  3. Mohamed Salaax Nuur (Fagadhe) is a true Somalilander and a statesman. He is one of the few Somalilanders that still command respect and admiration in the ever dog-eat-dog politics in Somaliland.
  4. The suspicious aircraft flights that were reported from Las Qorey to Zaylac last year might have been related to this Aeromagnetic thingo. Dawladu waxay dadka ugu sheegi wayday ayaa cajiibleh. 5. Press Release: Somaliland Ministry of Water and Mineral Resources The Somaliland Ministry of Water and Mineral Resources, lead by the minister H.E. Qasim Sh. Yussuf Ibrahim is pleased to announce that TGS-NOPEC Geophysical Company (“TGS”) recently completed an on-shore program of 34,600 kilometers of aeromagnetic data and a 2D seismic survey of offshore Somaliland, consisting of 5,100 KM of modern seismic data. Both data programs are currently being processed for an international bid round planned for late 2008. In March 2007. TGS acquired 1000 KM of offshore seismic as well. TGS is the first seismic company to gather new geophysical data in the Republic of Somaliland in almost thirty years. TGS is well qualified to conduct the Somaliland geophysical program. TGS is a Norwegian public company listed on the Oslo Stock Exchange (Oslo Børs). TGS specializes in the design, acquisition and processing of 2D and 3D multi-client seismic surveys worldwide. Since its founding in 1984, TGS has embraced the multi-client model, acquiring over 2,000,000 line kilometers of 2D data and 88,000 square kilometers of 3D seismic data in North and South America, Europe, Africa and Asia. For the record, the facts about TGS’ dealings with the Somaliland government are as follows. TGS has been authorized under an Agreement with our Ministry of Water and Mineral Resources (“Ministry”) to undertake seismic and aeromagnetic surveys on behalf of the Republic of Somaliland. In return, TGS is creating a geophysical database at no cost to the Government which it will market on behalf of Somaliland. To be clear, TGS has not made any payments to the Ministry or the Minister for the authorization to conduct the geophysical program. The seismic and aeromagnetic data is the national property of Somaliland under the multi-client data acquisition agreement. TGS has no ownership interest in the Somaliland data. TGS has also undertaken, at no cost to the Government, to carry out training of Ministry personnel in seismic processing and interpretation under a technology transfer project. The multi-client model of data acquisition is well established in the international oil and gas exploration market. Multi-client agreements are not subject to bidding or bid rounds since the multi-client data company is risking its own money to conduct the data surveys. Under the TGS multi-client model, TGS will not recover on its investment until the data is successfully sold multiple times. The multi-client model is of mutual benefit to both Somaliland and TGS. Through multi-client sales, TGS spreads the costs of a survey to multiple parties, lowering the cost and barrier to entry for exploration by numerous oil companies, small and large. Somaliland through the multi-client model receives a modern database at no cost, a revenue share in future data sales and more potential bidders for the valuable resources of Somaliland. As a result, Somaliland should have more high-quality oil companies willing to invest in Somaliland’s future. In order to promote Somaliland’s natural resources and our new modern geophysical database, the Ministry shall send representatives to the American Association of Petroleum Geologists (“AAPG”) convention in San Antonio Texas at the end of April. The Minister and representative shall meet and promote Somaliland working closely with TGS. It is estimated that close 7000 delegates will attend this year’s conference. Part of the promotion shall highlight the Ministry’s efforts to hold a bid round for all open blocks in Somaliland by the end of 2008. As part of our preparation for the bid round, the Ministry has sought independent legal advice to revise our Petroleum Law to meet international standards. Any such changes shall be submitted to the legislative process for revision and approval. The Ministry is excited about completion of the TGS geophysical surveys and looks forward to bringing substantial foreign investment to Somaliland. Qasim Sh. Yussuf Ibrahim - Minister Ministry of Water & Mineral Resources Hargeisa, Republic of Somaliland.
  6. TGS Acquires Multi-Client Seismic And Aeromagnetic Programs In Somaliland Asker, Norway, Apr 11, 2008 - (ABN Newswire) - Asker, Norway (11 April 2008) - TGS-NOPEC Geophysical Company (TGS) announced today that it has completed acquisition of two new multi-client programs in Somaliland. Offshore, TGS has acquired approximately 5,100 kilometers of 2D seismic, gravity, and magnetic data covering both shallow and deep water areas. Processing and interpretation of the data should be available to clients by the third quarter of 2008. Onshore, TGS has acquired approximately 34,000 kilometers of high resolution aeromagnetic data covering all known Somaliland petroleum basins. The aeromagnetic data is currently in processing and should be available to clients by mid-2008. Both programs have been acquired in cooperation with the Ministry of Water and Natural Resources and are marketed exclusively by TGS. The Somaliland government has announced its intent to conduct an open bid round later in the year after the data become available. The seismic and aeromagnetic programs being acquired by TGS will provide data needed to define the principle structural elements of the area and allow for the development of leads, plays, and structural highs for further investigation. The area is geologically analogous to Yemen where several oil fields have been discovered to date. Both programs are supported by industry prefunding. TGS-NOPEC Geophysical Company (TGS) is a principal resource for global geoscientific data products and services in the E&P industry. TGS specializes in the design, acquisition and processing of multi-client seismic surveys worldwide and delivers advanced high performance seismic imaging and software solutions. The Company also provides the world's largest online well-log database, well data management services, multi-client interpretive products and subsurface consulting services to industry. The suite of integrated exploration data products available from TGS is distinctive and unmatched. The Company philosophy is to create unique high-quality data collected in the right place at the right time. All statements in this press release other than statements of historical fact are forward-looking statements, which are subject to a number of risks, uncertainties and assumptions that are difficult to predict, and are based upon assumptions as to future events that may not prove accurate. These factors include TGS' reliance on a cyclical industry and principal customers, TGS' ability to continue to expand markets for licensing of data, and TGS' ability to acquire and process data products at costs commensurate with profitability. Actual results may differ materially from those expected or projected in the forward-looking statements. TGS undertakes no responsibility or obligation to update or alter forward-looking statements for any reason. TGS-NOPEC Geophysical Company ASA is listed on the Oslo Stock Exchange (OSLO: TGS). 7. Somaliland should be prepared to give inorder for it to get what it wants. What it wants at this particular time is political support for its quest for international recognition. If that comes at the expense of hosting American base in Berbera, so be it. The Americans had a base in Berbera before so I don't think it would make any difference. And besides, the only port that we rely on were built by the successive Russian and American governments.
  8. There is no problems with Riyaale's one year extention because the country can not be without a government till the elections is held. But what really concerns me is the the electoral committee's ability to hold the elections on time. Most Somalilanders are losing confidence and their credibility is at stake this time round, if they again fail to get things going. For gods sake this is a simple registeration, it doesn't need much of brains if you get the people and the equipment on the ground. The only tough part is getting the electoral officials ready, really.
  9. a REAL leader who will be addressing in the UN shortly and is establishing embassies around the world. If dracular, not that Col. Yey is any less, put on a suit and presented himself as Somalia's President, they would welcomed him to the podium. That is as much the world is really tired and wants something going in Mogadishu. But I don't think that is going to work at all. They are prelonging the civilwar if they continue that policy.

  12. The SL-Shilling is getting stronger. I remember back in 2007 it was hovering around 6500 to the dollar but now it is 5700 to the dollar. This is a time when the Somalia Shillings is ever going down to new lows. In Bosaso it has reached 29,000 to the dollar. In the old days, if the Somalia Shillings increased or decreased in value, the Somaliland shillings would also do the same. But now, it looks like that the Somaliland currency has finally broken any links with the inflation ridden Somalia Shillings.
  13. Ibtisam , The vote that you are refering to took place in 1961. The euphoria for unification was before 1th of July 1960 - before the union took place. The voting took place at a time when Somalilanders realised what a foolish and naive they were in uniting with these ex-Mafia Southerners. The clear majority of the North was desatisfied with the Constitution and abstained to vote and those who voted the clear majority was negative. But as far as the Mafia in the South was concerned, the village of Wanla-wayn recorded more votes of YES than the all North had. Originally posted by Libaax-Sankataabte: 69% in Erigavo? How many total votes? Ibti, I think the Erigavo percentage is highly inflated. If the assumption is made that the NW clan wasn't happy with the "consititution", it is demographically impossible for a 69% "NO vote" in Erigavo (unless only the NW clan portion in the city voted and the majority of the city's residents decided not to vote) . I say this because Erigavo residents in that early period were primarily Maakhirites and Hudunians. Maakhirites and Hudunians migration to other areas of Somalia started in the early 70's with another big influx following the tribal wars of the late 80s'. You could have gotten away with that falacity, Libaaxow, if Ceerigabo and environs were not the cradle of the clan that makes a majority today. On the contrary to your assertions, the said clan you are advocating for came to Ceerigavo in droves during the Siyad Barre regime. It was under the watchful eye of the genocidical regime that this clan, mostly forcefully, stablished itself in the city.

  17. ^^Cajiib!! Funny how you talk about having discussions and exploring ideas and as such in the beginning of your post. But then again, as expected, you degenerate into the usual clanish nonsense as manifested in the views that you hold towards Sool and Sanaag. Sool and Sanaag are not only part and parcel of Somaliland but these regions are an integral part of the nation and without them there can be no Somaliland state. Badhan is legally as much part of Somaliland as Gabiley, Borama or Buuhoodle. That having said, those that oppose Somaliland do exist and are real. We are not going to turn a blind eye to the existence of those opposing Somaliland's independence, but what I can tell you is that, these same folks are in no position to change the course of Somaliland. And answering your assertion that Somaliland can not venture into those remote villages, I see no reason at all. Venturing is one thing, and knowing that those small hamlets are by default part of Somaliland is another. So long that the political capitals of Somaliland's main regions, namely Erigavo, Laascaanood, Borama, Berbera, Burco and Hargeisa, are firmly and strongly under Somaliland hands, that is all its needed at this stage. The push towards an eventual recognition is a task that is before Somalilanders and is being fought out in the diplomatic cirlces of world. I have every reason to believe that the successful resolution in that front is nearer than many think. But one thing is for certain, and that is the eventual recognition of Somaliland is coming.
  18. Fuad Adan Cadde is a great man. I really respect his candid and on-your-face approach to the so called yooyootanka siyaasada Somaliland. The man basically wants things done in an efficient and more transparent way, which I am sure he knew wasn't UDUB's way of doing things. But he confronted them anyway. Good man!! I know he is a princpled man who stands for what is good in Somaliland and hopefully his great effort will not be lost. I think he is a man the opposition can recognise a lot with.

  20. ^^ Laba Xiin, before you are taken seriously in the political face-offs, you'll need to spend enough time here to be noticed. Baashi, The similarities between the small anti-Somaliland minority in the remote parts of eastern Somaliland and the small Serb minority in Kosovo, is that both want to keep their links with their kinship across the border. The thing is, the world doesn't work according to "kinship". The world works according to "international borders". And as far as Somaliland's borders is concerned, they are not something that are going to be redrawn - you'll need to under score that part here. The anti-Somaliland minority doesn't have the power to change Somaliland's course towards an eventual recognition. I am 100% certain that Somaliland will get recognised sooner or later, either way. And that being the case, the anti-Somaliland minority has no other option but to follow the majority. You have time and again talked about "Sool & Sanaag" as being two regions that are anti- Somaliland. But you are wrong. The anti-Somaliland elements in those region actually make a minority of the total populatin of those two regions. As for America's support towards the TFG. I don't think that raises any eyebrows. America has her own interests and those interests are why it has both close relations with Somaliland and the TFG.
  21. It was Ahmed Yusuf Yasin who was in Laaska yesterday and gave the army a speech about moving towards Tukaraq. Perhaps that was the news that these deserters heard? Anyways, it is going to be an easy touch-down all the way to Garoowe soon for the SL army.
  22. Some folks are very simplistic. Firstly this article comes from TVSL Europe website. Secondly, it becomes a wrong when one changes the "contents" of the article and not the title. The title can change in any number of ways but the contents doesn't change. Go figure!! Thirdly, why all the fuzz when the part that is concerning Somaliland is highlighted? Surely, the part that is concerning Somaliland is the "new" thing, as far as the content of the article is concerned. And there isn't anything wrong if one highlights that "new" news.
  23. What if the will of the people in certain segment of what used to be British Protectorate is against the dismemberment drive as manifested in Sool and Sanaag? Simple really. You don't have to look far, Kosovo is a good example of what happened to a renegade minority.
