Video of Dechasa being abused outside the Ethiopian embassy sparked outrage in Lebanon
-
Suicide comes days after footage emerged of Ethiopian woman being violently dragged on Beirut street by male employer. An Ethiopian domestic worker in Lebanon who was filmed being physically abused in public has committed suicide, local media have reported. The video, first aired by Lebanese Broadcasting Corporation International (LBCI) last week, caused outrage by showing a man abusing Alem Dechasa as she cried on a street outside the Ethiopian embassy in Beirut. The man was shown grabbing Dechasa and telling her, "get into the car" while she screamed out, "no, no, no". Another man then assisted in dragging Dechasa into the back of a car as she struggled to resist. Asaminew Debelie Bonssa, Ethiopian general consul in Lebanon, told The Daily Star newspaper in Beirut that Dechasa committed suicide by hanging herself early on Wednesday morning at a psychiatric hospital where she had been taken after the incident. Bonssa told The Daily Star that he had seen Dechasa on Saturday in the hospital and that she was making plans to return to Ethiopia. 'Larger issue' After the video was aired, LBCI used the car’s license plate number to identify the man. “[The man] tried to justify his act by denying that he beat her. He stressed that the worker tried to commit suicide more than once, and that he tried dealing with her humanely, but she refused to go to the airport for deportation,” LBCI reported on its website. Activists in Lebanon, outraged by the video, posted the man's contact information on internet social media sites and called for action against him. Reports of domestic worker abuse are widespread, with many allegedly locked in employers’ homes. Rola Abimourched, programme co-ordinator at KAFA (Enough) Violence and Exploitation, told Al Jazeera that Dechasa's case may increase scrutiny into the problem. "This case may indicate the larger issue of migrant domestic workers' vulnerability to abuse in Lebanon, which puts the whole system in question. Namely, the sponsorship system which ties the domestic worker to one employer and does not guarantee her basic human rights," Abimourched said. "We hope that an investigation into her death will determine what happened." Source: Al Jazeera and agencies

A job of lawyer is to win a case and not to ascertain truth. In any case, I am not here to argue. So, let's to FACTS. Are you saying Ethiopia didn't invade peaceful Xamar among other Somali cities in 2006 and slaughtered innocent or you are categorically denying that?

From: Hadeel [XXXXXXXXXXXX] Subject: Fwd: Who is behind the explosion - it is not Al-Qaida as the Syrians claim Date: 24 December 2011 08:26:42 GMT To: sam@alshahba.com PLease read the email that represents al ot of people's opinions. Saying that Al-Qaeda is behind the explosion after ONLY 5 minutes of the explosion and without any investigations is not for our interest. Begin forwarded message: From: hosein mortada Subject: Who is behind the explosion - it is not Al-Qaida as the Syrians claim Date: December 24, 2011 9:52:27 AM GMT+02:00 To: "hadeel [XXXXXXXXXXXX]" Reply-To: hosein mortada It is not in our interest to say that Al-Qaida is behind the operation because such statements clear the US administration and the Syrian opposition of any responsibility; America is fighting Al-Qaida and it will condemn the operation. Based on what we saw from events on the ground yesterday, we have to acknowledge how well orchestrated it was, and we have to say that the US administration, the opposition and the states which infiltrated weapons are behind the operation so that we can start the attack. But blaming Al-Qaida alone won't be in anyone's interest but Al-Qaida's, because the organisation has been in existence for decades and this is nothing new. I have even received contacts from Iran and Hezbollah - me being the head of many Iranian and Lebanese media channels - and they directed me not to mention that Al-Qaida was behind the operation cause it would be a blatant media and tactical mistake and futile. The matter should be amended with extreme speed and I won't broadcast on my channels any news related to Al-Qaida. This point is in your interest and to help you; please make use of it, Syria. From: Al Mayassa Al Thani Subject: hey! Date: 30 January 2012 18:43:39 GMT To: ak@alshahba.com how are you? its been some time. just been following the latest developments in syria -- i think its great that the opposition are willing to speak to the syrian gov in russia. i know their condition seems outrageous, but in all honesty -- looking at the tide of history and the escalation of recent events -- we've seen two results - leaders stepping down and getting political asylum or leaders being brutually attacked. i honestly think that this is a good opportunity to leave and re-start a normal life - it cant be easy on the children, it can't be easy on you! i know at times i am too blunt - but its because i care and consider you and the family as part of our own. every day i think about the thoughts running through your head and the safety of your chidlren -- i only pray that you will convince the president to take this as an opportunity to exit without having to face charges. the region needs to stabilize, but not more than you need peace of mind. i am sure you have many places to turn to, including doha.

Bashar al-Assad took advice from Iran on how to handle the uprising against his rule, according to a cache of what appear to be several thousand emails received and sent by the Syrian leader and his wife. The Syrian leader was also briefed in detail about the presence of western journalists in the Baba Amr district of Homs and urged to "tighten the security grip" on the opposition-held city in November. The revelations are contained in more than 3,000 documents that activists say are emails downloaded from private accounts belonging to Assad and his wife, Asma. The messages, which have been obtained by the Guardian, are said to have been intercepted by members of the opposition Supreme Council of the Revolution group between June and early February. The documents, which emerge on the first anniversary of the rebellion that has seen more than 8,000 Syrians killed, paint a portrait of a first family remarkably insulated from the mounting crisis and continuing to enjoy a luxurious lifestyle. They appear to show the president's wife spending thousands of dollars over the internet for designer goods while he swaps entertaining internet links on his iPad and downloads music from iTunes. As the world watched in horror at the brutal suppression of protests across the country and many Syrians faced food shortages and other hardships, Mrs Assad spent more than £10,000 on candlesticks, tables and chandeliers from Paris and instructed an aide to order a fondue set from Amazon. The Guardian has made extensive efforts to authenticate the emails by checking their contents against established facts and contacting 10 individuals whose correspondence appears in the cache. These checks suggest the messages are genuine, but it has not been possible to verify every one. Click

Premier League chairman Sir Dave Richards has accused Fifa and Uefa of stealing football from the English. At a conference in Qatar, Richards, who later injured himself tripping over a fountain, suggested that the world had England to thank for football. "England gave the world football. It gave the best legacy anyone could give. We gave them the game," said Richards. "Then, 50 years later, some guy came along and said, you're liars, and they actually stole it. It was called Fifa." Ricchards, who is also a Football Association board member, was speaking in front of Fifa vice president Prince Ali Bin Hussein of Jordan and International Cricket Council chief executive Haroon Lorgat. He added: "Fifty years later, another gang came along called Uefa and stole a bit more." When suggestions were made that the game could have originated in China, Richards replied in a raised voice: "It started in Sheffield 150 years ago. We started the game and wrote the rules and took it to the world. The Chinese may say they own it but the British own it and we gave it to the rest of the world." The Premier League was quick to distance itself from the comments. "Sir Dave is attending the conference in a private and personal capacity and his comments in no way reflect the views of the Premier League," they said in a statement. Richards also said Fifa allowed the FA to waste money on their 2018 World Cup bid when, he said, they had little chance of winning it. He said: "Why couldn't Fifa have said, we want to take it to the Gulf, to the eastern bloc? We spent £19million on that bid. "When we went for it everybody believed we had a chance. But as we went through it a pattern emerged that suggested maybe we didn't." BBC

Qarax xooggan ayaa goor dhow ka dhacay xarunta madaxtooyada Villa-Somalia ee magaalada Muqdisho. Qaraxa ayaa ahaa mid uu fuliyey qof isa soo midaamiyey, wuxuuna ka dhacay iridda hore ee madaxtooyada. Khasaaraha rasmiga ah ee dagaalkaas ka dhashay lama oga ilaa iyo hada, waxaase Horseed Media loo xaqiijiyey dhaawaca 6-qof iyo dhimashada 2 kale. Wadooyinka madaxtooyada gala ayaa ah kuwo gebi ahaantood xiran, waxaana la maqlayaa rasaas ay cirka u ridayaan ciidamada madaxtooyadu. Ilaa iyo hadda ma jirto cid ka hadashay khasaaraha qaraxan ka dhashay, waxaase la filayaa in saacadaha soo socda ay soo baxdo faah faahin dheeri ah oo qaraxaas ku saabsan. Qofka is qarxiyey oo lagu soo waramayo inuu dooneyey in madaxtooyada uu gudaha u galo ayaa isku qarxiyey maqaaxi ay ciidamadu ku shaaheeyaan oo ku taal banaanka hore ee Villa Somalia. Waana markii ugu horeysey oo qarax noocan oo kale ahi uu ka dhaco afaafka hore ee xarunta madaxtooyada DKM ah ee Soomaaliya. Horseed Media
