Alpha Blondy;974123 wrote: the arts should be accessible to all not just a few expats, NGO workers and elite Qurbo-joogians. Somaliland literature has for far too long been championed by Qurbo-Joogian apologists, whose chronic paternalism has not only completely alienated readers but neutered and emasculated Somaliland based authors. HIBF works with a patronising ‘internationalist’ foggy tokenism, promoting international authors or Qurbo-Joogian authors, whose musings and civilising mission undertones lack context or indeed relevance to the realities on the ground, to the detriment of Somaliland based authors. conscious cultural critics like myself value grass-roots, organically inspired cultural products, products grounded in real life experiences and not some pre-judged culturally distant stereotype informed by the overarching Qurbo-Joogian romanticist mindset. this mindset not only hijacks Somaliland cultural and literary products for its own ends but more significantly constructs a condescending, cultural straight jacket and stereotypical concoctions to self-aggrandising audiences. this dominant milieu or the prevailing Qurbo-Joogian romanticist mindset is the dominant ideology that inhibits Somaliland-based literature from the mainstream, at least here in the nation's capital. what i'm proposing here, in my capacity as a conscious cultural critic, is a 'back to basics' approach, bringing alternative and seldom documented experiences into the cultural mainstream; with the intention of shining a light with the aim of uncovering, and authentically documenting, hard to reach cultures and sub-cultures that exist in the Somali-speaking world and in particular Somaliland. these voices should be organically sourced from their own communities (instead of being white, English speaking, off a Qurbo-Joogian romanticist mindset), given the tools and the encouragement to write books based on their experiences and values rather than having a romanticist Qurbo-Joogian ethno-centric culturally biased world-view forced upon them. the most important point is to realise that this romanticist Qurbo-Joogian ethno-centric culturally abusive milieu is the number one impediment to Somaliland authors and readers alike. Alpha the cultural historian, the social activist, literary critic, travel writer, photographer, weather forecaster, public educator, cultural custodian, news analyst, stand up comedian, female hospitality specialist, all in all pseudo-intellectual, leave HIPF alone

We're ranked 1st for enforcing contracts, 3rd for dealing with construction permits and ranked 4th for the overall ease of doing business out of 13 cities beating cities such as Nairobi, Narok and Kisumu. Not bad I say  Well if each state in Kenya can make their own laws and regulations then the NFD should get rid of all the red tape to attract investment.

The sole agenda of the SNM was to overthrow the kacaan government of Siyaad Barre and restore democratic rule for the former Somali republic. The SNM leadership and politicians like Abdul Rahman Tuur (Alle ha u naxariisto) wanted and were preparing to go to the South and hold talks with the rebel movements there like the USP and SPM. However, it was the ordinary man and woman who were returning from the refugee camps in Ethiopia who had decided business with the South was truly over and that no one would go to Mogadishu and represent them. So the former Somali Republic was buried there and then by the returning refugees;)

Wiil Cusub;974002 wrote: yes i don't have any emotional binding with orthodox church in England You are missing the point saaxiib. It is not about the church or religion but the audacity, determination, ingenuity, and the amazing work ethics of a Spanish guy which contrasts so embarrassingly with our useless society. Where as Mr Gusto Gallego (yes my hero) built a giant cathedral with his bare hands, the entire government of Somaliland had to kneel down and beg foreigners to help them build a hut the completion of which they are celebrating now.

What language do these ladies speak with each other when on official duties? Could it be: F: Nayaa taadan kikuyadu adeegsato, adoonta kusoo dirsatay waxaad ku tidhaahdaa Kismaayo Soomaalibaa leh ee degdeg iskaga baxa. A: It is in the interest of the Somali people and the EGAD and international community to pacify the South of Somalia and rid it of Alshabaab terrorists. So in keeping with the wishes of the international community Kenya will continue to maintain its security forces in the Jubbaland and aid the local Somalis set up a functioning and democratic administration in their region which would then be part of the federal states of Somalia according to you constitution. F: Naa maxaad isla macnaynaysaa dee soomaali igula hadal. Durbaba ma kikuyu ayaad ismooday. Naa bal tan eega wax la aragyee hahahaha. A: Excuse me?

Somaliland is getting more ridiculous by the day. They built a hut and called the president to celebrate its opening. I am sure two Polish builders can construct what we see on these pictures and much more. Even an ageing Spaniard built a better looking building single handed and with no foreign aid. Somalis are useless when it comes to work, let us be honest about it. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-12088560

malistar2012;973870 wrote: what a hate Puntland admin has for the people of Khatuum state , why are they refusing Aid that is intended for the poor and needy . To the extend that they send Farole wife who hails from SNM clans to disturb aid intended for the drought hit areas in North East of Somalia. Puntland returned the food aid to the South because that is where it is needed the most. Qoslaaye and his gang do not care even if the poor refugees in Xamar die of starvation but all they care about is vanity, publicity, useless propaganda, so Faroole had to act and help the Mogadishu refugees.

The number of ministers Somaliland has is so large that there will always be a descend of them doing nothing at any given time. So to make use of their free time to welcome visitors and tourists who land at Hargeisa airport is a reasonable thing to do:o.

What about the very rich Gulf Arabs who can easily afford to fund scientific education and research? What about the millions of Muslims in the Western world who have access to the best education and research facilities? The difference between the Chinese and the Muslims is that, the Chinese have started a serious campaign to catch up with the West in terms of scientific and technological achievement. Just within the last decade or so the number of published research and patents filed by Chinese born scholars increased many fold and is set to continue in that trajectory. Also nowadays in every top rated university or laboratory in any country you will not fail to find a Chinese scholar or student doing cutting edge science or mathematics.

The death rate among the Somalis is very high. With all the violence, infant mortality, women dying in labour, the general low standard of life of the majority of the population, and non-existent healthcare makes overall population growth very low.

Blackflash;972994 wrote: What's your point? The only group of people I've seen who can legitimately claim they were bilked out of recieving Nobel prizes are a handful of Indian scientists. You need only look at the case of the Abdus Salam to know that it isn't non-Muslims who are holding back Muslim scientists. Professor Abdus Salam deservedly won the physics prize for his discovery of the weak nuclear force but he belonged to the Ahmadiya sect which is not considered Muslim. So in fact no Muslim ever won a Nobel in the physics category:eek:

Bellow is the list of Jewish Nobel laureates. It looks like a roll call of science's greats. They constitute at least 22% of the recipients and have won in every category and in every decade since the prize's foundation one hundred years ago. And I can comfortably bet that in two months' time when the 2013 winners are announced, they will include at least three Jews. They are truly blessed with intellectual power. http://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org/jsource/Judaism/nobels.html Now let us take a look at our Muslim community;) http://www.masada2000.org/nobel.html The second link is interesting:(

Mr Dawkins has a point. Just compare the number of Jews who won this most prestigious of awards with that of the Muslim recipients. Population wise the Muslims are well over 1.5 billion strong whereas the Jews number about only 15 million or about the same size as the Somali population. Ala ceeb badanaa
