A federal state in Somalia was excluded and Somaliland was courted to attend, that doesn't make any sense. If that is true then Puntlanders have the right to be leery of the agenda of this government and do everything to secure their interest and disregard this president. Puntland no attending is a huge failure and I'd have said a mistake but maybe their fears are justified.
  2. Al Jazeera Almost 260,000 people, half of them young children, died of hunger during the last famine in Somalia, according to a UN report that admits the world body should have done more to prevent the tragedy. The toll is much higher than was feared at the time of the 2010-2012 food crisis in the troubled Horn of Africa country and also exceeds the 220,000 who starved to death in a 1992 famine, according to the findings. While we keep bickering our children keep dying. We are our worst enemies.
  3. Let the flame war between Somalilanders and Puntlanders begin, funny that not a single person from that region actually offered his opinion.
  4. Xaaji Xunjuf;945517 wrote: The president wants federalism but he says he has another vision on federalism He wants to control the regions and than federa states should be built He doesn't seem to be doing anything but talk, I don't see any progress in eliminating Al Shabaab and controlling the regions you speak of. The country is in a fragile state and diplomacy should be paramount, I know that you can't please everyone (especially Somalis) but you have to compromise a little.
  5. I don't wish for this guy to fail but he is making it hard for anyone to support his vision. Why become a president for a federal Somalia and then demand that no federal states be formed? It boggles the mind that he purposefully alienates the people who were instrumental in forming this government, he seems more concerned with the Jubaaland issue than eliminating Al Shabaab, very confusing.
  6. xiinfaniin;944665 wrote: The PM and the President have shown a limited capacity to deal with Jubbaland reality. They suggested appointing a governor for 6 months. Did they suggest appointing a governor of Kismayo or Jubaaland? if it's the later then this is good compromise and should be accepted. Appointing a governor of Jubaaland cements the existence of the state and in 6 months you do everything to drive al shabaab away from the region and if you succeed then the elected governor will have more legitimacy.
  7. A very speculative piece, why is Somali politics so convoluted? I don't get how you reached that conclusion about Khaatumo, please try to bring facts (even false facts if possible to show some effort) Facts ------> Conclusion not Speculation -------> Conclusion.
  8. A federal upper house is a waste of time and resources. A way to award lazy self-important people with government positions. We don't need to emulate archaic ways of governance that are inefficient and made for the sole purpose of dragging legislature forever.
  9. You've got to be kidding me, this rubble for $120,000. I'd rather buy a $10,000 home in Detroit.

Because they were supposedly announce a President , and declare the state but that didn't happen. Col barre hiiraale arrived in Kismayo by sea. and the government is moving more troops into Kismayo every day. Axmed madoobe and others feel the heat. And he knows a state in kismayo with out the blessing of Mogadishu can never happen. Thats why they called for uhurros mediation. That is if he meets with Axmed madoobe there we yet have to see, but i still think its talks between Nairobi and Mogadishu. Surprisingly I somewhat agree with XX, The government should seize the initiative and incorporate the efforts to form a federal state into an SFG sanctioned one (in Mogadishu). They can dictate the numbers of delegates proportionality and organize the process to form a temporary state gov. there until they can have an election. Hopefully they do the same for the people of Bay, Bakool and Shabeele Hoose.

The Kenyan government will be forced to close rank with SFG in order to insure it doesn't get itself in a quagmire. Wow, wishing for clashes and death to justify central government control, kudos.

Contrary to what some Somali portals are reporting, things are going rather well. The Gedo folks have finalized their delegates. The Ugaas led the process and reached agreement with other elders/stakeholders from Gedo state. The other two states have yet finalize their delegates but its a matter of time and negotiations. Mr. Hiiraale is in town but came alone. He is being closely monitored and is by no means threat to the city or the process. Thank you, I like it when the actual people there comment, I wish you all the luck and prosperity in the future.

Oodweyne;943406 wrote: ^^No, it just that creating this Jubbaland business has been an eye opener for all of those who thought the "scream" of Somalinimo from certain quarters had a solid structure underneath it.. Hence it's no use accusing others of polishing the feat of a warlord while you in turn are - shall we say - are happy to polish the shoes of some "ugali-eating kikuye-boy", and still think that others should take your guff about how Jubbaland is Somali-creating business that seriously.. Can I make a suggestion Oodweyne, English is my second language but you have an archaic style of writing and you LOVE the word "Hence" too much. Anyway, there is a lot of ill will towards Jubaaland and some people prefer it to be the Shabaab infested war zone than a stable state in Somalia, I don't get this aversion to federalism after all the work that was done to form this government.
  14. Great news, we now need to fill the containers back and export since that is the true source of wealth.
  15. An article from a law student, what a waste of time.
  16. That's what you get when you leave things unattended. The federal government instead of twaddling should try to empower the people there to determine their own destiny.
  17. Xaaji Xunjuf;942671 wrote: ^^ How would Somalia cease to exist if the 2 sides agree to live side by side as to sovereign nations. I really don't hold Somali politicians to high regard, and I still think that there will be a domino effect in Somalia since tribalism is still king there (and abroad too). Why stop at a two countries, don't you think that other entities would prefer to rule themselves instead of being ruled from Mogadishu. All of this is a big if, but the behaviour of the government is not reassuring.
  18. malistar2012;942617 wrote: are you suggesting they are not free , are they under siege ? LA community need to unite come up with one voice . and if their freedom is in stake they have every right to fight ...... the community in LA are supporting Hargesa happly waving somaliland flag , Cali Khaliif should focus on that They are under siege, what do you think having two bigger entities in your east and west trying to take control. People of LA are divided in their loyalties, you can show pictures of people waving somaliland or Somali flags but that doesn't mean anything. If Somalia tried to extend control into that region you'll see the same division happening too. In the end if other Somalis think that letting Somaliland secede without consulting the people of SSC then I don't think that Somalia will exist anymore.
  19. malistar2012;942512 wrote: Cali Khaliif and rest of his crew should stop blaming the President , Blame his cousins in LA who are happy with silanyo Hargesa Ruling them. People in LA are not crazy inviting war in their neighborhood. Sometimes the status quo is better than what you actually want, at least initially.
  20. Why do Somali governments always give exclusive rights of blocks that are almost the size of some countries. This is a huge block in a region not fully in the control of Somaliland, when do you expect to see any progress in terms of oil production there?
  21. Daqane;942453 wrote: Maybe elect another 4 presidents to bring a grand total of 8 and another party in edmonton canada will be in order. Hahaha, yep that's ridiculous but there still is a simmering sense of exclusion from both Somalia and Somaliland regarding that region. The people there can't bear to live in limbo anymore.
  22. At least we are first at something, corruption requires great skill. we should legalize and form our own super pacs /s

  24. Carafaat;942413 wrote: Daqane, I agree. As a matter of fact its a sign of civilisation , which should be applauded. If it was up to me, I would petition something more urgent and concerning. But I aint Ali Khaliif Galeyr nor a Professor. Well, the Somali-Somailand talks is the most urgent issue in that region. There are no foreign troops keeping peace there and their future is being determined without any input from them, what do you expect them to do? stay silent and wait for the other shoe to drop. The government seems to have forgotten that that region have members in the Somali parliament and if they don't want to take their input in any future negotiation then those people will have to do something before it's too late. The thing is why squander a trump card and weaken your position by ignoring the same people who were instrumental in getting you into power, the future of Somalia hinges on these talks, if the worst happens there might not be any Somalia to speak of.
  25. No, I object (insert nonsensical reason), against the constitution (two regions), we don't want no tribal states blah blah blah. HAG, SNM, Pirates, poor Khatumoos. Good for them, I have they mange to do it.
