  1. Donald won due a mix of sexism, racism and genuine economic concerns. The states that helped win include Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania. These were industrial heartlands of America (rusty belt) and largely populated by poor and middle class working whites who lost out due globalization (ironically spearheaded by republicans). These whites also feel their identity is under threat with the country becoming brown and their power waning. It used to be in 50s and 60s, a white guy working in a factory can easily buy a home, raise his kids and retire comfortably away from people of color in the inner cities. That's no longer true. The advancement in technology, women in workplace, waves of new immigrants (some of them very educated), losing cultural wars ( we are now talking transgender people using bathrooms according to their preferred gender) and globalization have undermined them. That said, it is easy to put them under one category, but the reality is some of these folks just need well paying jobs. A lot of these whites did vote for Obama in 2008 and 2012, It will be interesting four years. Democrats need to reflect deeply and get rid off the old guard. I would say one last thing, the sexism among the American right and even among liberals is deeply rooted. Some white men would rather vote for a black man than a white woman.
  2. What saddens me is that they don't see the potential of the people and country. Somali lands have the potential to be great economic centers. They are happy stealing pennies and building a little villa in some foreign country. That said, I guess these leaders are merely reflection of us, the people. We produced them after all.
  3. It seems we are assembling mini sample of Somali genealogy? Just to be sure, everyone who did or about to do this DNA analysis is an "ethnic" Somali. It will be interesting to see how diverse is our genetic pool! Blue, regarding the song, I thought the guy was saying al-Qaeda. Hehe.
  4. Galbeedi, Ethiopian troops are about to vacate Tayeeglow District, Abdiwali has become useless.
  5. With Ethiopia pulling most of troops from Central Somalia [They vacated Halgan today] and EU funding running low, it's not a sure bet. Pland's push for federalism might win in the end. p.s. There have been reports of infighting among Ethiopian soldiers in Ceelbuur. Apparently, Ethiopian troops are turning on each other, Oromo and Amhara soldiers killing their Tigray officers.
  6. Blue, my family is originally from Hawd and Mudug, all entirely ethnic Somalis. I think the question is who are the "ethnic Somalis" and how diverse is the genealogy. I will try the other service and see the result.
  7. Blue, I used ancestry.com. I know few other Somalis that did the test. The breakdown in terms of ethnic percentage was more or less similar. It is small sample, but I am beginning to believe are simple a mix of Bantu, North African and Middle Eastern.
  8. 47 percent Bantu (South Eastern Bantu) 39 percent Middle Eastern 12 percent North African 2 Percent others. The site links you with people that have familiar genealogy, most were Somalis and one person is half Oromo and half Somali. Mooge, I am related to reer Boqor.
  9. I am apparently a mix of Bantu, Middle Eastern and North African [berber]. Go figure. The test is basic, it is not very detailed.
  10. Added to this chaos, there is reported in the military. Oromo and Amhara soldiers are turning on Woyane officers. Many local police have simply switched sides.
  11. In the past few months, troops in the following locations were sent back to Ethiopia: Gal'ad. Burdhuhule. Garasweyne. Rabdhure. Budbud. Moqakori. Adan Yabal.
  12. Ethiopians vacated El-Ali, more to follow, reported in fighting among Ethiopian soldiers inside Somalia.
  13. Pland has the misfortune of being neighbor with people who are either crazy or simply irresponsible and erratic.
  14. Blue, it's almost guaranteed a Somali will have other ethnicity. I was surprised when I found out mine.
  15. By Ethiomedia October 10, 2016 HARAR, Eastern Ethiopia - A TPLF army commander in charge of major towns in Eastern Ethiopia has been shot dead by one of the soldiers under his command. Major Atsbeha Asghedom, chief of army operations in Harar, Haramaya, Awadai, and Dire Dawa, was killed by one of the Oromo soldiers under his command, according to an Amharic news report by journalist Kinfu Assefa. Meanwhile in Dilla town, capital of the protesting Gedeo zone, a police commander was killed by Agazi government security forces, local residents have told the media. Known for their cruel measures, the Agazi special security soldiers entered Dilla after the town went through three days of destruction to looting and burning, and summarily executed Mr. Kebede, the Gedeo zone police chief. The vicious attacks spearheaded by Gedeo citizens in Dilla, Wonago, and Fesseha Ghenet were aimed at attacking the Amhara and Guraghe people, and were directed to carry out the crimes by ruling party cadres, local sources said. The Amhara and Guraghe families have fled the area with many taking shelter in the wilderness. Agazi is at the moment taking extrajudicial measures, sources said, and its arrival in the town after three days of war and destruction was the create the feeling of a "savior" among the people, who already know that it was the government and ruling party that it was stirring ethnic hate and conflict in the country. Government and party officials fled the towns in Gedeo and were staying in Awassa, a major city in almost all of southern Ethiopia.
  16. Tallaabo, unfortunately this generation of Somalis are not blessed with those traits. So, it is better to have two or three stable Somali lands than one big failed Somalia. But I do hope Somalis unite in the long run, if not under one state but possibly integrate economically and politically, some sort of union with sovereignty.
  17. One would think you would welcome an Independent Somaliland
  18. Al-Shabab is not as strong as people make it out to be, they are just more organized and determined. Galmudug can stop; they just chose not to, let's be honest about that.
  19. Galbeedi, The Tigre is genuinely fearful of the Amhara, as crazy as it might sound Somalis and Tigre might be forced by necessity to be allies along with Afars (necessity does wonders sometimes), in other words numerically inferior nations that could be overwhelmed by Oromo and Amhara will have to swallow their pride and set their differences aside, at-least for awhile. There are moments that define history, in our case it was loss in 77, the coup, Barr'es attack on Mudug and Waqooyi Galbeed, and the night when northerners were rounded up and killed in cold blood. The event that took place today might be just moment for Ethiopia, You are right the shanta might finally be free though they might not be under one state. I can see Ileys exerting his power with the help of the Woyane, but where will the ONLF fit in this?
