  1. Librarian, Here it is see if you can make these books available for the regular Somali readers. Even though this school is located in the States they got these materials from UK namely from BBC and the Oriental School of London (I'm not sure the latter). I really appreciate the effort you put in serving your readers especially Somalis. That is very nice of you.
  2. Milk, Sxb, don't you bet on any politician in Somali politics for they are sun flowers (gabal daye)...they don't have political platforms that one can examine and lend their support to. Dr. Galeyr, soft-spoken and the snake in the grass, is a shrewd politician whose political ambitions knows no bound. What happened is that these two diametrically opposed characters were forced to share 27 seats. That's the hand that they were dealt in the poker game that's been played in Nairobi. They are fighting tooth and nail to make sure these seats are taken by their supporters so they can count on their votes in the presedential run up. Go ahead and express your views but make sure that you don't put your eggs in their pokets for you will be dissappointed. For all the players in this poker game inna Yusuf Yey is the least politician of all. Too much arrogance and unfounded pride blinded him. He had expelled and made sure that all able and educated Puntlanders polticians lose so that he will be in a solid position to have a shot for the leadership. Now in Nairobi chickens come home to roost. Instead of taking his seat in miis rag leeyahay he has to accept a knockout boxing match with a line of strong, educated, with sack of money Puntlanders. It is more like a Russian roulette...too late. What you raecting to (with bit of emotinal tantrum) is this finalist knockout boxing match. Awoowe indhaha ka daawo and cheer as loud as you can for whoever wins or I'm runnig for the same position (in SOL) and I will really appreciate for your advocacy in the internet .
  3. Dictator that he is and anyone who don't see that side of the caqiidka is in denial. Having said that, I wouldn't overlook the other boyz in the line-up. Qasim, Caato, Qanyare, Jees, Riyale, Yalaxow, Barre Hiiraale, and Co. waa isma dhaanto iyo dhasheed. if you ask me. In his current capacity as the leader of Puntland, he is way better than some of the so-called leaders/warlords south of Galkacyo...but wait some say yeah but the residents there bent backward to put up with him...true that too. Just a thought...spare me for the xag-xagasho plz...aduunyo!! waxayba joogtaa gacan ku gabasho!
  4. Your Excellence Dr. Nur Cag bakeyle, dear SOLers, ladies and gentlemen, I’m running for the most powerful position of the whole civilized continental Africa. Ladies and gentlemen I declare my bid for presidency for all lands of Somalis. With your (SOL nomads) help, I believe together we can win the presidency of the Fragmented Anarchic Lands of Somalia. I have a great plan for all of our lands: Jubaland, Arlaadiland, Midland (announced recently in Hiiraan), Somaliland, Southland, and Puntland. I will make these lands of ours an economic powerhouse in the continent. I have the packing of pm Zanawi of Ethiopia (former classmate), and other leaders of the horn of Africa. He assured me that all he wants is fragmented, decentralized, weak, and peaceful Somalia that is willing to become a partner in the war of terrorism. That’s what you all want. Surely we don’t want a repeat of the tyrannical past. We’ve sought the help of Ethiopians, Kenyans, EU, and former opposition leaders, as well as former ministers of that regime in order to understand what really went wrong in Somalia. They all reached the same conclusion: strong, united Somalia headed by a dictator. I will give the lands a complete regional autonomy answerable to none except to my office. The 875 sub-sub-clan chiefs have already drawn up the Matrix of Responsibilities and forwarded to my campaign manager Dr./Engineer/Sheikh/Xaaji Mudane Libaax Sankataabte. I will decentralize the political system so that the country will have weak and ineffective authority guiding, coordinating, and implementing the long-term interests of the nation. I will make sure that the new bourgeoisie have access to state-regional power. My motto is no warlord, afar-jeeble, and pseudo-businessmen are left behind. My administration will absorb all these malcontents and diffuse future confrontation. I will make the clan identity the center of the Somali political system. Clanism will be encouraged and will be perfectly legal. If I become president with your help, I will nominate the important positions on the basis of your tribal affiliation and it will be permanent entitlement. Surely the most destabilizing factor of Somali political landscape is the idea of meritocracy. This man (points the finger on his chest, nodding his head) will not overlook the importance of clan-power distribution equation. No meritocracy! On my dead body! SOLers this is my promise and you can take it to the bank…read my lips! I understand the importance of gender politics especially in the wake of widespread dispersion of Somalis all over the world. I will nominate Marwo Dr. Raula as my right hand to enforce women’s rights. We will make sure that great Western feminist books be part of the elementary school curriculum. Our young girls must have inspirational women figures to look up to. They will not be disappointed under my benevolent reign. I am a secularists, I am educated in the West, I have 16 degrees, I speak English, and I am against the backward fundamentalist wahabbist ideology. That does not mean that I’m infidel for I’m not. I am a devout rabbici and I’m a devout Qaadiri. ***Due to excessive clapping from the energized and admiring SOLer nomads, the speech is suddenly interrupted…Mudane Dr/Engineer as well as Ispitoore Baashi halts the speech and leaves unexpectedly..****
  5. Shifta wlc back bro. Nuurrow, power-sharing agreement is within reach. The fowda Manifesto, as the contract is called, stipulates that: 1. Pastoral anarchists shall control the levers of power. 2. The folks who reside the riverine agricultural lands shall be raaci – 0.5 shall be their quota and “others†shall be their designated name. 3. Tribal-state-mediated Anarchist capitalists system shall be adopted – there shall be a celebration (Soomaaliyeey toosooy..) to usher in the new United Tribal States. 4. Clan identity shall stay the locus for physical security and military mobilization. 5. Illegal land-grabbing, real estate disputes, and asset acquisition that transpired during the civil war shall not be addressed. These grievances shall sustain the perpetual Anarchism. 6. The winners of the civil war, the brave gun-totting anarchists’ leaders shall be rewarded with the highest offices as a token gesture of the reconciliation. 7. Islamists shall be denied the right for political participation. Terrorists shall be their nickname. Jerk Therapy

Jerk Therapy For all of you who occasionally have a reality bad day, and you just need to take it on someone don’t take it out on someone you know, take it out on someone you don’t know. I was sitting at my desk when I remembered a phone call I had forgotten to make. I found the number, and dialed it. A man answered saying “Hello?†Suddenly, the phone was slammed down on me. I couldn’t believe that anyone could be so rude. I tracked down Robin’s correct number and called her. (I had transposed the last two digits of her phone number). After hanging up with her I decided to call the ‘wrong number again. When the same guy answered the phone, I yelled, “You’re a jerk!†and hang up. I wrote his number down with the word ‘jerk’ next to it and put in my desk drawer. Every couple of weeks, when I was paying bills or had a really bad day, I’d call him. He’d answer and I’d yell. “You’re a jerk!†It always cheered me up. When caller ID came to our area I thought my therapeutic ‘jerk’ calling would have to stop. So, I called his number and said, “Hi, this is John Smith from the Telephone Company. I’m just calling to see if you’re familiar with the caller ID program?†he yelled, “no!†and slammed the phone down. I quickly him back and said, “That’s because you’re a jerk!†One day I was at the store, getting ready to pull into a parking spot. Some guy in a black BMW cut me off and pulled into the spot I had patiently waited for. I hit the horn and yelled that I had been waiting for the spot. The ***** ignored me. I noticed a “For Sale†sign in his car window, so I wrote down his number. A couple of days later, right after calling the first jerk (I had his number on speed dial), I thought I had better call the BMW jerk, too. I dialed and someone said, “Hello?†I said, “Is this the man with the black BMW for sale?†“Yes it is.†“Can you tell me where I can see it?†“Yes I live at 1802 West 34th Street. It’s a yellow house and the car’s parked right out front.†“What’s your name?†I asked. “My name is Don Hansen,†he said. “When’s a time to catch you, Don?†“I’m home every evening after five.†“Listen, Don, can I tell you something?†“Yes?†“Don, you are a jerk!†Then I hang up. And added his number to my speed dial, too. Now, when I had a problem,, I had two jerks to call. But after several months of calling them, it wasn’t as enjoyable as it used to be. So I came up with an idea: I called jerk #1 “Hello†“You’re jerk!†I shouted, but I didn’t hang up. “Are you still there?†he asked. “Yeah,†I said. “Stop calling me!†he screamed. “Make me,†I said. “Who are you?†he asked. “You’ll what?†I said. “I’ll kick your #@!,†he exclaimed. I answered, “Well, jerk, here’s your chance. I’m coming over right now.†Then, I hung up, and immediately called the police saying that I lived at 1802 West34th Street, and I was on my way over there to kill my gay lover. Then, I called Channel 13 news about the gang war going down on West 34th Street. I quickly got into my car and headed over to 34th St. There, I saw two jerks beating the #@%! Out of each other in front of 6 squad cars, a police helicopter, and a news crew. Now I feel better. Text from tidbits (Fever Cabin)…local free ad paper.
  9. Today work is slow and I'm bored.
  10. DA, Well, quite frankly and honestly I don’t see neither a point nor well-reasoned argument in these posts of yours. My intention is not to attack you as a person but to call spade a spade and tell it as it is. If that is not enough then accept my apology. This discussion took this long and this many pages because of someone not listening. Back to the topic, Are there Ahadiths that you think are authentic sources for Muslims? If yes which ones? If no, where do you get the instruction that tells you how to perform your prayers? You seem to be muddying the water. The Hadith is giving them the option all the while men are obligated to perform their prayers in the masjid for getting full credit. Having more “ajar†is what it takes to get to the ultimate destination - the paradise. The more you have it the better chance you get earning Allah’s approval and entering it. What you need to understand is that most folks in this forum are not against the idea of women having comfortable space in the Masjid. There is no conspiracy or discrimination against sisters nor there are institutional constraints that put women in disadvantage. My wife goes there not for praying but for lectures, as there is lecture serious as well as Q&A time given by well-known Somali scholars. It is simply combination of prioritizing and financial constraints that make the Masjids what they are. I like to see the new Masjids to have classrooms, better bathrooms, better parking space, etc. But I understand it takes money to meet all these needs. You are entitled to your opinions but when it comes to the religion there is a limit. It is the lunch time!
  11. Thanks for the compliment DA. I needed one from you and no I didn't sense the sarcasm for I read it literaly as you have written. Now you do understand the value of strong opinions and the need for expressing one's views without you being raising the victim flag and this rubbish of all folks are gainst me. Don't give us that plz! Back to the issue, sis the heart of the issue is whether sisters are better off praying the salat at home or not. Some knowledgeable folks said sisters are supposed to pray at home. The Masjid are open for them but they get more credit from Allah if they perform their salat at home. Why? I don't know! it is Allah's infinite wisdom. But you seem to take an issue for the validity of ahadiths. You seem to suggest that the scholars are fallible. Even though it is irrelevant, still I agree that indeed they are fallible for they are mere human beings. This is why I say u run around in circles. What is it that you object about ahadiths? Is it the methodology and science used to collect them? Or the very substance of ahadiths in itself? Are you saying this particular hadith is weak or you are questioning the scholar who forwarded to us? This is prophets word after all. For you to say you don't consider ahadith as authentic source for Islam is something beyond me. An advice don't you take my posts as personal attack for they are not. Don't you personalize it and if it seems that way to you is the inevitable conclusion that gleaned from the aggregate posts.
  12. Attitudes of Ignorance 8/12/2004 - Political - Article Ref: CD0408-2420 Number of comments: Opinion Summary: Agree: Disagree: Neutral: By: Parvez Ahmed Common Dreams* - A Consequence of Media Portrayal of Islam and Muslims A well functioning democracy requires an effective media that in the words of critic Eric Alterman focuses on the 'spinach' of hard news and not the 'candy' of sensationalism. From reluctance to critically question WMD assertions prior to Iraq War to obsession over covering celebrity trials, all points to a media that has discarded its traditional role of a watchdog in favor of an ill defined goal of infotainment. This apparent change in philosophy has not resulted in any major gains. Despite growth in US population, newspaper circulation remains flat and audiences for news dwindling. A study by Harvard University reports 58 percent of people perceive news as sensational, 84 percent as depressing, 42 percent as misleading, and 47 percent as biased. Perhaps the most egregious of these failures is the media's coverage of Islam or Muslims. A search of past newspaper articles shows that terrorism, militancy or extremism by a Muslim is frequently linked to his faith. The association is 1000 to 1 times more likely for Muslims than any other faith group. This lopsided association is troubling given the fact that that all religions, not just Islam, have in the recent past fallen prey to misinterpretation by a radical fringe. Certainly the ills of a misguided minority do not justify the victimization of the peaceful majority. The consequences of such imprudent associations are often overlooked. In 1999 Wall Street Journal ran a story on the ongoing struggle for democratic reform in Iran. The article suggested that the struggle in Iran is between, 'Islamic clerics and secular reformers.' The struggle for reform was and is still being lead by a cleric, current Iranian President Khatami. A reader later pointed out that a Muslim does not have to be 'secular' to believe in the universal values of social justice and human dignity. The 9/11 Commission reported with alarming alacrity that 'Islamist terrorism' is the greatest threat posed to the United States. A University of Washington professor of Islamic studies Brannon Wheeler now questions why the commission did not use any Islamic scholar to 'explain Islam, Muslim religious activism or bin Laden.' Journalists in expected their watchdog role should have been more diligent, asking the commission to explain 'Islamist' instead of leaving its meaning open to the imagination of uninformed readers. Another recent headline stated, 'Saudi security forces kill Islamic militants.' Perhaps a better choice would have been 'Islamic forces kill Saudi militants.' After all Saudi Arabia is a self-described Islamic country whose security forces are 'Islamic' and the militants unmistakably Saudi. On August 5 three stories came across AP news wires - the arrest in a sting operation of two Muslims, the arrest of a man who allegedly had plans to bomb a federal building, and FBI raid on a home investigating anthrax. Guess which story made your headline news? Such repetitive slant in media coverage builds an environment in which bigotry fosters. It is thus not surprising that radio and television talk shows are resplendent with both caller and host assertions that Muslims have either not condemned terrorism or have only six degrees of separation from it. A Pew Forum survey shows that 44 percent of Americans believe Islam encourages violence and 49 percent believe one in two Muslims to be anti-American. Neither public opinion reflects reality. Anouar Majid of University of New England in his book 'Unveiling Traditions' writes that such bias is reflective of an intrinsic Eurocentric worldview that needs change as 'a progressive multicultural world of linked, but irreducible cultural singularities, has become a historic necessity.' Media organizations will have to reawaken to the principle of unlimited interrogation, which begins by understanding the limitations of the prevailing Eurocentrism and its consequent Orientalism - understood as attitude that views non-western ideas and culture as inferior. Mainstream Muslim scholars and activists must be given airtime and print space to dispel the stereotypes that dog them. Not doing so imperils our liberal democracy where journalists have the sacred duty to improve civic dialogue. Adam Smith in his Theory of Moral Sentiment pointed out that human communities be bound together by agreeable bonds of affection and be drawn to one common center of mutual good. Today technology necessitates that we view the human community as extending beyond our national boundaries. Islam and West are not two exclusive poles but are part of an integrated whole in a polycentric world. Parvez Ahmed, Ph.D. (pahmed@cair-florida.org), is a board member for the Council on American-Islamic Relations, (CAIR). CAIR is headquartered in Washington D.C., has 28 offices nationwide and is America's largest Muslim civil liberties advocacy group. Source: CommonDreams
  13. DA always wins not because she has a point, not because she has knowledge in the subject under discussion, not because she uses reason, not because she has higher moral ground than other opposing (views) nomads...no she wins because she stubbornly exerts one-dimensional line arguments that goes around the heart of the issue in circles. This post is case in point! The issue of whether women get more ajar in praying their homes or not could have been settled if the words of the prophet is good enough for DA. From what I gather, she demands a Qur’anic verse that specifically addresses this issue from this particular angle. What prophet Mohamed PBUH preachs is immaterial as far as DA is concerned. The bottom line is there is no (as far as I know) verse in Qur’an about this issue. In that regard she’s won. Clap clap! There is, however, a verse in the Qur’an that says whatever prophet brings to you take (embrace) it and whatever he forbids avoid (it is haraam) it. This verse has to end, you would think, DA’s concern of Hadiths being not the primary sources right? wrong!

I think (this my opinion) that Somali language is very rich but it lacks and even getting behind as time progresses in many fields, be it in the technology, journalism, etc. or in the field of Science in general. I got one question and I'm posing the question in order to illustrate the deficiencies of Somali as a modern language. How do u say blue in Somali? The sky is a blue so is our flag...I mean this is natural color and to think we don’t have a word for it is weird.
  20. This song is from Hanuuniye Daalo aragtideedaay I found its lyrics very deep. It is one of these songs that come from poets who seem to have touched the center of their sorrow. The poet realized, it's been said, that he is going to lose his love to one of the fat cats in Hamar at the time. He was addressing both of his love and the man who was going to marry her... Dambar iyo labeeniyo, dahab midabki leeyeey, xuural-ceyntii dunidee, daawashada u timidee dalka lagu maneystee. Hadduu diido calafkoo, aqal labo dayaanoo, aan xareed ku daaqnee, inaan dadab wadaagno, Waqtigana naka la diro. Anna kuuma dudayoo, Naxariis door weyn iyo, Ducaan kugu sagootiyey. Ninka damacu raacee, Dookhu calanka saartee, Guur aad ka doontee, Kugu gacan danbeeyana, Aan dardaaran siiyee. Waa libin dadnimaduye, Dunida kan ka doortee, Daji meel barwaaqa, Diihaalka gaajiyo, Dibindaabyo yey arag. Waxaa dihatay hooyadii, Dadnimada ku beertee, Aabaheedna waa diric, Ragna doorkii weeyee, Waa duriyad xalaalee, Waalidkeedna daadihi. Waxaa jira nin doorroo, Dantu ceeb u yeeshe, Waxaa ayaan darro ah Hadii waayu diidaan. .... After hearing the song from then Radio Mugadishu, the lady whose behave the song was composed felt in love all over again with the poet. The poor poet won her back...
  21. DA asked a simple question and so far no one is giving her the answer. Waa laga gardaran yahay. The simple answer is there is NO ayah addressing this issue especially the way you framed the question. But there is one ayah that could address your concerns. I would like one of the nomads here to get the verbatum translation as well as the verse # for our friend DA. Here it is' Allah said in the Qur'an "Maa Aatakumu rasuulu fakhuthuuhu wamaa nahaa cankum fantuhuu" I will rely on the nomads to translate as I don't want to make an error there.
  22. Well well! What we have here? Let’s see... Truthseeker is insisting on that Khalifah is attainable goal and while the methods of achieving it are not quite clear, he thinks, its inauguration is long overdue. All the nomads agreed this premise but Ngonge seems to demand (at least that is how he comes off the screen) the “howâ€s and ways of getting there to be spelled out. He wants to hear from Truthseeker the practical solutions that he himself doesn’t have. So far Truthseeker has not delivered nor has he admitted his failures instead he referred the doubters to his party’s website. We all went there with no avail. Viking thinks that perhaps overthrowing some of the Middle Eastern puppets is one baby step closer to that goal. Who is going to replace them and how are we going to ensure they are the right people for the job he didn’t say. Rahima doesn’t buy the Viking’s point and she laid the blame at our doorstep. She seems to say that there is something missing inside us that is delaying the wonders of the Khalifa. Yusufaddie is lecturing Ngonge about the need of having one strong leader. He informed all of us that indeed the “constitution†is in place for such Khalifa and he seems to be saying that “few†Muslims are needed to accept the Khalifa. Salafi_Online dismisses the need of grass root “revolutionâ€. Salafi has some “daleel†at his disposal. Opinions vary as they always do! What this ongoing discussion is testament to is the difficulty as well as the enormity of the challenges that those who wish to see the Khalifa in their lifetime have to face in order to realize their dreams. I for one think it is couple of generations away and all we can do is to lay the ground work for others after us to build on and go forward from there. We have few problems to attend to first and addressing these problems is part of the work needed to realize the “dreamâ€. I have posted an article while ago called “Hudeibiah Approach†The article addresses this dilemma head on and one of its recommendations is the need of technological and “know how†skills we Muslims need to acquire before going forward attending other important business. Carry on. It is very interesting discussion.
