  1. ^^Do y'all look up from ur life? Where have u been the past seven odd years. Crack baby kulaha.......news flash there are already crack babies out there who are of somali descent. Incase you need a reality check take a drive thru riverside ave (mn) & dixon (canada) on a weekend. I am sure you will run into more than two or three somalis who are drunk and on crack. Better yet, since u might be squemish, take a trip to your county hospital and see how many somalis r brought in to sober up during the weekend. **Tune in to your world**
  2. ^^You are talking about Senator George Allen. He not only called the dude a makaka but he seemed embrassed of his jewish heritage. I guess he was miffed at the fact he would have to figure out how to get a jewish angle in on his christian republican campaign. Along the same lines of alcoholism and being depraved, what I heard on NPR the other day shocked me. Exodus, a evangelical church, were turning homosexuals into heterosexuals. What puzzles me is that most monotheistic faith consider homosexuality to be a deviant behavior and thus unacceptable, and here is a church treating it? I guess it brings new meaning to the phrase hate the sin not the sinner .
  3. ^^^I don't understand what u saying. Care to rephrase that?

  5. Rudy! Sometimes silence is golden. The poem is not about her pain. The poem is about Africa. Read it again and absorb it into your soul.
  6. I agree that the answers are probably scripted but I still think Somali community would do well with actually getting information from the horses mouth and dicerning if they side with the candidates. I say this from experience. During the primaries I was in a booth next to an old somali woman and her son. He was telling her what to circle. He probably knew what he was talking about but I think half the time somalis go to the ballot with someone else's choice. On the same day I got a call from my aunt urguing me to vote for a certain candidate. I nearly burst out with, "Its my vote, I can do what I want with it!" but I politely listened to her and told her I will be voting as to who I will be voting for its still unknown. Its good to see more minorities in the political spectrum. Keith Ellison is the immediate one I can think of in MN.

  8. You should look into the U of M. I do believe they will have a program up and running to look favourably on Somali PharmD applicants. Also I recommend doing some shadowing work, that way you can actually discern if this is the field for you. The Pharm industry is pretty big with clinical pharmacy these days being the preferable route. HCMC, Fairview, CVS or even the somali owned pharmacy on franklin can help you. PCAT, PCAT, PCATs.........lol should I say more. The earlier you do them the better. U of M has an early application deadline if your pre-reqs are completed, its October 1 or thereabouts (I believe). Good luck on your journey. If you have any Q's feel free to ask. Ps:- When you do apply do not limit yourself to just U of M. Apply to as many schools as you can.
  9. Local libraries give classes for Xcel not only spreadsheets but how to use it. I know you can set up intergrals but I can't remember how. Hopefully u sorted out your problem.
  10. Originally posted by NGONGE: Does that mean that when a reckless Muslim commits an act of terror (for instance), Islam is to blame? I will probably be in trouble for saying this and it is off the topic, but I have to reply to that question with the knowledge I have of Islamic rulings. That reckless Muslim that commits that act of terror is following Islamic text so there is no blaming. They are absolving the rest of the Ummah from their obligation. So, if you really pushed I would have to say, yep Islam is to blame. “And fight them until there is no more Fitnah (disbelief and polytheism, i.e. worshipping others besides Allaah), and the religion (worship) will all be for Allaah Alone [in the whole of the world]. But if they cease (worshipping others besides Allaah), then certainly, Allaah is All-Seer of what they do†[al-Anfaal 8:39] “Then when the Sacred Months (the Ist, 7th, 11th, and 12th months of the Islamic calendar) have passed, then kill the Mushrikoon (see V.2:105) wherever you find them, and capture them and besiege them, and lie in wait for them in each and every ambush. But if they repent [by rejecting Shirk (polytheism) and accept Islamic Monotheism] and perform As-Salaah (Iqaamat-as-Salaah), and give Zakaah, then leave their way free. Verily, Allaah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful†[al-Tawbah 9:5] “and fight against the Mushrikoon (polytheists, pagans, idolaters, disbelievers in the Oneness of Allaah) collectively as they fight against you collectively. But know that Allaah is with those who are Al-Muttaqoon (the pious†[al-Tawbah 9:36] “March forth, whether you are light (being healthy, young and wealthy) or heavy (being ill, old and poor), and strive hard with your wealth and your lives in the Cause of Allaah. This is better for you, if you but knew†[al-Tawbah 9:41] You want to distinguish between Islam and Muslim? Islam is the faith and muslim is the follower, simple right, but its the degrees of faith that cause the disparity. Saying the shahada makes you a muslim but does that mean you are a believer? There is even a hadith that highlight this. Prophet Mohamed (SAW) is said to be distributing Zaakah when he doesn't give it to one person. Sa'd ibn Waqaas speaks up saying that he believes the neglected man to be a faithful believer. The prophet (SAW) replies "Or (merely) a Muslim". What I am getting at? Goth fails to highlight the distinction between the two. Back to the topic at hand. Censorship does exist and I never said it didn't, that it occurs under the guise of Islam is where I draw the line. The terrorist has the seal of approval of Islam, he is following his texts. On the other hand ,the oppressor, who curtails freedom of press to further his cause does not. A twisted understanding of an Islamic text that says Islam allows for freedom of press to occur would be sufficient to prove that Islam has a hand in it, otherwise the journalist in question should have either approached the subject universally or specifically (tyrannical government). His take on it was slanted religiously & that my dear Ngonge is my beef with him.
  11. The writer in a Muslim society is in shackles. Every time I put pen to paper it is a struggle against the tyranny of community-imposed self-censorship. Nowhere is Rousseau's statement that "Man is born free; and everywhere he is in chains," truer than in the House of Islam. In the House of Islam, you cannot have a principle other than that of the community. Every thing you do is referred to Islam. In the Islamic world you cease to be a human being. You become only a Muslim, whatever that entails. You are not allowed to be a person with vices and virtues, you cannot follow your own reasoning, and you cannot be unpopular or defend an unpopular idea. You cannot go out of the circle. To express yourself freely means to risk death. And death indeed if you change your faith. Invention itself is considered as an act of blasphemy. Censorship in the Islamic world is instilled at childhood. Children are taught that there are two angels sitting on the shoulders of every person entrusted with the task of monitoring every good and bad deed the person does or says. It takes a village to raise a child in Africa, it takes a community to kill a writer, artist and a journalist in the Muslim world. Ngonge I can't critize a piece of writing by a journalist objectively when they approach a subject subjectively. Fox news is a classic example to it. As you can see I picked a few quotes from his piece. I will try not to pick on him so i will lump him in with journalists and I will approach censorship in the same likeness (generally). Earlier I said he was subjective noh? Can I ask you a question Ngonge? Is freedom of speech practised in its true form anywhere on this earth? **Mull over that** Journalists are there to provide us facts sax? If I were to take his piece as factual, I will come away from reading his piece that journalists in muslim countries are puppets. Not only puppets but "Muslim" puppets. That he believes he is being censored is evident but as to who exactly is the "community" that censors him is unclear. This is where you are telling me not to infer Islam. Excuse me if I can't tell the difference between Islam and Muslims. They are intertwined, one molds the other. The fact that his piece is littered with references of Islam and House of Islam and muslims doesn't clear up the misconception even a bit. His last sentence that promoting freedom of press would "trigger another clash of civilization" isolates the Muslim world. You and I both infer that he blames the tyranical governments/individuals and lets be honest even the democratic governments have limits to freedom of speech/press i.e During General Mccarthy's era you couldn't say you were gay if you were in the service, You can't criticize the IRA in Ireland, Thatcher nearly banned Spy catcher, China, Eritrea and India are by the far the worst violators of freedom of press. So what is Goth saying? I can only assume, and I don't mean to make an **** of myself, that he is singling out the governments. Are the governments backed by the divination? He didn't provide that detail but in my opnion insinuated it and my answer is still categorically that Islam has nothing to do with the lessening of freedom of press. That freedom of press is curtailed? Yes it is and has been for years. That it is an isolated problem? No, its not. The whole world suffers from it or suffered from it at one time or another. That I agree with his points? I agree to a certain limit and that was reached when he became subjective.

I would carry them (open toed sandals) along just in case you get the nice days like today 75 degrees, but I also recommend a good angora sweater and light fleece jacket/windbreaker for those chilly days. Our trees have already shed so its not as beautiful what do you guys do for fun? What do you guys do for eid? For real I dunno what people do for fun here. I guess it depends on what your idea of fun is. Don't go to somali mall unless you absolutely have to. During Eid, mornings are filled with rushing to prayers and come night there is about three different parties going on. Beats the purpose of Ramadhan if you ask me but if its your cup of tea be my guest. Hope that gave you some insight. Definately check out the mall of america (mn claim to fame) and get some shopping done!
  13. I see you didn't find the post. It was in the general section ya akhi Islamic censorship? I can say that I haven't being subjected to it. Bashir's piece was opinionated but I dare say the content says a lot about what the man stands for. I like the little derailment to the angels on your shoulder bit. The spin he put to it puts Bush to shame. Having said that, I would like to point out that journalist everywhere are being criticized about their standards. Bashir points out that perhaps its the religion that oppresses the journalist. I think its the lack of true journalism the allows tyrant (not religion) dictate what they can or cannot write. If Bashir was assured of Islam blotting out his articles why doesn't he quote religious text? There is a difference between what the religion stands for and what a government claiming to be religious stands for. I am willing to listen to his whinning if he can provide clear textual proof (from Islamic sources) that Islam censors him, otherwise he needs to change his stand to certain government and certain people censoring him. I am tired people confusing these bloody governments and tyrants to be epitome and symbols of Islam. They categorically are not!

Allahu Akbar! Dare I even point out how that statement is wrong in almost any level  Seriously, don't get yourself twisted and wrung out. Yes, charity begins at home and there is a reason behind why this is important. You can't expect to stand straight when someone keeps hacking your foot off. Simplistic as it may seem, it is core as to why the Ummah are where they are. Actions are called forth but there is no understanding (reasoning) behind it. Just blind and dare I say it dumb faith. That is why 6-12 months down the road the liberties taken away from a muslim community in the west are forgotten and life goes on. The world is a reflection of what you have become and what you are doing/not doing. Change and action should be first tackled from within then we can tackle the without **tryna rhyme** but you know what I am getting at. Ps:- I apologize for openin the flood gates but its been an awfully stressfull week. I will be back to obscure bystander hopefully by Sunday
  15. Can't you just access it from his website.....www.zaytunainstitute.com? He also has podcasts that you can download, absolutely love his topics. They are contemporary and informative and he sort of speaks to Z generation. I am trying to find the courage to take some of the courses he has at the institute inshallah.
  16. Yeeeeeeeeeey!!! I am glad you posted it BlueEpocha. I haven't gotten around to reading your reply to my suggestion.I am planning to print, laminate and stick it on my bulletin board of inspiration. Ps:- Mashallah!
  17. Originally posted by NGONGE: Lets not panic just YET , girls. He's got no problems with your bandanas I was reading between the lines He has the right to voice his opinion and I don't think muslims need to be jumping up and down. His reasoning is sound since it is just a personal opinion but then again wasn't the pope just using a quote? Jack holds a position of influence (I think) and therefore being the sheep that we are (all people) the ignorant among us will echo his sentiments. Maybe this is what makes one raise their eyebrows when they heard about the veil biz. As I remarked in another post, muslim countries are already banning either the influence of hijab or the hijab itself. I don't see any muslims calling for action against morrocco and tunisia, or are we that blinded that we don't see our arm is bleeding as we call attention to the wounds of the man next to us?
  18. I was wondering when this topic would surface. The culprit again is freedom of speech  He said something not PC and started the whole muslims are overemotionally about their religion. Seriously, it started in France then Denmark, now England with Morrocco tailgating banning pictures & verses from Quran abt veils from books. Even Tunisia is asking girls to take off the hijab at unis. If the Muslim countries can't protect the choice of the women to be veiled y are muslims so quick to jump down the throat of a country, where they are the minority, that voices its opinion against veils?
  19. Republicans are enjoying the majority in congress. Why would the speaker uncover the incident when in his hand is a golden egg. Knowing Foley's secrets (and this is personal conjucture) meant the speaker, come time to vote, was assured of his vote. I don't think it should matter none since elections are only a few weeks away. Maybe most people should vote independent just so not one party rules in the congress. Independents can tip the scale either way. Ps:- What you think of the conservative heavy Supreme court? There is talk they are going to be revising rulings from before about abortion and affirmative action to name but a few.
  20. I was wondering if there are any SOL members who were able to participate in the gitmo teaching going on today all over US (Via their school and satellite)? Most universities with law schools seem to be registered but I think it is open to any student not necessarily any law student. I definately recommend going to catch the broadcast and panel discussions. For more information or to see if your school is registered go to Guantanamo Bay Teach-In. I just got back from watching the section on the journalist and hopefully after tonite will be able to access the archives of the other panels, especially the one with human rights lawyers. Ps:- If you do go, grab a friend of yours who seem to know nothing about the going ons of their nation.
  21. Globalization at its best wouldn't you say? Saturated the world with americanism that the sports that were known as american (baseball and basketball) became a worldwide phenomena. Ryder cup: Europe has won the cup 4 out of 5 times. I just hate golf and therefore could care less especially now that u actually have to punt with a team.........I mean of all things. The game is slow enough as it is. As for football americans weren't that interested not good to begin with. Ok I will stereotype here but haven't most of the runners being of dark skin hue? So, really they r just proving Jefferson's theory...........(thats for another day). My point is US can't be good at everything all the time. Give US a break....they r already spread thin over the cracker as it is
  22. Shouldn't this post be waking up?

Go to any campus/school on US/UK and ask how many students actually either own a myspace, my facebook or Bebo. Even Japan has Mixi. In August, Myspace made a deal that allowed google to sell adspace on Myspace and Murdoch's other websites over a span of 3 years. Guess what the expected return is? $900 mill. **Dats a huge chunk of change**
  24. Can I have mine with a geel picture in the front? and off course a $10,000 limit.
