  1. It can be difficult for women to join the political process in Somalia as there is no direct involvement of the masses in decision making. However, I do not understand why the women of Somaliland cannot put their political house in order and get behind women candidates for the councils, parliament, and the presidency. They should remember the fact the women control 50% of the eligible votes in the country. I hope someone starts a feminist party in Somaliland soon.
  2. Whatever the past deeds or political ambitions of this shiekh were, it is between him and his Lord. But in this lucture, the guy spoke the truth and that is what matters.

I'm not interested in debating my faith with people who don't believe because you're not interested in my Islamic perspective and I'm not interested in yours, so there is no point in going around in circles and disrespecting each other, is there? 5. This is a great news but I hope those beautiful old houses in the town are spared destruction. They are what make Marka romantic.
  6. I find this business of tribalising Somali culture and heritage distasteful. Our Somali culture and our cultural icons have no boundaries and belong to no particular group, therefore they should be respected as such. I am sure no Somali poet, playwright, artist, or an author would like his/her significance and influence reduced to a tiny region. These professionals want bigger audiences and markets and not clan villages. The entire Somali population was already insignificant compared to the home markets available to most foreign cultural icons including those from our neighbouring countries. Folks please don't bring back this thread again, it should disappear into the back pages.
  7. I don't think Somali poems can be translated into another language. That will just ruin their beauty and meaning.
  8. I wonder why the Swedes never consider our great poets for the Nobel Prize in Literature. They are so Euro-centric contrary to what Alfred Nobel wished. I think they once considered Nuuradin Faarax for the prize but he writes in English.
  9. It is not funny JB. The woman is probably shell shocked from her experience of that savage attack and needs sympathy not mockery.

  11. ^^ I knew the NGO profiteers get the lion's share of the funds but at least some reach the needy in our country.

  14. What is wrong with you folks? NGOs help the needy people. If you two can give some of your earnings to Somaliland's needy, then I will join your campaign against the NGOs.

  16. ^^ I don't think this is Somaliland. SOL botanists please look up these plants and tell us the location of their habitats to prove or disprove JB's photo.

Bad mouthing is going to change the reality on the ground. Its good to see reer waqoyi getting back into the political system, I never liked how they have been on the bench for most of somalias recent history. Perhabs after Abdiwelis 2 terms we will see a waqoyi president. No I do not like to bad mouth Puntland, I have no reason for doing that. That comment was just a trick to get your lot shouting.
  20. *Ibtisam;860237 wrote: Oh the big bad Sheeko. Alright then. you need to take some gaint tallaabo into reality my friend. Somaliland version of not settling for sheek ciyaal is going at it alone- its the only way they can have a piece of the pie without all the chest beating of the clan system. Of course Somaliland and Somalilanders know that and only deluded ones waste money and time trying to compete for presidency and speaker in the Xamar. Although succession gets rid of much of the competition for Somaliland's major clans, its not of course the real reason why we had taken our own separate political path.
  21. ^^ No I am not joking because unlike the 1960 fiasco the shiikha maydh clan would not settle for sheeko ciyaaleed but would demand a political system based on one-man-one vote.
  22. ^^ Somaliland's major clan would not be small if the former Republic is reunified. Hargeisa alone unlike Puntland's villages boasts more than a million inhabitants. And economically, Mogadishu would be at our mercy too. Our much sought after tax revenues would translate to power. But we do not want a clan tug of war all over again, let them keep all their political posts till the end of time.
  23. Apophis;860209 wrote: This whole discussion is absurd. A woman was attacked for singing a few (of key) songs and we're debating as if there is a debate. It was an immoral and illegal act from the perspective of any right thinking person. Stop making excuses. An attack on a Somali woman so publicly by a mindless gang of Somali men not only warrants serious discussion but calls for soul searching by our entire race. This crime is an indication of a rotting house.

Qudhac;860155 wrote: moonlight excuse me sheep feet are not comparable to henious and discusting practice of eating waraabe, do you know that hyena gorges on dead and rotting flesh when a hyena bite an animal the animals bite wound become infected with lethel flesh eating bacteria and it has to ambutated or the infected flesh has to be removed. hyenas carry severall deadly diseases for humans such as iboli virus. all those who come from somalia must quarentined if they ever cross the border into somaliland. in order to avoid the outbreak of diseases. You are dramatising this whole thing Mr Qudhac. I still don't believe Somalis would eat hyena meat. These pictures and videos could be a spoof and those who made them probably were after the hyena for its skin in order to export it as charcoal export is banned by the UN.
  25. Barbarian foqal barbarian!! How could they attack a woman like that just for her political views?? The Somali people's reputation and values are fast disappearing into the drain. May Allah help us.
