  1. Naxar I say that is Philadelphia Elfreths alley US oldest street ? MMA how can one recognize a city from a picture shot over freeway overpasses?
  2. the author's basic contention that secularism is preferable to theocracy is unassailable. ........I take it this means you are in agreement with him What is it exactly about a theocracy, or secularism for that matter, that disallows the fusion of these two dogmas?
  3. Ahem Ahem .......whats my prize? I got it right even down to exactly where the picture was shot from
  4. Well JB and MMA are partly right in that it is in France but that picture was taken at Place de la Comedie in Montpellier (If I am not mistaken). I think you took the pic as you were coming from the Museum area or the tourist office. What do I get if I am right anyway Blah I just hit my 1000 post
  5. ^who is in love with a sheikh's recitation now
  6. So the past two weeks has seen me finish four books and I am now embarking on my fifth one. which is making me chuckle in the most unlikely locations i.e. waiting rooms, planes and at work. I highly recommend .I absolutely could not put this book down and read it from 9 pm till 5 am in the morning. I am also hoping to reread some old classics and last weekend picked up after polishing off I am wondering if anyone has read or or or and what they thought of them since they are in my wish list

  8. Mornin folks! Planning a lazy afternoon of listening to a jazz concert in piazza downtown but I am troubled by reports of severe weather when at the moment its clear blue sky outside Cara erm I feel your pain but I resolved to treat myself to some peace and quiet this afternoon and hope to come home and find the house magically cleaned by the elves
  9. lol @ Ngonge My question is where is the line? Clothing evolved from being a status symbol to being a necessity to now being a way to pigeonhole a person i.e goth, wadaad, skank, bimbo, nerd etc. When it comes to Islamic clothing/hijab it is something a bit more if we are to follow the cannons of the religion. Yes not every girl that wears a hijab is a puritan but she dons it nonetheless because she is made to feel that she has to. I am sorry but I don't remember being told what the significance of wearing a hijab was. Matter of fact I never wore one till I was a teenager and by then the hijab used to couple as a neck scarf. Till the day my father gruffly told me I have to pick which way I am going to play the game. Wear it or don't wear it make the choice with all the knowledge you can find. Do we as a society educate our children on what it means to don the hijab or do we just shove it down their throat expecting compliance even though all roads point to hell  As for the video disturbing me lets just say all parties involved in the video made my eyebrow arch a bit higher. That most of the comments here say that it is normal/common for this behavior is also a reason for all of us to take a step back. When we become so desensitized at such behavior what are we really saying about our society?
  10. I was having a discussion a few months back about how symbolic the hijab was. Por example if you walked into a bar wearing a hijab should one assume you are a 'good' girl or a 'bad' girl? How about a club? how about sitting with someone drinking? So where does the line blur from individualism to you representing the entire ummah? I was reminded of this discussion last night when I saw a couple people post this video on FB. The video was posted on youtube three days ago and from the setting it looks like a house party or something. Hijab chick dancing to bend ova I am not sure what more disturbing the girls wearing the abaya, the boys dancing behind them or the way the rest of the party seems to be so non chalant about it.

^I hate to say this but the funny thing about any religion is that you can always find texts that can both support and refute an issue. This issue is amazingly being brought to head by western sites rather than muslims themselves........erm......what else can I say?

    Weird News

....According to the Gulf News, Sheikh Al Obeikan, a consultant to the Ministry of Justice and an adviser to the royal court stated, “the man should take the milk, but not directly from the breast of the woman. He should drink it and then becomes a relative of the family, a fact that allows him to come in contact with the woman without breaking Islam’s rules about mixing.” This fatwa applies to men who regularly come into contact with the same woman, or men who live in the same house with a woman. The woman has to pump her breast milk into a glass and give it to the unrelated male. Doesn’t that sound appetizing? But, not all agree with giving the milk in such a way. Oh, no. Another high-profile sheik, Abi Ishaq Al Huwaini, believes that the men should suckle the breast milk directly from the woman’s breast . Now we are talking! How is it that you can get close enough to suckle, though, without getting thrown in jail? If the genders aren’t allowed to mix, how could you do this without the religious police on your ***? This is serious stuff! Under this strict Islamic law, women aren’t allowed to vote, drive, or leave the country without the consent of a male “guardian”. Complete story A friend forwarded this to me and I thought it was nuts so I googled it and amazingly I got hits. Funny what goes around the net these day
  21. ^Like he ignored that hand ball He asked Fabiano about it and Fabiano pleaded innocence lol and ref taps his heart and smiles. The officiating was horrible!
  22. I have to say I found this game to be disturbing. Most unsportsmanlike conduct from both teams (the fake hit in the face from the IC player) but mostly from Brazil especially Maciano, Fabiano, Kaka ... They should get grammys for their role playing. They were winning what was with all the bloody stops in the game with every challenge leading to someone rolling on the floor
  23. Are Brazil players serious? Whats with all the diving and melodrama. Kaka should be sent out!
  24. Seriously this game is bloody exciting. No one wants to go home. Chances abound I think people will lose their voices today!
