  1. you mean you liked superbad and knockedup??? yeah, this movie is completely different. for one thing, its targetting a slightly smarter crowd (yeah, the dialogue is smart, tongue in cheek, and aimed at people who need their intellect validated by understanding big words... i fall into that categuory)

i like the white stripes version better
  4. this whole discussion is looking at relationships in a completely superficial level. why be surprised with superficial answers?
  5. UD, is it out of love and compassion that a man can benevolently marry an illiterate woman?? or is it all the other benefits he would get from said wife? lets trade education for looks. how willing are women to marry men who are not that physically attractive? how willing are men to marry women who are not physically attractive? alot of this is due to our social make-up and what roles each genders are supposed to play. dont hate the player, hate the game.
  6. Someone help this brother out. Hes crying for help. HOOK A BROTHER UP!!! Sol should form some sort of committe to find this guy a good match. Look at how much he contributes. some of you must know him well, are you saying you dont know anyone who would be good for him? (i dont know him all that well, he might be a psycho for all i know. no offence Cadaan)
  7. Are guys spoilt for choice? Having the luxury to choose, whilst girls wait until approached by the desirable kind, then and only then to make the choice..Whilst men,can mix and match until their heart desire..[just thinking out loud].. [/QB] i dont think so, but we have the mentality that we are supposed to wait to be picked... khadija, the mother of the believers, went out and chose her man (pbuh). the power to control our destinies (which Allah swt ultimately controls) is in our hands, but we concede it to the other side. there are a VAST number of good brothers, looking for marriage and some are comfortable with being the one taking the first step, but its a step that makes someone vulnerable, no matter the gender and social roles we play. i wish i could follow my own advice though. im the first to pull this card of "be in control" and "take ownership", but im a real chicken. im trying to overcome it though.

    amazing ayah

the first 10-11 ayats of surat-ul-mu'minuun Surah 23. The Believers 1. The believers must (eventually) win through,- 2. Those who humble themselves in their prayers; 3. Who avoid vain talk; 4. Who are active in deeds of charity; 5. Who abstain from sex, 6. Except with those joined to them in the marriage bond, or (the captives) whom their right hands possess,- for (in their case) they are free from blame, 7. But those whose desires exceed those limits are transgressors;- 8. Those who faithfully observe their trusts and their covenants; 9. And who (strictly) guard their prayers;- 10. These will be the heirs, 11. Who will inherit Paradise: they will dwell therein (for ever).
  9. how does one expain why it the word stup!d gets censored, but nigger gets a pass?
  10. i was trying to find an article, with no success. if any of you know it, please post it. its about a young girl who witnessed a shooting when she was about 11 years old, and when the article is written she was 19 (a couple of months ago). anyways, she wasnt the only one to witness the shooting, but the only one to step forward. they offered her witness protection, she relocated and than she was told her grandmother is passing away so she sneaked into her old neighbourhood to visit her grandma one last time. that very day, she was gunned down, and the police suspect it was the entourage of the man she saw pull a trigger. the legal system in the US is sad that a case should be out of courts for 8 years. of course now that the only witness to his crime is dead, he gets to walk free. it seems these gangs have more power in these neighbourhoods than the police do, and i blame the police. why couldnt they provide her with proper security? why did the case have to wait this long to be done with? so many why's.
  11. omg, you guys are discussing arranged? i saw that movie a while ago, im trying to get it as a rental for the next girls night.
  12. just me... thats kind of the point. my procrastination takes on interesting avenues whenever i have pressing issues. do you have any crazy theories youd like to share? it doesnt have to be all michael.
  13. im sorry for your loss isseh; to allaah we belong, and to allah we return. find something that will make you laugh regardless (like a monty python movie, or something) my story will be on hiatus for a short while since i have an important deadline to meet. tell me what you think though, because it really was freestyled, though i had the plot in my mind for a while now. are any of you interested in the characters so far?
  14. about half a mile from her house is an abandoned well; completely useless, and has been for generations. only the neighbouring children use it for their games. the elders of the village are the only ones left who can remember the story surrounding it, and very few of them believe it anymore. camabarro briskly makes her way to the well, and whilst making its circumference, is watching, looking for something. "ahem" erect like a meerkat, she inhales and veers around. in front of her is a young girl, tall and slender with a short cropped hair cut. she has on a man's dress shirt, a macaawis and is chewing on a tooth pick. camabarro tries her best to suppress a laughter "what did you do to yourself" she finally exclaims, trying to get a hold of the girls head. " you look..." "like a man? thats the point stup!d" camabarro is visibly confused. - my cousin from Canada is visiting, and apparently Im the main attraction.' she give a slight scowl, and rolls her eyes. 'Im just making sure when he leaves, he leaves alone. - but how do you know he is coming for you? -I dont, but I know what Abbe wants. - but its your cousin, he'll know abti has a daughter named Deqo and no sons...he's just going to think youre crazy. - yeah, and? anyways, the plan seems to have backfired. hes not interested in marriage. turns out he just wants to hang out with the oldies and listen to poetry' she sits on the ground indian style, and pats her hair 'it'll grow.' she says confidently, but with a questoin in her eyes. cambarro bites her lower lip, trying to suppress a chuckle and asks - so what made you keep the get-up, huh? if youve met your cousin and all? you gonna start peeing standing up too? she lets go of a giggle, which cascades into a sea of uncontrallable giggles, filled with awkward inhales and snorts. cambarro, for all her youth, has yet to find ease in the pleasures of the heart, not even the simple ones such as laughter. -no im keeping it on. my cousin may know im a woman, but the rest of the city doesnt. come on, Ill take you somewhere youve never been to. she gets up and reaches her hand to Cambaro, -c'mon. i promise you'll have fun, and youll be back before maghrib. Cambarro hesitated. its one thing to step out on the porch while mother is sleeping, or even walk a half mile to meet a friend, but going off in the city, her mother may not approve. she knew seynab dsnt have a favorable opinion of deqo, which is why she kept her friendship secret. well, she thought, at least no one will tell her she was with deqo seeing as no one can recognize her. - okay, but we'd better be back before maghrib.
  15. cambarro had an appointment today that just couldnt wait. ever since her father passed away the house has been quiet; the spice of life has been missing, no laughter. it wasnt because they were too shy to laugh, it wasnt that at all. in fact, since the death, cambarro and her mother have started getting closer, even sharing intimate details. seynab, cambarro's mother, was always a stern woman and never particularly affectionate. even Hassan, her clear favorite, can rarely give her a hug without her pushing away. however uninterested cambaro was, the details just kept pouring out though. how they met, how affectionate he was. how beautiful and loved thye both were. his infidelity, his attempt to do right by this other woman and marry her. cambarro always knew her parents werent story book, but to her, all this resonated of the mundane and the domestic; its all so tiresome and yet unexherting, she thought. today however, she has an appointmet and the monotony can finally be broken with some music, maybe even some laughter. as she is finishing up drying the dishes, she pauses and puts the dish in her hand aside, and listens. the opportune moment can slip undetected. she waits a moment, and stretches her ears to hear something, she doesnt know exactly for what signal. silence. she picks up the dish again, and rubs it dry. puts it aside and takes another dish and continues the cycle. clink pat pat clunk clink pat pat clunk clink she hears something. the heat rises to her face, and she welcomes it with a smile. like a trained pigeon she sets out to find the trail.
  16. for those watching maybe. what about team sports? soccer, basket ball? are women more independant in how they spend their time, than men? i ask this, because guys, i find, are more comfortable playing group sports where as girls... it depends on the group. any validity to my theory? or am i just projecting my patriarchal upbringing?
  17. i really think he has vitiligo, and started bleaching to even out his skin. the hair, nose and chin... well, he just removed his manly bits and i think he got a little too free with the self manipulation. thats my theory. plus, it facilitates his little boy image; the make-up and girliness, that is.
  18. i just read the first sentence... i hope he converts. ya Allah, please guide us.
  19. Originally posted by Urban: So one of wondered if it was just a bleach, and if he actually bleached his man piece as well, or if he left his nut sack still black.. You should write an essay about that. a combination of the above sentence, you're avatar, and the image that popped into my brain as a result, caused me to clasp my hand over my eyes, and vomit just a little... my theory still stands, he was castrated. so no bits to bleach. his color i have no theory for, although i have noticed that he really identifies himself as black in his videos (even in his Casper days). like he'll be hanging with the brothers, hi5'ing and ish (check the way you make me feel video), or he'll have things really afro-centric (Remember the times)... its kind of odd. you cant really link the two together ie his apparent self hatred as a black man, and his strong identificatin with african american history (even the black and white song/video, purpose is to discuss racism in amercia, no?) he is an enigma, wrapped in a riddle.
  20. thats a good looking camel, i dont care what anyone says. *cues music* "youre just too good to be truuuee cant take my eyes off of you-ou"
  21. salaam to all. sometimes, when I have pressing issues (like a deadline to meet, and multiple essays), I find ways to diverge my attention. This month, Ive been analyzing Michael Jackson via the information we know about him from mainstream media, and his repertoire of songs and music videos. I have come up with a theory that explains the king of pop's mania, and supposed penchant for young boys. I think, I have reason to believe, that Michael Jackson is castrated!!! Now I have yet to have conclusive evidence for this, but it explains so much, and really alot of things about his behavior starts to fall in to place when you use this theory. 1) his constant crotch grabbing 2) his macho pandering in videos (watch "the way you make me feel", dude is a borderline rapist... total over compensation.) 3) his high voice 4) his body 5) his lack of body hair 6) his children, who were conceived via artificial incemination 7)his failed marriages 8)his friendship with prepubescent boys (and yet his ultra-macho pandering in videos)... these boys are the only ones who understand him. i feel sooo sorry for the man. now the question that is left is, did he do this to himself (i mean, we know he is a bit of a megalomaniac)? he was most likely a late bloomer anyhow, and a bass voice for the squeaky voiced lead of the jackson 5 would never win over audiences... did he do this to himself, or did his father, whom we have reason to believe to be abusive towards him and his siblings, force it??? im not crazy, i just like wasting time by thinking of michael. do you guys have any conspiracy theories? what do you think of my theory? does it hold any weight? i wish i could hand in an essay about this.
