  5. Mike Pompeo to Saudi Arabia: End Qatar blockade US secretary of state urges Riyadh to end blockade, as it enables Iran to exploit Gulf disunity, US officials say. 2 hours ago Pompeo arrived in Riyadh on his second full day as US secretary of state [Saudi Press Agency via Reuters] On his first trip as the United States' top diplomat, Mike Pompeo is imploring Saudi Arabia to end the blockade against Qatar, which has been in place since June 2017. US officials told reporters that the US secretary of state would urge Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and King Salman to resolve the Gulf crisis in a series of meetings on Saturday and Sunday. Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Bahrain and Egypt, cut diplomatic, trade and travel ties with Qatarnearly one year ago, accusing the country of supporting "terrorism". Doha strongly denies the charge. US President Donald Trump initially appeared supportive of the Saudi-led initiative, while Pompeo's predecessor, the recently removed Rex Tillerson, blamed Saudi Arabia and its allies for the stalemate in resolving the crisis. Officials said Pompeo called for an end to the blockade because the US believes it has enabled Iran to exploit disunity in the Gulf by enhancing its influence in Yemen and Syria, the Associated Press news agency reported. Pompeo arrived in Riyadh on the heels of a missile attack by Houthi rebels that killed one person in Jizan, southern Saudi Arabia, on Saturday. Senior US officials said they blame Iran for smuggling the missiles into Yemen. Speaking on the condition of anonymity, US officials told reporters the administration is seeking to counter Iran's missile programmes as part of a strengthened Iran nuclear deal, formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). Trump has previously said he will withdraw the US from the JCPOA - which he has called the "worst deal in history" - unless "a better option" is presented to him by May 12, which is when the US president faces a deadline to decide whether or not to renew the agreement's prescribed sanctions relief for Iran. Pompeo was sworn in as the US top diplomat on Thursday and flew to Brussels for a visit to NATO's headquarters on his full day in the job. On Saturday, he started a brief tour of the Middle East. During his visit to Saudi Arabia, the former CIA director also urged the kingdom to give Yemen access to humanitarian and commercial goods, the New York Times reported. Pompeo will depart Saudi Arabia for Israel on Sunday for a meeting with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and will visit Jordan afterwards.
  6. Pompeo’s Message to Saudis? Enough Is Enough: Stop Qatar Blockade By GARDINER HARRISAPRIL 28, 2018 Secretary of State Mike Pompeo was met by the Saudi foreign minister, Adel Al-Jubeir, upon his arrival in Riyadh. CreditSaudi Press Agency, via Reuters RIYADH, Saudi Arabi — As Saudi Arabia considers digging a moat along its border with Qatar and dumping nuclear waste nearby, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo arrived in Riyadh on his first overseas trip as the nation’s top diplomat with a simple message: Enough is enough. Patience with what is viewed in Washington as a petulant spat within the Gulf Cooperation Council has worn thin, and Mr. Pompeo told the Saudi Foreign Minister, Adel al-Jubeir, that the dispute needs to end, according to a senior State Department official who briefed reporters on the meetings but who was not authorized to be named. Last June, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates led an embargo by four Arab nations of Qatar, accusing the tiny, gas-rich nation of funding terrorism, cozying up to Iran and welcoming dissidents. Years of perceived slights on both sides of the conflict added to the bitterness. Mr. Pompeo’s predecessor, Rex W. Tillerson, spent much of his tenure trying to mediate the dispute, which also involved Egypt and Bahrain, but without success. The Saudis, keen observers of Washington’s power dynamics, knew that Mr. Tillerson had a strained relationship with President Trump and so ignored him, particularly because Mr. Trump sided with the Saudis in the early days of the dispute. But Mr. Pompeo is closer to Mr. Trump and thus a more formidable figure. And in the nearly 11 months since the embargo began, Qatar has spent millions of dollars on a Washington charm offensive that paid off earlier this month when its leader, Emir Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, had an Oval Office meeting with Mr. Trump during which the president expressed strong support for the tiny country. So Mr. Pompeo came here to deliver the same message to Mr. Jubeir at an airport meeting Saturday afternoon; to Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman later that night; and to King Salman in a meeting planned for Sunday: Stop. Confronting Iran, stabilizing Iraq and Syria, defeating the last of Islamic State, and winding up the catastrophic civil war in Yemen are seen in Washington as increasingly urgent priorities that cannot be fully addressed without a united and more robust Arab response. Mr. Pompeo arrived in Riyadh on the same day that Houthi forces in Yemen shot eight missiles at targets in the southern Saudi province of Jizan, killing a man. The fusillade was the latest sign that Yemen’s blood bath is a growing threat to the region. The vast humanitarian crisis in Yemen has become such a keen concern on Capitol Hill that influential senators have begun discussing restrictions on arms sales to Saudi Arabia. That would undercut other administration priorities, including an effort to increase such sales as well as attempts to get the Saudis to play a more active role in stabilizing Syria and opposing Iran. Poor targeting by the Saudis in airstrikes, as well as the kingdom’s blockade of Yemeni ports, have done much to worsen the humanitarian situation in Yemen, and Mr. Pompeo told Mr. Jubeir on Saturday that Yemen must have easy access to humanitarian and commercial goods, along with fuel, the State Department official said. Mr. Pompeo also came to the Middle East to discuss the Iran nuclear accord, which most observers believe President Trump will rip up on May 12, his self-declared deadline for deciding on a deal he has described as “the worst ever.” On Sunday, Mr. Pompeo is scheduled to arrive in Jerusalem for talks with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel. Then he will head to Amman, Jordan, for discussions with King Abdullah. President Emmanuel Macron of France and Chancellor Angela Merkel of Germany both came to Washington this past week to urge Mr. Trump to preserve the Iran accord. Mr. Trump has vowed that, regardless of what happens to the nuclear accord, Iran will not restart its nuclear program, something Iranian officials have said they may do if the United States abandons the deal. Mr. Trump has also vowed to pull American forces out of the Middle East’s grinding conflict in Syria, asking other countries to bear more of the burden. Whether the United States succeeds in persuading allies to do more there, while telling the Saudis to back down over Yemen and Qatar, is far from certain. And how the Iranians view Mr. Trump’s threats while he pulls troops away from Syria is also unclear. On Monday, Mr. Pompeo will return to Washington to help Mr. Trump prepare for a risky summit with the leader of North Korea, Kim Jong-un, whom Mr. Pompeo met on a secret trip to Pyongyang over Easter weekend.

The ethiopians have opened the flood gate, one time stop water, and the other time flood, as it suits, it is like Bangladesh,
  10. Trump is right, they will not last a week, if US were not involved, KSA/UAE are losing in Yemen, with all the brute force.
  11. 100% agree with you, have lots of Pakistani co-workers, and some friends, They are extremely angry and hate what UAE is doing to their country. But I think they cannot stop Pakistan, they are more dangerous to us, since we have shameless, mentally challenged, narrow-minded, cannot see big pic, and corrupted leaders, and as UAE minister said, ""most SOMALI leaders have a price, and we can afford it", we have a problem. This Pakistani minster was being paid over $20K+ per month for almost 8 years by UAE, and when he was no use any longer, exposed.
  12. Brother, don't be so cynical, the county is coming back from hell, and SOMALIS took their country there. It is baby steps, Welcome this and see as great news. And Always see back we came from, 10 years , 15, 20 years back. Of course, There is BIG room for improvement.
  13. Big blow to PML-N, Khawaja Asif disqualified for life Listen ISLAMABAD: In another blow to PML-N, Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif has been disqualified by the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on the basis of holding an Abu Dhabi Iqama (work permit). On April 10, an IHC larger bench had reserved its judgment in a matter where a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Usman Dar sought disqualification of the federal minister on the basis of work permit. Justice Athar Minallah heading the three-member bench, read out the order disqualifying the foreign minister under Article 62(1)(f). Justice Aamer Farooq and Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani were the other members of the bench. "We declare that the Respondent was not qualified to contest the General Election of 2013 from NA 110 as he did not fulfill the conditions described under Article 62(1)(f) of the Constitution, read with section 99(1)(f) of the Act of 197," the judgement stated. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s Usman Dar filed this petition seeking disqualification of Asif for concealing the facts that he was an Iqama holder, legal advisor of a company in UAE and his recent labour card was issued on June 29, 2017. Khawaja Asif on the other hand took a view that he concealed nothing and his Iqama was declared in the nomination paper. The petitioner adopted that Supreme Court on July 28 disqualified former Prime Minister Mian Nawaz Sharif for possessing an ‘Iqama’ and Khawaja Asif can also be disqualified on similar grounds. The bench had reserved the verdict, however, it allowed the parties to submit additional documents if they have. Khawaja Asif on April 16 submitted a letter of an Abu Dhabi company where he is employed. After the verdict, joyous Dar dedicated his victory to the people of Sialkot and PTI Chairman Imran Khan. "I had decided to throw Kh Asif out of the parliament and today I have done this," he further said. As per the letter presented in the court, Khawaja Asif’s job with International Mechanical & Electrical Co. WLL. is quite flexible and there are no conditions on him to stay there in Abu Dhabi. The company can seek his legal advice via telephone or whenever he comes to UAE. Managing Director of the company, Elias Salloum, has expressed that he is ready to come before any court in Pakistan. After the order, Kh Asif told Hamid Mir that he would challenge the verdict in the apex court. "I am hopeful of getting relief from the SC," said the minister. 'Fixed match' While PTI was overjoyed, Maryam Nawaz on the other hand said Khawaja Asif was disqualified in a “fixed match”. “Whoever you are certain you cannot defeat in a fair match, you get them disqualified through a fixed match,” she tweeted. 'Iqama used to shield corruption' Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan said that Khawaja Asif has been disqualified for 'using iqama to shield corruption & indulge in money laundering'. In his response on the disqualification, the PTI chief said: "Another darbari of the Godfather disqualified on the same pattern - using iqama to shield corruption & indulge in money laundering - as well as being guilty of brazen conflict of interest". "Allah Al Haq hai - Kh Asif targeted SKMTH & has been publicly humiliated here & abroad," he tweeted.
