1. Galbeedi, I don't know who is who when it comes to elders in Awdal, but the group below video has distanced themselves from the Suldan. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DmXWf55phuY
2. Somaliland has peace without dividends. It seems the best way to make some money is to be within the inner circle of the Government, unfortunately it is controlled by a small group (I am not talking about tribe). The monopoly over resources and power only magnifies the injustice.
3. @CidanSultan said: Somalia is indivisible. It's people are united in a common purpose. We will work together to remove all problems and barriers. @CidanSultan said:
4. GAROWE, Somalia Dec 9, 2014 (Garowe Online)-Lawmakers in Somalia’s Puntland parliament have unanimously passed a law clearing the way for the establishment of credible Electoral Commission after a two-day intense debate, Garowe Online reports. On Tuesday, of the 50 Members of Parliament in the hall, 45 voted in favor of the 24-clause bill, 3 voted against while two lawmakers abstained from voting. Speaking on Puntland-based independent station, Radio Garowe, MP Saed Abdi Samatar (Sur’ad) said that the parliamentarians removed clause 10 from the law on Electoral commission through an open vote over the course of the parliamentary debate. Meanwhile, the chairman of parliamentary sub-committee on legislations Ahmed Jama stressed that the newly approved bill would help Puntland move from clan-based system to democratic elections in the coming years. Special clauses governing the nomination of Puntland Electoral commission secretary-general were also included in the electoral commission bill. On Saturday, Puntland lawmakers voted out the role of Ministry of Constitution in the registration of political associations and supervision of body’s day-to-day activities. The original Election bill that was introduced on January 2, 2011 gave due emphasis to the embezzlement unlike the amended electoral law. On July 14, 2013 former Puntland President Dr. Abdirahman Mohamed Farole had suspended Puntland’s first-ever democratic elections after what the government at the time described political spoilers incited ordinary residents against the government in Qardo, some 122km north of the capital, Garowe. The 34th parliament session will come to conclusion with the passage of 2015 budget next week. http://www.garoweonline.com/page/show/post/1165/somalia-puntland-mps-pass-electoral-commission-bill
5. They say the measure of a society is how it treats its vulnerable members; if one were to measure our society by this standard, we are the lowest of the low. We have lost our humanity or are no longer abide by any moral values. http://www.garoweonline.com/page/show/post/1153/somalia-unspeakable-cruelty-will-there-be-justice-for-precious-canab
6. @Mooge said:if you are puntland hater. Dear Mooge, no need for confrontation and not everyone is hater. This airport will serve areas not close to Hargeisa and Xamar, something that's badly needed. Hopefully, Kismayo, Baydhabo and Beledweyne will get proper airports too. My only worry is musuqmaasug but I believe the Italians are paying the Chinese directly? I hate to say it our people (meaning all Somalis) cannot be trusted.
7. I have been accused of few things but Abdiwali supporter, you are funny...hehe
8. ^It's hard to change a culture. Citizens expect and accepted this. If there's any silver lining here, it's the hope Somalis realize all their leaders whether elected or selected are rotten to the core but that's being too optimistic.
9. It won't be your uncle I imagine. You first, speculate...
10. Galbeedi, brother I don't doubt anything you said and I have no reason to. I don't also believe one should tolerate injustice in order just to keep the peace. I was only saying it's a particular elite that might be abusing power, not your average geeljire in the Togdheer countryside. The average geeljire only expresses empty pride that his kinsmen is in power but hardly reaps any benefit. The Siyad regime imposed economic embargo on northerners and northeasterners; that failed and only made people more determined. Siilaanyo's efforts will fail as well but it's important how the message is framed (I understand we Somalis are not good at that),it should not be A vs B. Saalax. I guess Siilaanyo knows fellow habros have their arms stashed away. lol@Oodweyne, you know something is wrong when Oodweyne is so blunt.
11. ^It's very unfortunate situation but is this unique to this region only? Obviously Salaax and few others think other regions are affected as well. I think we need to be careful in framing this as one community vs the other, it seems to be a few men at top are only benefiting. I still don't get why the President needs to appoint local governors, let the people do that.
12. Apparently, new tougher terror laws will be introduced giving the security more ammunition needed to further oppose citizens. The obvious victims are Muslims including Somalis but the danger for Kenya is these powers will be used to settle political differences and ethnic issues. This might be eventually blow up in their faces.
13. ^First of all, every Somali leader reports to Addis and Somali public has passively accepted Ethiopian hegemony, so enough with Amxaaro lovers. The enemy of Somalia is Somalia its as shown by the endless conflicts and political infighting. For reer Awdal, hopefully they will make the right, sensible decision.
14. ^I agree with you there, business should be competitive and not be curbed by cronyism, that's just asking for trouble.
15. ^Ungrateful? Seriously? Saalax. The injustice (some of it perceived) and tribalism might be there but luck of economic advancement is the root cause, at the very least, it enhances these problems. If you listen to him, a part of what he is saying has to do with access of power and resources, two things only the Government can give. p.s. it makes no sense to appoint some from another region. Locals should have a say in who runs the place.
16. Quick question, is true the Governor of Awdal is not from Awdal? I think Somaliland's obsession has become an obstacle to the development of the region whether be economic and social developments. The Goverment would have to revise its policies and invest the people. You have very young nation with no jobs or any real opportunities. The Government is the sole entity where many go to work. This creates resentment towards the clan in 'power' though truth to be told the clan does not benefit from the Government , just the elites but the entire clan is blamed anyway. The youth need opportunities and power should be delegated in terms local government collecting taxes and investing the money locally.
