports programmes here are a joke.
  12. I've found the majority of Somali men would prefer you to be shorter rather than eclipse them in any way. That's just my own personal experience. I've met midgets that are larger than life and don't want for attention. I've seen bean-poles that you'd never notice were there. It's about personality and how you conduct yourself. The great thing is, those are things within your control. Aren't there enough things to trouble your days other than those you can't change? Me, I'm very strange, I actually prefer guys that are my own height. If they're smaller, I don't even notice let alone mind. Seems to bother a fair few though.
  13. Juxa, good to 'see' you too sweetcakes. As to my appearances, I am naturally revered (or should that be reviled) across nations m'dear.
  14. I've been kicking around here for at least two years now. I remember people like Og_Girl joining as newbies. I suppose I might be counted as a member of the old-garde. The length of my stay and my post-count are something of a dubious honour. I should be out making myself useful in the sunshine enjoying the summer... Then again, I was never known for adherring to normal sensible behaviours... I don't recall seeing your posts FistLady, looks like you went under a different handle... who were you?
  15. ^ *High-fives L-S* I had no one to tease anymore. I missed you guys! How ya' been? Happy and healthy I hope...
  16. God save us from bitter, on the shelf, spinster-dudes.

I can't believe I haven't seen Pirates of the Caribbean, if it's as stylish as you describe, it's going on my to do list.
  18. That's my Juxa! Lingering dhareer... hmm. Xalwad flavour too. Very sweet. You made the right choice with me, officer Sun would have taken you to McDonalds.
  19. Juxa, how fickle you are! I see I've been thrown over for another piece. I myself never forgot you... As to dating... *spits* Very nasty, vulgar business.
  20. I didn't realise Italians were so racist (the ones I've met in this country have been majorly open-minded and friendly, but I suppose football suppporters are a breed of their own). They sound far more backward then the english. I can't even begin to count how many black players there have been on the English international squad.
  21. I'm too much of a wus to risk head injuries and such, but for those women who want to do it, all power to them. It's a free world.
  22. By most traditional Somali standards, I'm now a full-fledged heathen. Marvellous .
  23. I don't need to take the test. It is my firm believe that ALL men are evil an should be executed at birth.
  24. The Rock's chick, I can't believe you!
  25. Libaax, it was absolutely unforgiveable of Barwaaqo to tell you of my evil online identity before I had the pleasure of doing so myself. Ilaa hada doofarada yar xaal baan ka sugayaa! I liked Libaax instantly. Classy demeanor he has. Rookie I'd like to give a kiss on the cheek for being the complete gentleman. He was no Rookie. I'd also like to apologise if my companions and I ruined your "equipment", the bariis you know Juxa, you are too kind sweetie. I in turn was utterly blown away by the blistering intellect of this girl. Dawaco, another Juxa in the making. I distictly saw her put one or two esteemed posters firmly in their place. Ouch. Watch out for this one. Shaqsii, the man to my right. Couldn't have asked for a better seating position. Someone who undertood my skewed sense of humour! What more could a girl ask for. Sophist, our English gentleman. This man is delightful. A very very unique individual. No other entertainment required. Shujui-1, now this guy surprised me! I expected a vicious old coot of a geezer, and discovered a sweet young man in his place. That was meant as the best of compliments btw. He was kind enough to dismiss my slight er *lapses* with him on the forums, I had no choice but to like him. Jamaal, beautiful manners, came all the way across the table to greet the girlie end of the table. The rumours about the Wadaad's (aka Mujahid) looks are true... Muraad, the mystery man of the evening. Hardly saw hide or hair of him.
