  6. Look at it this way, Jaale Korneyl - if an experienced ex-African rebel leader and diplomat like d'Timojilic believed, and still believes, that Iley is sincerely on the side of the people, and only does what the TPLF wants because if he didn't, they would kill him - then surely we can forgive the naivete of all those loyal progressive secessionists (not to mention any names in particular cough*Clickon*cough)?
  7. Well, in truth it's sometimes one, sometimes the other, and often both, and I guess a lot of the time it's also neither. I suppose that's too messy though. Still, this sort of 'argument' reminds me 77 war. A revolutionary cause that currently is not at the heart of a dispute between the two countries can't be anything like that. Since simple narratives, or narratives for simpletons, are the stuff politics is made of, probably I'd say 'Somali region' would be the most useful political moral judgment, in a long term sense, but the long term is pretty damn long, and in the short term that sort of thinking will make things worse, because the only other viable option actually is worse. Not as maddeningly hypocritical perhaps, but viciously, concretely, immediately worse. Such was the genius of Harshin that has blessed us with this change-resistant political stability we have that looks and smells like occupation and gives us such abundant 'lesserevilism', to use another indignant phrase. Part of Ethiopia, that is exactly what he was saying.
  8. Xanjuaf, geopolitically speaking you understand the tinny confusing triangle in your pipe dreams is either under The Republic that you have referred as a failed state or Jigjiga's Iley regime. But reality is, even as a part of the artificial state of Ethiopia which is founded on colonial doctrine, the borders of the O Somali territory are naturally well demarcated. It lies Oromia to the West, Afar land to the Northwest, the Republic of Djibouti to the North, Kenya to the South and The Somali Republic to the east. You can learn one or two from the world atlas maps . But to find exactly how far is the triangle from the artificial state of Ethiopia , follow Bashiir yare : As for the flag on Aware Jigjiga and Harshin , sow taan idhi... Jabhadu mabd'a weeye, karti ahaansheheedu nafta iyo maalka u hur weeye lagu mutaystay weeye. Xornimo waa madax banaani martabo la gaadho weeye maamus iyo calanle weeye midnimo ku dhalata weeye . 9. The natural border between the two countries is the one between Ogadeenia and Ethiopia. No body in the world recognizes a non existent administrative line as a border. It will remain so until it is solved. But if you believe what you portray out of ignorance, you can always say sorry to the forum. Otherwise, you will keep banging your head against a brick wall.
  10. But there is one Somalia, and that was the rock on your face.
  11. Xaunjuf, I understand how scissors can beat paper, and I get how a rock can beat scissors, but there's no way paper can beat rock. Is paper supposed to magically wrap around rock and leave it immobile? Why the hell can't paper do this to scissors? Screw scissors, why can't paper do this to people? Why aren't sheets of college ruled notebook paper constantly suffocating students as they take notes in class? I'll tell you why, because paper can't beat anybody. A rock would tear that shit up in 2 seconds. When I play rock paper scissors, I always choose rock. Then when somebody claims to have beaten me with their paper I can punch them in the face with my already clenched fist and say, oh shit I'm sorry, I thought paper would protect you, you ..ashole." Not surprisingly, therefore, you got a nice paper map there. 20. Salaan sare, Ugaas. Melle has been scientifically taught the art of begging, no surprise he is the top aid recipient. Ethiopia became his personal cash-cow. The the miss use of the aid money(click here) made him the regional leader. He deserves a sharp dig in the ribs.
  21. Britain has chosen Ethiopia to be its biggest recipient of development aid during the next four years. Several donor governments are ramping up assistance as Ethiopia sets ambitious goals for eradicating poverty and hunger. Ethiopia will receive $2 billion in British development assistance in a four-year period. Howard Taylor, head of the British aid program in Ethiopia, says the decision to boost assistance was based on need as well as evidence that the country has made major strides in recent years. Ethiopia Prime Minister Meles Zenawi says his country's economy has grown at a rate of 10 percent or more during each of the past seven years. International aid agencies question the method of calculating the figure. But Mr. Meles says that even double-digit growth would not be enough because Ethiopia's population has increased faster than the country's rate of economic growth. The population now stands at around 80 million people. Taylor says that although the accuracy of the government data can be debated, there is no doubt that Ethiopia’s economic growth is accelerating. "The precision of the data is disputed, and we have an ongoing conversation ourselves with partners, including the government itself, about some of that data. But the headline issue, which nobody disputes, is that there has been from a low base tremendous development progress in Ethiopia over the last eight to ten years or so," he said. Taylor says recent studies show that Ethiopia receives far less aid than it needs - half as much in assistance per capita compared to other African countries. He attributes that partly to donor concerns about the killing of anti-government demonstrators following Ethiopia’s disputed 2005 election. "It’s a fact that overseas aid to Ethiopia did decrease after the 2005 election. It has since increased. I think the size of the population in Ethiopia is a key factor in why the per capita aid is low because Ethiopia is so populous and still growing so fast," he said. A poverty index released by Oxford University and the United Nations last year ranked Ethiopia as the world's second poorest country, after Niger. But the Ethiopian government’s latest five year economic plan includes the ambitious goal of achieving self-sufficiency in food. Taylor says international donors are increasing their aid budgets, even as they struggle with their own economic troubles. "They’re certainly in the poorest 10 countries in the world. But I think that’s an obvious argument for continued support and increasing what we do here. We are trying to help the millions of very poor, very vulnerable Ethiopians improve their lives," he said. Britain and the European Union are among Ethiopia’s biggest aid donors. The United States is the largest bilateral aid contributor to Ethiopia, averaging more than $1 billion in assistance per year since 2007. During that time, U.S. aid has included more than $1.5 billion in food aid to prevent famine and alleviate chronic food shortages. Source : Voice of America
