21 deportees die fleeing Somaliland ::

Garowe (AllPuntland) - Tragedy struck a convoy of Somali deportees expelled from the self-styled republic of Somaliland (Northwest regions of Somalia) in an accident after one of their heavily loaded trucks veered off the road near the town of Rabaable some 10 kilometers to the south of Garowe, Puntland’s state capital. Our local reporter confirms that 21 people most of whom were women and children of Southwest regions of Somalia were pronounced dead at the scene of the accident with 14 sustaining critical injuries.

Victims admitted to Garowe main Hospital, where the injured are being cared for, were internally displaced persons (IDP) of non-**** origin mainly from Bay & Bakool regions reportedly fleeing detention and deportation if arrested by the local police in Hargeysa and Buroa.

In October this year, Riyaale government in Hargeisa ordered all internally displaced persons to leave, or face deportation. This came as a result of a number of killings of foreign nationals, mainly aid workers and volunteers in Borama, Sheikh and in Buroa in Somaliland initially alleged, albeit disproved by Minister of Interior, to have been carried out by persons of southern regions of Somalia. Information naming suspects released by the office of the ministry of interior later alleged the killings to have been instigated and carried out by supporters of one of the political parties in Somaliland, namely Kulmiye. Nonetheless, it appears IDPs got the brunt of it all as they are unjustly targeted. Many in the region feel that internally displaced persons are simply being made of scapegoat for crimes they could not possibly commit.

One of the worse kind seen in the area, the accident happened at a time when an influx of internally displaced persons fleeing from Somaliland are expected to resettle in Puntland State which currently is a home to the largest number of IDPs in Somalia, and in other regions of southern Somalia. It is difficult to gauge a picture of what they will face as they proceed to establish themselves in yet another unfamiliar, if friendly environment to which many will call home as time goes by.

There had been a large number of IDPs who settled in Somaliland and Puntland State as a result of years of internal civil unrest in the southern regions of Somalia.

Severe droughts and slow seasonal economic downturn resultant of the ban of all livestock, Somalia’s main export to the Middle East, have had acute adverse effect on the lives of the people in the region which further exacerbate the situation of an already capricious environment.

It is sad and tragic. This clearly shows the evil intentions of somaliland's government. Somaliland always stood aside from their fellow somali's and it is now clear that their hatred toward other somali's is emerging slowly by deporting their fellow somali's. Since Somaliland's declaration to choose to be a renegade state there was always growing indications that their ambition was to undermine the integrity and the unity of somalia. However, as a result of their evil intentions toward their fellow somali's there is no doubt this will have strong impact on their fragile economy and their regional access. Every action come with consequence, this time the price will be severe consequence and the world will witness.

Salaan...

Guraad, I would've loved to see your thoughts if Puntland had kicked some Soomaalis from there. ;)

Anyway, as pathetic and poignant as it may seem, we Soomaalis are accustomed to situations like this. This is not the first time something like this happened. When Soomaalis are mad with one another, situations like this happen.

It happened in Xamar in 1991/92 when USC tried to cleanse Xamar from some circles of Soomaalis from their rightful homes, some innocent folks. It happened in Baydhabo in 1991 kicking Cumar Jees and his "people" {read tribe}, some innocent, from Baay and Bakool regions. It is still happening in those divided cities of Beled Weyne and Gaalkacyo, where purely one clan lives one side, while their "nemesis" live the other side, not allowing themselves to mix freely. That is how dismal and pathetic situation we are in. Sad, yes.

However, I might say this is the first time without any justification save the "you-are-not-from-this-region" rhetoric some Soomaalis had been kicked from other Soomaali lands.

People, Eid Mubarak first of all to all the Muslim Ummah.

Second the actions of the Somaliland government is disgraceful, but we need not bring more dividions by insulting our Somali brothers from that region who as we all know did not partake in this action.

Somalia is a divided country where the people are pawns, but lets not keep on attacking each other for the callous actions of a few.

Keep reporting we need news, criticise but please try to be objective.

Again Eid Mubarak

Strange, when djibouti does this defeaning silence resounds across these forums and their expulsions are carried out without judgement from those locked away in darkened rooms tapping ominously on their pcs. When Somaliland does the exact same thing, there is self emolation everwhere, much beating of breasts and the thuds of jaws dropping to the floor. How is it that one gives quite support and a blind eye to one leader and government yet berates another for doing precisely the same thing? What is the essential difference which spawns derision? Is gheele your god? Are his mnisters your prophets? every one here who is tut tuting repeat this mantra "I am a hypocrite, i accept this fact and i must change". Leave the keyboard alone, god only knows how you know which key is which as you have rubbed away the lettering from constant and rapid use, venture outside and get a life.

By the way Eid Mubarak all!

Lets all be serious for a sec, are you expecting Somaliland to welcome everyone just because they are Somali or should there be a system of keeping control on the numbers of people who should be allowed to stay? If there so what sort of system should that be? What you all have to remember most Somalilanders still remember when they last welcomed suffering Somali refugees from Ethiopia, they ultimately ended being asked to show their identity cards by the same refugees living in their own hometowns who chose to work for Siad's regime.
