President Yusuf's Live speech at the crowning of the New King of Beesha D

^I meant the two 'large' Qabiil you speak of. -
Friday, November 28, 2008 MOGADISHU, Somalia (AP) — Ethiopia announced Friday that it will withdraw its forces from Somalia by the end of the year, leaving this country's weak and fractured government to face an increasingly powerful Islamic insurgency. Ethiopia — the region's military powerhouse — has sent thousands of troops to support Somalia's U.N.-backed government, which has failed to assert control over the country. The decision adds urgency to the Somali government's long-standing request for international peacekeepers to deploy here. "Regardless of what happens, we have decided to withdraw our troops from Somalia at the end of year," Ethiopian Foreign Ministry spokesman Wahide Bellay said Friday in a telephone interview from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Somali President Abdullahi Yusuf has asked for a U.N. peacekeeping force to replace a small African Union force that has largely been confined to its bases in the capital because of the violence. AU peacekeepers have struggled to maintain security, with only 2,600 of the mission's approved 8,000 troops on the ground. The U.N. Security Council has said that, if Somalia can improve security and political reconciliation, it would consider sending U.N. peacekeepers to replace AU forces. On Friday, Wahide urged the international community to send peacekeepers, but said Ethiopia would not wait any longer for such a force to be assembled. Rashid Abdi, a Somalia analyst at the International Crisis Group think tank, said the Ethiopians may have decided to seal the border with troops and air power. "They can ... continue to make military incursions across the border without troops on the ground who will be open to attack," he said. Somalia's transitional government was formed in 2004, but then lost control of the capital, Mogadishu, and most of the south to Islamic militants. In December 2006, it called in troops from neighboring Ethiopia to help retake control. But the insurgency remains a disruptive force and a threat to Yusuf's government. A worsening humanitarian crisis has been fueled by drought and high food prices. Ethiopia is a key U.S. ally and the Pentagon sent a small number of Special Operations troops with the Ethiopian forces in 2006. In early 2007 the U.S. conducted several airstrikes in an attempt to kill suspected al-Qaida members. Ethiopia is a traditional rival of overwhelmingly Muslim Somalia. It has large Christian and Muslim populations as well as one of Africa's largest armies, which many Somalis see as abusive and heavy-handed. Al-Shabab, which means "the Youth," mounts almost daily mortar attacks, suicide bombings and ambushes. SOURCE: AP, Friday, November 28, 2008

I just realized the roles people play in SOL is predictable. Supporters praised this man, and secessionists mocked, and I don't what to make A&T.Makes you wonder if Ayoub was in Qardho, would he be singing a different tune, and one could easily switch Duke with JB , the same dedication he would give, but of course for different cause. Opinions by virtue of where one was born... classic Duke..I will leave you alone. -

AfroGal is right about what men really think about

I think the point Horn was trying to make wasn't about flip flopping. It is just the idea of supporting Al-Shabaab who seeks an Islamic Emirate in the horn and Somaliland, a secessionist movement is oxymoron. Th east never sleeps. Have ever been to NY, Philly or Beantown-up all nite. I thought you were in MN?

Redsea-You are both in da same club. Now go to sleep, it's late.

Horrible a thing to say, it really doesn't bother me who or how many dies. CNN is already speculating Kashmirs, Muslim Jihadis. Hindu extremists are being ruled out.

Hyp or not, you can't stop what's making, hence one needs to evolve. They are stuck in stone age, only thing that changed is their soul became corrupted. P.S. I have no allegiance to any tribal elder. -

Stoic N Malika...Glad it didn't take over your mind. What puzzle me most about our people is not the hate as that's something we naturally used to, but it is lack of appreciatation for their own self interest. Surely after decades, one would atleast rethink the idea of blind loyalty to clan since it hasn't yielded anything tangible at individual or even the clan level. People in America don't necessarily care for each other, but they understand their interests are tied together, thus willing to work together for common interests. Their common interests outweigh their mutual distrust and hate. Most appreciate this simple understanding. LoooooooooooL@Geeljire Ibti...Right on the head, and from my perspective, I do believe people discount my experiences or pains. I found those who harm you don't grasp the extent of your pain or simply don't care. I learn to deal with it by moving on and let it go, but I realise sometimes it makes one less sympathetic to what 'others' are going through.Case in point, many people I personally know are not bothered by what's going in Xamar. This is solely out of the bitter experiences they had decade and half ago. The idea of using past injustices to turn blind eye to the current ones is troubling to say the least.

Surely most of us are affected by the civil and the anomisity that came with, and it is safe most Somali households are conducive to hate mongering. AfricaOwn...It is gotta be more than that. The Somali problem is multi-layered, and can't be explained by one thing. Ibti...Do you believe others downplay your own sufferings and your sincere beliefs about things or for matter your genuine opinions about issues of the pasts and current. Gheelle.T..I don't particularly talking about anyone, just general atmosphere of our people, I guess includes people on SOL including me.

G-G and Gheell.T..Let's not point fingers, solutions mates. AfricaOwn...I will bite. Where do you think their cuqdad stems from?. And please be specific. "They hate Somaliland" mantra is just very general. Nobody gets up one day, and decides to hate someone. Ibti...Good point, self recognition. I don't mean to put on the spot, but do you recognize some of those sypmtoms within you? Malika...Certainly, the civil has taken its toll on the Somalipsyche. How do you think it affected you as someone who grew up outside Somalia?
