Create a time-machine so i can live in Colorful early 80s Mogadishu: Ofcourse i would take an army of 1 million Somali men and women with me, to topple the government and install a female president. Brother B, you and I most likely will be talking on the net from the comfort of our homes in Mogadishu. btw if time can really be placed in a neat timeline, wouldn't my future-self already have gone back changing time in the 80s? Did i somehow mess up and the result was what we see today? Why then did i go back in the first place if my meddling was the cause of this? Or was the reality of Somalia and the world in general during the time of my future-self in such a bad shape, where regional warlords are bombing eachother and other countries with Russian supplied suit-nukes, that i had to go back and take drastic measures in preventing this reality from happening by taking out key individuals with ties to the Soviet Arsenal? I saved the world.

The Taiwanese think the Mainland Chinese are no good twisted Communists, the Mainland Chinese think the Hong Kongites are Chinese on the outside English on the inside, the Hong Kongites think the Taiwanese are traitors, but in the diaspora however they together make up the ethnic enclaves known as Chinatowns. The Osakans think the Tokyoites are greedy, the Nagoyans think the Osakans are unsophisticated, the Tokyoites think the Nagoyans are countrybums, but in the diaspora they are all Japanese. The Punjabis think the Tamils are darkskinned lowcaste people, the Tamils think the Punjabis are basterds of the Aryan invasions, the Sikhs think the Marathi's are pirates, the Marathi's think the Sikhs are fanatics, but in their diaspora they are all Indians. Nothing hypocritical about this, its human nature to stick with what your familiar with. In the Somali case it only tells us that the conflict is one of ideology and wrong leadership rather than actual deep rooted animosity.

Somali Women and Revert Marriage Phenomenon
Chimera replied to Mr. Gello - The proud Soma's topic in General
^LOL, good, honest Somali men have become a rare item these day eh? Like a near-extinct Pokemon specie, they are being pursued by crowds of Somali women armed with Pokeballs, their motto; gotta catch em all! Aww poor poor sisters, i know you guys wanted a rare Mewtwo, but instead you simply got to settle with a ordinary Bulbasar. It amuses me when some people try to justify the decisions of these sisters, with the reason that there aren't enough 'good Somali men' around, when its their god given right to marry whomever they wish to hitch with. The reason a revert would find it easier to approach the Somali community than lets say a Pakistani/Moroccan or Kurdish community is because Somali men don't resort to twisted things like intimidation or worse honor killings, matter fact in terms of the Global Islamic community, traditionaly we are probably one of the most liberal male groups, yet when i read similar topics on Islamic forums it's always us being demonised for whatever reason. If you married John who became Yusuf, because you liked him as a person, regardless of his phenotype, i say Masha-allah, but if you married him with the excuse that you couldn't find a 'Nin Rag ah' from our community, i say you are a deluded nutcase. I tried finding a funny quote from a muslim forum where two sisters were discussing why one of them would marry outside the community, her reason was: many Somali men don't speak English well, she ended up marrying a German revert LOLOLOL, i mean c'mon Germans watch 'Friends' in German LOL, even my little nephew from Holland has a better grasp of English than the average German. Stop the excuses people, if you want to expand your horizon on the canvas that is your life, make sure you don't paint a stormy cloud over ours, let us be in peace! Go your way and we go ours, no need to second guess your decision or justify it. -
Originally posted by Oz: it's a shame how other SOL girls laugh at another ones misery. I agree, i thought Somali Sisterhood was one of the strongest bonds in our society equal to that of Mother & Son, but maybe i was wrong? Prince of punt is Adam? Evasive maneuvers, new name, new identity, new modus operandi. I was kinda schocked that she locked me on her radar that quikly and blast me like that, but i now realise, namechanges are also apparrant in SOL's Inbox/outbox..ehem. 5, again i'm very sorry! The other comments gave my reply a sinister twist, which was not my intention.

^You quikly added 'yness', nice correction!, for a minute there, i started wondering wether you were playing for the other team.

January 2003, I really started using the Internet more reguraly because we got broadband installed at home, before this i only used the computer to watch dvds or play GTA. Even during Computer class, i had no interest in surfing the web or go on MSN, unlike most of my classmates who did it sneaky behind the teacher's back.

2+2=5, there are lots of successful brothers and sisters on SOL, including some who have published work, you could have shared that on the board like them, thats no problem. Also i don't consider the topics where i asked a few questions and told of my projects the same as 'socialising', which is more personal. I have bad experience with this type of Internet 101 in PM's, which in the past have led me to meeting sisters in real life because i have difficulty saying no, so hence my vagueness, but this was not your intention, but simply a case of me being paranoid and i see that now. I wish you the best and i apologise for my previous comment, chill pill taken.

Somalia collapsed because it lacked a strong business community that could keep it together, as a result of many years of government interference in the economy. The appearance of rapidly rising Somali conglomerates in the Telecommunications, Airlines, Livestock and real-estate industries(Many of them leaders in East Africa) will set the framework for lasting stability in the Somali peninsula: Warlordism in Comparative Perspective Warlordism creates significant problems in failed states: it impedes the development of stable and secure societies, thwarts economic growth, and creates new threats to international security. Through a comparative study of four seemingly disparate cases—medieval Europe, Republican China, and Somalia and Afghanistan in the mid-2000s—it is possible to develop an inductive, generalizable definition of warlordism. Warlordism emerges when armed men seize small slices of territory in disintegrating states for their own benefit, using charisma and patronage ties to cement their local authority, and disrupting commerce and investment through their fragmentary rule. Two causal factors were necessary for the demise of warlordism in medieval Europe and Republican China: the presence of a powerful and aggrieved economic interest group, and the appearance of a transformative idea from outside the existing system that supported the interest group's actions. If this same causal relationship holds true today, then warlordism will be more quickly eliminated in Somalia than in Afghanistan. The international community can take action to help eliminate warlordism, but change ultimately depends on domestic factors and will likely be violent. http://www.mitpressjournals.org/doi/abs/10.1162/isec.2007.31.3.41

Make it a habit to empty your inbox! Your quite aggressive, and i saw your request the first time, i thought me ignoring it would have been a good enough sign, but i guess not. I'm not here to socialise, nor do i feel like sharing private info. No offence meant.

I hate our current situation, it makes me nauseous. One way or another we need to get back on our feet, i don't care under whom. We have so much going for us, a rich historic and cultural heritage, outstanding flora & fauna and landscapes, beautiful language etc. If we only worked together, then we could become an amazing maritime nation like Greece or Malaysia, which if the civil war had not occurred would have been a reality. -
A husband and wife besides living in eachother's worlds on a daily basis should have a seperate bubble of friends/version of reality all to themselves, so they can go on trips/do the things they want with these friends, when the spouse is not interested. There has to be trust ofcourse, but an alarm - *Peewweewweew* - should go off immediately if your wife takes a trip to Greece by herself, or your Husband joins a carnival in Brazil

Originally posted by Aaliyah416: quote: What in the world?, you ripped that figure straight from a study on African American single mothers and have applied this on the Somali community. Why? I have no clue what you speaking of? African American? this was just an approximate number I wrote based on how many single moms I know...and its unfortunate situation within the Somali community. So it's basically anecdotal evidence. There is something about some Somalis where they love to blow things out of proportion, words like 'phenomena' and 'majority' are a real hit amongst them. Sure a substantial section of the diaspora was raised by single mothers(or single fathers) because for the simple fact that the father(or mother) was dead or did not acquire residency and was forced to stay in Somalia. The children of these couples however are now in the 20 to 35 age category and the traditional Somali nuclear & extended family system is the norm in our community.
