  1. I think it was stopover. There's a vast coastline that's under no one's jurisdiction.

  4. This dude is the quintessential example of what's wrong with "Somali" leaders. He was a presidential candidate, a rebel and loyal secessionist.
  5. Here's wiki version https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sultanate_of_the_Geledi
  6. The Geledi was the successor to the Ajuran Empire. It was established by Ibrahim Adeer who defeated the declining Ajuran . It lasted 150 years. There are many notable things about them, but the two I found the most interesting are: They made Omanis pay tributes and they kept the Oromo at bay. Originally, it was the Ajuran who defeated the great Oromo invasion of Southern Somalia. Unfortunately, I haven't found many writings about the Geledi aka Gobroon. The Geledi were eventually defeated by the B!yamal.
  7. We, Somalis, have the unfortunate destiny of never claiming our true history. We rather read what others wrote about us Ajuran along with Geledi Sultanate were two interesting Somali political entities.
  8. I always thought these were sexually frustrated sickos. Al-Shabab practices a benign version or maybe not so benign version, forced "marriages".
  9. Sanaag needs roads and perhaps an airport. In terms of commercial ports, Berbera and Bosaso should suffice. Maydh can perhaps be developed fishing port.
  10. @xabad said: Why this poem, Che ! I just saw this, that was quick reply hehe.
  11. The age of reason within Islam was interesting period. Al-Maari was rationalist and a great poet. Xabad, I recommend you read this: https://muse.jhu.edu/books/9780814768969 Considered a percusor's Dante's Divine Comedy.
  12. A poem by Al-Maari: Faith, disbelief, rumors spread, Koran, Torah, Gospels Prescribe their laws… Lies at every generation That one hastens to believe and record. Will a generation distinguish itself, one day, By pursuing the truth? There are two types of people on Earth: Those who have reason without religion, And those who have religion but lack reason. Those men are rushing towards decomposition, All religions are equally strayed. If one asks me, what is my doctrine, It is clear: Am I not, like others, An imbecile?
  13. It's alright blue :-) One thing that I thought me is redefining the meaning of success.
  14. Dead serious! How are these Somali herders different from Oromo economic migrants who settled in Hargeysa and Bosaso,
  15. Ninyahow, Riyale was referee for habra. Somaliland needs someone who is not from reer Issak hehe.
  16. ^Who hasn't invaded who? This hardly qualifies as invasion. I don't see you condemning the Oromo "invasion" of Diridhaba or soon Jigjiga, and their unchecked migration to Somali lands? Their entire human experience is based on invasion and mass displacement driven by search for resources. Ever heard the great Bantu expansion?
  17. Despite my opposition for Somaliland's secession, I always hoped that they would setup a system of governance that encourages economic development, social mobility and civic involvement, a system that discourages tribal tendency and calls for loyalty to the nation and state. Sadly, that's not the case today. And the politics seemed to have corrupted traditional leaders who align themselves with politicians, politicians who want the traditional leaders to deliver votes from their respective clans. All you hear is reer hebel kalsoonida ay kala laabteen Kulmiye, Wadani or UCID.
  18. I graduated from collage when the economy was going down the drain, to make a living I started driving limos. Most of the people that I picked were wealthy and uber-wealthy. For some reason, many of them would start a conversation. These people were rich but miserable, consumed by their job, always travelling and living in big houses that they never spent much time in, not to mention having kids that they hardly interact with and whose affection they buy with materials. I started assuming those that did not talk to me were the happy ones hehe. I also realized the more money you make, the more chunk you collect and the more you work is just to keep with your spending. I don't know about Europe, but in America, the system is setup in such a way that you work just to pay bills. Your time is spent living in the office, stuck in traffic, etc. You hardly get time for yourself and others. I come to appreciate simple pleasures of life. What's the topic about? Hehe. Hello Blue!
  19. This is not self critique, it is outright insult. "Xoolo daqato esp Geeljire are absolute scum who create nothing, parasites who roam aimlessly, encroaching on the people’s lands leading to conflicts and insecurity. They create nothing of value only destroy the vitality of the land." Your words! You can't condemn (or in this case insult) people for a lifestyle that they simply inherited. Somali expansionism in the Horn was in part driven by searching for resources, those herders are in search of the same resources, A search for resources and the protection of their only valuable possession is a matter of survival. Is their way of living outdated, indeed, it is.
  20. Somali leaders in the West have to work within a system that demands accountability and shuns blind loyalty. Somalia needs a transformational leader that could not only set up such system but also change people's thinking in terms of their leadership choice.
  21. Young men are killed while murderous bast@rds like Atom, Xasan Dahir, Zakaria Hersi, and others are given a pass. Either make example out of everyone or spare these poor kids' lives. And whatever happened to him? And remeber Kilwe who was released from prison just to join Alshabab again, waa sheeko waxa meesha ka socda, only this story has a tragic ending and the victims are the Somali people.
