  1. ^^^thats partly due because we have no large base of literature in aff somali. somali is largely an oral language, and it can't compete with the language we utilize and are exposed to on a day to day basis. culture i think we can retain, but the way we interpret it will obviously be modified by the dominant culture we live in. but than again, with globalization, somalia itself may be changing the same way diasporic communities are.
  2. one action? im currantly in the midst of quitting biting my nails. thats the closest thing i have to a compulsion. any history in mental diseases in family (not including depression)? if so, how do you deal with said relative?
  3. *imagines liiban behind mobile bush with binoculars* you forgot to ask a question. without looking at the boards stats, how many lurkers do you think there are?????? does it creep you out?
  4. serious question... is it that serious? from an islamic pov. i mean, sometimes i look at my moms and aunties and i see they dont make a big deal about the fore-arms showing, especially if theyre working. so is there are a ruling on forearms showing when working? imagine the geel jiire nomads, i doubt they were worrying about their forearms. i mean i admire these womens level of commitment to islamic modesty, bt my question is, is it absolutely necessary?
  5. was born in saudi arabia, and left there when i was three. during our stay in saudi, we would visit somalia regularly, but i dnt remember. because this really intrigues me, cadaan, what made you so interested in somalia? please feel free to go into details or to tell me to mind my own business. general question: when was the last time you doodled.

Seriously, feet smell and they remind me of fungus. My question: How do you keep your concentration in salaah? This has become really hard for me these past few days. imaginiation and patience, the ingredients to a great salah. imagine its your last prayer, and yr moments away from being shown your book of deeds. this will make you more aware of what your saying, yr posture, and will consume yr thoughts. plus, take yr time with each posture and learn all the meanings of what you are saying in arabic, and think of their significance. make dua's for yourself in sujuud. make dua's for yrself and bro's and sis' after salaah. there is a dua, i believe the prophet muhammad used to say (pbuh) allahumma cini cala dhikrik, wa shukrik, wa xusni cibadatika which roughly translates to : oh Allah, help me to remember you, thank You and to remember You in the best of manners.amiin.
  10. my father, and, because im quite proud of this, i will share this piece of unsolicited information: i'm my dad's favourite. in fact, i think i won my mom a couple of years ago. *laughs maniacally* q: is it normal to have to work hard to keep sibling relationships? and are you ever allowed to keep the ball on the other side of the court?
  11. take the money and run, than bury it, than pray for forgiveness and never refer to the money or how it came into your posession... i got ish-shoes! q: do you take care of your health? how far on the list is it in your priorities?

  13. i just wanted to interject w a lil info. bro ameen, so i'm reading your blog, learning about ya and i see there is a question you ask all potential wifeys and that question has found itself in this thread... i failed. peace.
  14. dude, never say never. i remember when ppl on sol were talking about somalia not having an aids problem because "we're muslims"... search on old sol topics, im sure we discussed it here. granted, there are factors contributing to these stories that are less common in somalia (i mean, sure we're dysfunctional, but we have an extended family system nonetheless that curbs that family mania a bit). besides, those stories aren't actually that common. they just feel that way because we have 24hour news stations that need to keep their ratings up. we have murderers in somalia, rapists, drug addicts etc. alhamdulillah, i think because of the structure in our society (the base of which is islam and family) it isn't as common as other places in the world, but i still dont think we're more sharaff. i mean, even within somalia, there is more crime in the big cities than in rural areas, why is that? because there are different societal rules, there is less of a factor of neighbours watching, its more anonymous, it invites elements from all types of different backgrounds. in england, during the renaissnace era there was a rise in std's partly due to the influx of people in cities, where they felt less inhibited by social constraints (ie neighbours watching) and cuckoldry was a very common phenomenon. i really dont believe there are a people innately better than another, our quran refutes that.
  15. talk to her, spend time with her, and please make her laugh... more importantly make her feel important. mom's don''t get this alot, and they don't hear "i love you" alot... in fact im pretty sure theyve heard their share of "i hate you"'s coupled with "i cant believe your doing this to me" finished with the ever popular "you're the worst mom ever!" getting somali moms to pamper themselves is difficult. your gift may be wasted unless you make it a point that she uses *insert pampering item you want to buy*. the only way i can get my mom to go to a hairdresser is if i invite/pay for her sister to come along, that way its a group thing for her. seriously though, make her feel appreciated, itll go a long way.
  16. uhmm, am i like the only spoiled somali? i totally see somalia as this place where everyboyd has an a.k, including your grandma... personally im not scared, but if i were a non somali i would be. geel-jire... poverty in somalia is different than poverty in u.s., meaning people robbing in somalia are doing it for food or to provide for family, most likely, where as here, where there is a real drug problem in inner cities, if you get robbed its, most likely, for drug money, hence the difference in technique. i wouldnt say that somali criminals are more sharaff than your average criminal, although those were some very gentlemanly thieves you ran into.
  17. the women section is discussing one topic in particular which sort of ties in with islam... you know what im sayin' q : is it hypocritical to nurture a dual personality?

Speaking about weddings, I have been invited to few this coming summer. I am looking forward to them ....the only time i get to see good looking guys is at the weddings where they wear suits.Something abt their suits makes them stand out, even the ugliest among them. i may see u at one of those weddings, and i never go to weddings. i've been sanctioned to attend this one. i wont say more, but im pretty sure the entire toronto somali community will be there. *shivers*
