The admin I guess is like the spokesperson for the moderators. The Admin is one person and is a man. Plus you should know thinking/guessing and knowing something for a fact are two different matters. Therefore, before you lecture, you should check your facts first. What is more, we can all read the rules and is up to the site moderators and Admin enforce them and reminds us of them. So let them do their job without butting your nose where is not concerned. I hope that was clear.
  2. I agree with both of you, OG-Girl and Duke. Let us hope the Admin will be a man enough to see his mistake and correct it. The two grown ups, keep laughing while it lasts!
  3. You have touched on a very complex topic but I have to say you have not done it any justice and you just mixed left and right. For example, you didn’t even say how many types of democracies are there and what are the differences between them. Also, you didn’t mention the evolution of democracy and all you have done is give us the classic definition for it and omitted to say what the Greeks meant by the ‘people’— cause as far as the ancient Greeks were concerned it wasn’t democracy for the masses. So what is Democracy in practise in this age and not just give us a classical definition? For me, democracy is a type of government where the people can hold into account those who lead or govern them. We need to hold the leaders into account for the simple reason, they are human being who are greedy and open to corruption easily. So the tools of this type of governments guaranties us, the rooting out of bad leaders. We have to admit we don’t live in a perfect world but at least these tools are better than any other of form of governments where the leaders are not accountable to those they lead. So where is the fear in a system like this? To some people the fear comes about; because they believe this system make the people the source of power where only God is the source of power! However, this is unfounded since we are talking about countries where the Muslim are the majority (remember in a democracy the majority rule) and such people wont pass legislation that would contradict Islam. What is more we can put some articles in the constitution of these countries, saying something along the lines; any legislation that contradicts Islam will not be accepted because Islam is the religion of the State and the source of legitimacy of all its institutions. So I will conclude by asking you what form of government are you proposing. Would you care to tell us the different types of democracies that are out there and how they all contradict Islam? Finally, how is democracy bad for us?
  4. Mr Smith enlighten us, how is Princes right? The whole of EU governments paid less donation than the gulf Arab states. If you dont believe me check it out. You are telling us Japan pledged 500 Million dollars, how much of that money is today reaching the victims of the disaster? Anyone can pledge and then never pay. Remember the conference for Afghanistan, how much was pledged and how much is paid reached the Afghan government and its people today? Most of the donation in the UK is paid by the average person on the street and the government just pledged to double the amount its citizens pay. On top of that, the banks in the UK were making huge profits from the money donated by the public, until they were shamed yesterday they have given up that money. So before you criticize for the sake of it, check the facts first. "You know - being a rich Arab prince isn't so bad. At least you enjoy life on planet Earth - afterlife is something else." Wind, Are you telling us you have knowledge of afterlife now and who will go where? How do you know you are better than the rich Arab prince? Brother dont judge a book by its cover.
  5. You are right OG and the road to the Arab world goes through Egypt! I hope our beloved president learns this fact soon before it is too late.
  6. Very good analysis Classique of who we really are and I couldn’t have put it better. It seems we Somalis are like kids who wants to get what they want and if not we bang our heads against the wall rather than trying to figure it out, the hows and whys. I think this is because our brains have not evolved yet to the stage of figuring out! Let us hope we would figure out very soon but unfortunately, evolution is a slow process! So God help us. I think is a good idea for opening a new thread in order to solve our differences first before we criticise others. Plus you never know this might accelerate our figuring out of hows or whys.
  7. “well you both have failed to notice that i was actully correcting other nomads and telling them that they should have prayed Safar prayer instead of having to pray inside an airplane which is, never the less, an act of iman..†I re-read your post and I don’t see anywhere that you corrected other nomads at all. All you have asked for was other nomads opinion and OG_Girl stated hers. If you didn’t like it, you should have kept your mouth shut. My opinion on the post is simple, those who prayed on the plane, have very little knowledge about Islam and no further comments needed. â€the attack i was talking about is belittling our holly quran which remesbled in this post below.. If you want to hear your self no need to post in public , stand front of the mirror and keep reciting it like Quraan.†Tell us exactly how is OG_Girl belittling the Quraan here? Do you even understand the word ‘recite’? Reciting is to repeat aloud--something rehearsed or memorized especially before an audience. So all OG-Girl meant here is, if you don’t want to hear other people’s views, recite it to yourself aloud just like one does with Quraan. So what is wrong with that?? “And i dont hate Arab ppl, i was just exposing their goverments discriminatory policies..†We are not here to discuss the politics of the Arab world and there is a time and place for everything. If you want that then I suggest go and discuss that in politics section or even better open another thread here. Any other objections you have about Arab governments you better send a letter to Omar Musa since he is the Secretary General of Arab League and since Somalia is member of the Arab league you have that right. So exercise your rights!
  8. AJ, what was the purpose of your post brother? I understood it, you were asking other people’s opinion and OG_Girl stated her views. So what is with the personal attack? If you didn’t want to hear other people’s views why did you post in a public forum? “i was only responding to the blatant attack (above) aimed at Islam which for some reason you have not yet noticed...†After the personal attacks, now you are using Islam as your defence. You have violated all the basic rules of Islam by attacking people and using foul language. What happened to tolerance and respect for others even if you don’t agree with them? If you were defending Islam, I don’t think you would have written this much rubbish and personal attacks. It seems to me, you are using Islam for your own defence cause Islam doesn’t need to be defended this way. So brother, before you open your mouth of defending Islam, I would suggest you learn the basics of Islam. As of the Arabs, well it seems you have a grudge against them and hence all the rubbish you puked in public. Heal yourself!
  9. Jacaylbaro and Wiilo, you two are hijacking the topic and turning it into a chit chat. If you guys fancy chit chat, I would suggest go to a chat room and you can chat there to your hearts contents! The worst part though is, you two are being unfair in writing in Somali since you are aware most people here don’t read/write Somali. Therefore, this way you are ignoring a large portion of the members and this defeats the whole purpose of the forum! So I say stop being selfish and consider your fellow members for once. Have a nice day!
  10. Alle, what is culture, give us a definition of it? Is it static or does it change with time? From your ranting, all I see are self-contradictory statements and nowhere do I see my culture is this and that. While you are at it, tell me/us, what you mean by, “true pre-modern somali cultureâ€. “how come you say Somali culture and Islam are not the same?†Why don’t you tell us why they should be the same? If you argue they are the same, then surely the following statement you made is wrong! “Look at the Arabs, Asians, Non-Muslim Africans, they all have one thing in common, and that is an easy assimilation and integration to the dominant culture. Why? because prior to their arrivals in the west, they had this culturaly compatible believes and values that were very much flexible,†If Somali culture and Islam are the same, then the Arab culture is more Islamic since Islam came to that culture first and we received Islam through them. Thus, they are more likely to have Islamic culture (which is the best culture if the two are the same) provided if what you are saying is true! But I don’t think is true. I will give you a couple of examples, of why culture and religion don’t have one to one relationship-- some form of a relation does exist though. Religion may be part of culture but culture is not always part of religion, since there are various cultures within one religion. Another point to bear in mind for example is, within one culture there are various religions, Egyptian Christians, and Muslims they are not much different culturally but very different religion wise. Another example, Indians and Pakistanis, more or less have the same culture but very different religion. Therefore, culture is a tradition, which could be either good or bad, but religion is a belief system, which can only be for good (one hopes!). Another good example to think about is Imam Shafii who changed some of his fatwas when he moved from Iraq to Cairo. This is because when he got to Cairo he saw a different culture and circumstances and thus changed some of his religious views. Isn't that enough to at least for one to think religion and culture are different and yet (some how) shape each other? “But always consider these three signs that I believe are the very first symptoms of cultural deviations, (1) The loss of langauge, (2) Spiritual emptiness, and (3) Knowing nothing about ones' History.†If number two is true, then we Somalis lost culture (whatever that means) a long time ago before we came to the West. Cause as far as I am concerned there is nothing spiritually about taking the life of another human being or dying for a tribe!
  11. The place you described sounds like hell and I wont wish it on my worst enemy. So my advice to you is, get out of there as soon as you can! Trust me you are better off loosing the bet against your Dad (I am sure he would pick someone who nice for you!) than being surrounded by these type of people.
  12. One thing that we all have to realise is victors always write history. However, victors come in many forms and shapes. In this case, for instance, the Somali history of that period during and after the war is what the government of Siyad Baree wrote. Therefore, we all have to examine that part of our history with critical eye. Nationalist, every one knows Abdul Rasheed , the great Somali president, and what he stood for. But I don’t think OG Girl meant that far back in history. That part of our history is well written and documented at the time by various authors unlike the latter part of it when we are under the rule of military dictator. Is amazing how great we once were or told we were and what we are reduced to today! Examples of this look no further than our so-called leaders of today. These leaders are running after Ethiopia be in Puntland or Somaliland while Ethiopia are humiliating our fellow brothers and sisters in Oggaden, our leaders are serving them. What a shame.

  15. Horn, to be fair to Nationalist is not only him who believes and thinks like this, but majority of Somalis do. Even the new Somali constitution states that, people from NFD and Oggaden region are no longer Somali citizens and thus not only did we sell the land only but also people our people who live there. So you are lucky your parents from Gedo and therefore have a place you call home. Is sad though the only way to be Somali is if your clan has a region and that region is within the Republic of Somalia only.
  16. ^^^ Thanks sxb and I am off to Syria on your advice. What about you sxb, where are you off to?
  17. As always brother Moti is the wisest amongst the Somali men here and I wonder where we would be without his wisdom and guide. Is a shame though most of the sisters don’t realise his only motive is to help our society and nothing less than that. Moti you are a great man my friend and I will ask of you not to give up on our sisters, they are just misguided and misunderstood your intentions. So forgive them brother, as they don’t know what they are doing or saying! I myself I am going to Badia to bring my pride because the girls in the West want to be men. So until they come back to their traditional roles of being wives and mothers, we should boycott them! I hope they wake up soon before it is too late.
  18. Is amazing how Islam is used and abused in this day and age in order to achieve some political gains. I am sure this attempted assassination had nothing to with Islam or Islamic fundamentalist. I will ask the Nomads here not to turn this post in qabiil or AY bashing and hope we all see we have a common enemy now. This is a dangerous and aggressive enemy, which wants to delete Islamic culture from existence. We shouldn’t let this happen and we should unite together. United we stand…
  19. OG_Girl we don't need School by Mutakallem , he will give a lot of home work to do. Maybe you can teach us
  20. Innaa lilaahi waa innaa ileyhii raajiuun. Allah Yarhama.
  21. Originally posted by Nationalist: Can Anbody Analyze This? It Needs a History Professor As far as I can see there is nothing to analyse here since all the details presented are mere coincidence! I am pretty sure the death/killing of both men have very little in common and the facts presented here are just the type you find in anything when you look too hard. By looking too hard at anything, one always finds/forms patterns, which are not true to the nature of the subject being studied. For instance, the ancients looked at the stars and formed patterns that are not there at all.
  22. Happy Eid to all the Nomads and Aliens. Bee, no xaqal Eid cheques for you cause that is only for kids! All the best on Eid day.
  23. The answer to the above question is, after Mecca (8Hijra) and this battle was against the tribe of Huwazin (and other tribes) who had gathered in the valley of Hunein near Mecca. Here is my question. Which blessed wife of Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) saw him in a dream in a distressed condition when Imam Hussain (ra) was martyred on the plains of Karbala?
  24. Shoobaro sxb choose words that are more common next time. Cause I don’t even know more than half of these words, let alone in using them. “They all seem like strictly reer waqooyi terms.†You are right there 7 of 9 and hence why I don’t know them!
