  2. Those that want to study for the single reason of finding a job should take Confucius’s advice above and become “ Welders, builders and tradesmen Waar maxaad tidhi? the building trade requires a heap of qualifictions. Is'nt an architect involved in building? What about surveyors who require knowledge of some law, some architecture, some management, some finance and some maths???
  3. There was this reer Burco guy the otherday, who said: Horta kuwiinan reer Hargeysa, meydaan xishoonayn, maxaad inanta keeshali ugu iibin weydeen. Guess what he was refering to? Hargeisa's Naasa-hablood hills. lol Lets just hope things are done right and proper, actions speaker louder than kalmadho. What are the priority subjects? Literature, ie reading/writing/pronounciation)somali/carabi/english) Health, ie looking after one's self with many diseases around. Education, ie making one determined to achieve success through some sort of system of education - probably more a govnt target.
  4. Arsenal (The Greatest English Team Ever) and team from a city named Liverpool famed by the Beatles Now i know we lpoll fans live in the past but come on now, dont compare your arsenal team to former gr8 teams when like i said before, u bukkle under the first bit of pressure. Last nites performance was more due to the pressure being off than a good arsenal team. We shall see next week when u play Bayern, the temp will be hot, lets see if the arses can handle it. I was sitting at home watching dvds mate, rather than sit in the cold with tanked up gooners shouting 'hes from senegal, he plays for arsenal, viera oh oh'i mean talk about imagination by arsenal fans
  5. lool you right burco does have especiall place in most peoples heart, it will always be our cultural capital (hidiyo dhaqan) but i was there in ramadan for the first time in ten years and alot has changed you wont see a single bud or toori and they all eat fish and salad loool, what about when your at a somali restaurant and they bring u cutlery to eat with, i'm like what is this for?
  6. I've just turned down 2 tickets for tnites game at Highbury becuz its blo*dy freezing, i'm not gonna freeze watching a bunch of pre-madonnas goes home to his warm living room
  7. ^^lol, by that time, chelski would have won the league, man utd would be 2nd, arsenal 3rd and lpool 4th, a nothing game!
  8. The kids will be teaching us a few thhings soon IA. Qudhac, there is a fund raising event for Buro Uni in London on the 26th. No doubt i shall be making a contribution
  9. L'pool V Bayer - Leg1 Bayer Win Leg2 L'pool Win - L'pool thru Thats more like it son. Berbatov is over-rated saxib, and dont come back with, you dont now how good he is because i do, Carracher can deal with him.The main threat is Franka.
  10. Its all good boys, you win some you ose some. Very dissapointed with the result/performance but the red fire still burns (slighlty) . Arsenal fans, your best bet is the FA Cup mate, good luck against Palace. In a few weeks we will see who has the last laugh!
  11. Now i dont understand how the suggestion of tribalism has come about  . Talk about reading between the lines  . Are we suggestion a north/soth devide here? The question of 'Where were in 1991 effects everybody from north to south and east to west. Have i missed somthing here or is there too many rash posts on this thread?
  12. NGONGE It will depend on each individual and what he/she sees as being offensive. The british satire ‘allo allo’ was hilarious, which was based around the world war, so is dads army (still watch the re-runs), again based on the 2nd world war. I think we there is misunderstanding here. 1) Humour ‘based’ around a war, ie Dads Army, Allo Allo – seen as light hearted humour which doesn’t offend because the emphasis is on the comical actions of others during the war rather than making a mockery of the actual event and making it look/sound as an insignificant event. 2) Actually refering to attrocities/events in the past and poking fun at the unfortunate people who got caught up the event. Now this is very unlikely to be put on film or on paper and this is what I was mainly refering to. I would write more but i think u will get the jist of it,
  13. Ngonge described his experience, this is what he said: “I vividly remember that dark day in my life. Even now, almost fifteen years later, I still wake up in the middle of the night sweaty and disturbed by flashing dreams and disconcerting images. I was an adolescent youngster, inexperienced and carefree. Life was great and easy back then. I had just purchased my new Nintendo console and was eager to play the Super Mario game that all my friends were raving about. The phone rang. I ignored it. It carried on ringing and ringing. In the meantime, Super Mario was crushing all those turtles. My mother walked into the room, slapped my head and muttered something then answered the phone. I carried on playing my game. Some time went by before I sensed that something was not right with the room! My mother was not on the phone anymore! I turned round and looked at her (another turtle killed Mario). She was staring at me with an angry look! She waved the phone handle on my face and said, “It’s for YOUâ€. I panicked. Who could it be? I took the phone of her hands and uttered a tentative HELLO! It was my friend (Cali Matag). He heard about my new computer game and was asking if he could come over and play. I told him that he could. He said that he’d drop by in an hour’s time. I hurriedly agreed and impatiently tried to end the conversation so as to get back to my game. I said BYE. He said BYE. Just as I was about to put the phone down, I heard him say, “By the way, did you hear about the war in Somalia?†I hadn’t of course, but I quickly replied in the affirmative and hung up. Two weeks later, I was bored of my Super Mario game. The pointless guilt though, still remains. PS In reality of course I only found out about the war when the Somali guys I used to play football with used to discuss it and then turn to me and say “adna na xaggad ka qaxday?â€...for some reason “Carabta†was not a reply they appreciated!†The way he described what was going on around him and his emotions at the time can be construed as being offensive, especialy to someone who has experienced far greater hardhsip at the same time by simply being in the wrong place at the wrong time. I’m sure Ngonge lost family and loved ones also. He just happened to be in carabta/uk at the time hence his ‘lighter’ take on things. AS for the question of making jokes out of attrocities, I tend to find that offensive. But is what Ngonge said making a mockery of the Civil war and hardship experienced???
  14. ^^^From geel to motorcycle i see, or shud it be geeljire to dugdugle
  15. Here we have a government based in another country, a cabinet made up of warlords and parasites and a president hated by most of his cabinet, yet you still persist in your argument that everything is going to be ok! Wasnt there a Beatles song called Dream Dream Dream? Seriously though, some tough decisions have to be made in the Cabinet, i just hope it all falls into place sooner rather than later.
  16. It takes one silly person to do such a thing. I hope the government arrests the perpetrator and makes an example of him in order to deter others in send out the message that they are serious about desarming people & installing peace. The govnt must act and act swiftly to dispell any fears among ordinary people and to also show that a they are not affraid of bringing them to justice, no matter which warlord/clan/faction they are part of. Does the govnt have any balls? Its crunch time!

  18. ^^True Most of us were too young to even grasp what was going on at that time. Living away from somalia at the time was difficult, hearing bad news from families etc. All we heard was that there was a war and that is enough to make you know that the situation was serious. Only later on in life you start to put the pieces together and how detrimental it was for everyone. The start of the 1990s saw a huge influx of Somali refugees to Europe and the North America. I think the light hearted-ness in this thread is more of a reflection on our attitudes today. Even though the events back then were atrocious and badly effected the majority of somali families, the reponses to this thread show that people are ready to put the past behind them (not totally) and get on with whats left of life. Your right its not a joking matter, allah yarxama to those who perished, we shall always remember them.
