The Somalia-Somaliland talks Thread

^^ It's not that it set me on edge or anything of the like. It is the lack of honest and direct opposition to this government. It's the fact that whenever I read any attacks on it they almost all have been empty words about "inanka yar that pretends to be a doctor" or Siilaanyo's hidden agendas, etc. There is nothing solid, there are no real charges and there is hardly anything that could be taken as fact by any reasonable person. Worse still, this is the argument of the sensible ones; the crazy ones talks about suitcases full of money going to Nairobi and what not.

I am sure, very certain and confident that there are lots of things that one could blame and question the government on alas none have or do.

Ngonge,

The opposition can only judge the FM on content if he appears before Parliament or answers questions from the media.

This happens for example when media ask questions:

And when Guurti wants the Minister to give accountability, he avoids them for months.

That goes without saying, saaxib. But it all depends on how the pressure is applied and what arguments are put forth. The sweeping generalisations that we see from the SL opposition serve no purpose but division and mistrust. Of course, that is not to say there are genuine concerns and questions to be asked of the Kulmiye admin and their approach to Somali politics.

It's just politics- Saxib. Wax faham

^^ This is not about the London conference this about holding the first ever meeting with the Hassan culusow and his people. The london conference is not about Somaliland and Somalia so it means little. Its about Somalia not about Somaliland it doesnt concern Somaliland

There seems to be an window of opportunity here, Siilanyo and Culusoow better seize the moment and reach a deal or else they will see Kenya, Ethiopia and their foot soldiers oo u heshiiyay.

You guys have a golden opportunity to cement your position in the future Somalia due to Koonfurta's desperation to get you guys back. You can even demand presidency to rotate between North and South and they would accept it. Sometimes people need to swallow their pride and grab the prize with both hands.

Haatu, I agree. Leadership sometimes requires swallowing pride and showing (political) maturity. I am sure Somalilanders are capable of doing that, they have done so in the past. The question is if they can find a reliable partner in Somalia. The continuing discussion on the constitution and somalia's future structure raises question.

^^ Haatu Somalilanders are not fighting to rule Somalia , Somalilanders are fighting for an official exit out in the eyes of the IC. Ruling Koonfurians is not attractive who wants to domesticate an ugly lady nagaadaa niyo dee. But a temporally relation ship with an exit out should be considered. The question is haatu why do koonfurians want Somalilanders back that i dont understand.

Somalia: President flies to Qatar, ‘expected to meet’ Somaliland leader in Dubai

25 Mar 25, 2013 - 9:07:13 AM

MOGADISHU, Somalia Mar 25, 2013 (Garowe Online)- Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud flew from Mogadishu on Monday en route to Qatar, where he is expected to attend the Arab League summit, Garowe Online reports

President Hassan spoke on Radio Mogadishu prior to his departure, saying that he will attend for the first time as Somali President the annual Arab League summit, which takes place in the Qatari capital Doha this year.Under former President Mohamed Siyad Barre, Somalia joined the Arab League in 1974.

“I will attend the Arab League summit and I will present the situation in Somalia, the progress achieved and the country’s needs,” said President Hassan.

Addressing media speculation about the sacking of the intelligence chief, President Hassan said: “Yes, Ahmed Moallim Fiqi [former intelligence chief] has resigned along with this deputy and I have appointed an interim chief and the work will continue.”

Somaliland dialogue

Sources in Mogadishu and Hargeisa tell Garowe Online that President Hassan is expected to travel to Dubai after attending the Arab League summit in Doha. President Hassan is “expected to meet” with the leader of Somalia’s separatist region of Somaliland, Ahmed Mohamed Silanyo, who is currently in Dubai.

Earlier this month, President Silanyo rejected attending the London Conference for Somalia, scheduled for May 7 and co-hosted by the Somali and UK governments in London.

A dialogue process between the Somali federal government and Somaliland’s separatist administration have stalled since June 2012, in part after Puntland was excluded from the talks as a stakeholder. Puntland and Somaliland have fought sporadic territorial battles since 2002, costing lives and leading to the displacement of over 50,000 civilians from Las Anod, according to a U.N. report.

Since September 2012, Somaliland has reversed its policy and has engaged in direct talks with Puntland regarding security matters.

Earlier this month, Somaliland arrested and returned to Puntland a suspect involved in the killing of a well-known Islamic scholar in Puntland on Feb. 15, 2013. The suspect had escaped to Somaliland and the move is seen as growing security cooperation between the two authorities that have been political rivals for over a decade.
