  1. For more than a decade several districts around the proclaimed border area have been under control of Puntland administration and for more than a decade, nothing has been undertaken to change that. If there was a coordinated military action on across the border area on that specific day, the elder's comments would be reasonable but nothing like that was undertaken. As a result, an attack on a makeshift militia's checkpoint located 85 kilometers away from Garowe during the president's visit, is surely a political stunt with the aim to keep Somaliland's masses busy for not noticing the elite's shortcomings of not delivering the promised international's recognition of the country.
  2. The defacto dictator of Turkey. The only way Erdogan can keep the masses silent is to keep the system running. That means more economic growth, more access to higher education for the masses, more presence on international political stage, and most importantly more quality spinning from his spin doctors. Erdogan can visit the entire continent of Africa, but make no illusions there is no such thing as a free lunch.
  3. How do you interpret Mr. Keating's comments about airspace? It seems to me that what he is trying to say is that both parties have to find compromises in order for the relationship to work. However, why is the airspace issue such a hot topic in Somaliland?
  4. Cirro truly deserves to be honored. Putting one's own interests aside for the common good of the people is in the Horn of Africa a trait rarely exhibit by individuals. Therefore, I congratulate Mr. Cirro for showing us what strong leadership entails.
  5. Historically the real estate industry is one of the truly highly developed industries throughout Somalia's history. Even when the Italians were running Mogadishu there was a large market for real estate since ownership of a residential property gave the owner rights to settle within the city. So Somalis are experts in this area so it is better to pay a premium and let the pros handle it. Why all the headache?
  6. The sheer amount of hypocrisy is so immense to a point that it makes me laugh. Because if the US government recognizes Jerusalem as the capital of the state of Israel, does anything change on the ground? Israel still occupies all the lands that the United Nations has allocated to the Palestinians: including entire East Jerusalem. With or without the recognition of the United States, the city of Quds: including the Holy Mosque is under the control of Isreal. So nothing will change if the Trump administration goes ahead with this move. Matter fact, this episode will simplify this complex situation in the Middle East and will show Pro-Palestinians groups that America can never be a Neutral partner in any talks.
  7. Mooge. Walaal. Developed nations have laws that contain the scope of lobbying done for foreign entities and simultaneously if the lobbyists breach these laws, they are held accountable. So there is a system in place. Since there is no system in place in our country, there is no way we can have lobbyists. Ciida can't be held accountable for these individuals' action. So let's called them what they really are: Mercenaries.
  8. It is funny how some of our politicians and journalists behave as if Somalia is a democracy. Honestly, what kind of mandate do Members of Parliament have? Moreover, taking into account the current political situation of the country and the structure of the parliament. It is completely irrational that groups like "Damul-Jadiid" could exist so openly. It seems like Somalia is developing its own form of a secret society whose aim is to prevent the establishment of a fully functioning government.
  9. Ever since Somalia's Federal government opted for a neutral position in the current Golf crises, UAE government has been trying to undermine the government's every step indirectly. We can' speculate on UAE's motives, however, their actions are clear. So to call out individuals who might be on the payrolls of the Emirates is reasonable. And if they are, thenI would personally prefer these individuals to denounce their Somali citizenship. At least then we would know where their priorities lie.
  10. Of course, who is not amazed about Somaliland's election. Catchy slogans, compelling manifestos, and captivating narratives are all part of this election cycle. However, it seems like the elites of Somaliland have outdone themselves this time around. Making the process more interesting than what actually is being elected. "The Chief Manager of the Handouts." Yaab
  11. A man like Zakaria with zero credibility wants to enlighten his fellow MPs and raise awareness about corruption. Ciyaarta ha la joojiyo
  12. Allaha ha uu naxariisto iyo janada fardowsa alaha ka waraabsho. Cawad was a true patriot. A man of logic and reasoning. Another sad week for Somali nationalists. Somalia is soon heading to be a country of the tribalists and the ignorant. What a shame!
  13. It feels like that the Catalan separatists are making their final stand. Knowing that the majority of the population of Catalonia supports secession why rush to decisions or jump to conclusions. The people should be on the separatists' side. So haven’t the Nationalists implemented a decade-long separatists' agenda where every level of the civilian government is occupied by separatists when Socialists where in power in Madrid. A pattern is clearly to see. When the likes of Zapatero are in office in Madrid: Everything is good about Spain and there is no issue with being Spanish, However, the moment that other parties are in firm control of the central government, the sections of the Catalan population start to beat the drums of separatism. If the separatists are truly majority of the Catalan population, then time will be on their side. However, seeing how contradictory their actions and philosophies are, it is more likely that the Unionists are the majority in Catalonia. .
  14. Allaha ha uu naxariisto iyo janada fardowsa alaha ka waraabsho. Jan. Maxamed Abshir Hamaan is a true Somali nationalist. He spent 18 years in solidary confiment before being released at the start of the civil war. Allocated hundreds of hours of his own precious time to bring peace to rival factions in the civil war. Somalia has truly transcended to a new age where the founding fathers of our nation have all passed away. Hopefully, Maryooley can advantage from these new times.
  15. The ones in India are also coming home soon, insha allah.
  16. How many thousands of Somaliland's youth make the journey across the Mediterranean Sea to finally claim Wanlaweyn ancestry. "Abaayo waxaan kaso jeeda Afgooye".
  17. Edna is a great person, but a very limited politician. In her infamous speech, it clearly shows off what kind of a person she is. The beautiful and compassionate part of her speech is completely overshadowed by her insulting and demeaning part. Beyond any doubt, Edna Aden is unfit to head Somaliland's negotiation team. Nonetheless, Hargeysa's chief goal in the talks is not to make any progress. Thus, Mrs. Aden perfectly fits the picture.
  18. Totally taken out of context, the reasons why some delegates refused a statement like that is unknown. Let us not assume motives. Ceynte was putting forward the argument that "how the international community's meddling has contributed to the state of chaos in Somali politics." As a clear example of this meddling, he recounts the negotiation rounds prior to the London conference in 2012. However, as I can recall London conference's communique did have some diluted statement regarding Somalia's unity being indivisible. Now fast forward five years, if Somaliland had powerful friends back then, why has not much changed in Somaliland's quest for independence.
  19. Please let the secessionists believe in their own dreams, there is no need to wake them from their dreams. As it stands right now: Somaliland is projected to gain full international recognization in the year 2091.
  20. Although some parents understand the trade-off, others are very unaware of the trade-off (enjoying the fruits of a western democracy and maintaining and cultivating Somali culture and diin). At the end day, these two great forces will have a profound effect on anyone who has encountered them. Therefore, I believe that these new situations need to be dealt with new creative solutions since the old solutions have shown us not to work.
  21. The notion that politicians are held accountable by the public is non-existent in Somalia. If President Farmaajo were to implement the same policies as President Hasan Sheikh, it is possible that Farmaajo can get away with it. Different persons, different spin doctors, and different expectations. Thus, I don't expect a public uprising to take place if nothing were to change the next two years.
  22. Since you consider yourself as a foreign, why do you have much a strong interest in Somalia's internal affairs?
  23. Thousands of young Somalilanders risk their lives every month trying to cross the Mediterranean Sea hoping to find a better life in Europe. In doing so they claim to be Southerns who fled the civil war in Somalia. The country which most of them hated the most of their lives. And this is what you call a country on the march, shame on you!!!
  24. The article makes some valid points about the correlation between peace and development on one hand, and war and destruction on the other hand. However I disagree with the fact that the intensity of economic activity can be determined by street lighting. Obviously, more date is needed to determine that. The other statement about the war economy is also weak. There are undoubtedly individuals who benefit from the ongoing war. But to say that Somalia has a war economy, indicates to me that the writers of this article have no clue about what's going in Somalia. Therefore this piece is a nice read but nothing more than that
