  1. Salaam, We are living in a world that has changed significantly in the past years.Due to our current history, people from our communities have responded in a variety of ways to the uncertanity and to the stresses that uncertainity causes in our lives. The issue of gender role changes isnt only visiable in our community but its is a wide world phenomenal.Gender is one of the fixed form of identity that has been effected by uncertainty. Back to your question, why are boys a greater concern? Could it be the parenting of Boys is different to the girls, do parents teach girls more responsibilities while boys dont have much responsibilities while growing up? The curriclum taught, might not be suitable to boys in school, more practical subjects should be taught.More male teachers in schools?? Lack of positive role models at home, society to influence young boys?
  2. UK Rose, get your self some comedy movies, play with kids..I usually find messing about with my daughter very theraputic,we play catch or dodge ball, which takes me back to my own childhood..tap to your memories of good times,it sure to lift your mood. Or, put in your fav music on and dance till you drop...sing on top of your voice, let your hair down.. Or listen to Quran, it has a soothing effect.
  3. Che,I am sure the authour of the article is a female!! Safi, you ask if we cry, YES!!some of us cry, evertime we hear, see and observe the plights of our people. The instability of our political situation with its dire consequences to the masses. Images on the news of the war in Somalia are a record of the reality in the situation. I find these images of pain and suffering so unsettling, images of mothers and their children under a tree makes me feel willy-nilly. That I am sitting on a comfort of my sofa unable to intervene. The images of horror on the streets of Mogadishu have effects of ambiguity which is inescapable. The recent Dhahar conflicts caused uneasiness within, fearing the ever looming possible war in the Northern part of Somalia….thoughts of doom and gloom are overwhelming at many times. We put up with the worst of people as our leaders when we can do so much better, we rely more on foreigners than our fellow Somalis, more or less. How are we to achieve peace, when peace cannot be kept by force under any circumstances, Until we come to terms with the crimes committed against each other, we will never achieve peace. Inshallah we shall over come these uncertain times, after repenting to Allah for crimes committed against each other under the flags of clanships...yet we stand proud calling ourselves muslims..How shameful of us?
  4. ^^^Who is a Somalilander?? The mothers, sisters your feeding, might be your cousins, aunties etc etc..As far as Somalis are concern, there had always been intermarriages, you make it sounds like Somalilanders are a new breed of People, werent they just few years ago Somalis?? This is disturbing walle!!
  5. "In Somaliland, we don't' settle arguments at the point of an AK47, or through self-martyrdom, we debate, cajole and reach a consensus." ^^^Repeatition , repeatition...sounds almost true!! Why is it that when the people of SSC,speak of their decision to be part of the great Somalia, the Landers[like somalidaa kalee duul laan baa heysaa]..Your so called peaceful administration reacts with threats?
  6. ~" He leaned forward to enunciate his words with the slowness of someone used to speaking to blockheads." ^^Lool,Thats quite an observation of Mr Nuurdin.. The sad thing is both the so called leaders, didnt show much care for the people, what happened in Mogadishu was just a continuity of their personal fueds.. Nevertheless an interesting article, thanks for sharing Dabshid.
  7. Chubacka so your the mature ,unemployed UK rose was talking about..lol, just kidding sis. UK rose, let me see what I can pull out of the hat,for discussion..what about how much is too much, for this faraax: This is fictional ,but based on true events, and people..names have been changed to protect their identities. What will it take for this faraax to leave the Xalimo for good.Xaji F,had been arrested more then 5times by police after Ugasoo Xalimo called the police on him after he refused to pay for her sisters husband nephews qaraan money, or when he came home late, or when he is just broke..see Xalimo likes him only when he is loaded, the days he has no money she cant stand his sight....so she calls the police and makes up stories about him..he gets drugged out of the house in his truck suit, infront of his kids and later when released,he goes to stay at friends untill she calls him back...this is happens at least three to four times a year.., on top of all this drama, when he is in the home he sleeps on this tiny bed,in the guest room..My question is what is wrong with this man? This pattern of distructiveness seem to work for this couple they have been together for 10yrs!! so how much is too much?
  8. Che...You know the saying,You only reap what you sow!!..so plant some love you would get some love back..simple!!

  12. So Dabshid did you try the recipe? How did the meal turn out?...or you just nipped round the corner to the Somali restaurant... Nobody eats fish in here? Grilled salmon fillets, prawn pilau, spicied fried fish[snapper&red tilapia].. Oh my fav: Prawn in coconut cream sauce, with chapati. Ingredients: Prawns, onion, tomato, coconut cream.. Fry the onion, in very little oil,add the tomatoes[if pured better],add the prawns..let it cook, add a pinch of salt..last but not least add the coconut cream..voila!! You can eat it with, pitta bread, or white coconut flavoured rice.. Oh, I love fried ripe plaintains too..tasty!
  13. It should be banned,it is a drug, like any other drug once abused its impact on the persons life and those around him/her are usually devostating. The khat chewing of our fathers era is gone, where they used to run their businesses during the day, chill in the afternoon[talking business]while chewing, and by the evening their with their families.Where now days, the man will be chewing all night long, sleep all day long....where is the balance?
  14. Lets give the sister the benefit of the doubt,as she has tried to explain clearly her aim wasnt not to compare the Jews and the Somali land cause of secession as the same.As I understood she meant, the strategies used by the Jews after the Holocaust of victimazation to gain support world wide for their cause in Israel, compesation from America,Europe for the crimes committed against them. As an opportunity has risen for me to ask my brothers and sisters for some clearance on the matter of the purposes of the secessionist movement in Somaliland. I am still not clear of the somaliland secessionist movement,I know many secessions can and are justified as ways of escaping oppression, achieving freedom and self-goverment. However, the key problem with the principle of self-determination taking the form of secession as a means of eliminating national and ethnic conflict is that it begs four questions: who are the people; what is the relevant territorial unit in which they should exercise self-determination; what constitute a majority; does secession produce a domino effect in which minorities within seceding territories will seek self-determination for themselves? In this case I am talking about the people of Sool,Sanaag and ****, where do they fit in this secessionist movement?

  18. ^^^Lool Sorry couldnt help noticing the tunk top uniform[the two brothers on the last pic]..should I be paying that much attention to what their wearing..lol Anyways bravo, to the brothers and sisters whom took on the streets of London to voice their opinions..I wish I knew about the demostrations,I would have been on the front line...wearing a light blue tunk top too..lol

  20. "And the sort of thing to be expected of a government whose prime minister, Ali Mohamad Gedi, has publicly accused the United Nations agency feeding the country of spreading cholera along with food deliveries." ^^^Ouch, how embrassing!!Talk about bitting the hand that feeds you..so ungrateful,so ignorant.

How heart breaking, for those whom advocate for more war or no negotiations to the ever lasting nightmare, can they justify this? or many other predicaments Somalis find themselves due to lack of Goverment,Home etc etc..
