How did they find them or know that they've been watching such films?

Besides, doesn’t Somalia have digital receivers and satellite dishes in many homes? ;)

No doubt the difference between these two is shrinking and the comparison is plenty. By observing the pattern of their speeches and the targets they choose… I, for one, conclude here that there is a trait, a character or two Sh. Aways and my main man John Ashcroft share... lashing out like that, taking the moral high ground against these filthy-lovers I think Sh. Aways as our own John my-mind-is-full-of-freakishly-large-breasts Ashcroft. He is out there to show us the right, trying, like his god-fearing American mentor, to rid evil stuff in our lives and souls…guiding us…doing his duty, protecting his flock from the filthy of this world…what a true Shepherds they are…Sheikh Aways Dahir and John Ashcroft…the banner reads: brothers in arms…

Waryaa kaa caraysiiyey!

Fighting indecency is part of your faith. You may not like Courts’ heavy-handedness style, but you can’t argue against putting stop on this culturally/religiously improper material. It’s a common sense.

NGONGE, Somalia does have digital receivers and satellite dishes but that hardly deems Courts’ anti-indecency activity ineffective or futile.

^^^^^^I thought by citing how those materials are readily accessible through satellite dishes and other electronic devices, you meant to point out that shutting public places where indecency is shown is just not going to do any good! At least that’s how I interpreted it. Based on that interpretation I said taking such steps against indecency, as the ones reported, is never too little. Courts did what they could to lessen the impact of lawlessness in that city---Mogadishu.

Ah! Got you. No that was not what I meant. I was talking about normal homes and how the authorities could find out about such things when they're free and available in every home!

Whatever that is against Islam should be treated as unlawful act in courts. This is a muslim country..You don't like it? stay out in the west where the Marriage law of a man and a woman are being changed

Ibtisan, I think your wrong in this. Islam is a whole way of life and Messenger of Allah says of you see something contrary to islam then prevent it by action, if not then by words, if not then make your heart feel the problem.

While it is forbidden to spy in privacy of ones home it is obligation that we prevent indecency in public.

Allah says in the Quran that the believers should accept islam wholeheartly and in another case Allah says to Muhammed(pbuh) to deliver the whole message and if He(pbuh) leaves one part then He has left everything. Therefore anyone who implements Shariah requires to implement everything and be within the boundary of Shariah. You cant say for example adultry is death penalty then not prevent things that lead to it such as porn, free mixing, filthy music, love movies etc.

The capital is benifiting from the laws of Allah implemented by UIC so we shouldnt go back to the days of ignorance and undermine the UIC who serve the whole public interest and porn as we will all agree is a disease that will lead to a greater disease etc etc.

Having insured the safety of Mogadishu I was happy with the “Islamist†took over of Mogadishu. I am still happy with their achievements. What I am not in agreement with is their style of no negotiations, accommodation, and conciliation of diverse interest of the Somali citizens. Sooner or later the public will get tired of their policing tactics. The disheartening fact will be to have a couple of young gunmen with power to question your every private action. Individuals may misperceive the goal of policing even though they maybe mistaking good for the bad. Nothing I am saying is meant to imply that what these sheikhs are advocating for is evil.

Individuals should have the right to their private life whether that is choosing to watch a movie at the theater or having a circle of Quraanic classes. Individuals should be able to decide matters bearing to their conduct freely without the policing of authority in power. I will draw on A bit of simple example of my early schooling in Kenya. The brain of my beloved parent hatched an idea of schooling me under an Islamic environment even though the school was not an Islamic one, but majority of the student were Muslims. For all its advantage of learning under Islamic environment, the system of the student body governing was of a Taliban style. We had to wake up by force whether we liked it or not in the morning for Fajr prayer. I appreciate up until today for that discipline. If any of the students had his pants dragging he was jeered or looked in a funny way. The majority of the students had no choice, but to comply. Until this day I wonder how many of the kids that were praying the morning prayers did it for the sake of Allah including me! There was no bargaining as to what the individual wanted. In all most all, perhaps all the things I did during those school years were due to conformity. The system was so rigidly constructed that no one could question the Islamic authority. Although these were immense training for the better of the students and the community, I wonder if any of the majority of my circle knew what they were doing was not for the sake of Allah, but for the fear of mere human. I am seeing some similarities between my old school and the new Somali Islamic authority. Yes what they are doing is compatible with the traditional norm of the Islamic society. Yes the Islamic courts may view certain things too crucial for compromise, but where is the privacy? The future of Somalia will be uncertain with this kind of policing.

Although I do understand where you coming from, the point you are missing is, what is deemed to be private versus public? These groups (porn watchers) did it in public by watching it @ a cinema compared to watching at their own houses!

Had they gathered in their own apartments and watched it discreetly (loool..oxy moron..i know) then the Courts would not have the authority to arrest them in accordance to the Islamic Teachings even though what they (The Porn lovers..lool) were doing is against the Islamic teachings!!!

I do believe the key point is understanding the difference between what is private versus what is public? I doubt the Courts know the difference though!

Cheers
