  1. i am not here to defend the term abiid, and i am sure those who are using that term to describe a black person would not like themselves to be called "sand N" here in america, and funny thing is more than 50% of gulf people could pass as blacks in usa, anyway those somalis who said that we(somalis)do not use those terms to describe someone with nappy hair and wide nose, you are either very innocent and never lived in somalia,or you're trying to deny the facts. just talk to any bantu-somali to find out how these people are humiliated just because they happen to have different hair texture. this woman was tellin me when they first settled in small village near the border of kenya she said every single time that she or her kids go outside people will shout at them from the coffee shops yelling look at the ADOONS, and how their hair looks like. i am not saying we should accept people calling names at us or anyone else, but i donot think we should dedicate a whole topic, atleast not as long as we are guilty of the same crime. you cannot be criminal and judge another criminal.
  2. ducaqabe if you read surat al-ahzab,the verse that requires women to wear hijab Allah(scw)gave the reason why women should wear hijab is that so non-muslims and hypocrites will know that they are muslim so they would not harras them. the sheikh did not twist the words. its amazing how people attack this sheikh accusing all the sorts of things, even someone went as far as saying he does not have a faith, i wonder how the know that, did they opened his heart etc. i for one agree with the sheikh if someone is afraid for their lives then its is irresponsible to be asked that person to risk their lives, so he makes a lot sense to me.
  3. what did you say emmigrate, do not we all wish if it was that simple,i am sure if we have another place to go we would not be here. i do not how unsafe england is after the attacks, and i am not scholar to say it is right or wrong, but i know one thing for sure that men(muslim men) can never, will never understand how hard it is to wear hijab in western society these days. it is funny how majority of muslim men try to assimilate into western society such as wearing knee length shorts, and latest fashion clothes. i will advise all men to try to be a visible muslim for one week: grow your beard as long as possible, wear khamis, take a copy of the qur'an read it on the train, where everyone on the train can see what you reading and see how you take unwanted attention, glances, and sometimes verbal abuses.
  4. isn't it permissible to ask someone who is alive and that you believe they are more religious than you to pray for you? such as uways from yemen whom even omar (ra) asked him to ask forgiveness for him.
  5. Originally posted by Athena: Secondly, as for those hesitant in condemning the London bombings and camouflaging their real opinions with subtle words like ‘frown upon’ – be true and say what it is you want to say. ‘Frowning upon something’ means disliking it YET finding it ACCEPTABLE. These cowardly acts against the civilian population of London are UNACCEPTABLE and should be CONDEMNED. Being concerned about a backlash against Muslims alone is selfish and shows the divided mentality in addressing this issue. Seems to me like we are willing to tolerate it as long as it causes us no harm. We(Muslims and non-muslims alike) should stand united and strong against terrorism. as someone who lived through 9/11, i really can say i know what it means to face the hatred and suspecious looks from your neighbors,at your local super market, and from your coworkers,so if you've being there and seen it you would not accuse us for being selfish, because we are concerned about the backlash. when things like this happens muslims share anxiety, shock, and confussion with everyone else;but also everyone else will blame them for what happened eventhough they're victims like everyone else,so any muslim who believes what officials say,or not afraid or concerned about backlash they are either fooling themselves or they live fantasy world.

ya Allah,i am so shocked to hear about diamente, may allah gave her speed recovery, and plaese those of you who know, could you please call her family, and keep us updated.
  7. the correct way to say it will be what is wrong with 'some' muslims. islam is perfect, but if there is some individuals who want to misuse it,then there is nothing we can do. i do not understand why some muslims feel like they have to apologize for this crime, we did not let them do anything, they did it on their own, they did not ask us permission to do it,and if you mean speaking against it, scholars do it all the time, but they chose not to listen. why when oklahama was bombed methodists did not come out to apologize, because at the beginning they treated as a criminal act that had nothing to do with religion. i am sorry but i am not responsible what 1.5 billion muslims do, i am only responsible what i do, and i hope muslims will feel the same,if not then you will have to keep apologizing every single day for some barbaric crimes committed by some muslims since i do not think they will stop any time soon.
  8. i am glad everyone is ok,but what i am worried is how is it going to affect muslims in UK, and western world in general, nothing worse than the backlash, those of you who wear hijab be extra careful everyone will look at you like potential enemy, already in US there are extra security, life was getting better for muslims here and they had to go and do this  , i hope whoever that sick individuals are, they're not muslims. i do not know how anyone can justify killing innocent people in the name of islam.

Smilez, i consider all somalis to be dark even so called light skinned ones. plus since when did we(somalis) cared about skin tone
  10. i really did not want to reply to this topic, but i get the sense that you believe lighter=beauty, therefore you are suffering from inferiority complex as well. what do you mean those 'dark' girls can not 'stick their noses up to the air'? just because they are dark, do you think they should believe they are less beautiful than you? and having dark children, excuse me are we talking about somali kids or some other nationality, cause last time i checked all somalis were having dark children unless they were mixed? finally ask yourself are you really concerned about those girls and their self esteem,or you are concerned that you are no longer the only 'light skinned'girl at the weddings?
  11. i just have one question, will we ever ever stop talking about arabs  ,some people have saar called arab. there are many more important topics that we can talk about, yet some people are obsessed with crimes that are committed by arabs. most people in the third world have inferiority complex and will worship anything that is white and arabs are not different. end of the story.
  12. Originally posted by Zulfa: mmm, Somali Women are not allowed to drive = True there was never a law in somalia banning women to drive, in somalia women did actually and still do drive cars. so i do not know where you get the information that somali women are not allowed to drive. about oparah almost every newspaper in western highlight those things, and muslims are not helping to correct it. as long as muslims do not want to face their short comings nothing will ever change. i do not understand why on earth do we act as we are perfect society. muslims do abuse their women, islam gave women their rights but muslims took away those rights. some muslim countries women lose the custody of their sons as soon as they turn 7. by law some muslim countries man can force his wife to live with him and if she leaves him, he can get a court order and police will bring her back by force to her husband's house. some muslim countries women are not allowed to vote, and god forbid if she ever decides to get a divorce her case can be in court average 7 years while her husband marries and enjoys his life, and let's not even talk about honor killing and forced marriages. so all these things are not western propoganda but reality in many muslim countries, and how can we change those things if we do not want to acknowlege their existence. finally muslim culture and islam are two different things, and that's what i tell non-muslims.

Waa lagu digtaa ruux haduu kuu darnaan jire BAL DAYAAY WADAADKI WAKAA SII DABAYSHADEE just for the correction, gabayga waxaa tiriyey cali-dhuux(sayid's long time enemy), ismail mire never defected. while i do not agree many things that sayid did, such as killing innocent people because their clan did not support darawish, yet he can not be compared to those who accepted to be slaved by europeans/ethiopians. he had noble cause and only someone who has other hidden agenda will deny his effort to liberate somalis.
  14. ^^^^ there is no need to pick the answer out of the context, i am sure qardawi is more knowledgable than all of us, and he had his evidence when he said it, but in order to understand it, you need to hear what question was he asked. the question about muslims and non-muslims i listened to him and he uses surat al-mumtahinah where Allah says that he doesn't forbid muslims to be kind and just to non-muslims who did not fight with them.so as i said he had his evidence. you do not agree with him fine, but be fair and cut and paste the whole thing not just few lines.
  15. i have no problem with non-somalis among us, i do visit other forums, and i do direct my friends to this website(the ones who are very interested in somalia) i believe diversity will give us more view points. and its really interesting to visit other non-somali sites. so all nationalities welcome to SOL.
  16. i did not see that article; however 3 topics were deleted in last week only, and none of them contained any blasphemous, except someone was questioning about islam,i do not see what's wrong with people asking questions,or posting what non-muslims are saying about islam,in my opinion if we post these questions then as muslims we can discuss and explain to thousands who read that article and did not get or have a chance to hear muslim side of the story. it is really sad that some people believe that solution is deleting topics.

You first used "judge" and you seem to say now that you meant "judgmental" which is fine with me. I am impressed with your knowledge of the Bible! Why did you say “Please provide the evidence in the Quran Are you Qur’ani? Don’t you believe in the Sunnah as well? One evidence: In Islam, if a woman commits adultery her punishment is LIFE BEHIND BARS: “Those who commit adultery among your women, you must have four witnesses against them, from among you. If they do bear witness, then you shall keep such women in their homes until they die†Sura 4:15a. According to you, does this involve judgment? The Muslim witnesses must certainly say “you have committed adultery†and another Muslim must say what the judgment is—life behind bars! That is how the woman is sentenced! Brother Warsameh warsameh its clear to me that you do not really know much about the quran. this ayah is annuled by another verse in surat nur, and the punishment of both men and women is 100 lahses if they never married. and the requirement is 4 trustable people have to see exactly the action taking place. Hadaad walaal is used for both men and women.
  18. rayaana i am really disappointed, especially that you wear the 'religious coat',and tell people all the time to fear Allah. do not generalize entire race in one category, you do not know all indians and arabs( more than half of muslim population) have you ever seen any arab/indian racist? have you ever seen them using those words towards muslims? i lived in an arab country and never in any way any form of racism based on my color was directed towards me, for you to call entire race as uncivillized is pure ignorance.i am not saying there is no racist arabs/indian, because i am sure there are some,as there is somali racist( imagine bringing home nigerian/ white muslim? how would your parents react to it)the best muslim people that i met were indians/pakistanis, and nigerians. being said that. i would not advice any somali to marry another race, marriage is more than love and two people,it's about two families, culture and language. while i wish somalis will not inter-marry other races, at the end of the day its personal choice,as long as your family is happy with it too, but no one will understand you better than your own.
  19. rahima you did not answer my question sis, you said music is haram, some scholars say its haram such as those you mantioned, but i listened to qardawi, and he is equally respected knowledgable scholar just like them, and he says singing is not haram, but the content can make it haram, his argument is very convincing. he could be wrong or right i am not here to argue music is halal or haram, but my question is at the time of the prophet was there piano, guitar and other instruments that are used now a days? if so, is there clear hadith where the prophet prohibited muslims to use it? is there a hadith where prophet(PPUH) said you can use only daf?
  20. i do not want to start war here, and i do not like to be labeled as i believe muslim is enough; however zakina, you are mixing things up here, those who do not celebrate birthday of the prophet, do not celebrate any other day except the two eids. so where on earth did you get they celebrate saudi day, did you see saudi scholars celebrating saudi day?.
  21. salaam salafi you're out of line here, there is no need to discredit the brother like that, if you've something against him say he said so ,so and that's wrong and here is the evidence, but you're doubting his believe, did you open his heart to know that he was not sincere in his believe, how do you know he is using islam for personal gains? i am sure he knows islam more than you,and presented islam in positive light more than other scholars, while i do not agree some of what he says. this is not first time that i have seen you accusing other scholars who do not agree with you, campanion of the prophet(PPUH) disagreed on many things but they remained brothers/sisters. i really do think that islamic issues should be left only scholars to discuss not those who memorized one or two hadiths
  22. rahima sis it is not only him a lot of other scholars say that music is not haram as long as it does not encourage evil, such as great scholar qardawi and others, so i think music issue is not agreed to be haram. i always wanted to know was there a piano and other instruments that are used now,at the time of the prophet(PPUH) and what is the difference between piano and daf.?
  23. sudanes it seems to me from your posts that you've problems with 'jareer', however whether you like it or not there is no difference between somalis and those you label them as jareer to most of the world's population they do look the same (there are also somalis who refer to themselves as jareer). it seems to me you've inferiority complex, just because you claim to have arab blood, you think you're better than them, what makes arabs better than bantu? to me nigerians are closer to somalis than syrians because they (somalis and Nigerians)share color, continent and sometimes religion also maybe those you know think/believe they are arab, but also there are large segment of somali population(including me ) who believe that we do not share arabs anything except the religion. FYI somalia joined arab league because they wanted money, and arabs accepted them because they needed their vote in the UN. to be arab you have to speak arabic regardless of your color,or features. there are arabs who look like they are from angola and there are arabs who look like they are white. whether you belong to prophet's race or not is irrelevent, abu-lahab was his uncle, and that did not save him from going to hell.

  25. i bet somalis are the only people in the world who have identity crisis. somalis are not more arab than pakistani or indian,we do not speak arabic hence we are not arabs, why can not some people be happy what they are. you do not see ethiopians asking these kind of questions even though we exactly look the same.
