^^ When I noticed how many weddings took place in the hotel I was staying in recently, I actually did think about opening a shop in H town. Of course, I would have hoped a young girl (or a female at least) would have already had the idea of selling luxury lingerie for all these endless brides but since none did, it may as well be me (or Normode; if the owners are reading THIS).
  3. ^^ War I'm not talking about the HE-girl, I'm talkin about Alpha & Carafaat.
  4. Sounds like there was a lover's tiff in PM!
  5. Yunis;841245 wrote: Too bad Ms Claire came from the poor & the disadvantage of UK. but, wipe your crocodile tears. From the mid 1650's to 1780 over 70% total of UK government income came directly from its African or Caribbean colonies. Slave labour & sweat also transformed the economy of dark-age Brian, building museums in London, glasgow, industries of plantation cotton, and rail roads...etc. Somalis reaping the benefits of generous social welfare system in Uk, is a small amount of reparation and avenge on Ms Claire's country. Very juvenile argument there, Yunis. At any rate, the woman should not blame Somalis, she should blame the system (if the system is wrong).
  6. ^^ No, they returned the thousand dollars but kept the other stuff. Cumaamad baa so celisay, saaxib.
  7. Carafaat, are you not watching the football saaxib? What's with pictures of people kissing and other teenage nonesense ninyaho? p.s. War kubbada dhaawo dee. Even A&T (mostly) watches it for this:
  8. ^^ Yes and they would have walked out. Plus I doubt a mere cumaamad and thousand dollars would have brought them back.
  9. ^^ If this thread took place in Istanbul....

Jb, go back and take another photo, saaxib. The angle for this one is not very flattering. p.s. Carafaat, look here: http://www.somaliaonline.com/community/showthread.php/10835-Going-to-a-Wedding/page3?highlight=wedding
  11. ^^ War heestaan aad ii qaaday anigo hore o maan maqal! If you are right, why did his CLAN make the protest? Why didn't any of the others join them in walking out or be the first to complain? Dee naga daa, saaxib. Waa wax la cuno, waa macaan, waa 'yellow', waa nooc men al geed; hadana waxaad i leedahay 'moos' maaha? Qandalawi, When I need to explain something to someone I always try to make it relevant to them (it makes more sense that way). Hence, I reminded you of the PL elders hissyfit in the Somali captial not so long ago (they even issued a communique at the time). Build on what you already know, Qandalawi. Don't be a Somali who is forever starting from scratch. We already know that Somalia has a clan system. We know that this system is so strong that it had its own position in politics (with 4.5). We know that the elders sent to Turkey went there in groups representing various clans. We know WHY they were there and know that every group was/is ardently in support of its own leaders (in your case, Faroole. In the case of the topic at hand, Sakiin). None of this is new. Now, you know and I know that despite the smiles and jokes no Somali meeting is free of mistrust and one-upmanship. We also know that the 'tolaay' shout is one sneeze away. For the lady to use an insulting title when talking about Sharif Sakiin (even though we all use it and maybe even some member of his clan also do) is for her to throw the gauntlet down to these elders and see if they'll beat (Somalis ALWAYS bite). Worse still, for the others to clap rather than stop, only goes to strengthen the feeling of overall attack on the 'clan'. Therefore, the elders did the only thing any Somali elders would do in such a situation. They stood up and made a point of it. They got their apology and, more importantly, they set a precedent for future Somali dealings. It is clan politics, saaxib. Always was and always will be. Wax fahan.
  12. Qandalawi;841024 wrote: ^Stop applying the silly logic of 'Clan is Everything' in every situation. We know clan matters a great deal to Somalis but this was unnecessary and a foolish move the D&M elders. Wee isceebeeyeen Odayaashan. The last time I checked the duties of a Somali elder, it did not constitute defending a member of the clan from 'Caay' or even worse storming and making a walkout on a Somali conference. That's not the duty and the purpose of a Somali elders. In Somali situations, Clan is everything. I can only explain things to you, saaxib. I can't force you to listen. At any rate, if these elders were (only) Somali, how about your (PL) elders and the way they all went back to Garowe (before the conference)? Were they too "Somali" elders or were they PL elders? Why do you approve it for your lot to stand up for the interests of the clan but when it's another group of elders doing the same for theirs, you talk about 'silly' or 'foolish' moves? After all, qoladaan wax cusub la may iman; ku dayo, ku dayo uun ba iska aheed.
  13. Not at all! (I can't view videos at work).
  14. Showqi;840375 wrote: Xaaji, Siyaad Bare (AUN) barigii uu noola wali cid ugu yeedha Afweyne mushtamaca dhexdiisa oo aan talaabo sharci ah laga qaadin miyaad maqashay. Afka suuqa lagaga hadlo iyo dacaayada ma'aha in aad keento shirarka muhiimka (Sakiin macnaheedu waa nin Khaayin ah) That's not the point, Showqi. The point is that all these poeple went there in accordance to the 4.5 system. They were not there as Somali old men, they were there as representitaves of Sakiin's clan. Therefore, when a speaker makes fun of a member of their clan and the rest of the old men (representing other clans) laugh and clap, it stands to reason that these old men would protest and walk out. To remain silent is to encourage a sort of 'ganging up' on their man. AGAIN, remember, the only reason these old men are there in the first place is because of their positions in the clan and their duty to protect the interests of the clan. (you may disagree with the system itself, you may not like it but them are the rules of engagment here).
  15. Just watched the video. Can't see what the fuss is all about. The boys sound reasonable and the girl is grown up. Sounds like 'dhaqan celis" works.
  16. ^^ It's unfortunate that they have to meet in foreign lands but the basic problem is the same, saaxib. Don't be fooled by SL's gurti or what not. Had it been an SL meeting and a speaker uttered the same words about a Siilaanyo, Riyaale or any of the other names associated with clans they too would have had a walk out (even inside SL). The only difference in SL is that they harnessed the clan system a little but the clan system exists nonetheless. p.s. Did you not read about the "historical" book some guy in Hargeisa wrote? He was arrested because some argue that he insulted some clans in his book (and this is BEFORE any applause or otherwise). Here: http://www.somaliaonline.com/community/showthread.php/65457-Sillyland-Buug-Ka-Sheekaynaya-Isirka-Somalidu-Xagay-Kasoo-Kala-Jeedaan-Oo-Qorihii-Buuga-Xabsiga-L
  17. N.O.R.F;840179 wrote: It doesn't and wouldn't happen in SL. That was a huge over reaction. I dread to think what its actually like trying to get these guys to agree on anything. Wouldn't happen in SL? Which SL is that, the one that just arrested a guy who wrote a book with some stories about clans? War it happens in all SOMALI areas. From a "clan is everything" prespective, these old men did the right thing.
  18. ^^ The reaction would have been the same had it been Somaliland, Norf. Clan Is EVERYTHING. Abwaan;840155 wrote: Lol....siduu maskaxda uga haysto ayaanba layaabay Shariif Sakiin...and she immediately said raalli halla iga agaado. Yaab badanaa! Waxa Soomaalida qaar ku eedeeyaan Shariif bayba run u ekeysiinayaan oo ah inuu isagu meesha kensaday. They went there representing their clan and it's understandable that they'll get upset when the woman made that comment. It's not about being brainwashed by the Sharif, it's about representing the team. Any of the others would have done the same if it were one of their own. 4.5, warya, 4.5. Wax fahan.
  19. I can vouch for the "taking them everywhere comment". Three times he phoned me and three times he kept stopping the conversation to have a word with the noise behind him. Heh. Well done to the kids. Of course, I reckon A&T is overplaying his part in this though. Most of it is probably down to the kids and their mother anyway.
  20. ^^ Surprised they don't get exported to Somalia. Surely it'll work out cheaper than the Japanese second hand cars they have there!
