In this writing, I will highlight some, not all, of the shocking and inhumane acts by ONLF (the terrorist group who cowardly operate in the Somali region in Ethiopia) against the very people whose independence they claim are fighting for. The ONLF’s aims have varied over time, fighting against uniformed troops, to killing members of their own community as well as other inhabitants of the region. Recently, ONLF raided a small town of Gole in Wardheer region. In testimony of their lack of morality, they (ONLF; a terrorist group) not only terrorized residents of Gole, but indiscriminately murdered seven people and wounded two, while kidnapping two others. On May 28, 2007, a grenade attack by ONLF, claimed the lives of eleven Somalis during a national holiday ceremony held in Jijiga, the capital of the Somali region. In a separate attack, the regional president Abdullahi Hassan was injured with fifty innocent civilians. Among those who lost their lives as result of ONLF attack were three local artists and other civilians as well. It’s worth mentioning, the horrific attack by ONLF on the town of Dobawayn in Korahey region which also left ten civilians dead, including two schoolteachers and a pregnant woman. Unfortunately, that’s not all; on another attack on the town of Shilabo left five people dead. Meanwhile, a landmine planted by ONLF near Aware in Dagahbour region exploded, killing three civilians traveling in automobile. Yet, on another act against humanity, ONLF massacred twelve people in the district of Lahelow near by the Ethiopia-Somali border. ONLF has carried out horrendous human rights violations, including the execution style killings of innocent civilians. Through such acts, it has also gravely violated the principal of Islam which vehemently rejects the killing, robbing, raping and any thing inflicts harm against innocent human being. Little was known about ONLF in the past, but they are being exposed to the international community’s eyes, by not other than their own ugly and merciless actions against the men, women and children in the region who simply want to live in a peaceful environment. ONLF is enemy to the region and therefore, the international community should give the local people the capability to defend themselves from the enemy amongst them. Their mind is filled with hatred and ignorance. Killing, rapping and robbing of innocent people is not an act of bravery, rather, is an act of inhumane, reckless and most of all, is one of the greatest sins that is committed by any individual. No cause justifies the massacres of Gole, Lahelow, Shilabo, Dhobawayn, Jijiga and many other areas in the region as well. Therefore, the world should condemn ONLF and its actions to the fullest term. Particularly the West, must prohibit the ONLF leaders and agents to operate and plan attacks against the people of the Somalia in region, from their respective countries. Abdirahman I. Hargeisa(Qaran)-The President of the Republic of Somaliland, Mudane Daahir Riyaale Kaahin met with a delegation from Norway at the presidential offices in Hargeisa. The delegation which consisted from members of the Norwegian business sectors, and in particular from the oil and natural gas fields are on a visit to Somaliland. Speaking at the meeting, President Riyaale expressed his pleasure at receiving this delegation from Norway which in the President's words " are from a nation which has shown strong support for Somaliland and has been always ready with much needed assistance". President Riyaale went on to mention that Somaliland welcomes Norwegian expertise in order to explore and utilise the natural resources of the country. Mudane Riyaale reminisced on his two visit to Norway, in which he had first hand experience at the capacity of the Norwegian oil and gas industry. The President stated that this expertise can only play a great role in strengthening the current relationship between Somaliland and Norway. Responding to the President's opening remarks, Mr. Jerand Rystad, a member of the Norwegian delegation, and representing the Oil and Gas sector, thanked the people and the government of Somaliland for the warm welcome and hospitality extended to the delegation. Mr.Rystad gave a brief summary of the delegation itinerary during their visit to Somaliland which includes assessing the needs of the nations in terms of business and social development projects. Attending the meeting were the Somaliland Representative to Norway, Mudane Maxamed Maxamud Axmed (Lenin) and Mudane Siciid Maxamud Axmed, the chairperson of the Somaliland Community in Norway.

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- A U.S. destroyer has entered Somali territorial waters in pursuit of a Japanese-owned ship loaded with benzene that was hijacked by pirates over the weekend, military officials said Monday. The guided-missile destroyer USS Arleigh Burke entered Somali waters with the permission of the troubled transitional government in Mogadishu, U.S. officials said. In recent years, warships have stayed outside the 12-mile limit when chasing pirates. The ongoing operation was confirmed to CNN by two military officials familiar with the details. Gunmen aboard two skiffs hijacked the Panamanian-flagged Golden Mori off the Socotra archipelago, near the Horn of Africa, said Andrew Mwangura, a spokesman for Kenya's Seafarers' Assistance Programme. The Golden Mori radioed for help Sunday night. The Burke's sister ship, the USS Porter, opened fire and sank the pirate skiffs tied to its stern before the Burke took over shadowing the hijacked vessel. When the shots were fired, it was not known the ship was filled with highly flammable benzene. U.S. military officials indicate there is a great deal of concern about the cargo because it is so sensitive. Benzene, which U.S. authorities have declared a known human carcinogen, is used as a solvent and to make plastics and synthetic fabrics. U.S. and NATO warships have been patrolling off the Horn of Africa for several years in an effort to crack down on piracy off Somalia, where a U.N.-backed transitional government is struggling to restore order after 15 years of near-anarchy. In June, the destroyer USS Carter Hall fired warning shots in an attempt to stop a hijacked Danish cargo ship off Somalia, but the American vessel had to turn away when the pirated ship entered Somali waters. In May, a U.S. Navy advisory warned merchant ships to stay at least 200 miles off the Somali coast. But the U.S. Maritime Administration said pirates sometimes issue false distress calls to lure ships closer to shore. The pirates are often armed with automatic rifles and shoulder-fired rockets, according to a recent warning from the agency. "To date, vessels that increase speed and take evasive maneuvers avoid boarding, while those that slow down are boarded, taken to the Somali coastline and released after successful ransom payment, often after protracted negotiations of as much as 11 weeks," it advised. The agency issued a new warning to sailors in the Gulf of Aden, between Somalia and Yemen, after Sunday's hijacking was reported. here
