  1. They are not model Islamists. All they are asking is having the same freedom accorded to people of faith in Europe. They just want freedom of religion. I also notice that you did not know the over 123 generals arrested and convicted by a court for trying to overthrow the government. I do not think you are aware of these things.

The Turkish nation is facing very difficult issues. I know you may only noticed the Paris killing by ISIs, but over 300 people are killed by bombs in the heart of Istanbul and Ankara. They are hosting 3 million Syrians and they can not allow a parallel movement to undermine the state. Imagine the FBI or the CIA employee undamming Obama or the institutions they serve.

Here in Canada if you incite hatred against an ethnic or religious group , your paper will be sued. Also , here in Canada, journalist can not report certain court proceedings ig the judge orders a gag order. Which means , they can listen and report the generalities of the case , but can not report specific issues.

If the issue is national security, they can not name the witnesses or ever divulge classified information. Zaman tramped all these rules and published Turkish military secrets. Believe me the western nations have strict rules in terms of national security.

Again what is good for the Turks is good for us. Erdogan can come and go but, we care about that nation.

Canada, Somalia and Turkey . These are my issues.

  2. I agree. There are also some good and educated people in the parliament who do not have the connections or the means to affect change. They just sit there and watch as Damjadiid and others shuffle the deck with incompetent people. Some who were out spoken were also murdered by unknown assassins.

I also learned that " the few good men and women" who could have made the difference are either busy or not interested the job. Unless you are retired or a well to do person financially, it is hard to participate the Somali politics. The good people are hard workers and are busy with paying their bills, raising family, paying their mortgages and other daily life issues. A person who has done or achieved nothing and failed in the diaspora is the typical Somali who is participating back home.

You do not have to be a an experienced politician, all you need to do is work hard, be honest and have a passion for what you are involved. Mohamed Farmaajo and C/Rahman Bayle were two people who were busy with their jobs and I could say that they had a passion and purpose which helped them achieve something.

Dahir Rayaale, once sais " Mar dambe Ayaan ogaanay, Ilayn dadka qurbaha nooga yinid waxay ahaayeen dadkii nolosha qurbaha ka bixi kari waayey", I personally know guys " Muqayiliin", who left family behind and become ministers in Hargeisa.

  3. uyyXabad, the government did not took over the newspaper. A trust fund appointed by the court order took over. The trust fund will be appointing new editors and managers. Those of us who follow Turkey understand the reasons behind this.

There is a movement called Fathula Gullen Movement who were allied with AKP, but decided to set up a parallel government and infiltrated all government apparatus to overthrow without running elections. They had prosecutors, judges, army generals and others. Two years ago many of them have been arrested after their coup failed.

    Here is the news:

Earlier on Friday, an Istanbul court had decided to appoint trustees for Zaman newspaper which is being accused of supporting a criminal organization led by U.S.-based cleric Fetullah Gülen. The company is accused of supporting what is called the Gülenist Terror Organization (FETÖ), headed by Fetullah Gülen, who is said to have infiltrated Turkey's state apparatus with thousands of followers in an effort to overthrow the government.

FETÖ is also known as the parallel state, which designates a clandestine group of Turkish bureaucrats and senior officials, allegedly embedded in the country's institutions, including the judiciary and the police.

They own this newspaper and others. No American newspaper or other respected western news organization will furnish the pictures of American clandestine intelligence movements. Some western journalist are even embedded with combat soldiers, but they are briefed not to divulge state secrets. The Gullen infiltrators inside the government feed these papers with illegal state secrets. There are many critical papers of Erdogan, but these Zaman group is different , they are treat to the Turkish state. It has nothing to do with freedom of the press. If a mafia group with criminal intensions tries to infiltrate government for it's own interest it will be stopped.

Finally , it is not a take over by the state, but a continues effort of the Turkish state to stop a terrorist movement undermining the state. If you try to the over government without going through legal channels , you will be considers illegal.

  4.

Last week I did promise to write my own investigation of Al-shabaab 's activities and those connected with it's deadly attacks . It is a huge task that needs careful consideration of all sides. In the mean time, I will write a prelude ( or what reer Benadirs call Prosemintoda ka horeysa filimka) to gage the landscape and the current situation of Mogadishu and the surrounding area.

Also, here in SOL we have been exchanging some ideas about the lifting of the arms embargo. On that subject, there are two diametrically opposed opinions where each one of them have merits in their own right. One is looking to the future of Somali state and it's ability to procure weapons to defend itself from enemies within and outside our borders.

    Here Mr. Tillamook said :

"don’t know why we Somalis choose to pretend that, however weak and dysfunctional our country is… there are many who still fear what it was and what it can be, again.

The arms embargo on Somalia will remain unchanged because those who’ve imposed it, don’t share your fears about one clan in Somalia getting armed and then subjugating the other clans…but rather, they only wish to keep any heavy weapon systems from falling into ANY Somali hands– for fear of such arms being used to wage war, in the future, on our fragile neighbors"

I think this statement sums up the activities of our neighbors for the last two decades. While we have been brutalized by foreign inspired extremist movements, coupled with weak and dysfunctional governments, our rivals fear us . When a lion who roars in the jungle dies , those who knew his strength and power do not approach him quickly, because there is still a fear that he may rise and do some damage. There were two major statements uttered by former Kenyan President Daniel Arap Moi, regarding the condition of Somalis at the time and his fears of the future Somalia that may rise from the ashes of civil war.

He took power in 1978, and he almost ruled more than two and half decades. in the early 2002, the opposition agitated and wanted to oust him with bloody riots. Fearing the disaster of civil war , he said " Do you see what is happening in Somalia ,?, they are resilient people despite what they are going through, I can assure you that if some thing like that happens here , you would be dying like a cattle". waxa uu yidhi sida lo'da ayaad u Dhimanaysaan haddii waxa Somalia ka socda idin gaadho.

The other one was delivered in September, 2003, while addressing American defense University. He said " one of the drawbacks in the Somalia peace process was the regional suspicion that a united Somalia might pursue its "expansionist dreams". He continued , "some of the countries neighbouring Somalia, feared that a re-united and prosperous Somalia might resurrect its early territorial claims".

On one side, he warns his not so strong Sawaaxillis to avoid following the foot steps of Somalis, on the other side , he fears that the dead lion of Somalia may rise from the ashes of tribalism and reclaim his proper place in the horn of Africa. For me these are the indication that I base my conclusions to lift the arms embargo. No sovereign nation will accept that the whole world is descending to Somali waters to control few pirates. Iranians, Chinese, Europeans and others are in our oceans to fight pirates. Believe me, few factories , and a dozen fishing boats can keep these young men employed, yet millions are spent to patrol seaways.

" Nin ku Dilay Hadh Kuuma Jiido". if you look conflict zones around the world, no one allows their neighbors to pacify them. Iraq refused the participation of it's neighbors as peace keepers. Afghanistan will never accept India, Pakistan or Iran to pacify them. How can you accept for your rivals and competitors to have free hand in your security and other internal matters including the writing of your constitution. Every nation have dirty laundry and internal issue that it must deal by itself. I do not want even my close friends to visit my home while things are disorganized or the dishes are not washed, why would you allow your competitors to clean your mess?, only in Somalia.

On the other hand a weak, dysfunctional and corrupt government must be judged by it's action on issues of competence , organizational skills and the seriousness it confronts the security threat . Those who oppose the military empowerment of the government, justifiably see it's unwillingness to face the reality on the ground regarding Al-shabaab . They see the Somali president guarded by Ugandan troops. A leader that can not defend himself from the local threat , and his inability to equip and train his own body guards , should not be trusted to protect the public.

    Here Mr. Gheelle.T said:

"It’s not the lack of heavy weapons as the reason why AS aren’t defeated, it is lack of will on the part of the government to defeat them, not only militarily, but also politically. AS is still drawing supporters from the locals in the south and they do tax businesses including the big companies (xawaalah and telecom). Why can’t the government win the support of the people? Why can’t they pressure these big businesses to stop giving money to AS?"

These are true statements that reflect the distrust many Somalis have on this government to tackle security issues. why can't they get the support of the people?. Regarding on this note , let me introduce you another eye witness who just this month came from Mogadishu. Unlike the last witness, this one spent months in Mogadishu. Let us get straight to the witness.

He said, " I was sleeping a farm just outside of Dayniile district--- which is about a kilometer from the town--- when someone banged the door around midnight, since there was a no mans land between the farm and the nearest houses, we were all scared about this knock on the door at midnight".

" As we opened the door, a panicked man who was a family member, pulled a letter from his pocket and claimed that it was a summon from Al-shabaab courts tomorrow morning", " the letter did not specify or say much other than an order to be present at the court". He tried to calm down the man, and told him to go to bed and " we will figure out the first in the morning".

" Without delay , as the sun came, we prepared to meet this al-shabaab court and sort out the problem". He was probably expecting to meet a clandestine network In some obscure part of the country side , but , to his surprise the judge and the court it self are operating within the city limits for everyone to see. He said " we entered in this non descript building in the middle of Dayniile district, and, SubhanAllah, the judge and the court is there in plain sight for everyone to see.". As they took their seat, the plaintiff was also sitting right there beside the judge . The plaintiff was , the defendant's cousin and he was suing his relative to pay back some un paid wages he owed for working in his business. He asked the diaspora guy to lend him some money for him to settle this final Al-shabaab verdict which said " the debt must paid today". According to locals all civil and criminal matters are dealt by AS court.

The moral of the story is unlike what the ruling class in Mogadishu telling us, AS is not a spent terrorist force that that is operating in Jubba, Shabeele or in the country side . It is alive and well in large number of districts in Mogadishu. Not only in Daynile, but, in Dhankarley, Huriwaa, Hawl-wadaag and Medino. They are collecting taxes in Bakaraha, and from all major telecom companies. Some times, for security reasons, they may order the closure of internet and telephone service in Shabeelaha Hoose and southern regions to avoid detection. The government is not even safe in the green zones where most of it's staff live. According to local people , the long hand of AS can reach anyone in Mogadishu.

The question is what have they done in order to be rewarded?. Here one of the government spokesman showed us a picture soldiers in nice uniform marching. Yes I do have respect and admiration those who put their lives on the defence of the nation. At the same time , I can not trust for certain group connected to the ruling class to claim that they are only defenders of the state while knowing this is the collective duty of all. Do not go far, just check the Marka and surrounding communities how they feel about the national army and it's leaders. The same commanders who in the year 2000, leading the alliance that was taking over Kismaayo are now the military leaders of the soldiers stationed in Marka Caddey.

The local people call them : maleeshiyada isku sheegta ciidanka qaranka. The local people have their peoples militia , while AS is the third party in the conflict. The preoccupation of the local people is not Al-shabaab , but the eviction of those they think are sucking their blood in the name of the army. These are serious issue that must be addressed. The Somali people lost the trust of their government and it's leaders. The big question is how to gain the trust of the people to assist the restoration of the state and fight against anarchy and terrorism.

Last week a former defence minister of Somalia in 2008, during the premiership of Nuur Cadde, Mr. Muxyadiin Ibrahim was killed when a bomb was placed in his car. As he drove, the car exploded. Everyone said that AS claimed the responsibility, yet if you follow carefuly the Marka Caddey clan conflict, fingers could be pointed in different directions.

Mr. Muxyadiin was the Chairman of Kulan Party. A well organized party with platforms and large membership. He hails from Marka and Shalanbood. About a month ago, Hassan Sheekh appointed Mr. Muxyadiin's son as the intelligence chief of Shabeelha Hoose, another man Mr. Cumarey was also named the new mayor of Marka. The mayor deployed some local militia from #50 and other districts to Marka to protect himself from the Galgaduud militia who work and run the Swiss financed NGO, who operates in the hospitals and food programs. The local people call them " Hay'ad Beeleed", because a large number of armed militia and others are security contractors with armored vehicles who act with impunity and do as they wish.

When the Amisom soldiers left Marka , so does the Somali soldiers commanded by Goobaanle and others from Galgaduud. A large local militia replaced them . According to local people, For fear of loosing their grip in Marka , they introduced some harsh measures including putting check points in and around town. Some of these commanders are accused by the local people of burning villages and murdering people throughout the region. They also said that the assassination of Mr. Muxyadiin is all connected to the Shabeelaha Hoose issues. These are the accusations of the locals. Personally I can not confirm if AS murdered him or the Galgaduud militia in Mogadishu. Allahu Yaclam.

What I am getting is the national army must be ( Ninkii lagu seexanaeyey ee nabada Ilaalinayey) the peace soldiers whom the public have the out most trust. Even in war torn countries , the national army is their only hope of inclusive security. In 2006, C/laahi Yuusuf brought couple of thousand soldiers from Puntland to protect the government and pacify the capital . Everyone opposed, even the late C/risaaq X. Huseen protested the idea of a Geedi/AAdan Madoobe/C/laahi combining their home based armies. Today we have USC and their allies telling as they are building a national army. " Ogolaan mayno Qabaa'il noo dawladaynaya oo Ciidan Beeleed Dhisanaya". I would not go more than that or that warlord Calasow may find one of my cousins in Mogadishu , send his pictures and proclaim that Galbeedi had sent money from Canada and convict me in absentia.

Every member of Parliament must bring at least a hundred man army from his village and town. The armies of Puntland , Jubba, Baydhabo and Shabeelaha, Galmudug and Hiiraan must be mixed to make way for the national army, besides, regional government should not have army if you got a national army.

Folks we are In a great dilemma , we want the arms embargo lifted, but at the same time people want concrete results on the ground In order for the arms to be handled by professional inclusive army. People want to know what have you done lately in terms of security. To achieve all these goals and stop this false dreams of these weak government , we must elect a new generation of Somali leaders who have both the vision and hard work to restore Somalia. Our slogan must be change of leadership.

Mr. President , please go home and accept the change Somalis every where are calling for.

  5. Of course the arms embargo must be lifted. A sovereign nation must have the ability to procure in buy arms in order to defend itself. Al-shabaab has plenty of arms. Have you seen the pictures of the arms they took from the Sawaaxili. RPG.s, machine guns, grenades, bullets and other Amos.

At the same time, those who are masquerading as a national army in Mogadishu and surrounding area could be more loyal to their tribes. You need a national army. Mr. Maalister Saaxiib, we know the national army when we see them. They should be from every village and town. Somalis distrust one another and they want an army that looks, and acts for their interest. You can not build the Somali army six months before your term expires. Someone else will do that.

Mr. Hassan fadlan meeshan markuu wakhtigaagu dhmaaado iskaga tag. Dad waxa imananaya aan cidna u Joojinayn, Ama Sawaaxili ha noqdo ama cid kale.

  6. Mooge Salaan,

A destructive virus attacked my computer since Sunday night. Maybe those damn Russians have targeted me. That computer toasted. Also I could not log in even here at SOl.

Any how, Xaaji community politicians are very corrupt. \\even their plots are what I call "fools plots". Last years they did few mischiefs, but this time they will not get away. If they have residents in Lughaya, they should go and vote. Besides , they are oligarchs who could not stay away from Hargeisa. Can you imagine that crook Suldan Sabays sending few "moorayaan from Gabiley".

The East and West Burco Habroos at least know war and peace unlike the oligarchs of Hargeisa. If the military stays away the local people " Ayaa soo qaqaban". Siilaanyo ayey rabaan in ay waxoogaa gilgilaan.

THey have no business in coastal area or sea. waa " dilaaliin".

  7. Mooge Saaxiib, Haka hor dhicin. Waxaa aad sheegtay waa wax dhaafsiisan.

This issue is deeper than what you have raised. It could be beyond even what we Somalis could comprehend. Some times it is important to look beyond our own useless " Xadhigjiid". anyway we should go whether the evidence leads to us without prejudice.

Sidoo kale arrimahan marka laga hadlayo ku saabsan geeri iyo nolol, qofna u xoqi mayno meesha cuncunaysa ee raadka aeynu raaci.

  8. We are too smart to be confused by a warlord Calasow. These issues are more complected and a semi literate extortionist would not have the means , the integrity or the educational background to resolve it.

Arrintani waa arrin Qoto dheer oo meel fog salka ku haysa. Majara habaabin iyo reer hebel iska dhici kuma xalismayso. Waa arrin taabanaysa jiritaanka dadka Soomaalida ee Qurbaha iyo gudahaba Jooga.

I am compiling and will be presenting here in SOL , a small detailed report about the origins of these targeted killings which started in 2003.

  9. I do not wish to interfere this kind of topics, but since it is of children, I would like to add few points. The case the sister is pointing out is probably an extreme case of control.

She pointed out about expectation of the parents and atoning their failures through their children. That is true. We would like them to avoid our past failures. If the parents want his children to pursue what he could not achieve for themselves or aspiring higher goals for their kids, we are guilty as charged. I was the first in my family to go to school. My dad did not had that chance. When I was in high school, I was studying with lamp (Faynuus) at night. Electricity was rare thing that can only probably found in Mogadishu or Hargiesa, , I shared two or three boys ( sibling) in a crowded room.

Now let see my kids. Each one of them has his own room, when they were in high school, we drop them in the morning and picked them in the afternoon. They never, even took the city transit bus, and when they come home, a nice , hot meal is waiting for them. In return what we ask is good manners, respect for their parents and other and good grades in school. Is that is too much to ask. We struggled a lot for them to have better future than us. They also have all the freedom and the independent thinking needed for them to decide for their future, but their are certain expectation. Because of the opportunity they have, they must do better than us. " wixii la galiyey waa in laga soo saaro.

Isn't that what every nation and family aspires: the next generation to do better than their parents.

In terms of marriage , here in North America, I have never seen a dad who worries about the finance or the wealth of the groom his Daughter will be marrying . All they want is a good person who will take care off them. Some times, they may even contribute financially for the wedding and other issues.

I know some of these children might face a a lot of outside pressure, but there is expectations, and that expectation can be modified by a loving parent without punishment. Sometimes, what counts is not about what they achieve or their education , but how caring and decent they are toward their family and others.

  10. When I say Turkey and Saudi Arabia intervene, it does not mean I am clamoring for war, No, what I mean is the threat of real war should force Putin to rethink twice. He already changed his tactics. Besides, This might be a propaganda piece by A Sunni Muslim , but it is our propaganda, and it is directed against the evil Russians.

Just like communists , they are flooding the internet with thousands of trolls spewing pro Russian propaganda, and you could be one of those useful idiots working for them without knowing.

Xabad, I have no beef with you or those who worship caws. I know you care about caws, Indian untouchables, Kurd and so many other host of things, unless they are Arabs or Muslims. I hope the Kurds find harmony and peace. Since you worry about those minorities, just give little care about the Crimean Tatars annexed illegally by the Russians. This land was a Tartar land for 500 years. Stalin deported 300,000 of them to Siberia in 1941. Many returned in late eighties and early nineties. They are 25% of the people now , and they wish to be free or in Ukraine.

Again I have nothing to debate with you in these issues, you have different value than most of us. I care about Canada and Somalia first, and then those who accommodated the Somalis ,like westerners countries, especially the U>SAA and the Arab Muslims. It is all about culture and citizenship.

I do not have any connection with the Chinese, The Indian, The Brazilian or the South African. It is all about culture, citizenship, and relationship. Finally, I do not have time or space for another Russian troll with Somali name. What is good for the Turks is Good for the Somalis.

Rag baan iska dhicinaynaaye saaxiibow faraha naga qaad. Magaratay.

  11. Look, we need some real investigation by a Somali commission mandated to go the bottom of this issues. These are matters of life and death that needs to be investigated. I myself raised some issues about Hargeisa in 2008, and those deadly bombings that targeted the Presidential palace during Rayaale's reign. My theory was that Hirsi, could have arranged been some kind of truce--Do not attack us and we will not attack you. That doesn't mean Somalind is putting it's guard down. The people are vigilant and always report every up normal activity. Almost everyone knows their neighbors and non local activities are reported immediately. I do believe that local people have no intension of bombing their homes, families and businesses. I also believe these lone wolfs in Mogadishu who participates in the bombings . Something also must be said about the environment that indices young local boys and men to kill daily journalists and others and act like a normal people.

On the issues of individual " Reer Woqoyi" taking part of the bombing, could be explained by real investigation. in my few senses, I could say that IN Mogadishu and surrounding area, up to 10 bombings and attacks take place in every single month. Some times they increase , and other times , they go quite for a while. If hundred attacks happen in a year , the " Reer Woqoyi" could be less than 2% of those who participate. IN the Villa Somalia attack , which was the heart of the government power, the planners and attackers of 12 men were all from Dayniils, Galgaduud, Benadir and Bay. About six Attackers died in Liido Beech, all of them were southern. the Hotel that General Dhgabadan was living, about a dozen terrorists attacked and died , all were southerners. If someone, took a sample or simple statistics of all those participated, the Reer Woqoyi will be less than 1% percent.

I do not trust one single statement that warlord Dahir Calasow throwing around. Even if he gets some half truths, he does spin that to attack those he targeting for tribal reasons. He accused government ministers of taking part plots to kill people. He attacks the same intelligence service who are putting their life on the line by exposing their pictures in order for the terrorists to kill them.

I was trying to write something about Daalo last week and I did change my mind. I was afraid that he may find one of my cousins in Mogadishu , take his picture and announce that Galbeedi's cousin is behind those crimes. " WAlaahi inta aan qoray Ayaan masaxay".

Last week , he said that the two man carrying the labtop were from SNM community. two days latter he changed the name of the person and their clan background. This week for the third time he changed again. IF I were the government, I would have investigated Calasow and his contacts in the intelligence service. He leaks active investigation by jumping the gun and publishing bogus names sent to him by these sleepers in the NISA.

This is serious issue. Two years ago he accused a man to be behind the central hotel bombing . He put a picture of a person. Last year, that same person carrying that name was interviewed by the BBC and he denied being that person. We all found out that he was a different man than the one he put in the media. He recycled that same man by saying that the man from Borama was behind the Liido bombing and was arrested at the airport. It was all false.

The only person from Borama was a young mentally ill who was schizophrenic, and was in and out of mental wards in Germany , whom their family sent home so he may got better. Those killers got him and strapped him with bombs. His sisters who were in Awdal were questioned by Somaliland authorities and released latter. How can person like that work for Somaliland?.

I think this man Alasow is the worst personification of Somali people. Associating with him is like living in a gutter ( Bulaacad). HIs behaviour is like someone that was not raised properly.

Just like some of you, few years ago, my first impression was: if he cleans up the garbage he could do some hard hitting journalism. He lost my respect when he put the picture of the President , pointing to his private parts and accusing minister Fowsiya to unspeakable things. She was an honorable mother of grown children, yet he violated her dignity.

I do believe this man who died could be an innocent man that was framed. Maybe they told him to take the lap top to someone? who knows?.

By the way the so called Swedish journalists were recycling what Calsow was writing. WE need a real investigation not crab from

  12. Look, we need some real investigation by a Somali commission mandated to go the bottom of this issues. These are matters of life and death that needs to be investigated.

WE need a real investigation not crab from a warlord.

  13. 14. One thing I became familiar for all those years is people who try to save the world specially on the issues of less significance are those who do not have stake or loss their main purpose. People who do not distinguish between human and animal world.

Have you seen the Hollywood people opposing fur coats by getting naked, or someone hugging tree to save it; do not eat meat because someone killed an animal or not drinking milk because you do not like to take from the animal.

Folks , we the humans have domain over others, especially the animals. We should treat them well, but we have to slaughter them and eat them too.

Now you want to campaign for Indians who got the company of A Somali man at least in their life times and make some money rather than spend all their lives in slam. Ha I soo marina.

Fadal maad noo daysaan meeshan arrimaha Soomaalida khuseeya Ayaan kaga sheekaysanaaye.

  15. The Russians are bombing Syrian civilians in Aleppo , one of the oldest cities in the world and the largest Syrian town with millions of residents. Half of the city's population, about 1 million, already left to refugee camps in Turkey and other places to escape the barrel bombing of Assad regime. Now the remaining half is facing cluster bombs from the Russians. What we are witnessing today is the destruction of a whole nation of Syria.

This was one of the oldest nations and communities in the world. Aleppo, Palmyra, and Damascus are United Nation's heritage cities. The countries 20 million inhabitants are bombarded and killed by Assad, Russians, and ISIS. For them , there is no where to run, each is worse than the other. These are three despots with blood in their hands. The question is what can be done to save the remaining population to remain in their home land, and also, to save the European countries, especially Germany , Britten and the northern European countries, who are doing their best to accommodate tens of thousands , from instability and unexpected upheaval?.

Turkey, by far is the nation absorbing over two million Syrian refugees, yet other than accommodate the refugees, I believe they could have done more to overthrow Assad from power. We all know that President Erdogan is having a lot of pressure from the western media and governments from his handling of Kurdish issue, but, if you look back the actions of former Turkish governments and their leaders , they did ten times more intervention than what the current government of AKP is doing. In the nineties, Turkish tanks invaded northern Iraq and even stayed months to destroy the communist group PKK. Their jets were constantly in Iraq air spaces to bomb mountains, and other than few protests from Saddam , no one raised their voice. When they were dealing with the Turkish citizens of Kurdish background, they were even harsher. Kurdish language radio broadcasting were banned, emergency powers were used to supress the south western Turkey were Kurds dominate, and their political participation was almost non existent.

Now, let us compare what Erdogan and AKP done to deal with regional issues from Iran, Assad , Kurds and PKK. For the first time in history of Turkey, a Kurdish centred political party is siting in the parliament as an opposition with more 11% of the popular vote. This government signed a peace and cease fire with the leader of PKK, Abdalla Ocalan for the first time in three decades. Erdogan visited Iran, and even tried to find ways for Iran to mitigated the nuclear issue with the western powers. Rather than always look from the outside in the exclusive European club , the EU, he tried to cultivate close economic relationship with his neighbors and the countries of the region. He did not rush to depose Assad in the early stages when he was showing his true color of being a tyrant.

The reality is the issues facing the Turks, Kurds and the region became more complicated than our eyes can see. The Former Turkish rulers, CHIP or the Republican party did not had the Islamic label thrown to Erdogan. They did as they pleased, and if they were in power today, they would have taken tough measures against Assad and the Russians. They would not have allowed a sectarian war to brew in their borders for five consecutive years. They would not have allowed a second door dictator murder millions of their fellow Muslims , while refugees are boring in to the country. We know President Erdogan have a lot of detractors in the media because of his decade long in power, and his Islamist tendency which honestly are not threat to anyone. He is probably less conservative than many right wing governments of Europe who keep talking about their culture and faith, while putting down people of Muslim culture. The Kurdish issue is a double edged sword, damn if you try to stop their insurgency, and damn , if you just watch them carve the country.

Another phenomenon in the western media , especially here in North America, is the mushrooming of Russian funded news websites. First , you may think some of these sites are antiwar, or anti American intervention around the world, but if you frequent them for a while , as I did, it is easy to notice that they are nothing but front media companies for the Russians and in some aspect Iranians. They night be anti intervention, but the only intervention they are against is American. If Russia goes and bombs different part of the world , they project as a fight against terrorism. They portrait the Ukrainian government and people who want their country to be out of under the yolk of the Russians as Nazi and western puppets who are creating war. In Syria they vehemently opposed when Obama tried to intervene, claiming that removing Assad will help the terrorist, when America tried to help Free Syrian Army, they decry and say America is helping the terrorist. They want the blood bath to continue while on the other hand straitening the hand of the Russians and Iranians. Among those , that I believe who are in the pockets of the Russians are:

Antiwar.com, Veterans today, Sputnik, The American Conservative, and many more conspiracy websites who believe America is the evil while holding the bag from Putin. In the light of these issues, we must all realize, Obama would not do any thing tangible in his last days. He will not do any action that will effect his image or focus the American media to his presidency , that keeps him awake at night. He do not want trouble. He rather host people in the white house enjoy his last days, which brings us: what could others with backbone could do to reverse the situation in Syria?. As I wrote in this pages months ago, the Arab and Turkish coalition should act now or they will for ever be lost to control the outcome of this war. This media talk of Kurds defeating ISIS is a false narrative that tries to keep the Turks from intervening. The Kurds, Armenians and other are 9% of the population. 90% of the Syrians are Arabs. While minorities have rights, Arabs , especially the Sunnis who are 75% of the population should have a say the direction Syria must take after Assad.

This idea of Putin threatening nuclear to get his way is totally crazy. If he really want to risk a nuclear war in the civil war of a country that doesn't share a border with his country or direct threat to his nation, then the world must face this lunatic. He is attacking Ukraine, claiming the right to intervene, yet he is acting surprised when Turkey objects his bombing of Syrian Turkmen in the north. Those who are apologizing for his crimes keep citing the Libyan war or how Russia want to be a player. I am from the school that believe, the Russians were communist despots that failed around the globe when they tried to spread a totalitarian Bolshevism in the last century. Putin and the Russians, do not bring anything useful to the world other than war, despotism, communism and business oligarchy. They must be isolated within their empire.

Today's Russia, regardless of their nuclear weapons is a despotic second rate power with dysfunctional economy that is manipulating the world and taking advantage of weak American leadership. He should be begging to be left alone in his own borders. He took advantage of Bush who was busy with Iraq and Afghanistan and he used the terrorist bandwagon to dominate Russia. They keep telling the Americans that ," Russia want to cooperate with them to fight terrorists and that issue should be the common goal and interest". We believe despots only aggravate these issues and should not be called to assist. The Problem is everyone is using this menace to gain or prolong their power. Americans keep asking Putin to stop targeting the rebels allied with them, with no avail.

Even in East Africa, despots are ridding this wave of fighting terrorism. In Burundi, a despot who served to terms and ten years , says his country needs him as he is the only one who could fight Al-shabaab. Cumar Geelle of Djibouti thinks without him the country will go down and he is accusing the opposition of terrorism. This is the man who ruled Djibouti sine 1998, a generation.

It is about time the regional states face the Russian menace. A 100,000 Arab and Turkish coalition will defeat Assad, the despot. Start with carving no fly Zones and civilian protection zones in the north and face the Russians for real. Putin will loose the hardware he built with a decade of oil boom. His bombers would not match the Saudi F-16 and other American built air force. Folks , it is time to expel the Russian bear from the middle east. The coalition , must target two main twin evils of Assad and ISIS. They must take Al-Raqqa, the capital of ISIS and all northern cities. Then squeeze Assad and his base of Tartus and Latakia. Take the war to his home base which are living under the bubble of false stability, then and only them , they will feel the pain Syrian civilians has endured. Do not be fooled by the cease fire, it is a cover for Assad to consolidate his gain through Russian bombardment. The coalition must act now or never.

  16. Michael Keating of Great Britten, the new United Nation's envoy to Somalia has a long resume of managing chaos , nation building, humanitarian aid and conflict resolution issues. He served as United Nation's Deputy Special Representative for Afghanistan as well as Resident Coordinator and Humanitarian Coordinator. In other words, he is not just a UN bureaucrat thrown in the middle of Somali quagmire.

While United Kingdom trying to establishing business ties, such as Som Oil company and others, their main concern is security and terrorism. Mr. Keating having spend a long time in institutional nation building and aiding the needy. He probably already have noticed useless unending Somali politics with the ultimate goal of zero sum game. He had personally witnessed the rivalry of, Tajiks, Uzbeks and Pashtuns of Afghanistan to get a glimpse what is a head of the Somali conflict.

In order to set his agenda, he started a tough confrontation with regional leaders and Hassan Sheekh himself. The president was told to stop the excuses and implement the constitutional road maps and enhance the security. He told Ahmed Madoobe,---the former colleague of Hassan D. Aweys, member of Al-shabaab and eventually joining the Raascaambooni group founded by Sheekh Hassan Turki--that he should think himself as the leader of provisional " Maamul" of Jubba, not the leader of three provinces. Having couple of thousand militia and backed by Kenya will not legitimize Madoobe without broader consultation of the local people.

The envoy also realized that the activity of these regional " Maamuls' are pushing the local populous in the hands of Al-shabaab. In Shabeelaha Hoose, people are uprising and resisting the domination of Galgaduud transplants who are acting like occupiers. During Al-shabaab's reign of the region , every Somali who owned a farm or land confiscated during the civil war got back, thanks to harsh justice of the group. I remember a local man who traveled to Janaale, in 2011, to find out about the fate of his family's farm. Since Al-shbaab were ruling the area , they took the farm from the occupiers and given back to him. That is why the extremist groups are popular with indigenous people. They believe that through those groups issues of land , farm and property could be regained. The same issue could be happening in Jubba region. It seems Me. Keating is sensing that issue.

Mr. Keating also reminded the Galmudug leader that their " Maamul" is only a name, and they must bring peace and reconciliation to Ahla Sunna and others in Galgaduud and surrounding area . He also warned him about orchestrating anymore confrontations with Puntland . No more war in Gaalkacayo.

With all these encounters, the one he had with C/weli Gaas of Puntland was the toughest one according those who attended. C/weli tried to stick with his guns on the issue of selecting parliamentary representation by district and rejecting the modified formula of 4.5. After tough exchanges , the envoy threatened C/weli by withholding of development money and other incentives provided by the UN related agencies and countries. Finally Mr. C/weli reminded the envoy that these are the decisions of Puntlander including elders, civil society and politicians. To make his point , he assembled those three groups and they all spoke with the same voice.

Among these groups , the political one led by Cali Haji Warsame and guided behind the scene by Faroole got the upper hand. According to a Puntlander friend who has the ears of what is going on in Garoowe, C/weli was always had close contacts and communications with the Damjadiid boys. As recently as the summer of 2015, he was on board on the issue of 4.5. When Hassan Sheekh announced that general election of one man one vote will not be taking place in Somalia due to the current circumstances, C/Weli never objected or raised his voice. So what changed suddenly.

First, According to reliable people, last year , there were an indication that Hassan Sheekh may leave office and let a new leader immerge for the change that needed to happen. If Hassan leaves , it is going to be a well contested election since the incumbent with an office advantage won't be running. By standing for another term, the president changed the political landscape for all, including C/weli of Puntland. In the current system of selecting leaders , those with deep pockets can only prevail, and Damujadiid are getting huge bags of money from many fronts.

Second, C/weli has to play the right wing isolationist card in order to fend off and survive the impeachment ploy orchestrated by Faroole. No doubt Faroole was a master player of the Somali politics and during his reign in Puntland , he got his agenda through the USC dominated federal government. Now , Faroole through Cali H. Warsane is pushing Gaas to tow in his line. This warsame guy had already started campaigning as soon as he was appointed a minister. If you remember, a doctor by the name of Gaboose, started campaigning and preparing himself to replace Siilaanyo as soon as he was appointed interior minister, and kept unswerving questions about his intensions. Hirsi Gaab, tired of raising these issue just after the election, and fired him immediately. C/weli has done the same thing and fired Mr. Warsame from education ministry after his plan was became apparent.

Now, Faroole and Warsame warned C/weli of accepting the conclusions of " Madasha wada Tashiga". As we all noted, he formally accepted the Kismayo memorandum of understanding. What remained in Mogadishu was just the signing of the document. Since he is blindsided by astute politicians guided by Faroole, he had no other choice than to appoint Cali Warsame, the man he fired last year , to lead the political panel that met Mr. Keating. If he accepts the deal, he will be impeached by the regional parliament which he doesn't have much support. For him the only thing left for him is to place himself on the right side of Faroole. He even went further and want to separate from Somalia it self , just like our friends in Somaliland. Some people might be surprised, but the idea of Puntland severing ties with national government was raised many years ago by some Puntlanders who were disillusioned with the way the Mogadishu based USC was behaving in early 2000. They were worried that their leaders were spending most of their time trying to gain power in Mogadishu rather than building Puntland. I can tell you that in those years , I met many who were contemplating separation.

Well, that was some fifteen years ago. Today the landscape is different. While the weakness and instability of the national government is apparent , the Puntland of today also has it's shares of weaknesses and dysfunction. The creation of Galmudug is changing it's earlier outlook, while discontent and local uprising is brewing in Boosaaso and Bari. While things were tough in the past decade, Puntland governments , like all other Somalis, did not advance democracy and institutional based governments. Yet, I do believe that without Puntland there will be no one to challenge the Mogadishu status quo. There is no one to oppose those who act that Somalia is only Mogadishu and the surrounding regions. Without Puntland acting as the opposition, Damujaddid will follow their whims to create their own image of Somalia, which is unacceptable for those who are seeking just and balanced state.

In conclusion , there is a great deal of unknown political maneuvering that is going on. I will also admit that it is hard to gage the real issues behind C/weli's surprising moves. Maybe he is trying to calm down the emotions of the public that is unhappy about the 4.5 , or he might have sensed some sinister moves from the federal government. The one thing that can not be ignored is if Somaliland and Puntland both refuse to take part in the 2016, election, then that government will have series credibility issues to present itself as national government. It could e the government of Southern Somalia.

  17. Waa runtaa, this Sunnis are really suffering. I do believe most of the Arab world will experience worse than what we went through. It is not over yet. Algeria, Egypt, Djibouti, Saudi Arabia and even Sudan will face some kind of apprising in the future. We already have seen Yemen, Libya, Syria, Somalia, and Iraq.

This Putin guy is a blood thirsty dictator. He murdered 80,000 Chechens to get selected President by that drunkard Boris Yelsin.

He is complaining about Turkey, yet he is the one who came thousands of miles to intervene a civil that doesn't concern him. I think Erdogan should have invaded northern Syria long time ago to create a buffer zone for refugees and civilians.

Well, what you expect When you have a weak leader in the white house. He is enfolding his enemies.
