PRESS RELEASE

Secessionist Somaliland’s Naked Aggression against the Peaceful Region of Sool

For Immediate Release

Somalia’s Northern regions, which until recently enjoyed a relative peace, are on the verge of entering an era of internecine clan warfare similar to, and may be worse than, what has plagued the southern part of the country for over a decade.

The Hargeisa-based clan-driven secessionists’ northern enclave of Somaliland, in the early hours of October 15, 2007, launched unprovoked armed aggression on the peaceful town of Las Anod, the capital of Sool region in the northern pro-unity State of Puntland. This naked aggression caused the death of at least 12 people and displacement of large residents of the city, as well as injuring unknown number of civilians. The local people are in arms defending their families and their properties against these invaders from their distant stronghold, Hargeisa, which is more than 900 Kilometers from Las Anod.

The secessionists embarked on this adventure in the face of last week’s decisions by the Traditional Leaders of Sool, Sanaag & Cayn regions and their Diaspora communities calling on “Somaliland” to refrain from invading

Their clan territory and for their citizens to defend their native soil against the military incursions by the secessionist’s militia.

The invasion of Las Anod comes only few months after a failed attempt to occupy, Dhahar, a town in Sanaag

Region, which like the Sool and Cayn northern regions does not subscribe to the secessionists’ agenda. In that attempt, several people were killed, the “Somaliland” Minister of Defense was sacked for not delivering the

Goods, and some NGO’s who were brought from Hargeisa had to flee for their lives.

These latest series of unprovoked violence against fellow Somalis stems from a desperate attempt by the secessionists to gain recognition as a separate state; not by peaceful means but by naked military aggressions.

This latest aggression by the secessionists on other clans’ territories risks the loss of the peaceful co-existence that had so far prevailed among the northern Somali clans. With this pattern of aggression against their neighbors, the secessionists’ deafening mantra that “Somaliland” is an oasis of peace is laid to rest and exposed for what it is: a baseless self-serving propaganda aimed to hoodwink the international community that they are worthy of international recognition. “Somaliland” is a one-clan project solely aimed at

Achieving chauvinistic goals and establishing hegemony over other clans; to the detriment of the international community’s noble efforts to reconstruct a functioning central government, which will restore law and order

Throughout the country.

ONE PEOPLE ONE COUNTRY

Consistent with its core mandate of promoting peace and unity among the Somali people and the establishment of a unified representative democratic governance propelled by justice and equality for all, the Northern

Somalis for Peace & Unity (NSPU): 

Condemns in the strongest terms the continuation of the naked aggressions and unprovoked armed

Incursion instigated by the Hargeisa-based secessionist administration against the hitherto peaceful Puntland’s regions of Sool, Sanaag and Cayn;

Appeals to the international community, specially the UN, AU, EU, IGAD and International NGOs to condemn this aggression of the secessionists entity, “Somaliland”, against the peaceful population of Sool, Sanaag and Cayn regions and use their influence and leverage over the secessionist administration

to end their hostilities, withdraw their militias, and refrain from further violence and bloodshed. and order throughout the country. NSPU believes the balkanization of Somalia is a recipe for future conflicts and a bleak future for the Somali people, who are bonded by ethnicity, language, religion, and shared centuries-old culture and traditions.

Press Release

Secessionist ‘Somaliland’ Embarks on a Dangerous Course of Desperation

For Immediate Release

The unfortunate, but internecine, conflict raging in Mogadishu between the Transitional Federal Government (TFG) and its opponents as well as developments elsewhere in the country have apparently thrown the secessionist camp in Somalia’s Northwestern Region (‘Somaliland') into disarray and confusion.

Early this year the secessionist camp made a series of demonstrations in the UK, followed by a petition to the British Prime Minister to recognize the enclave – a petition which was naturally denied.

The secessionists have now – perhaps as a result of that denial – abandoned their claim to peace and quiet in contrast to “southern Somalia,” and have opted for a belligerent policy designed to bring two pro-Unity northern regions, Sool, Sanaag and Cayn (which rejected their secessionists’ project) within their camp through military conquest so as to demonstrate to the outside world that they control the entire area of what used to be called British Somaliland. Fully aware that Hargeisa does not have the ability to do that, perhaps this is a Machiavellian effort to instigate and drag the fully engaged TFG into a new conflict in the northern regions.

Accordingly, mobilizing from far away Hargeisa, the Secessionists tried during the past two weeks to make armed incursions into some of the towns and villages such as Huddun, Awr Boogeys and Dhahar only to be rebuffed by the local populations. The bulk of their militia is made up of former SNM militia re-cast as a ‘Somaliland’ national army.

At the same time the secessionists spared no effort in adding fuel to the fire raging in our national capital by trying to forge an alliance, albeit false, with the ****** – a clan which is unswervingly committed to the unity and territorial integrity of our country.

We, the Northern Somalis for Peace & unity (NSPU) condemn in the strongest terms these nefarious acts on the part of the secessionists and we pray that our people throughout Somalia will surmount their difficulties and unite for peace and prosperity with a view of securing a more stable future for posterity.

Therefore, consistent with NSPU advocacy and commitment to peace and unity among all the citizens of the Somali Republic, we strongly urge and appeal to:

The international community, specially the International NGOs, the UN, the EU, IGAD, and aid Donor countries/organizations to condemn the naked aggression of the secessionists entity, Somaliland, against the peaceful population of the Sool and Sanag Region and use their influence and leverage over the Hargeisa secessionists to refrain from undermining the current international efforts to stabilize the country;

Call upon the ***** elders and intellectuals, specially those from Western Sanaag and Togdheer Regions, to condemn these heinous acts against your neighbors, which if continued, will trigger tragic conflicts which will severely impact the relative peace and stability in the area;

Call on the remnants of the Somali National Movement (SNM), an ***** militia which in the confusion that followed the collapse of the central government in 1991, orchestrated the creation of ‘Somaliland’, to shed their banner of hate and refrain from actions and words that will once again lead to a conflict among the brotherly northern clans; and

Call upon the Diaspora 'Somalilanders' and 'Somaliland' Part-time politicians, with their families safely in foreign countries (read: Faisal Waraabe, Ahmed Siilaanyo et al), to momentarily reflect on their doings and refrain from incitement and hate mongering the consequences of which may not directly affect them but will surely impact on the poor folks back home, irrespective of clan affiliation.

May peace prevail among the long-suffering people of Somalia and may a new horizon of unity prosperity and prosperity dawns on our country. And may wisdom dawn on the bearers of hate.

Sincerely,

Gamal Hassan,

Brother Garyaqaan,

Thank you for the post from Northern Somalis for Peace and Unity. I know it is hard for SNM gang sympathisers to chew the reality because their senses are clouded by runaway recognition madness. Undoubtedly, this piece is sensible and ratiocinative . As Somalis say the grass of the drought season is indispensable, reinstitutionalion of the Somali Republic is the unavoidable option for all Somalis to choose. If Somalis fail form a strong central government and they break apart as small tribal mini states as the dreamers of the SNM gang wish, it will set a precedents for all other African tribes to form their own City-States. In this day and age of globalization and conglomeration, that will be unacceptable to the world community.

If this madness continues, the ultimate loser is the Somali child whose resources are being wasted for wars that will have no winners….

Do not be discouraged by nay-sayers. Bring out more like this for everybody to know that Somalis are united against the dismemberment of the Somali Republic. smile.gif

Bisadna waa ka ciyaar jiirnna waa ka dhab. I know you want to joke youself all the way to non coming recognition. I am just giving a dozen of reality for you to calm down and come down from the tall tree you having been sitting on the top of it. The clouds that surround you always rain down and leave you alone in the cold. Stop laying to the other African tribes in telling that you can make to the promised land by separating yourself from other parts of your body. I am your brother. Use my prescription because enough is enough and lets use resoures to rebuild the institutions of our beloved Somali Republic. Otherwise you will always get from me ...you know what.... ;)

You see. This is exactly what I was talking about. When the secessionists are cornered, they do not shy away to evocate the Somali card. What does the Somali National Movement has to do with Waraabe’s and Axmed Yuusuf Yasiin's SNM gang? redface.gif

Nayruus, face facts north west somalia is no more, there is now Somaliland. This is a fact you cant deny. Lets forget the SOOL region or half of Sang, do you really think the people of the rest of Somaliland will join back with a failed union. Face facts in the end part of somalia will be no more and a new state will emerge if its all of present day somaliland or the area you call the trinangle of somaliland. Expect that fact old boy.

^^ You are the one who is denying the truth bro. The reality is Laascaanod is under the control of Somaliland by force. Somaliland started a war in a peaceful city, a city that was peaceful for the past 17 years, and that is a fact that you need to realize.

Walahi Do you honestly think Somaliland will now be recognized internationally, now that they started a war and a tribal war at that???

Stuff and nonsense...

^^Well put …

Apparently many of you cant fact the reality as it is, and rather manipulate it to serve ur own interest. How pathetic !!!
