I read ethiomedia.com editorial Eritrea is not Somalia, Dec. 10, 2007 and I agree fully on the analysis that backed Melese's assertion that he will not go to war with Eritrea "without full scale of invasion" by Isayas of Eritrea. This is true because both tyrants are strategical friends and the current tactical misunderstandings which led to Badme war ten years ago and cost more than seventy thousands of civilian lives do not bother them at all because no one question these warlords and had we lived in a free country we would have damped these guys long ago. Strategically both are moving to their goal of fracturing Ethiopia beyond repair. The last Christmas war of going to Somalia is not because Somalia had launched full scale invasion against Ethiopian the litmus test presented by Melese for Eritrea but because that was a contractual obligation of war against terrorism by the dictatorial regime of Ethiopia for the Bush Administration. By going to war he invigorated the historical enmity of Somalis toward Ethiopians and that together with the Ethiopian Somalis fight for equality might lead in the long run for the break away of ****** which is the strategic goal of Melese and Isayas. The division within Kinijit which is encouraged in Addis Ababa as a government policy and Asmara not officially but by eliminating all patriots like the late Kassahun Hunde and many others is the coordination of the strategic goal of Melese and Isayas. Sibhat Nega and Melese Zenawi had said several times in public for Eritrean audience that no one better than EPRDF/TPLF will come to power in Ethiopia to secure their independence and warned that the coming of Kinijit and others is the end of Eritrean Independence. To support this strategic goal Ato Abrahm Yaye recently alleged on hagerfikerradio.com that the "Amharas bombed Ayder to split the Tigrean and the Eritrean people" in the Badme war. From all these what any layperson can conclude is that Melese and Isayas by destabilizing the rest of Ethiopia by detonating all the ethnic bombs on their way out they believe they will build their ultimate home "The Greater Tigray". The Oromos who are the majority, dispersed in large areas of Ethiopia and the rest of nationalities should take this threat from both Melese and Isayas seriously and avoid like they do now any animosity towards each other. The Somalis currently occupied by Melese's forces should realize this strategic alliance between Melese and Isayas and protect their leaders both in Asmara and Addis Ababa and they should not buy what they hear in Asmara and as they witnessed to their amusement there was no Eritrean fighting force who stood with them in the last Christmas invasion of Somalia. Moreover the Somali leaders in Asmara should ask one question, why Isayas is not opening another front in the north to help them out eject Melese's soldiers from Mogadishu ? What is one year of empty talk in Asmara acheives for them?. The answer to all of those questions is clear that the regimes in Asmara and Addis Ababa survive only on war footage and if that is gone they will go too and they will not do anything that will jeoparidize their strategic goal of leaving the rest of us in turmoil while defending and building "Greater Tigray". EDITORIAL This week, Somaliland’s Police Chief, Muhammad Saqadhi Dubbad, informed 23 journalists who fled the carnage in Mogadishu and who now reside in Hargeysa to leave the country within 24 hours. The police chief gave three reasons for the government’s decision: (a) the journalists engaged in activities that have endangered Somaliland’s security; (b) the journalists engaged in activities that could harm relations with neighboring countries, specifically Ethiopia; © the journalists have published writings harmful to Somaliland. These are serious charges indeed, but there are several problems here. One, the government has not provided any evidence. Two, if the journalists committed all those crimes why weren’t they tried and made to account for their alleged crimes instead of being expelled? Since the government has not provided convincing evidence to back its case, we can only judge by what we know, and what we know is that the journalists had met with representatives of Amnesty International, and it is probably this meeting that set of f the government’s alarm. The Somaliland Times has consistently advocated that Somaliland’s government be vigilant against security threats from those who want to destabilize the country. But based on available information, we think, in this case, the government has overreacted. Therefore, we request our government to reconsider its expulsion order on humanitarian grounds, and to allow the journalists to stay in Somaliland, the same way it has allowed so many other refugees. The Government of Wales Has Selected Somaliland & Lesotho For its African Link Development Hargeysa, Somaliland, December 08, 2007 (SL Times) - A delegation from the Cardiff based `Wales Somaliland Communities Link' (WSCL) organization have been holding week long consultations with various Somaliland government, local authorities and civil society institutions and organizations in order to identify partner organizations in Wales who can meet their development needs and requirements. Abdikarim Abdi Adan, the director of WSCL and Harris Nyatsanza, the link development officer of WSCL arrived last Saturday from the UK to conduct an 11 day project mission to Somaliland as part of the Government of Wale's `international sustainable development framework' launched in 2006 by the Welsh assembly. The framework is part of the Welsh government's initiative for working towards the Millennium development goals. Harris Nyatsanza said that “the Welsh government has earmarked for its Africa link development framework two African countries, Somaliland and Lesotho.” Mr Nyatsanza further explained that the “WSCL is an organization created specifically for the Somaliland development framework and had secured funds from the Welsh government to link institutions and organizations in Wales with those in Somaliland who will work together in partnership to meet the Millennium development goals.” WSCL is managed by the Cardiff `Somaliland Progressive Association' and was one of over 200 organizations in UK who responded to the Welsh government's consultations for its `international sustainable development framework'. Speaking to SL Times at Maansoor Hotel in Hargeysa on Friday, the director of WSCL, Abdikarim Adan revealed that "WSCL has established a pool of Welsh government, local authorities, education and health institutions and organizations ready to meet Somaliland's institutions and organizations development needs and that the purpose of our visit is to identify partner institutions and organizations in Somaliland who will benefit from development assistance and projects Offered by their Welsh counterparts." WSCL's development officer, Harris Nyatsanza briefly outlined WSCL's project objectives in Somaliland: "basically, we are identifying Somaliland institutions and organizations working in health, education, women and youth groups and also government, local authorities, media, legislature, and we have been looking at their needs so that we can identify possible partners for them in Wales.” Regarding their reception in Somaliland, Mr Nyatsanza said, “We have been warmly welcomed by everyone in Somaliland. We have seen the president, vice president and all the ministers and heads of departments in the various ministries. In particular, we have had long and constructive consultations with the ministries of Education and Health, and have finalized a number of initiatives, whereby, we will be facilitating for primary teachers and health professionals in Somaliland to spend three months learning and getting training in Wales which will be provided by their partners in the Welsh health and education institutions.” Responding to whether `WSCL would continue to play a role once partner organizations and institutions in Somaliland and Wales are linked’, Nyatsanza said: "that's a very important question. Our role is to facilitate. I have been using the analogy that we are like the midwife who helps deliver the baby but we are not the ones who are carrying the baby [funding projects]. We help identify partners in Somaliland and Wales and will help them to come together, sit down and define with them areas where they can work together as well as helping them to negotiate a memorandum of understanding.” Mr Nyatsanza continued, "if there is ever a problem to arise in future partnerships among institutions and organizations in Somaliland and Wales whose partnership we facilitated, we will be accessible to both parties to help resolve such complications." Asked if WSCL will be funding projects in Somaliland, Nyatsanza said: "No, we will only be facilitating institutions and organizations in Wales find their counter partners in Somaliland. Similarly, we will help institutions and organizations in Somaliland to find partners in Wales to fund their development needs. WSCL is taking the lead in community development by solely concentrating on the important things on the ground and identifying the needs." Mr Adan elaborated on this issue: "WSCL's chief priorities are to facilitate the link needed to get those in Somaliland to have direct contact and cooperation with their Counter-organizations in Wales. A good example is when we arranged for the Somaliland parliament speaker and his two deputies to come and see how the Welsh parliament operates and participated with the help of the Welsh assembly to take part in their chamber deliberations." Adan stated that they met the Lower parliament chair committee and discussed areas where they need capacity building assistance in their parliamentary functions. Adan added, "We have already a couple of initiatives from the Welsh Assembly which will assist Somaliland MPs to visit the Welsh assembly and get help in resolving particular legislative problems and procedures. Another initiative which we have formulated with the Welsh Assembly is the possibility of inviting to Wales the Somaliland parliament house select-committee chairpersons, eight in total, to spend a short period of time working with the Welsh Assembly's in house standing select-committees." "We have also discussed with the local Hargeysa government authority measures which have already begun in Cardiff linking Hargeysa with Cardiff, the capital of Wales. WSCL is a committee member in a board in Wales created to oversee Hargeysa and Cardiff becoming sister cities. In this board, the Cardiff local government authority, the Welsh and UK national local government association, and member Welsh organizations of the Somaliland community in Cardiff all sit on this board which is working to twin the two capital cities of Somaliland and Wales," said the director of WSCL. Adan underscored that they plan to travel next week to Borama, Berbera and Buroa to hold talks with the regional authorities, schools, hospitals and civil societies in these towns, so as to include them in their Somaliland link development project and program. The Welsh Assembly is the only body in the world which has formally given Somaliland full recognition status. Even though the Welsh body is a devolved assembly with power to make some legislation in Wales, however, it is subject to the veto of the UK Secretary of State or Parliament. In the Commonwealth Debate of the Welsh Assembly in 2006, it was discussed by the assembly members that Somaliland be the recipient African country to get their `international sustainable development framework', Lorraine Barrett, assembly member had this to say: “I wish to give my support to Lesotho. I have already had some involvement in helping Dolen Cymru. However, today, I will speak briefly about a country that is technically not in the Commonwealth, but which should be. Somaliland was known as the Somaliland Protectorate until independence in 1960, when it became the Somali Republic. Over many years of conflict, culminating in the civil war during the 1980s, the people of Somaliland withdrew from the union with Somalia, and eventually formed their own Government in 1991. There is a strong historic link between Somaliland and Cardiff, and I was delighted to welcome the speaker of the Somaliland Parliament, Mr. Abdillahi, to our new Assembly building recently. He was very proud to be part of our official opening on 1 March, and I thank you for that, Presiding Officer. Somaliland is struggling. While it has managed to build health centers and a new hospital in Hargeysa, as well as schools and two universities, it needs a lot of support from the international community. It desperately needs international recognition. Somaliland has achieved peace and has established a government and relative stability, only 20 years after experiencing the most devastating civil war, when its capital, Hargeysa, was literally flattened. Members of the Somali community in Cardiff are doing what they can to help their homeland, many of whom came here when that homeland was destroyed. However, they, and the Somaliland Government, need our help. I am not sure whether it is possible for the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association here to give support to Somaliland, but I would ask us all to consider ways in which we can help this brave country help itself". A 16-year-old girl "Somali origin" is fighting for her life in hospital, Monday, after Peel Regional Police received a call from a man claiming to have killed his daughter. Peel police told 680News the 911 call was received at 7:55 a.m. The Somali man told the dispatcher he had killed his daughter. Investigators said the incident happened in the Hurontario Street and Trailwood Drive area, at 5363 Longhorn Trail -- six houses away from a school yard. Crime scene tape wrapped around the front and back of the light-brown brick, double-garage house, which had four cars on the driveway. peelincident02 Police told 680News the woman was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries. She had no vital signs when paramedics arrived on the scene, but she was revived. "We received a call from a resident on Longhorn Trail here indicating that a male had just killed his daughter. We arrived on scene and located a 16-year-old female who was suffering from life-threatening injuries and she was transported to hospital," a Peel police official said. The 57-year-old man, believed to be the girl's father, is now in custody. Several people were taken away by police for questioning. It's believed close to a dozen people were in house when police arrived. It is unclear how they're related to the victim. There is a report she was strangled, but police have not confirmed that.

There is no question that the US has its own interest in the region and there is no question that Somaliland has its own interest too. Whatever America is thinking if it is the someliland's good then we will use it. They know if they put the Somaliland's case on the front they will have the resolution key in Somalia. There is a lot of such moves in Europe and AU these days ....

Press Release:Somaliland Human Rights Organisation Network On The Occasion Of The Anniversary Of The Human Rights Day December 10th, 2007 hadhwanaag 2007-12-10 (Hadhwanaagnews) Press Release On the occasion of the anniversary of the Human Rights Day, 10 December 2007, the Preparatory Committee of the up-coming General Meeting (GM) on 23 December 2007 and all members of the Original Shuro-net, likes to congratulate and support the Congress of the European Liberal Democrat and Reform Party (ELDR). In a letter dated 27/11/07 to the President of Somaliland, H. E. Dahir Rayale Kahin, the President of ELDR, Mrs. Annemie Neyts-Uyttebroeck MEP told that her party "adopted a resolution that calls upon the European Union and all of its Member States to give diplomatic recognition to the Republic of Somaliland and actively encourages the African Union to accept that Somaliland is not a secessionist state but rather a democratic entity that has abrogated a union with a failed State. However, our call is conditioned by the existence of a government that respects human rights, a free market, and democracy, with a free press and the possibility of democratic changes of government". The reason for this is, the letter continues, "in a region of the world where these qualities are in short supply, your country is a beacon of democracy". But ELDR was alarmed by the arrest on 28/7/07 of Dr. Mohamed Abdi Gabose, Engineer Mohamed Hashi Elmi and Mr. Jama Aideed Warsame, the leaders of Qaran Political Association, which she sees can have a serious consequence for Somaliland's recognition. In a letter to Mr. Javier Solana, Secretary-General of the Council of the European Union, the ELDR President is blunter as she says "Somaliland's current political system and its leadership are failing to meet the minimum standards expected of a free and democratic State. Neither does the Somaliland government respect international human rights laws such as the Universal Declaration of Human Rights". These are serious accusations. The courageous support by one of the three main parties of the European Union is so far the best thing that happened to Somaliland's quest for international recognition. But Somaliland does not realise what it is missing. The ELDR, other supporters and friends seem to be getting wary and their goodwill is being eroded by careless Government violations against human rights and the standard pillars of democratic behaviour in Somaliland. Glaring examples are the arrest of the three top leaders of Qaran Political Association, the increasing suppression of the freedom of the press and the usurpation of the office of Shuro-net, the umbrella organization of the civil society human rights network. The friends of Somaliland including Lord Avebury, senior member of the British House of Lords; SIRAJ; Professor I. M. Lewis; Somaliland Focus and Somaliland Forum believe that the Government's uncanny behaviour is not helping them to continue airing their support for Somaliland's international recognition. The ELDR President said, "These unlawful processes have already set the cause of Somaliland's recognition back, and if continued, must inevitably halt progress for the time being". This is a dire warning. The GM Preparatory Committee and all members of the Original Shuro-net find it strange the Somaliland Government's attitude to ignore the many concerns of the international community as well as the frequent appeals within the country about the deteriorating situation of human rights in Somaliland. We honestly urge the Government, in particular the President H. E. Dahir Rayale Kahin, to heed the cries for caution and reverse Somaliland's sinking image in the eyes of the world. Instead of meddling in human rights issues like the freedom of the press, the arbitrary arrests of citizens and the gagging of human rights organizations, it is better to bask in the victory of Lasanod which lifts the people's spirit of patriotism and unity. The country is passing a promising time when the population need not be pushed to desperation and mistrust, but instead given hope that at last the dark clouds of doom are lifting. Confidence building measures to break the ice that goes down well inside and outside Somaliland are: 1) the immediate and unconditional release of the leaders of Qaran Political Association, 2) the release of all detainees under the Public Order Law and 3) the abolition of the illegal Security Committees and lastly the respect of fundamental rights of Somaliland citizens.
