Abaayo holding hands and kissing passionately in public are entirely two different things, yes the qur’aan doesn’t say anything about public displays of affection but the qur’aan doesn’t also tell you how to pray and how many rak’ahs you need to pray in each Salat but Allah s.w TELLS US to be modest…my point is the prophet said we should DO AS HE TOLD US and he did tell us to be decent, respectful and modest.

now can you honestly say kissing passionately in public is modesty? Would you do it yourself? If not then why encourag/support others to do something that you wouldn't want to do it? (I know that is beside the point or it is not?)

Wouldn't you agree that its modest to keep private matters to yourself like affection and intimacy otherwise we will only end up behaving like animals and coupulate in public…yeah I know I know they are only kissing (No Big Big Deal...Ngonge smile.gif ) but as long as there is a guy called Sheitan I guarantee you kissing wont be the only thing they will be doing...married or not.

There are several places in the world where PDA is not allowed and they are not even Muslims...did you ever ask yourself why? Surprise surprise...even in Israel kissing in public is prohibited!

I hear Somalis kiss in front of everybody these days when they are getting married…I bet we think inee ilbaxnimo tahay but what we do not know is what the prophet said about imitating the kufaar…!

Ilaahay hansoo hanuuniyo kulligeenba dambigeenana ha dhaafo Insha Allah...Cafis iyo Misaamax kulligiin...I am out.

Salam Aleikum W.W

Walaalo I agree that it is modest to keep private matters to yourself and no I wouldnt do it. But the question was neither would you do this yourself nor is this modest.

otherwise we will only end up behaving like animals and coupulate in public…

Arent you exaggarating a bit here? All they did was kiss. If they did something else, I would be as outraged.

My precise Q was to Sister B who claimed that this was mocking hijab. And I said how? And yes we should be modest but when you CLAIM something is Haraam, you need to be able to pack it up. So no, the Quran doesnt tell you exactly how to pray but the Hadiths do and this is why I said an aaya or hadith or interpretation of hadith. So stop the moral outrage.

^ do you honestly need a hadith to tell you not to snog in pubic? married or not. That's a bit outrageous in itself.

Yes muslims will fall short because they, like everyone else are human but we should distinguish the difference between ppl's short comings and what's expected in Islam.

Modesty is part of the deen and there is nothing modest about doing those actions that should be done behind closed doors in full view of strangers in a pubic place.

It seems sometimes we argue for the point of arguing.

I was walking down in front of a major London Underground station when I saw in clear view and in front of everyone walking out there, a veiled young lady (with qimaar) and modestly dressed snogging away at her fella in plain view of everyone? I was blown away, to say the least.

Talk about assimilation, eh?

So why were you watching them?

next time keep it glued to the floor it will save you from more shocking incidents

Markaa dee kaalayoo adigu gacanta i qabo, dee. Joking, it was more of a one glance of my visual peripheral than roaming eyes, but I would take your 'talo'.

OMG Abdullah have you actually seen that? Too funny! But nothing beats walking down the street and seeing a Somali couple in love. It kinda makes me feel all mushy...like "awww that's sooo sweet"! Somali coupleska jidka markay maraayaan in la soo garaacay baa la moodaa. Dadkan waaba dad is jecel, iska deey nooh aboo.

They were not Somalis.

^does that make a difference, what race they were,as long as they are Muslims there is an expected code of behavior one 'must' abides by.

C&H, what is the aim and meaning of the Hijab? Once you know that then you will understand were Sister Blessed is coming from. Why are we told not to watch porn or any movie/image of sexual nature? We are human beings and those image tend to arouse people, either you agree or disagree but they do. So for someone wearing a HIJAB acting in such a manner is wrong either they are married or not,it truly doesn't make a difference.

I know perhaps wee nagaa badbadatee,we hardly see kissing and caressing each other on the streets as being wrong, heck it been embedded in us,if you don't kiss and grope each other[24hrs] then your not in love, its all bulshid..lol

When watching love scenes what emotions do they trigger within you? Honestly now..

Paragon,

If I were to disclose what happenes between I and my husband behind close doors, then there is no difference of me walking around naked...Words of our Prophet Muhamed[sAW]. Now just because one has satified papers at home, there is no excuse to acting lewd on the streets..Kapish! icon_razz.gif

You ask, what I will do to you?..Erm,walle ina Mogadishu lagu geeyo wayee..Alshabaab would have sort you out really well for me. :D

^Well said dear.. smile.gif I'm interested in nomads response RE love scenes too... :D

C&H

First of all as Malika said, we need to establish the meaning and purpose of hijab, xishma, xaya. Like I said - the hijaab is more than what you wear, in fact without the inner hijab - your jilbaab, abaya, long skirt is as NG said, nothing more than fancy dress. Part of inner xijab is not being suggestive, sexual in your demeanor and action. Part of lowering your gaze is not approaching anything that is seductive, sexual or suggestive in any way.

Back to the subject at hand. The brother mentioned snogging - which is what we're discussing here not holding hands. There is no offence in hold hands in public, even in conservative culures where PDA is banned.

It does not cause discomfort, embarrassment and does not as you stated of snogging in public show a lack of xishood It's not sexual nor is it paricularly intimate gesture between lovers as I can hold hands with my mum, daughters, father.. The bottom line of snogging etc.. is that it's a sexually intimate act. Do we agree, if not.. then we'll just have to leave it here.

If so, here's the hadith mentioned by Malika and also have a look a the tafsir of Quran 4.58. Read the ayah and the tafsir, I'A. I don't have any tafsir book to hand..

“On the Authority of Asmaa Bin Yazid who narrated that she was once in the presence of the Prophet and there were both me and women sitting. The prophet then said perhaps a man might discuss what he does with his wife; or perhaps a woman might inform someone what she did with her husband. The people were silent. Then I said O yes O messenger of Allah verily both the women and men do that. The prophet said do not do that. It is like a male Satan who meets a female Satan along the way and has sex with her while the people look in (Reported by Ahmed)

I can't tell you, so I certainly can't show you.

p.s Not all Islamic rulings are from Quran and hadith alone. A large portion of our deen is from ijtihaad of scholars and Allah commands us in the Quraan to ask 'the people of knowledge'. Most contemporary issues require ijtihaad. smile.gif

NG,

LOL. You just wanted to argue with me, darling. We said more or less the samething.

Ibts.. Muxuu kugu sameeyay?
