  1. Not making judgment or assumptions here …. But, there is a flip side to this supposedly ‘life style’ objection, Its obvious, weren’t for the family moving close, roommate's significant other wouldn’t be an issue. This scenario sure isn’t isolated, most of us feel obliged to put up good/honorable provado’ among our peers and family, while we act and behave differently otherwise. What is acceptable to a person’s character/value’s shouldn’t change, regardless of their family living next door, or half a world a part. Upholding set of principles/value’s and how a person is viewed by a community are two mutually exclusive choices, the latter being opted by the most pll, since it could in-tale being an outcast. Didn’t mean to criticize, since there was an advice been asked: So, when you finally decide to confront the roommate, I say be prepare to reply when the roommate questions your perceived ‘reputation’.
  2. Thus, yesterday's mass murderers and the day-before-yesterday's thuggish looters of the nation's resources put themselves forward as today's leaders of the Somali people's destiny. And nobody calls them on it because they are protected on all sides by their kin. A though provoking article about Somalis, and our contemporary history. The Professors account on why Sayyid Mohamed C/Hassan movement failed to unify Somalis and his depiction to present day saga demonstrates his keen authority to Somali psyche.
  3. Nayruus I respect you work here, keep it up… This is the only thing worth reading on the political section of SOL.,….. By contrast, other contributors of this section and their immense endlessly, or rather useless debates are far removed from the realities of the ground. Keep reminding them on what is at stake sxb.
  4. Apologies!… my pc went nuts on me, while I was about to reply this thread….Admin help the bro out, and erase those unnecessary duplications
  5. Pacifist I respectively disagree…. I was prompted by your second reply to your own thread, it’s the sole reason that I am replying this topic. Cuz, any form Of news clips, editorialized paper or Online like this forum, when the subject of Somalia’s future surfaces, I have noticed Majority of reasonable Somalis tend to ignore, as if all hopes faded away. I’ll give you one example that would turn the most eagerly Optimist Somali to a harden pessimist, -At the transitional government, they have divided power at 4.5% along clan lines, which made near perfect government sharing of its people, but with the horror twist of Qabiil politics. And since the 270 parliament and its ministers consist of virtually every warlord in Somalia….why on earth a foreign troops are needed?, who are they to disarm? Virtually every militia has its leader in this government from the bottom up. What defies logic is, a foreign government has to came in and forcefully disarm a militia that has its leader sitting in the government, clearly there are players in here who are perpetuating more atrocities to came in Somalia. It’s an other layer that makes an average free thinking Somali Question, what have we learned from 15 years of severing. The world is moving faster pace then it ever has, and Somalia is in the hands of feeble-minded thugs, and worst yet they are not even able to disarm themselves, I say lets get ready for an other 15 years. I believe the TRC might not apply to the Somali way of conflict resolution; TRC could be applied to more classic conflict resolution. Contrary to many other conflicts, the Somali tribal wars are unique and dirty. For an optimist every seemingly single forward step in the Somali conflict, the progress takes 2 steps back, One clan’s mortal enemy chances as fast as its tyrannical warlord finds different and more lethal ways to gain richness. Since, the start of this bloody civil war dozens of clans have became friends, foes and then friends. TRC might work when the atrocities committed are b/t two tribes like the case of Rwanda(Hutu & Tutsi) or two countries. But in Somalis case where it involves multiple clans and sub-clans, setting up Tribunal for seeking truth in Somalia might Prompt fresh negative energy that does more harm then good. I believe it makes the process more complex and create more resentment then reconciliation. Also, for us it will surely open more wounds for the victim and never protect the accused aggressor, it will only harden the mistrust, and hatred among people. So instead of the TRC, I would say the “Somali Forgiveness Committee†or SFC, where any two clans that had a direct fighting, sit down each other and ask for forgiveness among their Somali brethrens. Ooops, I hope the SFC abbreviation is not used by a warlord.
  6. I was watching CNN in the wee hours of the morning when I saw correspondent of Salon.com and a staff reporter with the Wall Street Journal, named Asra Nomani an Indian born Muslim who wrote a new book called “Standing Alone in Meccaâ€. She has a court date in few weeks where she is taking her local mosque to court, when she walked in to Morgantown, Va mosque and demanded that she be allowed to use the same entrance with men and pray alongside men. Demonizing Islamic community is nothing new, but taking mosque to court in order to bend Islamic traditions/beliefs is whole different matter, But it sure is consistence with the noise Ayan Hersi is making in Europe.
  7. An artifical islands consisting of continents of the world, costing $US 1.8 billion project. I ain’t surprised at all, and why would any one see this as a progress? Only Carab dhulka Oil ka helay uunbaa waxaas samaynkaro, Through their distorted perceived progress, courting western appraisals and the title’s “Disneyland†of the Desert is consuming their resources, makes you wonder why the combined GDP of all 22 Arab Countries is less than that of Spain. Over 67 million adult Arabs who are illiterate, How tragic that many people in the Arab world can even read this article. These Arab business men have chosen to spend on $1.8 billion on a artifical islands rather than BOOKS. Instead of seeing progress, we should see this as the same light as the enormous palaces, planes, boats, and mansions in Europe and America owned by the likes of these people.

  11. ^Somalis Vs any Authority an endless battle, even a faceless Admins. I am not for Admin on though-policing any one here….But they have every right to Monitor and intervene, Just because the URL has Somalia in it doesn’t mean its owned by Somalis. the admin deleted your posts….re-post it if it means that much to you….no need to slander the Admin’s intentions so publicly. I for one don’t envy Admin’s job, if they delete a post on the merit that a particular post doesn't meet SOL forum policies they are branded “clan biasâ€, if they let every member say or discuss freely they run the risk of creating a forum for Morons and Clanists to insult each other.
  12. excellent article, it accurately depicts the war economy phenomenon and its proponents. "Opportunistic businessmen, criminals, traders, and the rebel organizations themselves... may-lust for violence and thereby establish profitable structures out of war that is then, in turn, self stabilizing........that war is deliberately prolonged". "The warlords have neither an ideology nor a political agenda. Their actions are solely driven by the Pursuit of illicit enrichment and war booty."
  13. Make better use of immigrants' skills think-tank: Underutilizing newcomers' abilities costs economy $2 billion a year: study Tuesday, February 01, 2005 Canada must act to fully utilize immigrants' skills and education, an economic think-tank says, adding that market forces alone won't solve problems that have both financial and social costs. "The employment prospects of new immigrants relative to those of native-born Canadians are worsening, even as immigrants' educational qualifications have improved," University of Toronto professor Jeffrey Reitz says in a study released yesterday by the Institute for Research on Public Policy in Montreal. Foreign-educated immigrants earn $2.4 billion a year less than native-born Canadians with comparable skills, because they work in occupations below their skill levels, it says. The cost to the Canadian economy of that underutilization of immigrants' skills is about $2 billion a year, it adds. One key reason for the large gap in earnings is that immigrants who do gain access to professional fields often hit a glass ceiling preventing them from promotion to senior management, the study says. The earnings disadvantages of highly educated immigrants in occupations outside the professional fields are even larger than those within it. For example, the net earnings of immigrant men with bachelors or post-graduate degrees in occupations outside the knowledge sector is anywhere from a quarter to a third less than native-born Canadians with similar education. However, the costs of not utilizing immigrants' skills and education go beyond money and threaten the social fabric of the country, the study says. Social problems that could emerge include increased demands on the social safety net, more widespread public perception of immigrants as a liability, and political reaction on the part of immigrants themselves, it says. These are problems that will not go away, and will potentially worsen, if action to resolve them is not taken, according to the study, which proposes: - More information on Canada and its job market, including credential assessment services, and regulated trades and professions, be provided before and after immigrants arrive. - More support for those who assess immigrants' skills and credentials, and employers and immigrants be made more aware of such services. - Subsidize internships and mentoring programs for immigrants. - Ethnic diversity issues be included in human resources management training. - Recognize best practices among employers in hiring or integrating immigrants. - Implement bridge-training programs to top-up immigrants' skills and to fill occupational gaps. - Improve society's sensitivity to racial diversity issues. "In effect, Canada needs a new immigration strategy," it concludes. Eric Beauchesne The Ottawa Citizen

  19. Moving beyond the petty name callin’…What do you really know about the shari’ah?. Its necessary to understand what the Shari’ah stands and where it was derived from, before the ambivalence over it, other then the continuous Slandering, manipulating about the truth of Islam by the media-machine. Also, where do get your info that the Authoritarian Monarchy in Saudi Arabia or the most repressive dictator in Cairo are the models of Islamic governance?. These tyrants have exploited Islam to the appeasement of their master’s, its those that preach “freedom†around the world that are propping up these despots regardless of ethical or moral standards with out the shame of double standards. Like it or not the Shari`ah derives its force primarily from Koranic provisions and the guidance of the Prophet Muhammad(saw) The Shari`ah upholds for the individual freedom of conscience, the freedom of choice, the right to privacy and the right to private property, Islam did all of those long before Greeks uttered these “Freedom†words. Its ironic lots of (Muslims) don’t have faith in our Diin, and we are let to believe that any Muslim who wants to adhere the revival of the Islam indiscriminately lumped together as 'Fundamentalist', ‘irrational’ and ‘uncivilized’. And the Country, in which Islam flourishes are categorised as "materially backward", ‘fanatical’, the first proponents and believers of these malevolent and exaggerated propaganda’s are Muslims them-selves due to our unwilling to learn Islam. But good thing 4 you the Iraqi Election is almost underway, watch n’ enjoy the “Freedom†of Democracy in Iraq as it reaches its pinnacle there.
  20. The word democracy originates from the Greek δημοκÏατíα from δημος meaning "the people", plus κÏατειν meaning "to rule", and the suffix íα; the term therefore means "rule by the people." What is democracy?. Does it serve the interest of the people? …The definition of democracy doesn’t mean leaders serving the interest of the people nor does’t mean the “rule of lawâ€, but the true definition of Democracy is the “rule by the peopleâ€, If we are under the elusion that western governments serve the interest of the people, we are very much in danger, of being part of the Muslims who are conquered ideologically, western governments serve the interest of big business, western governments serve the interest of multi-national corporations. Government in the western world serve the interest of the ruling elite, but they create an elision, and make it seem to the people that what they are doing is for the good of the people. But that is not their primary interest, their primary interest is the ruling elite and the aligned capitalist usury system and not necessarily serving the interest of the masses. In this context, Islam has a set of norms and values that emphasizes the equality of people, the accountability of leaders to community, and the respect of diversity and other faiths, since Muslim proponents of Democracy use these Islamic values to support their interest, yet they ignore the most basic and fundamental aspect of Democracy. Democracy in its essence contradicts Islam, democracy fundamentally contradicts Towheed. Islam upholds that Allah(swt) is Al-xaakim, Allah(swt) is al-xakiim, Allah(swt) is al-maalik. Allah(swt) - is the king, he is the wise, he is the judge, he is the law-maker. We Muslims are supposed to judge on what Allah(swt) has revealed, But democracy says we ought to judge by what the people decide, Democracy says its not that Allah(swt) that who is a sovereign, it’s the people that are sovereign. And what the people decide is moral that is moral, what people decide is immoral that is indeed immoral. What the people decide is good that is good, and what the people decide is evil that is evil. That is Democracy, and it fundamentally contradicts Islam, it contradicts the basic belief of the Islamic teaching. Democracy has a whole different philosophical out look then that of Islam and what the materialistic secular societies want in the form of democracy. Democracy upholds the belief that man’s laws are superior to God’s laws. In contrary, in Islamic methodology Allah(swt) is the sole creator and sustainer of the Worlds, in this capacity, Allah (SWT) revealed His divine guidance to humanity, made certain things permissible and others prohibited, set the boundaries of aggression and transgression, what is good and evil, …etc, and commanded people observe His injunctions and to judge according to them. Yet, proponents of Democracy advocate Muslims to consider religion as exactly the same framework as the secular western societies consider religion. As the saying goes give God what belongs to God and give Caesar what belongs to Caesar. Their ideas of religion is individuals own personal affair, it has nothing to do with the laws we live by, the economic system, International affairs, human rights, religion is just your personal ways that you relate to GOD. Therefore they want to create condition in which Muslim societies are secularized and to a curtain extend exceeded in few predominantly Muslim Countries in tilting to secular materialistic Islamic states. "Secularism" is a doctrine, by definition that tantamount to the idea that religion and state are different and separable entities. To be secular' means to `be oriented toward this age.’, to change/adjust or even update your believes with the changing times. Secularism is compatible with the Western concept of God which maintains that after God had created the world, He left it to look after itself. In this sense, God’s relationship with the Secular-world is like that of a carmaker with a car: he makes it then leaves it to function without any need for him. This concept is totally different from that of Islam. In Islam Allah(swt) is the omnipotent and omniscient as well as the sustainer of the existence of everything in and between the heavens and the earth.. Consequently, Islam is a comprehensive system of worship (`ibadah) and a legislation (Shari`ah), a complete way of life, the acceptance of secularism means abandonment of Shari`ah, a denial of the divine guidance and a rejection of Allah’s injunctions; It is indeed a false claim that Shariah is not proper to the requirements of the present age. The acceptance of a legislation formulated by humans means a preference of the humans’ limited knowledge and experiences to the divine guidance: "Say! Do you know better than Allah?" (2:140). Salam!
  21. Can A pregnant Wife Divorce her Husband? The answer is yes, there are two methods in Islam that are guiding principle in these matters and they are: Fasakh and Khulu'. I have no knowledge, I am indeed an student of our beautiful Diin, so, I am gona refer this excellent article. It will clearly tell you different options that are open to any women who wants to divorce regardless of the situation she is in, the article is titled: "women and Divorce From The Islamic Perspective†http://bismikaallahuma.org/Women/divorce.htm As you will see in the article, pregnant women, the 3 menstrual cycles (or three months for women without menses) is extended to until she gives birth to the baby. You must also know, Islam has the must humane and just divorce system on earth. No Muslim woman on earth is married with out her consent, otherwise that marriage is based on flaw belief. I still wouldn’t advice divorce, but since there is an abuse involve and no one-else but you know exactly what you are going through, I strongly recommend that you goto the Mosque at your local community. With out you having any reservations or being shy about the whole situation. Explain The Imam the delicate situation that you find your self into, I am sure he will respect/protect your privacy and guide you the right direction. Also, a person’s life in this world is not stable: One passes through alternating periods of happy marriage and divorce, happiness and dismay, strength and weakness. Wealth and poverty, health and sickness etc. A true believer is one who maintains a clear level of Imaan throughout the worldly fluctuations. He/she continues to remember Allah and ascribe the bounties to Him; and he/she turns to Him in submission, asking for relief from his affliction. This is described by the Prophet (SAW) who said: " Indeed amazing are the affairs of a believer ! They are all for his benefit; If he is granted ease of living he is thankful; and this is best for him. And if he is afflicted with a hardship, he perseveres; and this is best for him." [ Muslim ] Here is a verse from our Noble Quran: Allah(SW):says[…....Do people think that they will be left alone because they say, We believe, and will not be tested? Indeed We tested those who (lived) before them] Al-Ankaboot 29/1-3 You should not feel terrible, just because marriage didn’t go smoothly as you have imagined it. We should know that Allah(sw) puts obstacle on our path not to punish us, but to test our Emaan. May allah(sw) help you and bestowed on his mercy. Marriages in our communities are coming a part except those that are based in adherence with our Diin and the sunna of the Prophet(saw). So, if you ever get married again do it the right way from the get-go, pray 2 sunna’ for it, make sure its solely based on other person’s Imaan, their fear of Allah(sw), And not their worldly gatherings Still, may allah(sw) help heal and reconcile your home, so you wouldn’t need a divorce. Allah(sw) knows the Best Salam!
