  4. Interesting read! Over 200,000 innocent lives from all walks of life were killed in that attack...read how Truman justified the atomic use against city dwellers. " Such reasoning will not impress anyone who fails to see how the brutality of the Japanese military could justify deadly retaliation against innocent men, women, and children. Truman doubtless was aware of this, so from time to time he advanced other pretexts. On August 9, 1945, he stated: "The world will note that the first atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima, a military base. That was because we wished in this first attack to avoid, insofar as possible, the killing of civilians."89 This, however, is absurd. Pearl Harbor was a military base. Hiroshima was a city, inhabited by some three hundred thousand people, which contained military elements. In any case, since the harbor was mined and the U.S. Navy and Air Force were in control of the waters around Japan, whatever troops were stationed in Hiroshima had been effectively neutralized. On other occasions, Truman claimed that Hiroshima was bombed because it was an industrial center. But, as noted in the U.S. Strategic Bombing Survey, "all major factories in Hiroshima were on the periphery of the city – and escaped serious damage."90 The target was the center of the city. That Truman realized the kind of victims the bombs consumed is evident from his comment to his cabinet on August 10, explaining his reluctance to drop a third bomb: "The thought of wiping out another 100,000 people was too horrible," he said; he didn’t like the idea of killing "all those kids."91 Wiping out another one hundred thousand people . . . all those kids. ^^Nomad folly is exposed through wit, the NGONGE’s way or Nur’s subliminal messages he used to post before he accepted the duel match with the virtual sects...that’s how is done my friends not the unmanly underhand salvo that some of us aim to the unsuspecting nomad characters surfacing the SOL or the confrontational, up to your face insults...hear! hear! the maestro has spoken. DA, I’ve read somewhere that the “trouble with people is not that they don't know but that they know so much that ain't soâ€. Few folks in this forum acknowledge their ignorance in Islamic jurisprudence. Most nomads act as if they are scholars! I don’t know why? If I can say in a nice way you are one of them...no pun intended okay.

  7. Racist encounters? many many of them n I gues if u live in the States u r bound to meet someone who is full of himself... I was driving back fron Dassel, MN (small town about 60 miles west from Twin Cities)...cruising within speed limit between two cars. Now this trooper who was going the opposite direction made a sudden U turn passed the car behind me and activated the siren. I stopped the car and as usual he ran the #'s on his lil computer and couldn't find anything on me so I asked him why he stopped me. He said I was speeding and went back to his car after what seemed a long time he come back with speeding ticket. My only option was to see him in court...
  8. SS, Whyy do men wanna cheat? I know why! u wanna hear it ok. They wanna cheat cuz they all (cheaters that is) have this one common pal! Once you get hooked with this pal there is no way that u would wanna disregard his instinct womenizing skills. He is their eternal buddy and he knows his game very well. What was his name again?
  9. So Viking, in ur last post, you have agreed with NGONGE noh? Truthseeker, Yesterday is dead. (Nostalgic history...our Islamic golden age...that was once upon time tale!) Tomorrow is unborn. (Khalifa is our goal...as they say courage and effort are not enough without purpose and direction. We have work to do and we hope it to be the practical one that will deliver the desirable result.) Today. (Today we are weak, backward, poor, and scattered people. Each to his own...first we have to catch up, make peace when possible and only fight when we have to...all the while we keep the purpose and direction to our goal in mind) Is this something acceptable to you. After all, we all want same thing - dignified, prosperous, just, self-dependant, glorious Islamic Khalifa.
  10. Does he have political ambitions? I doubt it Gediid. The reason being he knows damn well the minute he get into the fray, his good name will just disappear and he would be considered as just ina hebel from reer Qansax. The other reason is he has no base! his followings are limited to the elites and so-called educated folks who often want to point fingers from distance without putting their fat feet on the sand dunes of that semi-arid, hot, and anarchiac Somalia. He will even risk losing some of these supporters the minute he reveals his opinion on Somaliland, Puntland, TNG, and other hot political issues. For these reasons, I think he would stay above it and continue to contribute through other venues. Just a thought!
  11. I'm saddened even more when I read this able writer's description of the Somalia that I once knew and his relevant observations... Sad indeed...calaa caleyk

  15. NGONGE, You have a point, saaxiib. I can see things from both your and Truthseeker's prespectives. This issue has many different angles that one can weigh in...! I think West is a force to reckon with. Through security council, sanction measures, IAEA, WTP, World Bank/IMF, and other venues, they excert control on the rest of the world. It so happened, by a mere chance, that most of energy reserves are under Islamic soils. Oil is essential to West's industrial infrastructure to function. It follows that West has a compelling interest to see the flow of oil uninterrupted. Establishment of Islamic, or even responsible democratic government in the rich oil countries that undesrtand what the oil leverage at their disposal can accomplish, or any other shrewd government that wants to diversify its economy, build technological base, invest its people, and rely on its own defence without taking any orders from anyone else will not be welcomed by the powers that exist today. I bet they will label them a rogue nation and it will be considered as a threat, the conventional wisdom goes, to their national security. Therefore, any movement that dares to create the conditions that you alluded to will hear from uncle Sam. No? My POINT is that west is a factor. I want us to do all the things you have outlined in your last paragraph but I'm not sure how! In fact I have no clue and as far as I'm concerned the Khalifa is Utopia that I fall in love with. Untill that day comes let's be at it - anger n cries that is! It is catch 22! It is dog eats dog world.
  16. Hey Waaq wlc back. I agree the need for educated populace who are receptive to the Islamic governance and its political, economical, and social dictates and directives. I also agree that power corrupts and if it is left in the hands of few without the majalis and independent Islamic scholars serving as check they could be another tyrannical group. I have to also agree that the true Islamic knowledge as of today, have not reached the critical mass in Somalia. That much is agreed. But, Waaq you seem to be comparing apples with oranges. As of today, I know no Islamic government in existence perhaps for the one exception (Iran - debatable). So Waaq the real world you referring to can and should have a chance to see what the real Islamic government is look like. Many folks out there say half-heartedly that they embrace the Islamic government and yet at the same breath throw so many roadblocks that amounts to nothing short of NO it is not feasible/attainable. Wa salaam

  19. Brothers: Nur, Mutakalim, Al kowneyn, and Viking, Most of us are laymen when it comes to many subjects and this subject is one of them. We the nomads, if I can speak for them, have been inundated with excerpts from books we don’t have access to, with ahadith we never heard of, and with claims and counter claims we have no way of knowing. For the sake of decency (even though we are all screen characters still...), please listen to each other for once and before you jump around here and there address the matter at hand. We have so many topics on the same subjects! I have two questions, and I’m asking all the knowledgeable folks I named this post; 1. Are the books Nur referenced in this post authentic book in the Shia world? 2. If they are, do you consider them as a source of our religion that we Muslims should follow?

  22. Who is on the offensive? Peace? In the Lebanon conference the participants (Arab League) adopted a resolution put forward by Saudis, in it they offered peace to Israel and vowed that they will normalize relations with Israel. Brother, you sound as if the Muslims are on the offensive! I agree that we ought to build our infrastructure, embrace the technology, diversify the economy, and so on. But are they going to let you manage your affairs and get stronger...NO and that’s big NO. Today the seem to justify their actions on WMD grounds. Tomorrow, it will be on hijab and the women issues...the day after it will be something else. We are in a fix and I for one don’t know the answer...all I know is it won’t be that simple. They need to have an enemy to sustain their huge industrial-military complex. Ditto! they found one, the best one...the war on “terrorâ€, as Bush said it is about saving the civilization from the evil and it will take forever till the end of time. We are in a big fix and it takes a miracle to find a way out of this one.
  23. Food for thought: In the Peloponesian war, the Athenians ask the inhabitants of Melos (they were neutral in the war), to come under their lordship. When Meleans asked why would they give up their freedom. "The powerful exact what they can," said the Athenians, "and the weak grant what they must." Meleans replied that they would rather appeal to their Gods for protection than to become slaves. Athenians responded, "Of the gods we believe and of men we know that, by a law of their nature, wherever they can rule they will. This law was not made by us, and we are not the first to have acted upon it; we did but inherit it, and we know that you and all mankind, if you were as strong as we are, would do as we do. So much for the gods; we have told you why we expect to stand as high in their good opinion as you." The Meleans still refused to bow down to the Athenians. "The Athenians," Thucydides quietly says, "thereupon put to death all who were of military age and made slaves of the women and children. They then colonized the island, sending thither five hundred settlers of their own.†Excerpts are from the essay by William James titled “The Moral equivalent of war†Are Iraqis better off to cooperate and to accept the American lordship? Or are they better off to resist and risk all knowing that their adversary is as powerful and determined as Athenians were in their time? Freedom, faith, and family, are these causes worth dying? Are the insurgents and kidnapers wrong in their tactics and their approach or are they wrong in not realizing that the war they are engaged is not a winnable one?
