Got any other somali sites where they discuss such issues? Thanks Uma, I was going to refer you to SDN too, but I see you already know of it. You can click on the link provided by Kashafa which will take you directly to the Dentistry forum. You can ask your questions there. I'm sure you'll get a quick response by people in your field. Good Luck.

  4. I'm glad those long hours at work aren't spent sitting behind a computer. That would be killer. I'm usually standing when I have to do any work on the comp. as we have these flat monitor pc set on wheels aligning the halls ... you can also adjust them to your height... just pulling them around is annoying. It's only when I'm dead tired that I sit to use the computers in the main station. But I'm always worried for my back... with the all the lifting and pulling of bodies that's required... I always try to use proper body mechanics but I tend to forget when i'm in a hurry.
  5. All you can eat hilib ari? No way! I would boycott that restaurant. Didn't know there were that many somali rest. there. We didn't even see many Somalis in OT... everytime we saw a Somali...we're like, "oh there's a somali!" ...that's one, lol. And forget about seeing Somalis in Mtrl... we were glad to see any Muslims.

I'd love to see Montreal again tho and hopefully spend more than 2 hrs there this time. We were just roaming centre ville Montreal yesterday..it was gorgeous! The people are friendly too. Somehow we ended up in the suburbs and we wanted to get back to the highway to go downtown and we stopped to ask this man for directions. Surprisingly he greeted us with "Salaama alaikum." I think that was the only thing he pronounced correctly. He sat on the floor to draw the map for us and explain the directions. He even told us of masjid that was around the area..."there is a big moslem place for you ladies" ... All I can say for Mtrl is... man, I wish I had retained some of the french I learned in school. Bonjour and Merci beaucoup don't cut it Sooma, What's this Sambuza village? I didn't think Ottawa had any Somali restuarants other than Zamzam.
  7. I used to think anyone over 35 to be old...but I reconsidered that after I turned 20. Then I concluded anyone 50+ was old, but I didn't like my uncle jokingly calling my dad old at only 54, so once again, I moved up the age, now anyone 65+ is old in my book. But it's a different story where I work. Apparently 65 isn't that old after all ... it's just anyone that's over 70 and unable to do their own care that's labelled old.
  8. Very nice...when was it built? I don't remember seeing that mall the last time I was in Ohio. Jomaana, Nothing beats Toronto.... I almost kissed the ground too when I got back from Ottawa yesterday

  10. Bambina, Somalis are getting with the program now. The last few conferences I've attended, they had a designated area for the children and volunteers to babysit them and keep them entertained (God bless them, coz some of those kids were a handful).
  11. ^^ Yeah, it's Friday again...but I'm not in a Friday mood. What's a Friday without free weekend from work?
  12. Dawaco that was beautiful. Happy Birthday Juxa! (Sorry, I'd have written a poem too but I'm creatively challenged)
  13. Aamiin to the ducas. Allaha caafiimaad siiyo.

  16. After stopping for drinks at an illegal bar, a Zimbabwean bus driver found that the 20 mental patients he was supposed to be transporting from Harare to Beltway had escaped. Not wanting to admit his incompetence, the driver went to a nearby bus stop and offered everyone waiting there a free ride. He then delivered the passengers to the mental hospital, telling the staff that the patients were very excitable and prone to bizarre fantasies. The deception wasn't discovered for 3 days. ********************** An American teenager was in the hospital yesterday recovering from serious head wounds received from an oncoming train. When asked how he received the injuries, the lad told police that he was simply trying to see how close he could get his head to a moving train before he was hit. ************************ A mother took her daughter to the doctor and asked him to give her an examination to determine the cause of her daughter's swollen abdomen. It only took the doctor about 2 seconds to say, "Your daughter is pregnant." The mother turned red with fury and she argued with the doctor that her daughter was a good girl and would never compromise her reputation by having sex with a boy. The doctor faced the window and silently watched the horizon. The mother became enraged and screamed, "Quit looking out the window! Aren't you paying attention to me?" "Yes, of course I am paying attention ma'am. It's just that the last time this happened, a star appeared in the East, and three wise men came. And I was just checking. *************************** When his 38-calibre revolver failed to fire at its intended victim during a hold-up in Long Beach, California, would be robber James Elliot did something that can only inspire wonder: He peered down the barrel and tried the trigger again. This time it worked. ********************************** The chef at a hotel in Switzerland lost a finger in a meat-cutting machine and, after a little hopping around, submitted a claim to his insurance company. The company, suspecting negligence, sent out one of its men to have a look for himself. He tried the machine out and lost a finger. The chef's claim was approved. *************************************** A passenger in a taxi tapped the driver on the shoulder to ask him something. The driver screamed, lost control of the cab, nearly hit a bus, drove up over the curb, and stopped just inches from a large plate glass window. For a few moments everything was silent in the cab, then the driver said, Please, don't ever do that again. You scared the daylights out of me." The passenger, who was also frightened, apologized and said he didn't realize that a tap on the shoulder could frighten him so much, to which the driver replied, "I'm sorry, it's really not your fault at all. Today is my first day driving a cab. I have been driving a hearse for the last 25 years.

    Tattoo removal

I was just reading about this yesterday while waiting @ the Docs office. Think about excision, where the tattoo is removed with a scalpel and the wound is stitched up (Ouch!) But as Zu said laser removal is prolly the best option. But it's more effective with black ink than it is with colourful tattoos. Removal of tattoos is not covered by medical insurance, so it's going to be costy procedure...depending on the size and type...you could be paying up to thousands of dollars.
  18. Inaa lilaahi wa innaa ilayhi raajicuun... Sis, I'm so sorry to hear this. I can only imagine what you're going through now. May Allah grant your dear father jannah and give you and your family the strength to cope with this difficult loss.
  19. At this moment I feel so drained. I'm sleepy - and I can't get to sleep for another 4 hrs. Time is going so slooow....when will this shift end? I also feel quite old....another yr, another bday. But on a brighter note... I'm relieved there's no ttc strike - for today anyways. I can finish things at own pace, no need to worry about the unexpected happening and making my ride wait an hour or so...

    Shisha

I've always wondered, what's the difference between this Shisha and regular smoking - other than the way it's smoked. Doesn't the Shisha contain tobacco? And isn't it harmful to your health, therefore making it haram?
  21. Originally posted by Shyhem: Taking Caffeine during pregnancy significantly contributes to AD&D (Attention,Deficiet and disorder) in u'r future babies. Sorry, don't mean to derail your topic...but where'd you hear that? I thought it was smoking that had that effect - not caffeine. Just curious.
  22. Masha allah, you guys are an inspirition to many people. Keep it up. As for me, it probably wouldn't make a difference if I pushed my Manager to allow me few mins out of the shift to pray, because in the end, it comes down to my colleagues. I can't leave the floor unless someone is covering for me...so we have to coordinate care. I'll ask whoever is working next to me to cover me few mins. And it works out well because, I don't mind having her back when she goes down for her little smoking sessions ..or 'respiratory therapy' as they like to call it. Does that count as a euphemism?
