  1. I think it is criminal to deliberately feed falsehood to the american public. How much can nytimes be trusted to be straightforward about anything? Why should I even bother reading it if this the kind of crap you get?
  2. Tammy, how did you delete the post?
  3. I take back all the statements I've made on this thread. May Allah bring peace to our home lands.
  4. Lily, You're definitely right, we have to correct ourselves first and foremost. These bad things I mention, I see the closest members of my family deal with it, in the end I am responsible for only myself and not for people not under my control. Still, we need to realize our situation and express that things people are doing are not OK! and that we don't accept it! and hopefully this will translate to real action and change. Sickest thing is that dealing in fraud as become 'caadi'! it should be shamefide!
  5. It is scientifically proven that women are not as stimulated by physique as men. And this is reflected through prophetic lens, men can bare anything above the navel and below the knees. There is great wisdom in that.
  6. this is simply gay! worry about how you'll be able to support a future family, be responsible, get yourself an education and a job. Then let me know if some somali sister rejects you. if after that someone reject you, then why would you want them? There are plenty of fish in the see, maybe you just need to go to better fishing grounds. Perhaps you've been smitten by a very beautiful girl? don't worry it'll fade with time.
  7. Sabriya, Thank you for your good opinion of what I've written. What I wrote was for more than just people writing in somali, even though that in itself is not good etiquette, but rather for the less than praiseworthy things that were said of the sister with it. That is what really compelled me to say something, I was hoping people would get that out from my writing. Perhaps I was not direct enough or my somali simply sucks. This is in no way debasing oneself, if one is honest and truly caring towards others, that will shine through and will truly impress others, not pretending like being a somali is the pinnacle of human perfection. If we were truly blunt, our general situation shows that as somalis we don't have much to be proud of. Does that mean I am self hating want to abandon who I am? No, Allah has made a somali, I am content with where I'm from and my lineage. And this allows me to be self critical when need be.

Not only it is plainly immoral and mis-educating the children, but cheating the system means dire consequences both immediately and in the afterlife; likewise, culimas have time and again warned us against parents falsely claiming to have separated as the resulting children may then be "xaaraan" (marriage, as an institution decreted by Allah, is far beyond such schemes and even joking with divorce could be equated with divorce Fiqh-wise) All that for what? typically around £ 200 a year, as working parents may be entitled to tax credits etc; much less than the omnipresent flat screen TV we poison Somali offsprings' minds with... Now, frugality is a virtue and children are a blessing and we should not look at life through purely materialistic lenses; however, one should avoid compromising ethically at all cost, for their own sake! As for making a living, the only imperative is to avoid xaaraan sources as well as dubious ones however over-represented they are (the rest is secondary and a bonus, ie seeking better conditions or pay etc)... EXACTLY 100%%%% Haram sustanence I believe is the root of our problems in the diaspora and back home. How do we expect for peace to reign in our homelands when the money we send is haram? Playing with divorce is no joke and indeed many children maybe born in haraam way if look at it fiqh wise! Number 2 problem: absent fathers. Although if a father was concerned as to whether the source of sustanence for him and his family was halal, then most likely he would not be absent. Number 3 problem: women not respecting their husbands, thus contributing to the absent father syndrome and husbands going to more pleasant places to be, like hang out with his buddy where he'll never get criticized. please don't forget to stroke the egos of your men, they'll really appreciate it and need it from you the most. They sure as heck not going to get it from their mothers.
  9. Alhamdulillah, that Islam was the first religion to reach our shores. In all the lands that Islam spread, you can instantly tell that people accepted it willing as their cultures are intact, albeight, undergoing pruning unnecessary excesses here and there. That is why we still have our language and our traditions of food and dress. Recently though many somalis felt that being an arab meant being more of a true muslim, while the muslims before us never thought this even though they're certainly more pious than ourselves. This because the prophet (pbuh) has said that the religion of islam will decrease more and more with the passage of time until the end. Still, although the listed videos have elements of Somali culture, they also have significant elements of non-Islamic culture. For me Islam supercedes somali culture as I was born a somali and I had no choice in the matter, while being muslim is a choice even though in reality it is a gift from Allah. Either the non-Islamic elements are from influence of western culture imposed on somalis during colonialism and afterwards or somali culture is very lax on religion. Really, I believe all the listed videos are haram for men to watch as they have dancing women and some of them have their awra showing. It is hard for me to believe that Muslim somalis would allow this kind of thing, lets say two hundred years ago. And I do suspect this is more of western influence. My mom tells me when she was growing up that the girls who went to school had to were clothes that were very revealing. She said that she had to wear shorts as uniform! I'm all for retaining our culture, still, we don't have to accept everything that is handed down to us, and things that are haraam are definitely things that we should not accept. Perhaps, I'm extremely conservative.
  10. Osman NZ for the President of Puntland! Osman NZ ha noolado! Puntland ha noolato!
  11. Osman_nz, take it easy bro... we all went through crap, but Allah loves those who suppress their anger. Everything happens for reason so no need to let this cause unrest. plus everyone had his role and we all need to repent. In the end we'll only be responsible for our deeds only.

  13. Sabriya, Amiin, Osman_nz, here is all I have to say: "The existence of God is proven by existence. The existence of existence is proven by the one for whom it exists." Contentions 5, AHM
  14. Masha-Allah. It is amazing, even he was in crap Allah opened his heart to Islam. Here is something that should raise our spirits, inshallah:
  15. Here is another... There was a man in his house and just prepared his lunch and it was all ready. And he said to himself, oh man it is time to pray I should pray before I miss it. And then just after he made the takbir, a cat came into his house and was about to eat his food. Unable to do anything else he said very loudly: PSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS millah ir-rahmaani ir-rahiim! That cat ran away and he continued with his prayer with his lunch safe and sound.
  16. cool! I might look into this a future career...
  17. I do suspect this. They don't mention this on their main website ahlusunna.org. Those men don't look like prisoners.
  18. 1. Where are you sources on this? They themselves that they were defeated in Wabxo themselves. We're all mature here, we don't need propaganda. 2. They are not necessarily pro-government. Just because they don't intend to take over the "government" doesn't mean they're pro-"government." Infact they despise Mr. Shariif, as 1) he was the front face of Mr. Aways during the days of the ICU and 2) his government just killed a bunch of their ulama in mogadishu in cold blood. Yeah, the situation is Somalia is becoming more messy and complex by the minute.

Nuune, This is my expression of the seriousness of the situation. These people are defending themselves from the al-shabaab offensive, so when someone is transgressing, and to me it is clear al-shabaab/HI are transgressing, they should be called out on and we shouldn't be lukewarm with some kind of moral equivalence.
  20. WOW!!! Look at the moral pedastel you guys put al-shabaab in. Al-shabaab beheading many more captured in their mosques and homes who were doing nothing more than fulfilling their deen and were Un-Armed! You compare it to this when they were captured in battle on the offensive? Please gimme a break. Still, I'm not condoning this act, but everything in proportion. I said before, this is where the real bloody battle is going to be.
  21. Sabriya, The human is naturally faithful to Allah. It is the shaytaan that puts waswasa in his heart, this is where the doubts come from. They don't originate from the person so who ever has something like it, they should know it is from Shaytan and not from themselves. And as, LT already said, the faith of a person fluctuates. Some days you feel full of Iman other days you don't, in both cases you should not miss out on your worship.

To everyone, this topic is not meant to be debated nor is it for controversial purposes, I have no interest in that to be honest. It's genuine thoughts that I've been having lately and I'm expressing it here. The objective isn't to get anyone to convert to my way of thinking, but just to show a different perspective. He says he is not an atheist, so Insha-Allah lets assume the best. LT- I was reading your post on God being petty. Our teacher was actually going over this. He said many people confuse God with people and think that He has motives for His actions. This is not the case. Humans have motives for doing things because they want to gain something. For example your attempting to gain some knowledge, and this is possible because you and I are deficient in knowledge. However, Allah is already perfect, He does not need anything or anyone so therefore he can not have motives. Therefore to say that he is petty or vengeful is to say that He wants revenge for something done to Him. But this impossible, He says, I believe in a Hadith Qudsi, that were the first of you and the last of you, the jinn of you and the mankind of you were as disobedient as the most disobedient among you you would not decrease in the least My Kingdom. So it is really important not to imagine Allah as a more powerful human being. He is unlike anything you can imagine. "Vision comprehends Him not, but He comprehends (all) vision. He is the Subtile, the Aware." 6:103
  24. I think most of us live by pascals gambit, we cannot logically prove that god exists, but probability wise, we have less to lose from just believing than not believing in god. I think that's how I've been reasoning for a long time, but that is a flawed reason, and it suggests that god is petty god that rewards hypocrisy and not genuine goodness. More jumbled questions that are usually on my mind: How do you reconcile free will and destiny? Brother LT, I take back what I said. I thought you said 'all' but looking back it is clear you said most. So I was hasty to judgment. Please forgive me for my pre-mature judgment, it was totally uncalled for! As far as free will goes, all that we need to know is that we have it and that we are responsible for our choices. How this works is just simply one of those things that is beyond the capacity of the human intellect. A better translation of Qadr (predestination) is predetermination. Such that everything is predetermined with respect to Allah's complete knowledge and will. This means nothing happens haphazardly. But still Allah decreed that our actions be based on choice to choose between good and evil. Because He knows what our choices will be before they occur does not negate the fact that our actions are based on choice for which we are responsible for. As for as for existence of Allah the Exalted goes, the creation of our environment and our surroundings is a sufficient proof. People have different things that gives them certainty of their lord. For myself it is hard to imagine that I came from a single cell, and all the information and direction of my whole physical being was encoded in the single cell and now in every cell in my body. A universe with such perfect order must have a ruler to say all this came together haphazardly is truly bizarre. Also, look at the proofs of the Qur'an! and most importantly the life of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). The Qur'an says that Allah will preserve this book and indeed He preserved it and the ways of His Messenger (PBUH) like no other. This is a miracle onto its own. Wallahu aclam. Again, please forgive me for any ill feelings!
