Rabbi ha u naxariisto marxuumka ehelkiisana samir iyo imaan ha siiyo. I believe in the last decade or so the authorities in Somaliland lost the plot and were misguided to believe that they can police people's thoughts and beliefs. Somaliland does not exist by the will of a dictatorship but by the conviction of its people. Instead of trying to control the public opinion the government should do what they were elected to do in an honest and transparent fashion. No one will go against a government which is corruption- free and serves public interest but unfortunately we never had such a government in Somaliland.
-
This only proofs that all the successive governments in Somaliland never had the economic development of the country as a top priority. During Silaanyo's term Dahabshiil wanted to rebuild it but a certain clan in Saaxil came out in force and stopped it!! I don't blame the clan at all as there is a lot of rivalry and suspicion amongst our people but the Silaanyo's government and those before him should have developed a national investment bank where any investor in the country could deposit funds and buy shares in any publicly owned business enterprise in Somaliland. That way we could have had not only the cement factory rebuild but also developed many other industries including power production, steel, mining, agriculture, fisheries, consumer goods, etc, growing the economy and reducing unemployment in the process.

This is such an irresponsible thing for the president of the county to do. We are in the middle of a dangerous pandemic yet this man is encouraging the ignorant people to disregard their own safety and clap for him crowded tightly in their thousands. It means all the measures they put in place to control the disease including the closure of schools and mosques are less important than "the parade of the president". No wonder why Somaliland is now epicenter of pandemic in the Somali peninsula.
-
Still no development of the Berbera cement plant? As there is no shortage of funds in the country to build that factory, the ridiculous clan rivalry is in the way I guess.

Yeah the politics section became like that one tea shop in an abandoned village where travellers stop by now and then to catch a breath and get a word or two about the happenings of life. Without it SOL would be like those excavation sites which once upon a time used to be busy towns.

Is he really dead? This is disturbing and will forever paint Puntland in Nazi colours.

Alle ha u naxariisto marxuumka. The racist and hateful comments in her twitter page is so unbearable though.

Hi Femme, welcome back to SOL. 2007 to 2013 is like the bronze age in SOL's calendar so unfortunately all but one of the characters you have mentioned are resting in peace in this forum's virtual cemetery. The exception is MMA who refused to go away like a bad spirit and continues to haunt us day and night. Oh and there is another ancient still here called Che. He too is from that era but we have managed to mummify him and he is on display now and then

America is fast becoming a lawless chaotic place where the most important commodity is a gun and a hand grenade. I hope Mr Che upgraded his defence department collection with some serious toys Here in Britain where the law enforcement agencies are very civilised and impartial, some black thugs are causing social disorder and looking for opportunities to loot businesses in the name of a man who was killed in a different country. They have no regard for the disease control measures the country is advised to follow and no respect for the unarmed police officers who are on the streets to protect the public. No wonder why the black people are despised everywhere. One can't help but wonder what makes the black people disproportionately more susceptible to criminal activities and all kinds of stupid behaviour. I am indeed very disappointed with the black people given their painful history. Of all people in the world, the blacks should have been those with most respect for law and order, peace and justice, and social progress.

Maashaallah Qardho police have done well to stop this kind of immorality but the officers should have acted more professionally and not like amateur YouTubers.

They are building just the satellite but they haven't got the technical capability to put them in space. Pakistan has been building its own satellites for years and one step ahead of them is India which not only manufactures satellites but launches them as well. The Indians do things very economically indeed. They put a probe in an orbit around Mars for just $50 million

Caabudwaaq probably was a place of pilgrimage for the ancient Somalis. I like the fact that our people were always monotheists and as a result when Islam came to us we adopted it so easily - Waaq was now called Allah and He had a message for us. The crow is given a good reputation in Qur'an as the bird sent by Allah to show Adam's criminal son who murdered his righteous brother out of jealousy how to bury his dead brother's corpse.

Micno or macno This is another example of the local variation. -
Actually I am very suspicious of the quality of the medical equipment given to Somaliland and other African States. We don't have the expertise to test the effectiveness of these materials to prevent infection. The government should not rely on these donated materials and instead do more to prevent people to gather in crowds. Social distancing and isolating of the sick is the only option we have to fight this virus. Dadka waa in lagu dhaho afka ku duubta cumaamadihiina iyo shalmadihiina.

Our minister of agriculture is a national hero. He really works hard to make a difference to people's lives.

What Siyaad was doing was robbing a lot of property from one clan and giving it to his. The SL police are confiscating contraband good from smugglers and putting it to general use. Even members of Siyaad's clan living in Somaliland are benefiting from the confiscated goods.

Why are people spreading rumours about this useful hospital? Ilaahay ha caafiyo dadka ku jira.

I am actually delighted about how the HAG folks have managed to rebuild and continue to rebuild their metropolis given the very difficult security situation. May their patience and strength grow with time. Now tell us about the Xabashi colony you call home? Or should I actually call Addis Ababa to get any information about that sorry place of yours?

The ambassador is just an employee who will speak whatever the state department of the day tells him to. He hasn't changed Somaliland's course in all those years he has been working in the region and there is no obvious reason he can do anything to alter that course now. Unlike the political shenanigans in Villa AMISOM and their poor project in koonfuria, Somaliland doesn't exist or cease to exist based solely on the signatures and words of their foreign masters.

Have you actually watched the video before posting it? It is clearly an amateur film made by those cheeky guys. That said, the terrible state of Hargeisa's infrastructure and the total lack of basic hygiene is not hidden from anyone who visits the city. You don't even have to go to the poorer neighbourhoods to be confronted by rivers of garbage as the British-built drainage system near the presidential compound which is part of the only drainage system ever built in Somaliland till this day is clogged with all kinds of trash. This state of affairs is really difficult to tolerate given the mill of dollars the city council collects ever year from the residents.

As I said all the Somali words you keep mentioning are still very much in our vocabulary, I use them and everyone I know uses them although the use of foreign loan words is increasingly becoming normalised and many such foreign words have replaced Somali words in day to day conversations. There are however some words that have become more specialised and therefore lost their original meaning. For instance, the word cusbo is now exclusively used for the large salt crystals which is not suitable for cooking but used for other purposes. And the word bur is now the name for a type of fried snack usually eaten for affur during Ramadan. Many years ago when I was a teenager, I had a heated argument with a Cumaani carab guy in the presence of my now deceased cousin and in anger decided to use "my mother tongue" to swear at him so I used a word like dayuus or something similar which I can't remember. But alas the Arab guy understood what until then I thought was exclusive to us and so landed myself in hot water
