  2. Nice listings heres a couple of my favorites Although not a novel but this book is a must for anyone who wants to understand Somalia in the late 80's - though the author isn't quite neutral-.
  3. Nothing was good about those old days, the killings the displacements, the injustice, the armed struggle, living under the false 'unity' delusion. nothing good at all.
  4. "Well, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait , Iraq, Somalia, Egypt, Kenya are are real countries, while somali-diidland is clan faction Somalia is qaran, and your somali-diidland is qabiil, Big difference !!! True, life is tough, you need to smell the coffee and wake up, the whole world rejected to recognize the somali-diidland, you need to accept the reality that northwest somalia is still an integral part of Somalia. The vast majority of People of Somalia, particularly SSC people appreicate International community's commitment and unwavering support for the unity, territorial integrity and independence of Somalia. As well, the International community's total rejection of Somali-diidland clan faction and their misguided secession project SSC people don't want to be part of somali-diidland = snm mafia Somalia will stay united insha allah, one country, one people, One nation, one religion, one language, one flag" Dalmar you are contradicting yourself my friend you repeating over and over SSC which is stands for Sool Sanaag and 'cayn' region that is based solely on clans, Somaliland is not recognized but Somaliland has something that no other authority of the remains of 'Somalia' has and that is a National Identity -to some extent-, and colonial based borders same as Saudia Arabia, Kuwait and Iraq. Its given that Somaliland is has a Majority clan, but to say that the country is dominated by one clan you and I both know that Somali don't accept has proven a misconception - the president in office is my example- for a more relevant example police and army forces are not exclusive all are equally allowed to join. Using mocking names isn't that helpful in proving your point unless you are aiming to provoke resentment. p.s.: SNM has been disbanded for over 15 years I hope you are not confused about this fact.
  5. when tribal ties and modern borders clash, its well known who win in the end.

  11. Originally posted by 'Dalmar': People of SSC have more in common with Puntland than they have with Somalidiid, because SSC People are Puntlanders well life is tough you have learn to live with it, take the Harthi clan for example part are Saudi part Kuwaiti and part are Iraqi. and they are just doing fine.
  12. Originally posted by Mintid Farayar: Be careful, gentlemen, not to feed clan resentment. The Garaad, while somewhat misled in his beliefs, is still a Somalilander and holds an important cultural title in Somaliland. The administration thus far has handled this well by showing the futility of these anti-Somaliland 'feel-good' conferences while at the same time not escalating the situation. The Garaad, a relative young man for a traditional Garaad, spent much of his formative adult years at the feet of remnants of the past military dictatorship exiled in the U.S. This has shaped his geopolitical viewpoints. Reality will sink in and we'll eventually see him come home (to Somaliland) singing a different tune. But in the meantime, we should be careful that our words and actions do not increase the feeling of alienation both the Garaad and his supporters feel. Just my two cents. I second that well said
  13. fab bro puntland couldn't merge with Galmudug when they share a greater history and bond with them, same thing Somaliland has more in common with Djibouti and even Ogad.enia than it has with puntland. p.s. puntland has a greater chance in occupying Hargiesa than they do with Burco

Since he didn't make any exceptions I have to take what he actually said.
  16. First thing im a new member in SOL, I must say I was pleasantly surprised with how highly informed and refined members here are. I know there have topics made over this particular subject, but they were almost fall in the category of renouncing Qabiil, so I thought a neutral topic is needed to better grasp the matter in hand. Qabiil is considered by most Somali Intellectuals as the main reason behind all the troubles Somali society faces today, to get rid of it is the only solution for them to be able to prosper, all modern society were at some point tribes but they managed to move on and evolve into Civilizations. Yet Qabiil is interwoven with the Somali culture that all attempts to get rid of it or ignore it have failed utterly, and the fact that today countries consisting of different tribes and clans that live peacefully can be interpreted as Qabiil being a tool that can be used for good or bad. So if you believe that Qabiil is a Sickness what is your proposed remedy for it? but if you believe Qabiil is an essential character of the Somali people then what methods and procedures do you propose to employ it for the greater good?
