  2. Jacaylbaro, you have to admit that this sub clan democracy is a sham. The only thing holding it together is the dream of an independent state. Somaliland might be better off perpetually pursuing secession than actually achieving it.

It takes longer than 9 years to fix a country and India has worse slums than the ones in Liberia. Liberia still has pagan religions and cannibalism is part of the rituals, but even they managed to drag themselves out of civil war - unlike a country we know-.
  4. I blame Somaliland for starting the "land" fad. What is wrong with calling the state only "Juba"? Land this Land that, it's turning into a joke.
  5. Well, that didn't take long. The guy hasn't been in office for more than two months and now he is called an authoritarian.
  6. You have to hand it to Puntland, they are running circles around everybody else. Too bad they live in an arid desert land (what happened to the oil news? Is it over?).
  7. Don forget the party favorite "Bugland". The name calling here will turn anyone into a cynic regarding any progress in Somalia. Most of the people here are expatriates and you'd expect that they became enlightened from experiencing a non-clannish society ,but they got worse.
  8. As Mogadishu goes so goes the nation. When people see what peace brings on the table they will be more reluctant to go back to their old ways.
  9. No body is better at extracting resources in troubled zones than the Chinese.
  10. I don't support a multiparty democracy in Somalia. I don't think that a clannish society is capable of separating their clan affiliation from their political ones. Look at Somaliland, their experiment with a multiparty system is turning into sub clan competition.
  11. The immaturity of some of the posters here is really funny. Small minds usually resort to name calling when they don't have any arguments to make. If Jacaylbaro used his brain cells he would encourage any separatist movement in Somalia, I'm just glad that Puntland is staunchly pro a united Somalia.
  12. Instead of threatening wars and military incursions, why not win the hearts and minds of the people in SSC and Awdal?
  13. So much for choosing qualified people to the top positions in the government.
  14. Kismayo has the potential of surpassing Mogadishu if it becomes a true cosmopolitan city that is open for all. I nominate Kismayo to become the capital.
  15. I'd rather deal with Chinese companies than American companies. Unfortunately I don't think Somali officials are qualified to deal with the more sophisticated western and Chinese negotiators. I hope we study the UAE model and improve on it, I used to live in the UAE and ADNOC is a national company with investments from all the major oil companies.
  16. Calling a region of somalia Bugland is very childish and disrespectful. Where are the moderators?
  17. I guess they are looking for some bribe money. I'm from that region and we just want to be left alone, not looked at as a land morsel to be eaten by our neighbors.
  18. People need to stop imitating democratic systems in the west and start creating there own. I'd rather have a freely elected non party system where qualified technocrats can run ( 100 elected officials in a well balanced electoral map).
  19. China and the US are blessed with natural resources and they still managed to develop their work force. I don't think Somalia will ever be like Taiwan or Hong Kong. The people there are totally different, they have a culture of hard work and civic peace. One day we might reach that level, but it will help a lot to have some money to at least build an infrastructure that will facilitate that.
  20. Can't the people of Kismayo organize themselves and protect themselves from few thugs. People need to start taking care of their own affairs.
  21. The International Criminal Court and the (AU,EU,US) should start issuing warrants on all these warlords if they start to go back their old ways. If they don't reform themselves then their lives should be forfeited.
  22. Somali architecture is too busy, they need to simplify things.
  23. I thought they said that there is no famine. The people who support Al Shabab behind their computer disgust me. If you like them so much why don't you go there and fight with them.
