  1. I go to Hargeisa every year and khat consumption is rampant. The trend might be going down now thanks to the relentless dacwa work of the religious community but addiction to that expensive drug is still a major economic, social, and public health problem. If people stop consuming it or the locals produced it in Somaliland, the money saved would have transformed the country beyond recognition. One thing which impressed me though is the very low consumption of cigarettes. A very small percentage of the public are smokers.
  2. The only thing which changed after all those decades is the technology, from black and white photography to the digital. Other than that, the Hargeisa airport is a sad reflection of Somaliland's stagnation and the serious lack of vision and competence of its successive leadership. By comparison, in the same period, the world changed beyond recognition. Economic and military super powers emerged and now those who succeeded are planning for their next phase of progress by setting their sights on Mars and beyond.
  3. His endless travels would be comical if his people weren't starving in their millions. This guy is a walking tragedy.
  4. We need a steel plant too for developing our infrastructure.
  5. Aaskii boqoradda ayaa isna soo dhaw. Waa khasab inuu ka qayb qaato.
  6. Somaliland oo dhan ayaa siyaasadda ku fashilantay. Sodon sanno ayay wali ku hashiin la yihiin doorasho.
  7. Haddii uu Farmaajo tagay rajadaadii ma intaas ay ku eegtahay.
  8. The BBC Somali service became too of a walawayn service so something had to be done.
  9. Waar Carafaat axmaqsanidaa, maxaad ninka sidaa ugu gashay?
  10. It looks like the market was set alight intentionally in order to clear it out for this kind of development. I mean who wants endless negotiations with the land owners of Waaheen and their thousands of tenants.
  11. The expulsion of innocent civilians from their homes was just an evil excuse to cover up the government's failure to secure Laascaanood. The killings are politically motivated and requires professional and wide ranging investigations. Laascaanood needs to be filled with soldiers, intelligence agents, smart CCTVs with night vision capabilities. Also all the suspect homes should be searched without notice, their telephone conversation listened to by spies, and interrogated by competent (and intimidating) professionals.
  12. The miserable days of the three dinosaur fossils pretending to be more useful than Hargeisa's trash is fast coming to an end. Laydh caafimaad ayaa Hargaysa ku soo dhacday.
  13. So you think that "setting up a federal state" anywhere you fancy is like setting up a teashop? The Maakhiri clan don't need to start a futile project from scratch which will only waste their time and resources. Instead they can get a lot more from Somaliland just by forming alliances with the other clans in Sanaag and demanding their share.
  14. Saaxiib you are deluded. This is just one more reason Somaliland should do absolutely anything to dissociate itself from that failed entity.
  15. Che you have underestimated the power and influence England would still have as an independent country if the United Kingdom breaks up. If you take a look at England's share of the population and GDP of the UK, not much will really change for England in a break up scenario. However, the same cannot be said for Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. The economies of these smaller nations depends entirely on that of England.
  16. Waar gooni Ramadan Kariim. Arrintan aad sheegtay runta kama foga laakiin sida suuqa deg deg loogu baneeyo waxa ka fududaan lahayd in shacabka lugu dhaho Farmaajo ayaa madaarka Hargaysa kasoo degaya. Wax alaala wixii kab dacas ah iyo mafiiq taalay waa la boobi lahaa oo madaarka ayaa loola yaaci lahaa.
  17. Waar Xaaji, I thought Somaliland's sovereignty was based on the will of the people of Somaliland. If that is still the case then there is no need for hostility towards our brethren in koonfuria. Yes their politics is despicable and you can call them out for that anytime but remember that the only thing distinguishing the people you called doofaar from those in Hargeisa are the artificial borders we chose to mark and guard. In other words, if the Koonfurians are doofaar then the Hargeisans aren't daahir either. There are neither angels nor devils on either side of the border but just Somalis with different politics and political aspirations. President Muuse can talk to president Farmaajo on the phone any day or meet him in person somewhere and such connections will not harm Somaliland's political agenda if it is based on the will of the people.
  18. Che thiz tragedy was very predictable. Hargeisa is a city of drug addicts where officially the only vehicles allowed to move at excessive speeds with no regard for public safety are the narcotics delivery vehicles. Even ambulances carrying dying people get stuck in the chaotic streets and no one cares.
  19. Waaryaa Che have you nominated yourself to become SOL's war correspondent? The Western leaders are yelling about this invasion of Ukraine as if their own near past is clean of any sin. They should be gently reminded that it was not long ago when they invaded and destroyed Iraq- a sovereign nation and a UN member state. Russia protested that unprovoked Western aggressions at the UN Security Council but no one heeded their outcry.
  20. And who will give such an opportunity to the thousands of young jobless graduates from Somalia's universities?
  21. A collapsed Ethiopia is in no one's interest. Somaliland and Puntland can hardly deal with the hundreds of thousands of Oromo migrants currently in their territories so if Ethiopia collapses due to a full blown civil war and millions cross the border, we are finished.
  22. Aren't the Somalis organising and arming themselves or are they oblivious to the dangers around them?
  23. Is it the Ugandan military or the administration in Xamar who is carrying out the sentence? Normally foreign soldiers are persecuted by their own military tribunals in their own countries.
