"The woman in black wanted an Islamic divorce. She told the religious judge that her husband hit her, cursed her and wanted her dead. But her husband was opposed, and the Islamic scholar adjudicating the case seemed determined to keep the couple together. So, sensing defeat, she brought our (out) her secret weapon: her father." More Here The article suggests, nearly 99% of the cases handled by Shariah Courts in the United Kingdom deals with divorce (mainly abused women seeking release) and almost always the judges urging the couple should stay together. What are your thoughts on this subject. And as Muslims in the West, if presented with a similar situation, would you personally go to a Shariah Family court to resolve these issues? And if taking this approach proved to be ineffective to you individually, what other options are available?
  2. @It is about virginity. He said he always dreamed of marrying and since he's been playing " da field he can smell a non-virgin woman. What a creep. How long/well did she know this man? From the sound of things, he seemed to never have loved her or respected her, to have shamed her in such a public manner. My heart goes out to her, I'A it will only make her stronger. Better to be separated at this stage than at a later stage in the marriage.
  3. @I believe this piracy thing is not something ONLY Somalis are behind, I believe there are international group involved. Like the sniper could not have been a black man . If there are any pirates and thiefs it's these (insert an insult here) that are in Somali territory, stealing our resources and dumping toxic waste in our country, ciil badana. Walle these fishermen wa rag ee i dah. I can only imagine the potential of our country, the heights it could reach, the resilience of the ppl, if only the political mess could be solved. Great article @ http://www.csmonitor.com/2008/1120/p09s01-coop.htm l
  4. Amina macaanto why do you allow it  , it reminds me of stories I used to hear about girls being fed after their brothers, I am very bad at geography, but I am pretty sure Melbourne is not in Africa . No seriously it's your house, your rules . I know what you are talking about and it drives me mad, it boils down to common courtesy, but when I can help it, if we are having a xaflaad/party at my house or close relative, or the masjid and I am one of the organizers etc rest assured I will take the lead and say ladies first. Take charge
  5. Amina I know what you mean it drives me nuts! These backward cultures what do we expect? Taking the initiative would change things.
  6. Are you ppl kidding me  ....the score to beat is 9, let's see who can do that good.

  8. ^LOL, its called being professional. $15,000? Odd ppl if true.
  9. @And his opening paragraph reveals his flawed thinking. Muslims, unfortunately, are more oppressed and humiliated in their own countries which is why they come to a place like the States. You would think the Imam would know that better than anyone else. He does, what the Imam is saying is that Muslims will have greater impact and can be a change of force in their own countries in bringing back righteous islamic rule. But he falls short in outlining on exactly how, or perhaps I missed it. Tough topic that affects us all. Although I understand what the Imam is saying, he offers no feasible solutions to many of us Muslims in the west, other than make hijra to Muslim countries which is not easy! Further I don't believe America is dar al harb, nor do I think ordinary Americans are at war with Muslims, this country and its people are in the hands of the few that make these policies that are not only harmful to the Muslim world but the entire globe including America itself. I don't see why that can not change. Muslim Americans have deep roots in America, I honestly can't see how running away from our problems and seeking refuge in Muslim lands would make the world a better place to live. I wish the Sheikh addressed that point.
  10. ^The article mentions the crew were told by the captain not to bring any food or water, one of the brothers died and a woman was rescued although she later died at the hospital. Bottom line, if this seems unbelievable there are many such cases. Why does it happen in extreme cases in order to survive? Sort of like why do heterosexual inmates turn to homosexuality in prison. Though former case food is for survival. The mysteries of human beings, beats me.
  11. That is not a suprise, it is America afterall and Washington is ruled by the Israeli lobby and for a long time to come. There is only so much change one can accomplish. Beats the opposite team's policies any day nevertheless. Obama's Cabinet would most likely parallel Clinton's administration, and that is nostalgia for many in this country whom endured Bush's 8 years in office. Insha-Allah khair.
  12. Money walaal if there is any marginalized clan it's women. I have learned stoning occured in Hergesia in which 4 girls were stoned to death in the mid-90s for "Zina", and that is just one example. Have you ever and this is a serious question, ever heard of any man that was stoned to death for committing adultery? I certainly haven't and I am damn sure neither has anyone else. That alone tells me there is serious haterd against women coming from these "religious figures", and this is not false accusations made by the "enemies of Islam" but the ugly truth in "Muslim" Countries. It's very sad.
  13. bisinka! markaan odayga iyo cuungta arka waan isku naxaay, mar nah waan qoosleey waxaan moodey inn u ayaga "guurka" ka dhaaxeeyo, subhanllah what is this world coming too  . Lakiin it's between the children saan haada u fahmay. bizzare as it is, however not as sickening nothing in this world is suprising anymore.
  14. Her legacy shall never be forgotten I'A. I have contacted many agencies, haven't recieved any emails back as of now. If any of you have information regarding this young girl please do send me a message. Thank you. May Allah Bless Aisha! And her killers rot in hell! 31 October 2008 Contrary to earlier news reports, the girl stoned to death in Somalia this week was 13, not 23, Amnesty International can reveal. Aisha Ibrahim Duhulow was killed on Monday, 27 October, by a group of 50 men who stoned her to death in a stadium in the southern port of Kismayu, in front of around 1,000 spectators. Some of the Somali journalists who had reported she was 23 have told Amnesty International that this age was based upon a judgement of her age from her physical appearance. She was accused of adultery in breach of Islamic law but, her father and other sources told Amnesty International that she had in fact been raped by three men, and had attempted to report this rape to the al-Shabab militia who control Kismayo, and it was this act that resulted in her being accused of adultery and detained. None of men she accused of rape were arrested. “This was not justice, nor was it an execution. This child suffered a horrendous death at the behest of the armed opposition groups who currently control Kismayo,” said David Copeman, Amnesty International's Somalia Campaigner. “This killing is yet another human rights abuse committed by the combatants to the conflict in Somalia, and again demonstrates the importance of international action to investigate and document such abuses, through an International Commission of Inquiry.” Amnesty International has learnt that: Aisha Ibrahim Duhulow was reported as being 23, based upon a judgement on her physical appearance, according to one of the journalists who had reported the stoning. Her actual age was confirmed to Amnesty International by other sources, including her father. Her father said she had only travelled to Kismayo from Hagardeer refugee camp in north eastern Kenya three months earlier. She was detained by militia of the Kismayo authorities, a coalition of Al-shabab and clan militias. During this time, she was reportedly extremely distressed, with some individuals stating she had become mentally unstable. A truckload of stones was brought into the stadium to be used in the stoning. At one point during the stoning, Amnesty International has been told by numerous eyewitnesses that nurses were instructed to check whether Aisha Ibrahim Duhulow was still alive when buried in the ground. They removed her from the ground, declared that she was, and she was replaced in the hole where she had been buried for the stoning to continue. An individual calling himself Sheik Hayakalah, was quoted on Radio Shabelle saying:``The evidence came from her side and she officially confirmed her guilt, while she told us that she is happy with the punishment under Islamic law.'' In contradiction to this claim, a number of eye witnesses have told Amnesty International she struggled with her captors and had to be forcibly carried into the stadium. Inside the stadium, militia members opened fire when some of the witnesses to the killing attempted to save her life, and shot dead a boy who was a bystander. An al-Shabab spokeperson was later reported to have apologized for the death of the child, and said the milita member would be punished. Background Amnesty International has campaigned to end the use of the punishment of stoning, calling it gruesome and horrific. This killing of Aisha Ibrahim Duhulow demonstrates the cruelty and the inherent discrimination against women of this punishment. The reports on this killing should be understood within the climate of fear that armed insurgent groups such as al-Shabab have created within the areas they control in Somalia. As Amnesty International has documented previously, government officials, journalists and human rights defenders face death threats and killing if they are perceived to have spoken against al-Shabab, who have waged a campaign of intimidation against the Somali people through such killings. Since the death, a number of individuals have told Amnesty International they have fled from Kismayo out of fear of suffering a similar fate to Aisha Ibrahim Duhulow.
  15. @The Quran and the Sunnah have laid down broud principles and could be used as a guidance for new ideas, concepts, and rulings for an Islamic Constitution. Yet stories like what happened in Kismaayo or in the Gulf countries, Nigeria in the name of Islam are all far too common? Why is the question? If the culprit is the misuse and misinterpretations of the Sharia, than where is the right use of Sharia? What punishment do those who misuse sharia recieve? Nothing. Meeshaan Islam ma jiireey Allaho noo hiilii.

^I have always been amazed how that sort of talk actually worked it's charm, can you imagine how many other women those words were used on? Any guy that speaks in that fashion is a big fat liar, beenloo but it seems to work go figure. LOL@ say walaalhi, intaas waxaan ka garaanaya inaad thirteenjir shukaanmisid. LOL *jokes*
  17. "This year, Somali officials say, pirate profits are on track to reach a record $50 million, all of it tax free." "“All you need is three guys and a little boat, and the next day you’re millionaires,” said Abdullahi Omar Qawden, a former captain in Somalia’s long-defunct navy." "People in Garoowe, a town south of Boosaaso, describe a certain high-rolling pirate swagger. Flush with cash, the pirates drive the biggest cars, run many of the town’s businesses — like hotels — and throw the best parties, residents say. Fatuma Abdul Kadir said she went to a pirate wedding in July that lasted two days, with nonstop dancing and goat meat, and a band flown in from neighboring Djibouti. “It was wonderful,” said Ms. Fatuma, 21. “I’m now dating a pirate.” Source
  18. @But we should not let them destroy our society and paint our religion as barbaric. And how do you think this can be achieved? Majority if not all Muslim states are corrupt. You have those whom are siding with war on terror machine committing gross human rights violations or on the other hand those whom are declaring themselves defenders of the people and committing gross human rights violations. While the rest of the people are just caught in between.
  19. OMG OMG i am speechless, subhan'Allah. Prayers are not going to do anything, action needs to be taken. Her father should seek justice and not let this go. I think we should do something and not let this case go just because its Somalia and horrendous crimes have been the norm, this is beyond belief. Does anyone have more information or whom is responsible for ordering this??
  20. Salams Money, I think you arguments are interesting, minus some references but overall I like your thought process walaal. Lets be aware we don't know all the facts, I had heard last night about this case, as evident the woman had to been married due to the punishment she recieved, and according to some there was a man involved whom testified against the victim. Allah knows best! Here's an interesting article that deals with some of the points you raised, haven't read it in great detail or know who the author is, just found the information informative. http://islam21.net/main/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=112&Itemid=40
  21. You honestly can't be that naive. Turn herself in? What a joke, I very much doubt that to be the case, the article even mentions her kicking and screaming and as a result a death of a child. Suprise, suprise, only the woman punished here. Subhan'Allah. Ilaahay ha u naxaristo.
  22. Non-Muslims are part of the human family, as long as they are not working against the interests of the deen or harming you, than yes it's completely acceptable to be friends, in fact this is the very outlet most people are exposed to Islam and Muslims.
  23. From this link: http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=HYaEcj9IVBI&feature=related It does sound like what the doll is being accused of saying. Coincidence perhaps? Fisher Price is not owned by Muslims to my knowledge nor could I ever see Muslims interested in spreading islam this way as these ignorant people are claiming.
