  5. A Saudi kid in my class was making a presentation about women's right to employement in Saudi Arabia. As it is always the case, some one brought the issue of woman not being allowed to drive. The kid asserted that under Islam women are indeed not allowed to drive. Our professor jumped into the fray and countered by pointing out that they were no cars 14 hundred years ago. Seeing the silliness in the kid's argument, a white kid joined the rackus and ridiculed the Saudi kid by coming in with camel joke and proceeded to say "maybe they weren't allowed to ride camels back in the day". Instead of elaborating on the issue and make solid argument for his stance, the Saudi just relented and with no sense of sagaciousness passively agreed with old steroetype. He contended that the Quran and the Prophet (PBUH) banned women from riding camels and cars. And then argument turned on the kind person the Prophet was,and started explaining the life of the prophet and he started with this following line, " Mohammed (PHUB) was the son of God". That was the last straw. I had to rudely jumped in, and I spent the rest of his presentation time explaing Islam. Eventually the teacher had to cut us off so others could do their presentations. The point here, before we even talk about "modernising" Islam, one has to first know and understand the basic fundemental principles of their religion.

  8. People smugglers operating in north-eastern Somalia will face the death penalty, the region's leader has told the BBC. Over the past year, some 1,400 people are estimated by the United Nations to be missing, believed drowned, while trying to escape poverty and fighting. The boat people of the Horn of Africa set off from this bustling port of Bossasso on the Gulf of Aden. They hope to make the perilous two or three-day sea journey to Yemen. Dangerous journey Many of those that survive the voyage then go on to seek jobs in Saudi Arabia or other Gulf States. But thousands have drowned in the bright, choppy waters, often because they are pushed off the boats before the vessels make it to the Yemeni coast. And most can't swim. The travellers are mostly Somalis fleeing fighting in the southern parts of Somalia and people from neighbouring Ethiopia seeking refuge from a border war there. Northern Somalia is relatively stable compared with the war-torn region in the south around the capital Mogadishu, where the central government is fighting an Islamist insurgency. The authorities here in the north, who have declared a semi-autonomous region known as Puntland, want to stop the people smugglers. Puntland's President Mohammed Muse Hersi said the death penalty would henceforth be used against the human traders. He said he was tired of his relatively stable area being associated with the widespread fighting in the south of the country. He pointed to a new airport that is being built in Bossasso and the busy seaport here as evidence of economic progress in this part of Somalia.

  10. ^I supported the TFG when it was first formed. My support for them eventually dwindled as the TFG turned to be paper tiger, very weak and indecisive, not mention corrupt and no clear vision for the country. It takes no genius to understand the TFG was and is not the right thing for Somalia. Even with Ethiopian muscle and Yank dollars, they can't make any headway. And so for the courts, they were the first genuine Somali movement that brought peace in city that many thought could never be tamed. They have shown Somalis can and would change things. And my support for them simply stemmed from fact they were an effective organization that brought relief to the residents of Mogadisho. It is my belief that they could have done the same for the rest of the country. But it seems success went to their head. Instead of going on fishing expeditions, they should have been more pragmatic and established a functional goverment for Benadir first, and cleansed themselves from the likes of Indhacadde and riegn on Ayrow, Fuad, and their crew. I wouldn't even have minded them sitting down with the TFG, but in retrospect that would have futile attempt. And as of now, the Shabaab might be unyielding, but I believe they have the right to defend their faith, their people, and their lands.
  11. ^A Somali man fighting in his land to dislodge occupier is no terrorist. It is unfortunate these men were killed. Mistakes are bound to happen.
  12. ^Every Madhab has political undertone. Though Wahaabism can't considered another school of thought, it could be said that they are another Madhab in the context of Islamic politics. It is a jingoistic Arab movement masquerading Islamic movement.

  21. I saw few episodes, didn't really care for it.
  22. Juje...The man is unfortunate casualty of war. Resistance movements are bound to make mistakes and hopefully learned from them. I believe the Al Shabaab need to be more pragmatic and resort to attacking the big cats in the TFG and the actual Ethio foot soldiers instead of TFG low functionaries or men who are just trying to feed their families. The Shabaab are uncompromising in their stance, and for good reason. One has to have clear goal and vision if they are to succeed. They need to adapt and change their ways of doing things if they have the support of the ordinary Somalis.
  23. Alla Ha unaxariisto. Al Shabaab need change in their tactics.!!!!!
  24. LoooooooooooL...You seem irked Lazy. Your gal tried everything from being assertive to being conciliatory, but nothings seem to be sticking in people's minds. Now she is turning to politics that seems backfiring on her since it brings her judgment into question. Anyhow, Texas and Ohio is do or die for her.Even Bill admits her nomination depends on that. I don't see her winning those states convincingly that's if she wins at all.
